Wow, if Explosions does FYF, and the DFA1979/Descendents "rumor" is actually true, that fest has really become a true powerhouse (for being a smallish local festival anyway).

Thanks for both.

I'm actually totally disinterested in the Incubus show. Which is awful considering my hype before the album was out. I'd only thing about it because it's the sb bowl and Im closer to it. Ugh.

But deerhunter. Totally gonna be there.

Glad you are satisfied. Long time coming, eh. Do you remember about when they started? Did you happen to catch Hush Hush and/or Smith Westerns as well? How were they?

They played from 10:02-11:17 precisely. :)

Smith Westerns were fantastic. A lot of their songs sound the same, but they have a really talented lead guitar player who stands on the left and has the touch of someone three times his age.

I walked in during Hush Hush's last song and it was some of the worst shit I've ever seen in my lifetime ever. Just one guy, jumping up and down and singing with music being played but no band. Absolutely abysmal. The crowd ate it up though.

They were on the first one in 2001. Blink would only do 80 mins or so in this situation, MCR will be fine with an hour. Besides, Mark and Tom's voices arent going to be able to handle 2 months of touring like this if they did a full 100 min set each night.

I am not as big of a fan for Incubus as I gather you to be for Radiohead, but the day as a whole spent with friends, enjoying a nice drive up the 101 which I rarely get to do, and experiencing a new venue with a band I really enjoy sounds pretty good to me.

This place doesnt seem to be that big. It has Ga and seating. The place books bands like Puddle of Mudd and Goo Goo Dolls. Dont know how quality the place will be...

Yeah I got the idea that it was on the smaller side too. Looked up capacity and it says 4000. Thats same as the joint right? I'm not really concerned about quality of the venue, but I think it will be way easier and cheaper to get something GA there than at the bowl.

I'm definitely considering more then 1 show with my younger brother. Will all depend on prices and what's available at the hw bowl. The vegas show is going to be the priority I think considering the smaller venue size and GA availability.

To combine two topics, It'd be nice if they added the sb bowl in there like they did on 09 reunion tour in that week before the San Diego show.

Also, a friend pointed out the Tempe show is apart of the Fall Frenzy festival. Could be a good time providing a solid lineup.

Yeah definitely gonna be my priority. Can't really find very much info on the venue, or good pictures but did see a seating chart and it almost looks like they have some seats right up front (the golden circle), then GA to the sides and behind? Thats a little concerning, but we'll see maybe it will be a different lay out for a band like blink. Also looks like the tickets will be available through the hotels website.

You can also pick and choose performances. My favorites were St Vincent, Titus Andronicus, Buke & Gass and Delicate Steve (once the guest vocalists come around.)

Also it looks like a good number of videos are up on YouTube; I linked to a couple at Facebook and edited in some Titus Andronicus in this thread but you can also see Delicate Steve w/Lee Renaldo and more.

The venue can have a standard GA set up. They change the Gold Circle/VIP, depends on the event. For one event last year, the Gold Circle was just some bleachers at the side of the stage.

Word on that venue, they have a bad habit of canceling events-usually due to poor ticket sales. They canceled Echo and the Bunnymen last week. It is a strange venue choice because it is way out of town and not easy to get to unless you drive.

Thanks for the info, I am not too familiar with venues in Vegas but it did seem like sort of a strange choice to me. I think Blink and MCR could sell it out though, so I'll take my chances of the show being canceled. All things aside though and assuming the show does go on, how is the venue?

The only criticism is that it is outdoors in Las Vegas, so in the summer even at 10pm the sweat is dripping-not a problem in Oct. That aside, it is okay. Sound could be better, but it is more functional rather than amazing.

Just so you know, Red Rock is way off the Strip. It is way west on Charleston and a taxi from the Strip would be $40. You can get a bus (206) on Charleston.
Like I say, I have had them cancel two concerts and fully expect another 'Tears For Fears' to get pulled. Recently Red Rock has been trying to book younger/alternative acts to get a younger, rather than country music acts like Toby Keith etc. I don't know if this will work because this venue appeals more to locals.

Most locals won't go anywhere off-Strip. If blink were at the Joint or Cosmo they would sell-out. Red Rock would leave me with some doubts.

Should add there is an amphitheater and sandbar where they have concerts. The amphitheater tends to be for seated shows.

