anyone have any secrets for parking at the LA Greek? it'll be my first time there tonight, and the Bowl advice I got from supre has been fucking key...

No Greek secrets. Either you go up and park, or you park at the bottom of the hill and try to get a cab to get you up there, and walk down the hill if you like. I guess there were some restaraunts around there if you ate dinner they had a shuttle service. But yeah, you are gonna have to bite the bullet pretty much.

There are some side streets down the hill where you don't need a permit to park, but you either have to already know what they are or see some residents outside and ask them.

The show was so fun! A little disappointed that they didn't play We're Looking for a lot of Love and that they didn't mix New Order with No Fit State. My Piano definitely made up for it though. Pictures and video to come later on.

My Morning Jacket just obliterated my birthday night. I have to agree with the sound being a little off, but at the point of celebration, I didn't really mind. After all the festivities I had this weekend, there wasn't a better way to cap the night off than watching J. James do his thing. Oh wait, tonight is Hot Chip! It just continues!

Spiritualized did a secret myspace show at the Echo on friday...
well worth waiting half a day outside... absolutely one of the best shows i've ever seen. they played almost 2 hours, it was all electric, and it was fucking LOUD. and everyone got numbered posters at the end of the night!
It was one of those nights where you feel changed afterwards...
Having not given them much of a chance at Coachella because of the sound issues, I now feel like this has made up for it many times over.
Blown away...

God. Dammit. Reading reviews of this show makes me want to die in a fire.

Realistically what time do you think Gogol will go on at Detour?

Depends on When the Curfew is.

If they close out a stage with a full set I would say about 10.

Im pretty sure its safe to say they will go on in the 930-1030 hour.

Unless they put Gogol and TMV right after eachother.

I'm still debating Detour, if they schedule is decent and I want some Gogol seconds after the Grove show i will definately go.

This is an open question to everyone: if you could only go to one would it be Sigur Ros at the Greek or Detour? The obvious choice would be Sigur Ros but I've never seen them yet and I don't want my first time to be tainted by the crappy sound system there. As subtle as their tones are I think they would be the last band I'd want to see in a sub-par venue so I'm leaning towards Detour. I'm just not a fan of the headliners or sub-healinders, Datarock is good...

I went Gogol -> Battles -> Gogol at Vegoose haha. Worst conflict of the entire festival. If you don't like Gogol's music, so be it. But they are a blast live either way. I know a bunch of people who don't like Gogol's recorded music... but love their live show.
Personally, I enjoyed Gogol before I saw them live. Their music is heavily, and faithfully, rooted in Eastern European Balkan music. In fact, some of their songs use traditional Ukranian and Russian musical arangements. They just play the songs a lot faster and add some distorted guitar in there.

And just over 100 completed, so thats about 300 tickets, like a drop in the bucket out of the 16,000 seats sold. Again, they got em all right?

Just got back from Hot Chip... wow what a night.

To start it off, my girlfriend, brother, and friend realize once we get to the venue and attempt to enter that we had tickets to the show on the 21st, not tonight. So, we talked to the guy at the will call booth and explained our situation and told him it was my bday and he replaced our tickets with ones for tonight. Seriously saved my night. THEN he comes over to us like 5 minutes later and offers us wristbands to get us in the bottom pit! Sooooo nice.

Drums of Death opened. He reminded me of a mix between squarepusher and yacht. Really great stuff, loved his music and his energy. He looked pretty creepy with that paint on his face though.

Hot Chip was brilliant. The crowd seemed really into it and was dancing away. Got the new song plus My Piano, which was great. Drums of Death came out and played Over & Over with them. Then, toward the end of the encore, people started jumping on stage and the band members told the security to let us stay. I got on stage =) hehe

Tonight was such a blast. A great birthday present =) I thank that man who was generous enough to get me and my friends those tickets.

Just got back from CSS. Waited over an hour outside afterwards to meet the band. 3 of the girls came out, but not Lovefoxxx and the dude. They apparently were already at the hotel. They signed my record, setlist (yes, I got one), and magazine. But yes, great show. CSS is so much fun and full of energy live. Only played for an hour, too. Really enjoyed Tilly and the Wall, though. Ssion, though? Well, they were...interesting.

That doesn't surprise me, hell they changed it up more than a lot of bands these days. It's not like they're a jamband that is essentially obligated to change it every night.

Why do bands play 2 nights in a city if they make no plans for setlist changes? Beck better not pull that shit in a week and half.

Side note, those sets do remind me how angry I still am that HC didn't play Bendable Poseable at Coachella.

I don't think they expect people to go to both nights. many people here would, but I think most people wouldn't. I've never seen the same band two nights in a row.

I remember reading an interview with noel gallagher when he explained why he never changes setlists from night to night. he said it's because he once went to see the Smiths in manchester and they didn't play his favorite song. then he heard that they did play that song the next night, and he was pissed. he has a point. why is one audience special enough to get that song and not the other? I forget what song it was.

This is why i fucking loved Phish. You could see them 3 nights in a row, and their set lists would be completely different. If for some reason you did hear the same song, it would be a totally different experience.

yes, i know this is due to them being a jam band, but it was fucking awesome.

maybe you're right. I'd be curious to see statistics on how many people actually attend the same band multiple consecutive nights when available. it would depend on the band I guess. Morrissey would have a high number. other bands might be smaller.

