Alright... This sounds stupid but I cannot for the life of me find a seating chart for the hollywood palladium. All of the ones I see are seated, but ticketmaster says i would get "GA3" tickets... Could someone explain?? Is it all just GA or is there different sections of GA kinda like the wiltern??

Thank you.

The Gobi would not be able to sustain the energy mass that she produces. Sahara all the way.

For the Palladium, as far as I know it is all GA.

Yeah, the 'GA' is the only part that matters. The number following is what group of tickets yours came from, that part is merely a tracking system for the venue/promoter.

rage patton
11-04-2008, 06:13 PM
December 9th. It was crazy expensive and it is the night before one of my finals... but I don't even care. Its gonna be a great show.

So my shows as of right now....

05/11 - Matt Nathanson
06/11 - Tom Morello
19/11 - Yeasayer
02/12 - Metallica
09/12 - Franz Ferdinand
31/12 - Fantomas...? (Hopefully)

I think that is a pretty eclectic mix of shows right there.

Fuck, I was actually just thinking about how awesome it would've been to hear Director's Cut live at a Halloween concert.

$45 vs. $75 for Thievery. That'll probably be the deciding factor.

I went to see Madonna last night.

Paul Oakdenfold opened the night with a dj set.

Brtiney Spears and Justin Timberlake made appearances during songs as was speculated on various outlets. Britney looked very lost on stage.

Madonna completely reworked "La Isla Bonita". I totally see a Gogol Bordello infulence. I don't recall her ever being interested in Eastern Europeanish Gypsy music before them.

During "Ray of Light" she had 2 dancers who were dressed suspiciously like "Daft Punk".

It seems like she takes a bunch of stuff and mashes it into a super puree.

She actually lives in Phoenix. Her fourth and final book in the installment came out in August, and stuff happens. You have not read the books I see.

Shakermaker I forget - do you live in LA? If so, look up next time you're driving around. I'm almost getting sick of how much promotion this movie is getting. The movie itself cost $37 million to make, and they're pumping $30 million worth of advertising on top of that. I think I saw about six billboards for it driving home tonight. Two bus stop posters.

Wolf Parade
The Blue Note
Columbia, MO
11/7/08

A friend and I drove up to Columbia last night to catch Wolf Parade at the Blue Note instead of waiting until Saturday to see them at the never enjoyable Gargoyle. It also worked out nicely that I would be able to catch the Missouri-Kansas State football game today.

We got to The Blue Note just as opening act Listening Party was starting their set.
Listening Party was good, but nothing to write home about. Several in the audience, though, really seemed to be into it. I imagine if I had been familiar with their catalogue I would have appreciated their set more.

Wolf Parade came out and suddenly it seemed like the venue got packed - I’m not sure where all the people came from - and upon the opening drums of set-opener “You Are A Runner and I Am My Father’s Son” the crowd immediately showed that they were going to be into the show.

The set list was split evenly betwee the bands two full lengths and featured all but one song from tehir latest, At Mt. Zoomer. The set’s flow was perfect and the band followed a basic pattern of alternating between Spencer Krug-lead songs and Dan Bockner-lead songs. It occured to me that I generall have a more immediate, visceral reaction to Dan’s song, but the band would lose what makes it so great if Spencer’s unique voice and songwriting were missing from the equation. The band was super tight and the show-closer “Fancy Claps” was played particularly facster and louder than the recorded version. All-in-all it was an absolutely great set.

After the show, we headed to a nearby bar for another drink, and trying to give my friend a taste of Columbia, we headed to a second bar for another drink. When we got to the second bar, however, we were told it was at capacity, so we headed to yet another place - I’m not sure what it’s now called, but it used to be The Music Cafe - where they let us in for a reduced cover because the band playing (who was never identified to us) was almost done. We walked in during the band’s encore break, hit the bar, ordered a drink and started talking. Over our conversation, the band got back up on the stage and my friend noted, without looking at the stage, that the guy sounded like former Drive-by Trucker guitarist Jason Isbell. Upon actually taking a look at teh stage, we realized it in fact was Jason Isbell. We had completely randomly walked into a Jason Isbell show at a tiny relatively obscure bar in Columbia, Missouri.

