All you weak-willed ninnies who failed to buy Shellac tickets really fucked up. They were tremendous tonight. They're definitely putting the final touches on some new songs: they played at least 6 new ones tonight, and a few of them sound more developed than they did a month ago. The Q&As sucked compared to ATP: the average LA music fan is an idiot, apparently, who gets drunk and asks for favors. However, Shellac can crush those morons with two words, and they do. Bob talked about his pants twice: he told us he got them "at the store, then I went to my basement and dyed them." He also told us that "I took them out of Sammy Hagar's closet." Helen Money, the opener, was fuckin' spectacular. She's a solo cellist who plays post-rock metal songs. She did a fantastic cover of The Big Crux by The Minutemen, and she sounded nearly as heavy as Shellac, albeit quieter.

Drunk, forgetful attempt at a setlist:

New song
My Black Ass
Copper
Be Prepared
The Watch Song
Steady as She Goes

about 6 songs I can't recall

New Song
New Song-Fuck the guy from the Empty Bottle
New Song-Cum
Slow-Mo Song
The End of Radio
New song
Crow
Prayer to God

nathanfairchild
10-21-2011, 02:35 PM
the band just addressed it on their fb page:

If there is some stress or frustration stemming from the cost of the ticket price in Vancouver, we would love to help alleviate that a little bit by recommending that you buy your tickets at an outlet with a reduced service fee or at the venue box office. Also, we are working on a few special things just for this show. Hope that helps a bit. Shows should be fun.

Here are a couple suggestions:

Zulu Records - 1972 West 4th Ave, Vancouver, BC - http://www.zulurecords.com/tickets.php

Red Cat Records - 4332 Main Street Vancouver, BC - www.redcat.ca/concert-tickets/

Happy for you, Josh. It wouldn't have been fair if they went back into hibernation without you having seen a proper headlining set.

I would have been so incredibly bummed had they broken up again without me seeing them inside of a small venue. I am so excited this is happening.

I lost my mind at Coachella. I can't even imagine what this show is going to be like. Its at my favorite venue I have ever been to as well. It is seriously too perfect.

Josh, how much was your DFA ticket? I guess a lot of people are complaining about the ticket prices for the Vancouver show...

$60 after fees. I am quite surprised it is so high, considering how cheap the rest of their headlining shows have been. Hell yeah to that facebook comment though. I wonder what kind of "special things" they are working on. What could it possibly be? Lining up some awesome openers perhaps? An even crazier light show? Either way, I didn't really even flinch at the ticket price.

suprefan
10-21-2011, 06:59 PM
Maybe they'll actually play every song. And I think the high price came to the money they were getting paid, nothing else. The L.A. solo show was so cheap due to the fact to the boatload they got for FYF and Coachella. So you figure in their contract it had included a l.a. show that wouldnt be so high priced.

Them playing all their songs would be pretty rad. I think its going to be something more than that though. And Vancouver is the highest costing show they have played to date. Their two showing coming up in Toronto were just over $20 I believe, their show in Edmonton is around $40, Banff is free, and their shows in London at the HMV Forum and Brixton were 20 Pounds, so, like $30ish. And Vancouver is $60? Thats a big price hike.

Holy hot damn you guys. The War on Drugs was so good tonight. They started with a great groove and just locked in with it for pretty much the whole show. The singer/guitarist was really funny and told great stories, and he just has such epic songs that really breathe in the live context. If you have a chance to see them anytime soon, do not miss out. It was really something else.

Primus rocked last night. The trio were super tight as always and the set of fan favorites and hits was great and then Green Naugahyde in its entirety was fantastic as it really is a record meant to be heard live. The Wiltern was the perfect venue for them too. Hearing everybody sing along to Tommy the Cat at the very end was the greatest and could only be achieved in a smaller venue like that.

This is great. I'm sure you've read about that time they were shutting the festival down somewhere because it was raining so hard it was getting unsafe so Kevin Lyman told them they could play one more song. Of course they would choose to play it then.

Nice request, brah.

This is great. I'm sure you've read about that time they were shutting the festival down somewhere because it was raining so hard it was getting unsafe so Kevin Lyman told them they could play one more song. Of course they would choose to play it then.

May have to hit up the Anaheim nofx/lagwagon show, hello mid 90's flashback. My first real show at 16 years old was nofx, bad religion, etc. At the palladium epitaph summer nationals all for $6. Those really were the good old days. Still have the shirt hanging in my closet.

She played for about an hour and half last time. alot of improvising and covers. 3 of her own songs. still brilliant. I've seen her maybe 5x at largo and always think we're pretty lucky to be in LA to see this show because fans everywhere else around the world would kill to see this. I would be surprised if she ever tours again. So an intimate show for 40 bucks every so often is a real treat.

Good rule of thumb is to expect most shows at Largo to be like that, or at the very least something totally different from a normal touring gig. The artists are definitely encouraged to strip down and get casual with the audience there. It's great.

London, Royal Albert Hall sounds a blast. Only con is feels like a huge venue but only holds about 6K.

I always loved Leeds, O2 Academy, holds around 2,500. Close to the center of the city. Manchester Academy is about same size, nice venue close to the Student Union there. Liverpool is the pretty much the same vibe.Cambridge Corn Exchange is just as good as the rest.
The only one I'm not familiar with Glasgow.

