Spooks: is living in New York and getting to see so many shows really awesome?
Living in NY sucks cause everything is so expensive but you can't complain with free shows that happen almost weekly. Also it doesn't hurt when bands like Godspeed, LCD, Pavement and etc play 4 nights in a row.
P.S. And I guess not having to drive anywhere so you can get as fucked up as you can while most bars stay open till 4am.

They don't really get on stage much anymore to do less then 2.5 to 3 hours anymore. I could see it being less if they play a new album straight through or something like the secret gig for 21st Century Breakdown, but even that had a greatest hit thing afterwards. It won't be earlier then 9.
They barely did 2 hours when I saw them at the Fonda show. So I wouldnt be totally counting on a full 3 hours set.

Geez sorry Mr. Tom, maybe you can go to bars next weekend in NY where they'll play covers of Ramones for ya. I'm off to go see Nas cause he sucks ass!

You know what sucks? It sucks when you put together an insult that you think is clever and kinda funny, and it goes right over the recipient's head. Like, it doesn't even register with the insulted person that he's been insulted. And yeah, a few passersby might get a giggle out of it, but it's not the same. Enjoy your show.

The show, a benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (a national nonprofit dedicated to controlling and curing the disease and improving the quality of life for those with CF), will be held tomorrow at 10 p.m. Doors will open at 8 p.m.,
Sounds like 10 show time. Also, it looks like we getting a few new song debuts from people that were at sound check. cya guys there. If you see an asian dude w/ black glasses say whattup. They'll prob be tons of guys that fit that description around the neighborhood but very few inside the venue. This is turning into a pretty good OSL pre-show!

I think BV is fine. I just said it was useless for figuring out show schedules. Hence my comment regarding our handicapped friend's reading comprehension.
The funny thing is - I wonder if he meant to do this? - when I told him his reading comprehension sucked, he thought I was attacking his grammar. If he did that on purpose, it's a reasonably clever little joke. But I don't think he did, which makes it even funnier.
In the end, I correlate intelligence with musical taste, which explains why this cretin listens to so much dreck.

Green Day fuckin rocked it tonight!! Excellent show, about 2h 15min or so.... I think close to 20 brand new songs, and about 8 classics? Tons of hardcore fans at the front, good pits, lots of VIP douchebags at the back of room. The band looked like they could have kept playing for a couple more hours, I have no idea how they can perform new songs so perfectly and not fuck up when you're playing so much brand new material. I was about 3ft from Billy Joe, got a guitar pick, the band sounded top notch. I was surprised that the band didnt mention anything about CF once during the entire show. I thought that was odd. Here is what setlist.fm has listed for the set. Based on the new material, the 1st half of the new stuff was excellent, very old sounding Green Day, some real gems, then the 2nd half of new shit was terrible, falling asleep worthy. I would have been very pissed if they ended their set on it. The whole place was going nuts once Welcome To Paradise started playing...

The Green Day show was great but nothing life altering.
Pros: Seeing a band that huge for about an audience of 150 people since 50 or so people in the venue were just seated at the bar chilling during their set. Getting to near some great and some mediocre new material live and hear these songs performed for the first time ever. Amazing encore energy wise of some Green Day classics including hear "Only of You" for the first time.
Cons: First....I know I have not been that may shows relative to people on the board (around 170) but this was the WORST crowd of any show EVER. Tons of douchebags who cared ZERO about Green Day, just wanted to push and shove for no reason and were just plain jerks. My guess is a lot of the Tiki Bar "regulars" or friends were allowed in cuz the show was like 70% major assholes and 30% die-hard Green Day fans. You would hope for such a special Green Day show there would be a higher percentage of REAL fans. Seriously, I usually try and not let the crowd influence my opinion of a show too much but it was IMPOSSIBLE this time. PLace was swamped with 50 year old surfer Burnout (no pun intended) assholes.
Overall, glad I went...extremely unique experience and they KILLED every song in the encore.

