Radiohead are playing Malahide, Marlay Park is way closer, but the route isn't as scenic. :D

Another atease report

The new one sounded sweet.. from what I could tell it had a slowish tempo and there was a series of 6/8 time piano arpeggios with a very melodic vocal line on top.. I'm sure somebody will have recorded the whole thing, don't worry..

I got really excited because I thought that the Supercollider was a reference to the audio synthesis programming language, and they mentioned maybe using it. That would be fucking rad, that's what I use for all of the electronics in my music and it's probably the most powerful real-time audio environment around right now.

Incredible set list.

Guinness doesn't travel well, and as far as I know, the ingredients will be locally sourced when it's brewed abroad. So the only place Guinnes will taste like "Guinness" is here. Elsewhere, it's made the same way, but it's got different qualities. I think it's brewed to taste stronger here as well, it always tastes piss weak to me abroad.

That it was *just* good, that everytime they worked up some real momentum, they let it drop again. Also, that the crowd wasn't as into it as they should have been, but Friday was tough for a lot of people to get to, so it wasn't sold out. I think today should be a bit livelier.

Alrighty then.

With time honoured Irish efficiency, gates didn't open till 6.20 leaving many, many people hanging around outside since before 5. I was about 15rows from the front and kicked myself over and over as everyone got cameras in. The show was excellent but not quite what I had been lead to believe from reading reviews on here. They didn't appear tired at all and were quite stunned at the size of the crowd when they came out. IMO, it was the choice of material that kept a damper on things. I don't think the early timing of the show had much to do with it either.

For a show that apparently didn't sell out, it must have come very, very close. I was surprised at so many people were there as they are playing tonight and 'alternative' bands don't usually play bigger venues at all never mind twice in Ireland.

Super Collidor was played by Thom solo on the piano and was, and I balk at using the word w.r.t. RH, a ballad(ish) type track. Maybe it will be fleshed out to a full band track by the time it sees vinyl.

Setlist from 58hours.

On the new track ? I actually really like it.

On the show itself, I wasn't floored like I was by Portishead recently but I certainly don't feel let down or shortchanged at all. 25 songs, a little over 2hrs, a brand new song, a friggin' rainbow in the sky to start the show. ......... :)
I'll add that there was a group of obnoxious 'fans' in front of me that pissed off a lot of folks in the immediate area with their messing around. It was a distraction.

The band interacted with the crowd quite a bit. Ed threw his drumsticks into the crowd after 'There There' and he threw a pick or two into the crowd at the end. He also acknowledged one or two people individually. Thom was very talkative and appreciative. On one or two of the quieter tracks, people were sshhing the noisier people to be quiet. Thom heard this and said 'yeah, pay attention' with a smile on his face.

Merch was the same as the US shows. The same recycled tee shirts (28Euro), Sigg bottles (20Euro) etc. I got two tour posters at 10Euro a piece. They also had the other art type poster also.

Gates weren't supposed to open until six though, right? So only twenty minutes late. :D

My ticket said gates at 4, MCD's website said 5, the posters at the train stations said 6. The more things change in Ireland, the more they stay the same as they ever were.

Any differences in taste, with regard to Guinness in the US is down to handling of the beer and the condition/maintenance of the lines. US Guinness is brewed in St.James Gate. There is NO difference. Yes, Guinness in other countries such as the UK will be a bit different.

I highly recommend the tour of the Guinness storehouse in Dublin. They took one of the old buildings and converted it to hold tours. The free pint at the Gravity Bar on the very top is wonderful.

Found a notebook from 2001 while cleaning my apartment. Wrote down my thoughts from the first time seeing Radiohead live at the Shoreline Amphitheater. I'll spare you my thoughts and just include the set list (since idrive & some others were doing so earlier):

National Anthem
Morning Bell
Lucky
Airbag
In Limbo
Pakt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box
You and Whose Army?
No Surprises
Dollars and Cents
Knives Out
???
Karma Police
Pyramid Song
Paranoid Android
Idioteque
Everything In Its Right Place

I Might Be Wrong
Fake Plastic Trees
The Thief (cover?)
How to Disappear Completely

Talk Show Host
The Bends

Motion Picture Soundtrack

23 songs, 3 encores, and some stuff that apparently doesn't get played very much anymore. Good times. As such, the songs I'm most anxiously hoping for are "Nice Dream," "Black Star," "Bulletproof...I Wish I Was," and "Climbing Up the Walls." (Previously, I was yearning primarily for "How to Disappear Completely" and "Fake Plastic Trees," but as I've already seen them, I won't be too upset if they don't get played again.) Was anyone else at that show? I had lawn seats -- spent about $300 altogether on that trip (motel, airfare, etc.) and walked about 5 miles to the venue from the motel I was staying at, but I was in the dawn of my Radiohead fanaticism and assured people I talked to about it that it was all very much worthwhile. Still feel that way.