In that time alone, we have had a new Joint and the Pearl and this year the Cosmopolitan added Book and Stage, Blvd Pool and Chelsea Ballroom. Local venues from the Bunkhouse, Beauty Bar, Dive Bar, Double Down. The Neon Reverb music festival. Really? I agree it has gotten better in the last 5 or so years, but it's still not close to great. What artists do you actually want to see? The point I am illustrating is that there are a lot of venues in Vegas, considering it is a medium sized market. It ain't LA, SF or Seattle but they are large markets. So those bands aren't to your taste, do you ever go to local venues?

I'll give you a hint. It starts with "Kings" and it ends with me proving my point. Why isn't Explosions in the Sky playing Las Vegas? They play a half dozen other places in the southwest. Is there really no market for good music here? We have a similar population to Portland, Oregon and their music scene kills ours.

A little unfair given Foo Fighters haven't even added West Coast and my info is they have a Vegas date, Best Coast just played four nights and some of those played the Matador show in fall. Additionally, those are mainly summer/early fall dates, which Las Vegas tends to get left off. The peak season for Las Vegas shows is Sept-April.

Funny you bring up Portland, I used to live there. Yes there are loads of small venues and local bands, but there aren't many venues. So many medium/large artists often bypass Portland for Seattle.

However, Las Vegas is often an expensive trip for many small-medium sized acts. The act of just getting here means it isn't usually economic for a band to play here...Phoenix, LA, San Diego are all 4-5 hours drive.

But even beyond the casino venues there is a good local music/arts scene that has emerged in the last few years. The things you complain about lacking in Las Vegas, I have heard from friends about San Diego, Tucson, Phoenix, Portland etc.

Its not even really a ''venue'', they set up a stage on the grass next to the library. And yeah, its maybe 250 TOPS. Arcade Fire was ridiculous there...

I got my Explosions in the Sky ticket for Big Sur!!!! Fuck yes. I'm so happy right now. I have to work friday until 1pm, so I had no clue how I was going to get a ticket. Such a relief. Bought a SD ticket too because they were so cheap, even though I don't want to see them there again.

I'm so fucking lucky. First Animal Collective, then Arcade Fire, and now Explosions the Sky. My 3 favorite bands.

The new album is fine. I think peopel are putting too much pressure for it to be like perfect. They were great with the new songs when I saw them back in Feb. Itll be a dance party for sure when they play.

The best thing is that they balanced the new and the old well in their set. There is a bit more dynamic with all the tracks mixed in. Thats one thing I was glad about this time around.

So the Coco presents a night of comedy and basic cable band last night at the Troub was a good time and ended w/ Conan coming on stage and jamming with the band for 4-5 songs shredding on guitar and singing then taking to the drums on the encore. It's a shame that other fans didnt take the chance that he would show and didnt go. Troub was just about 2/3 full if that. He did a comedic cover of "Creep" and alot of blues/rock covers.

Shanica Knowles on TheSceneStar

Good afternoon. Hopefully everything is great on your end. My name is Otha Davis III of Vakseen LLC. I'm a Manager/A&R Consultant for a few labels as well as artists. I'm contacting you to see about having a feature/interview done on one of our clients, Shanica Knowles. Shanica is quickly building a loyal following being an accomplished actress as well as a singer/guitarist. She has a recurring role as "Amber Addison" on Disney's #1 hit show "Hannah Montana", MTV's "Super Sweet 16" and a number of other projects. With a voice comparing to a young Jewel, Norah Jones or Sarah McGloklin, Shanica is in a clear lane of her own as an African American Pop-Rock artist. She has won over audiences everywhere from The House of Blues and Universal City Walk to "It's Showtime at the Apollo," and "Ed McMahon's Next Big Star Show." I've included links to 3 of her records and you can also see more at her website ShanicaKnowles.com. We definitely look forward to working with you. Thank you for your time.

Somebody seems to be in need of the waaaahmbulance right now. And yeah, you would know if you won when you got an email ok? Whats the use of pointing out such and such person won? Then youll be even more upset seeing it was some random person who you would feel didnt ''deserve'' to win because you do, right? Would you religiously check the post to see if your name got announced? And as pointed out, if a few thousand people mail an entry, is it worth the effort to say to everyone ''hey sorry, you lost''. Maybe next time you should beg more?