If I would pick any it would be Royal Albert Hall because it is a pretty unique venue choice for Orbital. All the others are great too, but RAH it is.

Nothing off the first album, and the middle of the show was definitely filled with Life Fantastic stuff. It was a blast. Oh, and I saw ZachTheEskimo in and around the pit pretty much the whole time.

Yeah you guys, seriously. Man Man, so fun last night. So many sing-alongs.

Anybody see Male Bonding last night? Put your hand down you fucking liar. I swear to god me and this one dude were the only ones there for the most part. It started off as the most awkward, embarrassing show I have ever been to. I found myself staring at the ground and avoiding eye contact.

It was at the Constellation Room @ Galaxy Theatre. Some other band was playing in the main room. This room was literally closed off by a heavy drape. No sound bleed issues from what I noticed.

They sounded great. I think theyre great. I will see them every single time they play. But maybe its literally just me.

So long story short, you're giving people a hard time about not seeing a band in fucking Santa Ana? You do realize they're playing the Satellite (much more appealing venue, much more appealing city) tonight, right?

WOO! What a night....1st time in my life, saw 3 concerts tonight!! Went to HARD and saw Japanese Popstars and Goose who put on an incredible set and said they would be back in America next year. Right after them, I hopped in a cab and went to the Wiltern and saw Matt Nathanson, solid set, enjoyable....show ended at 10:45pm, so I figured why not try to see what the scene is like at the Fonda for NERO, paid off a security guard to the sold out show and got in.... NERO were supposed to go on at midnight, but didnt end up going on till near 1:30am....but the show as INSANE. Very excellent, hoping the LIVE set comes to Coachella next year.

The Field were EXCELLENT. The live performance took the songs to a whole new level for me. The drummer was a beast. But then, one of the speakers cut out and they had to finish (what ended up being) their last song with just bass and drums. Not sure if that was going to be their last song anyway but I seriously would have been down for another hour +.

Really looking forward to seeing them again.

^ I'll second the praise for The Field last night, although I wonder if the cut out near the end was intentional? In any case, I'm loving the live band setup and also wish they would have played for a lot longer (I know the songs themselves are long and that they jam them out a bit, but I think they only played 4 or 5). They need to be at GroundhogChella this year, for sure (if only to make up for their cancellation in 2008).

By the way, did you stick around for Zomby rag and bone? My girlfriend was exhausted by the end of The Field so we didn't stay for his set.

MSI are amazing, I must say. Their work ethic as a band is insane and I don't even like their genre but I've ended up seeing them about 7 times over the years and every single time they bring an energy that is beyond admirable. The lead singer is ridiculous on stage but they are really friendly after all their shows. Hung out with them a couple times and they are all funny, normal people that are in on the joke. I would highly recommend checking them out for the odd crazy fun factor.. my 2 cents

So i have to talk about the Danzig Legacy show last night, and i hope bryan agress with me - it was INCREDIBLE! The band was extremely tight, Glen's voice sounds its best, and he was in a really jovial mood and interacted with the crowd a lot. They played a good selection of Danzig and Samhain stuff, and the Misfits material was played blisteringly fast. i could believe how fast "Bullet" sounded! It was loud as fuck, the absolute loudest i've ever heard the Gibson. Doyle still looks like a fucking monster on stage and was playing like a possessed beast. The enthusiasm and energy in the crowd was just at an extreme high, and I can't really express how special it felt to be screaming along the lyrics to "Halloween" with 6,000 people to Glen Danzig singing it on Halloween night. it was just such a great show. I really wish i was going to Fun Fun Fun Fest so i could watch it again!

I agree wholeheartedly. I saw Glenn a few years ago at the Greek doing a Halloween show with Doyle in tow, and it was SO bad. This was a complete 180. There were some weird sound problems (one of the guitarists was either continually doing the Zack Wylde bends and trills or he was cutting in and out at the start) and the sound REALLY fucked up at the end of Last Caress, but the fact that I get to even say that I saw the sound fuck up while the good half of the Misfits played Last Caress is something else. I thought the Danzig set was pretty damn good and the Samhain set was even better. The Misfits stuff was so awesome though, that 20 minute blast was worth the 40 bucks alone.

I'm bummed I didn't get to hang out with y'all beforehand, and I apologize if I was in complete space: I was feeling horrible most of the time (sinus infection), but Danzig really made it worthwhile, and hearing Bullet was absolutely killer.

The reason I don't think it was intentional was the looks/smirks they were all giving eachother after it happened. They seemed unsure of how exactly they were going to end it.

Then, afterwards, Goddollars was still having sound issues and sean was running back and forth between him and the soundboard trying to fix it.

I stayed for a few minutes of Zomby and it was pure awful. Laptop DJing showmanship at its worst. Not only did the music sound bad but he was entirely more concerned with the logistics of smoking his joint while keeping his Guy Fawkes mask on then the quality of the performance.

That's a good point about The Field, and I guess the electronic elements cutting out was a bit too abrupt for it to be planned. I guess I thought it may have been deliberate because the bass was still working, but whatevs - they made it work, and it was still an awesome set nonetheless.

I'm also glad we didn't stick around for Zomby if he was that terrible. I've also heard that his live shows aren't the best, so I don't feel too bad for not staying if all he was preoccupied with was smoking a joint.