Got off to a bad start for me. Despite getting there later than I'd intended, I was all set up with a decent spot, when a guy comes back to his friends from the toilet, and leaves me with this view.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/jill_valentine/CIMG0196.jpg

A little bit of manouvering gave me a better view, and what I thought was a better spot. This left me behind this girl.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/jill_valentine/CIMG0201.jpg

Little did I realise, she would turn out to be the most annoying person I've ever had the misfortune to share a gig with. She shall henceforth be referred to as Bitch Who Thinks She's At Daft Punk. I'm posting about her in the hope that the potential for you guys to later testify against me will prevent me from murdering her should I find her again. Anything she could have done to make this a less fun experience, for as many people as possible, she did. For the sake of brevity I'll cite the top five.

5. Generally acting like she Thinks She's At Daft Punk.
You are not at Daft Punk.

4. Obstructing as much view as possible.
I really don't know how she managed this, but it was incredible. She was on it. Like a ninja, her reflexes were razor sharp. She somehow managed to obstruct my view, my friend’s view, and the views of at least five other people all at the same time, but without offering any tangibly punchable targets. A waving arm here, a waving arm there, just irritating enough to put a dampener on things without being consistently obstructive enough to warrant an actual broad daylight murder. Which neatly brings us to...

3. Massively inappropriate dancing.
I love it when crowds are into it. Waving your arms in the air is all good, clap along, scream, get mad into it. Mad clapping army waving, however, is not appropriate for Nude. It is not appropriate for Videotape. It is not appropriate for Exit Music (For A Film). It is, in fact, not appropriate for a good portion of Radiohead's repertoire. Are you hearing different songs to the rest of us, or what? You have heard Radiohead before, right? I mean, you’re wearing one of their t shirts so I assume so. Do you know that guy on stage? Yes. Yes you do. Which leads me to...

2. Screechily exclaiming, every five minutes and with apparently sincere astonishment, that "OMG THAT'S THOM YORKE!".
Yes. We know. It's supposed to be. There is no cause for alarm, it's alright.

"OMG THAT'S THOM YORKE!". We know it's Thom Yorke. We're wearing Radiohead t shirts, listening to Radiohead, at a Radiohead show, with Radiohead on stage. Far be it from me to suggest that Thom Yorke is Radiohead, but it's safe to say he's a fairly fundamental component part of the arrangement.

"OMG THAT'S THOM YORKE!". Now, if it wasn't Thom Yorke, it would suggest that there is something greatly amiss at this particular Radiohead show, perhaps warranting that kind of distress.

"OMG THAT'S THOM YORKE!". Please shut up.

In fairness, about half way through, she alternated between this, and the equally annoying “HE’S DOING HIS LITTLE DANCE! HE’S DOING HIS LITTLE DANCE! HE’S DOING HIS LITTLE DANCE! DO YOU SEE? HE’S DOING HIS LITTLE DANCE!” He’s fucking Thom Yorke, bitch. I mean, alright, you’ve made it abundantly clear that you know it’s Thom Yorke, but still... show some dance respect. He’s not some weird little jigging gnome or something. THAT’S THOM YORKE.

But by far, my personal favourite:

1. Messily sucking face with your boyfriend while making direct and incredibly unsettling eye contact with everybody behind you.
And not in a "Come on, join in!" kind of way, neither, but in an angrily accusatory "WTF are you looking at?" Well, I'm trying to look at fucking Radiohead, but your gigantic cavernously unoccupied head is in the fucking way. Again.

Kicking myself that I got there so late, because Bat For Lashes’ last couple of songs were great. The actual show was great, techy bother aside. The lightshow is properly amazing, but it wasn’t really dark enough to get the best out of it. Seeing as it’s the first sunshine I’ve seen since, I believe, 1993, I won’t complain about that, it’s just a shame because they do have a really remarkable set up. They played a long set, but it felt like they didn’t really engage their audience until the first techy hitches broke the ice.

The crowd were younger than I expected, gotta say, and they absolutely lost their minds for Jigsaw Falling Into Place, but other than that, and Girl Who Thinks She’s At Daft Punk, they were fairly sedate, largely due to being so heavily stoned. Wanna get a bit buzzy or whatever at a show, I understand, but I don’t get why anybody gets so cooked that they’re barely aware there’s a band on stage?

Anyway, great show. The band were in great form, they played a solid set, and as previously stated, that lightshow is astonishing. However, if forced to choose, I’d still pick another Arcade Fire show over that one any day, and stand confident in my Who’s More Overrated voting record.

Supercollider was nice, need to hear it a bit more to make up my mind on it, and I'm curious where it's gonna go.

I was there and really enjoyed the show. It was my second time seeing them, I had pretty good seats for this show and was in the lawn in for '03. While it wasn't as good as my first time seeing RH, which happens to be my favorite concert of all time, it was a really good day at the Shoreline.

The second day in Dublin has a pretty good set list, if I was there I would have been very pleased.

from the pictures it looks like you were in a pretty decent spot.

IT'S THOM YORKE!!!

IT'S THOM YORKE!!!

The jig is amazing, it's true.

And kudos for the Bowie dedication. By no means did she ruin the gig for me, but the truth remains that if I could have gotten away with smacking her insensible and rolling her into a ditch, I can't say I would have passed up the opportunity.