The fact that you guys have a bar called Tiki Bar is amazing. When I was walking down sunset blvd I think to sunset junction festival in 2008 for broken social scene and etc, I did see a bar named Tiki....wonder if that is where they played....anyway with the show being 21+, I thought you kids would say it was amazing but with that setlist, I can sorta understand with bunch of new tunes being played. What color was Billie Joe's hair?

You're thinking of Tiki Ti. Totally different. Tiki Ti probably has a maximum capacity of 20 people. Amazing drinks though. The place Green Day played last night was in Costa Mesa, like 40 miles south of Sunset junction.

Smashing Pumpkins 2011 Tour Dates:I saw them three years ago, still a great show... Jimmy Chamberlin and Billy were really showing off and challenging each other. It was a lot of fun. Now that Jimmy's gone, though, I am kind of unmotivated to fork over a dime (or many dimes) to see a bunch of touring musicians bow before the Billy Corgan show. Especially with the news of all of the pre-break up SP material being remastered with bonus tracks and released later this year or in 2012. Yet again the almighty dollar has really ruined what was once pretty damn pure, and awesome.

i saw them a few times with jimmy and twice without and i gotta say that the new drummer is very good (very young, 20 i think? but very good). if they came near me again i'd go, but i don't think i'd travel too far unless it was a special siamese dream show or something.

Yeah I am probably one of the biggest SP fans on this board...seen them 7 times (new and old line-up). Really enjoyed the '07 and '08 shows I saw with Jimmy on drums...the new drummer Mike is very good but nothing can replace Jimmy.
I saw them in '10 in Santa Barbara and it wasn't very good AT ALL.
I'll still go to the Wiltern show since its my favorite venue in town and figure I'll give SP/Billy one last shot.
The 2011 reissues of Gish, Siamese and Pisces are all supposed to sound great with tons of tracks that have never been released so I look forward to that.

Agree, I hope they really cut out some of their 2nd half of new songs stuff from appearing on their new album. I agree...The Eternal shows were way better than the Daydream nation shows in 07, dont hate, but they were just going through the motions in 07, while 2009/2010 had to much energy! Loved the Wiltern and Hollywood Bowl shows...

The Daydream show was the worst SY show I've seen. The regular set was so boring (and Daydream is one of my favorite albums of all time) but they really kicked it into gear for the encore.
I don't know why they had so much energy at those past few sets, but that was the big difference. It seemed like they really WANTED to play the old material for the first time in a long time, and it was perfect.

For some reason, Thurston introducing Anti-Orgasm (This song is called. . .An. . .Ti. . .Or. . .Gasm) is something that gets stuck in my head from time to time.

You know, the one that only confirms that the band The Strokes is not a cover band. There's no assurance it's the actual Strokes, and I REALLY doubt that Kyle H. Mabson and Sean Carnage would get them to play the monday night carnage. The previous record for big name at one of those is probably No Age.
And I'll still definitely go on down to Pehrspace and try to see it. Clipping is still good, regardless of who else is there.

The Strokes you are referring to are not playing at pehrspace. A different band called the strokes is scheduled to play. Please contact sean carnage for details and clarification. Pehrspace does not mean to disappoint anyone.

No word yet from Sean Carnage. I still pull up the website and they still have The Strokes info. Why would another band name themselves The Strokes anyway? Plus link to the band they supposedly aren't plus add "Not a cover band". Can I start a band named Neutral Milk Hotel and play at Pehrspace? Just sayin'. It's still on until I hear from Sean Carnage. I feel bad for Pehrspace though since it's out of their hands since they're not the promoter promising to bring the former Coachella co-headliner. :sorry