So that was fun.

I will have pictures tomorrow, but here’s Wolf Parade’s set list:

You Are a Runner and I am My Father’s Son
Soldier’s Grin
Call It A Ritual
The Grey Estates
Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts
Language City
An Animal In Your Care
Shine a Light
Grounds for Divorce
Fine Young Cannibals
California Dreaming
This Heart’s On Fire
Kissing The Beehive
–encore break–
It’s A Curse
I’ll Believe In Anything
Fancy Claps

I just went to an opening party at Club Nokia tonight and guys, this venue is fucking SICK. And I'm not just saying that. I was so excited that it turned out so well. The floor has the feel of the echoplex, minus the sloping ceiling and sound booth that blocks out everything. And the balcony is like Landmark Theatre stadium seating. Nice high-back puffy leather chairs that lean back. And it's super close to the stage. The front row of the balcony is probably the best seat in the house at any venue in LA. We only had a DJ so I'm not sure how the sound will be, but every seat sounded great. There's a gigantic lit-up bar in the back on the floor with about 15 bar tenders. The balcony has its own bar, as does the VIP room in between the two floors. VIP room is amazing, if you ever get a chance to check it out. Smoking patios that look over downtown, glass-encased stair cases, nice wooden floor in the GA section. I cannot wait to see a real show here.

Let's get a beck review up in here

PJandBompton
11-10-2008, 01:40 AM
gonna be quick...but Beck was fucking awesome...saw him at Street Scene and wasn't too impressed but i guess this being a hometown show and a new venue (not to mention he got a haircut) that he was re-energized...pretty much the same setlist from the rest of the tour, if not exactly the same...

during Nausea i think it was his son came out and was standing at the front of the stage...Beck didn't see him until he turned his head and he got a big laugh out of seeing his child in front of everyone...next song his kid had a maracca and was actually on beat haha

like i said though he had soooooo much more energy than at SS and it reminded me of youtube videos of old Beck...

Oh, BTW...the set tomorrow is going to be exactly the same as tonight for people going again...

Last night I was standing on the floor in the very back corner of the room. I could see Beck and the entire stage easily; he felt way closer than he was. And the sound was perfect. I even commented to my friend about how clear the audio was from all the way back there. No interference whatsoever. It sounded like he was playing five feet from me.

That sounds fantastic! Did the upstairs balcony fill up pretty quick? About what time did Beck finish up? Sorry for all the questions, tonight is going to involve some heavy planning because it's a week night and I am trying to catch the subway from the valley after work.

The next show we got for you is HUGE! On January 17, 2009, the entire Turbo Crunk Family all the way from Montreal will be playing the Gothic Theatre. Turbo Crunk is a combination of Megasoid, Hovatron and Lunice and when these guys get together on one stage... watch out they really keep the bass bumpin'! If you haven't heard or seen these guys yet, check em out and get ready to have your face melted as these boys really know how to throw a party.

I left during his encore at 11 pm. I was down there for a good half hour mid-set and it was not crowded - I think since a major part of last night was an industry party, a lot of people left early, so it could have been WAY more crowded. I'm sure it will be tonight. I hope. I'd like to see what it looks/sounds like at capacity.

As far as Club Nokia...the floor was NOT crowded, and it took the balcony awhile to fill up...one thing i noticed as well was that they do not check to see if you have a balcony ticket or floor ticket you can just walk onto the floor...

and YES, it looks just like House of Blues but with a seated balcony and better sound, better facilities, better everything pretty much...the sound was amazing last night...

I'm also going to Lupe on wednesday and Taking Back Sunday on thursday so it will be interesting to see if things are any different...

GA is GA for the ENTIRE VENUE, there is no designation for this show or any show at the Fonda. Fonda holds 1200. Also, I reccomend Retail location pick up, you just go to an outlet, and give them your Id and credit card, they will print your tickets, it costs an extra dollar, I just did that, piece of cake..