Radiohead and Morrissey would have the highest numbers. If I weren't sick, I'd be at work tonight, and if I weren't at work tonight, I'd be seeing CSS again. Same set both nights, probably, but so much fun and I still need to meet Lovefoxxx.

BECK TO FOLLOW UP SOLD OUT HOLLYWOOD BOWL SHOW WITH NOV.
10th GRAND OPENING OF CLUB NOKIA
New Single Featuring Jay Reatard "Gamma Ray" Cover and Non-LP Track "Bonfire Blonde" Out Sept.
30

"Beck conquers the Hollywood Bowl... the new pollution is here to stay"--LOS ANGELES TIMES

"no-nonsense... it was perfect"--VARIETY

"Dipping from all over his ever-expanding catalog, the show provided evidence that the iconic Los Angeles songwriter is as versatile as he is inspired.
"--LA WEEKLY

Los Angeles, CA September 22, 2008 - Having triumphantly pulled off the biggest hometown headline engagement of his career--last Saturday's sold out Hollywood Bowl extravaganza --BECK has confirmed a return engagement: The multi-platinum multiple Grammy winner will open CLUB NOKIA in downtown Los Angeles on November 10th. Tickets go on sale Saturday, September 27th at 10am PST via Ticketmaster.

In other Beck touring news, a third New York show has been added to his stand at new York's United Palace Theater. The new show will take place October 8th, a day before the sold out October 9th and 10th dates.

Additionally, Beck will release a pair of singles available digitally September 30th and on vinyl October 7th. The A-side for both will be "Gamma Ray" from his acclaimed new album Modern Guilt. B-Sides will be Jay Reatard's cover of "Gamma Ray" and the non-album Beck original "Bonfire Blonde.
"

Located at the corner of Olympic and Figueroa, the acoustically ideal and artistically intimate, live entertainment venue, known as CLUB NOKIA, is ready to roll. This is the newest, and largely promising, addition to downtown Los Angeles. Nearing completion, with its state of the art sound and lighting capabilities and seating configurations that can easily accommodate over 2,300 guests, in addition to BECK, CLUB NOKIA will open its doors to an impressive group of A-list music acts, and other choice artists this fall.

Steps from the STAPLES Center, the club rivals other venues in L.A. with technological advancements never before seen or experienced in a venue its size. The aesthetically pleasing interior, complemented with hardwood floors and theatre-style seating in the balcony, is sure to draw favor from patron and performer alike. CLUB NOKIA will prove to be the ultimate location to host both corporate and private events, as it features an inviting VIP Lounge where guests can chill before and after the shows. Catering for the venue will be provided by world-renowned chef, Wolfgang Puck. The outdoor patios on all three levels of the club afford breathtaking views of downtown L.A.

CLUB NOKIA will be booked, by Lesley Olenik, Talent Buyer for Goldenvoice, a division of AEG LIVE and the industry leader in the development of iconic entertainment destinations, record-breaking tours and festivals, innovative marketing and promotions, and multi-channel broadcast productions services. Goldenvoice has been a Los Angeles mainstay for decades and continues to evolve well into the twenty-first century.

With the addition of CLUB NOKIA, L.A. LIVE promises to become the epicenter for live music. CLUB NOKIA provides a more intimate venue ideally suited for the artist appreciative of their fan and enhancement of their craft. New artists will look back on their time there as most memorable.

A true, one-of-a-kind entertainment campus, comprised of a 6-block radius of downtown, L.A. LIVE will prove to be easily accessible as it is located near the 110 Harbor Freeway and Metro Station. Complete with its varied culinary offerings, live entertainment options and cinemas, L.A. LIVE is focused on, and committed to, the “all live experience.

I knew that MBV must not be missed I bought my tickets in May, and knew when it rolled around it was a good decision, I'm going to a Medical club before going to the show, some pain relief after the show, damn my ears will be ringing, I want to me front and center, not hear the amps but feel them...

I care. I love the killers a lot, but holy shit their new song/single on myspace REEKS. i mean its just plain awful

HAHAHA!!!

Right after I posted that I agreed that song sucks I got in my car and headed to class. KROQ was on and the DJ chick was talking when somebody called in and said, "can I just make a comment about the new Killer's song?" "Sure." "It really sucks." "Alright, straight to the point."

Hahahaha

RIP Killers

Back from Raconteurs. Overall, it was a great show. My main complaint is that their set seemed really short. The crowd wasn't ready for it to end, and it seemed like the band wasn't either. It might have been that SDSU has a curfew, or Jack might have been feeling under the weather (he looked pretty gloomy on stage). Anyway, they sounded phenomanal. Highlights were Steady as she goes, Many Shades of Black, and Hold Up.

1. Consolers of the Lonely
2. Level
3. Blue Veins
4. Top Yourself
5. Intimate Secracy
6. Rich Kid's Blues
7. Old Enough
8. The Switch & the Spur
9. Steady As She Goes

10. You Don't Understand Me
11. Many Shades of Black
12. Hold Up

It would have been nice to hear Broken Boy Soldier, Salute Your Salution, Attention, and Carolina Drama added in...