and it's done:
http://www.seancarnage.com/2011/08/15/you-can-hate-me-now-i-cancelled-the-strokes/
There’s suddenly been a lot of interest in next week’s Pehrspace show, co-starring Clipping (Captain Ahab + Rale), MC Gaff E (from the UK), DJ Baglady and Secret Friends.
The headliners were to be a band whose moniker reflects the aspirations (sometimes disguised) of an entire generation. That this caused so much furor is a shock, but not entirely surprising in retrospect. A lot of the young people with guitars and mics in their hands right now are because of certain musicians named Julian, Nick, Albert Jr., Nik and Fab.
When the Strokes (not a cover band) called me originally, a Pehr appearance sounded like a fun treat for the regular showgoers. Lord knows we’ve done crazier things. It also was not a publicity stunt. I know Strokes fans are mostly gonna hate what I do at Pehr.
But, in the end, it all comes down to one thing: your safety at my shows is my highest concern.
Anyone who lived through the Who in Cincinnati in 1979 like I did knows this is nothing to fuck with.
Therefore, at 12:13pm this afternoon, I called the Strokes and cancelled their appearance. To their credit they were apologetic and worried about me and Pehrspace mostly.
I will have a sign at the door next week saying “The Strokes are not playing at Pehrspace.” Their appearance will not be rescheduled (and if they are, I will not be telling you on the Internet).
I love those guys so I’m not going to apologize for booking them. But this is out of hand.

Does anyone remember when a well-known promoter in the San Diego industrial/goth scene promoted a Bjork show in a lesbian bar about 8-10 years ago? He sold hundreds of tickets, only to find out he'd been duped by Bjork's so-called manager, who ran off with all the money, screwing the fans who paid. The dumb ass promoter never recovered from that fiasco.

Little Dragon was really good tonight. The main set was all new material aside from two songs I think, and there was a noticeable difference in energy. The new songs are more reserved, and aren't quite as much of a party live. The encore was nice and long, 5 songs with a few of them being really extended. They played way longer than I thought they would, almost 1hr 45mins altogether.
Good show, but the old songs they played really gave me a glimpse of what they must have been like live before, and now I'm kicking myself for waiting to see them until now.

I personally like the venue (others on here don't). it's SUPER tiny. The neighborhood is kind of ghetto, but I've never felt too bad about parking on the street, which is really easy to do (and free). they have a bar inside that serves beer and wine only. They have a small craft beer selection usually, along with the usual suspects. There's a nice smoking patio in the back.

I saw the show being advertised on Fuse tv. They are going to air it on that channel I guess.

Mostly $15 lots all around, best bet is going to be a small underground parking garage that usually charges $8. It is going to be on the opposite side of the street from the venue heading west on Sunset past the venue, a couple blocks give or take.

More important question is it safe to assume Major Lazer would close all the way until 8? Trying to attempt a freebie triple header. This into Daedelus set at the Brainfeeder showcase from 7:45-8:30 into James Pants and Secret Guest (prob Mayer Hawthorne) at Skybar to end it all off. Possible or Impossible? hmmm. prob just end up getting drunk at Villians after Mad Decent and calling the whole plan off.

There's a random heated pool if you wanted to go swimming for some odd reason. Also, they have a cash bar where you buy drink tickets and they serve until sunrise. It's a good afterhours option. Maybe a quadruple dip is in the cards for Saturday. hmmmm.

Get ready to take a trip to Seattle Nirvana fans; this will surely be a great show.
On September 20 at the Sky Church/Experience Music Project, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic will join a gaggle of Seattle musicians to perform Nirvana's Nevermind in full (for the 20th anniversary in case you didn't know).
The concert will also feature Fastbacks, the Long Winters, Visqueen, Vaporland, Campfire OK, Valis, Ravenna Woods and more. The concert will also serve as a benefit for Seattle music industry biggie, Susie Tennant, who is battling cancer.
You can see more info here courtesy of 107.7 The End.

The Sade show was that rare thing: a perfect concert.
It was perfectly paced, the band (her same players since 1980) were note and tone perfect throughout, her incredible voice was flawless, but the big surprise was the staging.
This isnt just a standard "band plays songs with video screens" show. It is staged like a piece of theater. Not in the sense of actors and plots and stuff like that but there is a lot of very clever stagecraft and subtle misdirection used. And some really inventive visual things that I won't spoil for you here.
We would have been perfectly happy if it were just her and her band playing that awesome catalogue of songs, but it really does transcend that.
I was expecting it to be a good show. I wasnt expecting it to (honestly) be the show of the year. Nothing can top that show we saw last night.
So yeah, youre in for a treat. And those of you that still have a chance to see it would be advised not to miss this.