I mean, one of the stoners beside me reeked like a dead moose, I got a beer down my back, some drunks fell over us and the dude behind me spent a whole song humping me - none of that stuff was worth mentioning. It didn't overly bother me, 'cause it's to be expected, and I really am pretty easy going about gig annoyances. But this girl was like... she was an Olympic-standard pain in the ass. I mean, I know what a regular pain in the ass at a gig is like, I've been to an Enter Shikari show. She surpassed even that.

Also, that eye-contact kissing thing just freaks me out.

Bands play what they want to play. They play whatever they're feeling at the moment. Most cases, it's the new album, because that is simply what they're into at the moment. Done deal.

saying someone should play their older material could also be seen as saying "your new stuff is really only mediocre, stick with the older stuff", and can seem a bit mean or insulting.

People who are complaining about the setlist containing too much IR material are seriously overlooking the fact that the setlist changes up every night, that you can see what they played the night before you go see them and still get a surprise. How many other bands out there change the setlist up that much?

i'm just glad I got to see them put on an amazing show, regardless of what got played.

They're really only changing it up by 6-7 songs per show, though. Simply put, that's not nearly as much variety as they're capable of doing with 7 albums under their belts, nor is it as much variety as what they've done on previous tours.

They should do about 10 diff a night. I just think they want to kindof get this ''out of the way'' and they finally end up being bored of In Rainbows by july. They come back here and we get shows like the 2006 tour. 11 shows in and its expected of them to swap out half the set right?

well, lemme look at it this way: On average, you've got about 10-11 IR tunes being played a night.

and the following tunes have been in/out since they started in Florida:

Morning Bell
Like Spinning Plates
Exit Music
Fake Plastic Trees
Planet Telix
Pyramid Song
The Gloaming
You and Whose Army
Paranoid Android
How To Disappear Completely
Just
Optimistic
Airbag
Just
Talk Show Host
My Iron Lung
Myxomatosis
Climbing Up The Walls
The Bends
Street Spirit

and then Karma Police, Sail to the Moon, The Tourist, Wolf at the Door, and Kid A, all which have only been played once.

point is, it's alot more than just the same 6-7 tunes being in and out of the setlist.

I also think, that before we continue arguing about similar setlists, that we see what they do for some more of the European tour. Lets see how/if they change it up in the near future.

I'd think that if there was ever a spot on this tour so far that would really demand them to put more variety in the setlist, it was just the other night ago at the two-night stint in Dublin. I'm seriously baffled as to why they didn't. Maybe the coming weeks will be different..

suprefan

Tomorrow we'll see also,Bercy night 2. Also this weekend, 2 nights at Nimes.

Josh, Thom will start getting bored of it. Jonny will push new material in and itll vary. As most people have been feeling or thinking, APW seems the perfect launch point to give the audience the variety they have been known for on the last couple of tours. When you get paid that much money to play 2 nights of a festival, you better deliver.

Ill say this, considering I have been able to attend 2 nights of their shows and hope they switch it up insanely and then they didnt. I wasnt pissed or dissapointed honestly. The performance in Dallas was ridiculous and that more than makes up not throwing in 2 or 3 more different songs. Thomthom can attest to that. Climbing Up The Walls in Houston was worth the price of admission alone.

Alright, I know no seat assignments. But the ticket page has been updated and there are only a few listings left. Also it looks like the first batches of tickets will start to get mailed out very soon. Chances are they go in order by calendar date of the respective show. I see no reason as to why they cant inform l.a. ticket holders about their seats at this point. Shipping adress changes can still be made unless your order status says otherwise. Check your WASTE order tracking for that if you still had issues.

They played Idioteque after Karma Police. Phenomenal performance tonight. Possibly the best show i've ever been to. Last night I was in the front row on Johnny's side, but tonight i chose to sit down further back. Thom seemed to be in a very good mood tonight, and the only complaint I have is that they played all of In Rainbows two nights in a row :/
This better not happen at APW...

23. Bangers N Mash
24. Planet Telex

Wow, that set list mixed with the environment it was played in could potentially make that the best overall show of this tour so far. I wonder how the sound is in that place.

I would agree. Planet Telex, Street Spirit, Bodysnatchers & There There make it for me.

Opening with Reckoner, TALK SHOW HOST, Myxomatosis instead of the Gloaming, Street Spirit, No Surprises, Karma Police, Planet Telex? Now that's epic!

That looks like the place in the movie Ronin where they had the shootout where De Niro was shot.

where can i get this bootleg dvd of which you speak of.
[i dont have accounts to torrent sites :( ]

Grammar police says the proper sentence structure would be "Where can I get this bootleg DVD of which you speak?" You don't need to include the second "of." Grammar police out.

Hopefully tonight's setlist is just as good. I really want to hear myxomatosis. And also let's hope it doesn't rain tonight in nimes.

Well if Rain makes it epic....It looks like that's what's coming up according to the weather forecast. I'll be down in nimes this afternoon.

Should be able to, my friend who went to Nimes night 1 was on the rail and said she got some pretty good photos, so you are fine.
