Why are there batteries in your fridge?

Aren't batteries suppose to last longer if you freeze them, or is that some myth? No clue, they probably have been in there a while, just like those churros. And I just noticed that the coffee mate is blocking the view of the egg nog, bummer.

Some peanut butters separate.
Keeping them cold slows this process so you don't wind up with a one inch layer of oil on top.

samiksha
12-03-2007, 04:35 PM
ewww. that must take awhile, i've never seen it happen.

Courtney
12-03-2007, 04:40 PM
It's pretty common with natural nut butters. If you get Jiffy or something, I think they add preservatives to prevent separation.

Courtney
12-03-2007, 04:43 PM
Also I mostly eat almond butter. I don't keep it in the fridge because it's too annoying to spread when it is hard, and I am impatient. I go through it quickly enough that rancidity is not a factor.

How should Skippy® peanut butter be stored?
Unopened and opened jars of peanut butter may be stored at room temperature. Keep the jar tightly closed and store in a cool place. Storage temperature affects product quality. Excessive heat will accelerate the loss of fresh flavor and cause oil separation. Cold temperatures, even above freezing, can change peanut butter's consistency, texture, and thickness. Peanut butter may be refrigerated to retain the product's optimum flavor, but it will not be as easy to spread. Freezing is not recommended.

Alkaline batteries stored at "room temperature" self discharge at a rate of less than two percent per year. So normally refrigerating or freezing them will only help maintain their charge by a tiny amount. Hardly worth the effort of chilling them. However, if alkaline batteries are stored at higher temperatures they will start to lose capacity much quicker. At 85 degrees F they only lose about 5% per year, but at 100 degrees they lose 25% per year. So if you live in a very hot climate or are storing your batteries in a very hot location, it may be worthwhile for you to store your alkaline batteries in a refrigerator instead.

NiMH and NiCd batteries self discharge at a MUCH faster rate than alkaline batteries. In fact, at "room temperature" (about 70 degrees F) NiMH and NiCD batteries will self discharge a few percent PER DAY. Storing them at lower temperatures will slow their self discharge rate dramatically. NiMH batteries stored at freezing will retain over 90% of their charge for full month. So it might make sense to store them in a freezer. If you do, it's best to bring them back to room temperature before using them. Even if you don't freeze your NiMH batteries after charging them, you should store them in a cool place to minimize their self discharge.

Natural peanut butter needs to be chilled or else all the oil comes to the top in about an hour, and then you have to stir it all back in again or else it's too hard to spread. Natural peanut butter is pretty easy to spread chilled.

In my opinion, stirring separated peanut butter is easier than spreading chilled peanut butter.

Most of the one's I've found are the same though:

1 lb. butter (unsalted)
1 oz. herb of your choice
3 c. Water

Melt is saucepan, crumble the herbs of your choice in, simmer for 20-30 minutes careful not to burn. Strain through cheese cloth. Fridge.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

I honestly don't know why people would keep their peanut butter in the fridge. There is no point in keeping it cold. And besides, who wants to put cold peanuts butter on their toast? Not I.

Peanut butter on toast? What? Noooooooooooo. Jams only.......maybe a few jellies.

I just googled for one. This will be my first batch.

I have found that its easier to just use 1 cup of water per stick of butter and just boil the whole thing with the herb. When you put it in the fridge the cannabutter will seperate from the water and when its ready you just scoop the solid butter out and toss the water (or drink it).

I love PB on toast, especially if it's an english muffin. Sometimes with Banana & Honey. Sometimes with raspberry jam or orange marmalade. I recently discovered the orange marmalade and enjoy it quite a bit. It all depends on my mood, but it's all great to me.

C DUB YA

Yep - (Tazo and Silk) That is exactly why I have both. Very addictive indeed.

Actually I thought my fridge was kinda messy, but I did just put the OJ and milk in there this morning.

There is usually a lot more beer in there - but I had some friends over and they always down my ever rotating beer supply (I always buy singles when I go shopping at Whole Foods, so when the time comes I have like 12 kinds with a few bottles of each)