Lets think about that, could posting the winner on the blog increase the amount of views that blog will get because people would want to log back in and check to see if they or someone they knew won. No, no thats a stupid idea, trying to get people to come back to your blog religiously is a stupid idea, what could I have been thinking. And I don't know how whiny you are when it comes to not winning something or how "deserving" you feel you are over everyone else, I could careless, I just think it'd be nice to know. Another thought, a lot of other sites I've seen where they post the winners name and the simple "congratulations your the winner" they ended up getting a whole bunch of traffic and posts from the person who won saying thanks and posting their review while all their friend say things like "Jealous, lucky, i hate you", and then go on to check out the rest of the blog and enter more of their contests. Whatever, just my thoughts.

TheScenestar air mails me handwritten results of each contest I enter. Excellent penmanship.

I like using fancy stationary and ink dipped feathers as pens for your results.

how hard is it to edit your own blog and say the winner is blah blah blah? Or just do a quick grouping of all the entries and do a reply all email blast, you could even put a direct link to you next contest in the blast. Just a thought.

I figured people would get the idea they didn't win because the deadline for entering has passed and they haven't heard anything. We've done e-mail blasts in the past but it either gets labeled on people's inbox as spam or gotten replies back saying not to or that they're mad for rubbing salt on the wound of not winning. Also not everyone likes every band we do a contest for so that doesn't always work. I know for 99.9% of contests I enter, I don't get a response saying "Sorry, you didn't win". Sorry you didn't win for what you entered for either way. That contest had TONS of entries so you're one of hundreds of dissapointed entrants with only one pair to hand out. Sorry I lost your vote for the "Best Of". Glad you voted either way! #ROCKTHEVOTE

Maybe you should be a social media strategist for a fortune 500 company. Or start your own music website and implement your key new ''revolutionary features'' and tell me how it works out.

How long did it take you to type this post?

Winner has been contacted and sent me their address already. Now we await photographic proof.

And there was still 25 posts after talking about the contest and the winner being happy.

See what a little public announcement can do and the resulting feed back it can get. That's all Im saying. Not that hard. I know that when I enter a contest I can end up losing, it's part of being 1 in a 1000+ going for a limited prize (same idea as trying to be the first one into a concert to get a poster or front row) it's part of life. Hell you could even up load a pic suprefan dancing around like the naked wizard to Rebecca Black's Friday while molesting a inflateable sheep and a giant sign in the back that say's "sorry losers someone else got it" and that would be fine.

This is what people usually will send back the times we used to send "Sorry you're not a winner" e-mails.

That was on a message board, not a website. It's different. Hundreds of contests that we've done after 4-5 years and you're pretty much one of two people to want us to do this. If we do a contest where people have to comment on the posting in order to qualify to win, we will do that. If not, it's not really necessary. :yyablo

Also if you used this pic, you wouldn't need us to tell you if you won or not. You would already know....

Incubus needs to learn that when you announce your first real album and tour in 5 years there needs to be more then one date announced and NOT at the little sb bowl. Over 800 tickets on stubhub before they went on sale, and more then 200 of them being GA pit. Ouch. And I even tried the two presales.

O, and I'm IP banned from TM. Awesome.

If it hadn't been eaten up by scalpers (who have only 20-25% of the venue, mind you -- not quite "eaten up"), it would have been eaten up by fans. What's the difference? If you're too slow on the trigger, you wouldn't have got a ticket either way.

The frustration surrounding professional scalpers relates to how many tickets are sold to them before they are made available to the general public.

Let me reiterate, promoters often sell batches of tickets to professional scalpers BEFORE they go on sale to the general public.

Is this illegal or ridiculously expensive? Why wouldn't people who go to a lot of concerts and just want good seats get the same software and stick it to the scalpers

Both. Barrys Tickets, which was one of the biggest ticket brokers in this city was taken to court and all that because it was discovered that the company was using that software to get tickets. This was years ago. Despite nobody saying they use that software, its used. Also, that type of program requires a nice high end computer to be able to run it. Do you think everyone here has a pc or mac that cost $3,000? theres a lot of other things when it comes to the after market and how those companies get all the good seats, but we could be here for days on end discussing. I am sure Rats! will chime in and say that ''its not what it seems''. Well, who would paint the picture to make the ticket brokers look ''innocent''?

Also, there was that whole ticketing scam a few years ago with Bruce Springsteen playing shows in new york, and all the good seats got snagged up by 4 people. They were caught though, and they used the same kind of software to do it.
