it doesn't really matter. he won't play any of it.

really, without knowing who his band is for the show... there isn't really any way to prepare for it.... that ends up being very determinative of the kind of set he'll do.

however, the albums bryan suggested are good ones. I also like Staring At The Cellophane.

It's mildly shoegazey indie rock. i'm honestly surprised at the buzz about them...the album is solid, but not striking a lot of chords with me.

I have "Black Crown Ceremony I: Diamond Terrifier" playing right now and I noticed the Zs date in your sig, which I totally forgot was happening, and I'm wondering what the fuck this material is going to be like live.

I really ought to go to that, are they selling tickets in advance or just at the door?

TallGuyCM

It's the Smell, almost always $5 at the door.

Drinkey McDrinkerstein

It's the Smell, almost always $5 at the door.

That's what i thought, but I know they sometimes sell tickets in advance...and then i realized the only reason i'm aware of this band if Jared, and beyond the few of us on here that like and listen to the album, it's not exactly very big.

Seeing this makes it hard to imagine them being in Indio next April but just as well I suppose.

GeezrRckr
11-09-2010, 03:37 PM
funny, i thought the opposite. them being Swedish means they have to get a work visa and this is their first North American tour ever, so *i* thought they might be a good fit to play Coachella. however, i know why one might think not. has GV looked the other way on vicinity gigs in the past?

obzen
11-09-2010, 03:41 PM
I dunno, unless there are more North American dates slated I just don't see them hanging out in the states for two months just to play a music festival.

GeezrRckr
11-09-2010, 03:47 PM
well, they could likely be booked at 3-4 festivals in North America for 2011 with the success of Clinging. and, since their work visa will be for a year, they could (potentially) do some touring down south and then come back up here and finish the year off with summer fests and more club dates.

we shall see.

For whatever reason, I didn't associate Robyn so much with gays as much as I did with hipster-types.

I've seen them five or six times and they never disappoint. They distill elements from every strand of fried spaced out psychedelic music from the past half century or so into one huge blown out brain damaged beast. They're also really hilarious on stage, even though they speak minimal English.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart were excellent tonight. They can finally sing in tune while performing, so that was nice. The new songs sounded great live. Lots of energy. Super dorky, but they really had it going.

Weekend were loud as shit and pretty dreamy. They would do some extended intro shit that didn't necessarily work, and they took quite a bit of time between songs (which got kinda old), but otherwise they were pretty good. Definitely promising.

There are so many from the various versions of the band. My introductions were La Novia and Live in Japan, and I thought those worked pretty well as introductions into their fucking insane world.

Me too, but I highly doubt it. The Black Keys will get a full 1 hour and 15 minute set at hootenanny, 94.9fm is good about giving bands almost full sets. 1 and 15 minutes is about 10 minutes short of a full set.

Coachella i'm sure, they will be a subheadliner, so they'll get a full hour i'm sure. I'm definitely going to the SD show, Almost Acoustic depends on the full bill, and where the Black Keys sit on the lineup. If they're in the top 3 of the lineup then they should get 45 minutes, which is worth the drive, and price of the ticket(assuming the rest of the lineup is good).

Black Keys are sub-headliner status now? I love them very much, but that seems like a bit of a stretch. I suppose it depends on who is above/below them.

yeah i'm going to try. do ucsd students have any advantage in getting tickets ?

I wish kroq would have their almost acoustic line up out by nov 16th cause I might prefer that show over the hootenany. If I get tickets for hootenany though it will probably be easy to sell them in the case AAC is that much better so I guess it won't matter.

No students don't have any advantages, if you are signed up for the 94.9fm newsletter, they usually do a presale for members. Sign up now if you haven't. The difference, is you'll get a full set with the SD show, at AAC you'll get 45 minutes tops. If you did decide to sell, you would have no problem selling. there was so many fucking want ads last year on craigslist. I wound up with an extra last year, and I got over 30 emails I remember.

Also, yes I believe Black Keys at this point are subheadliners, I would be shocked if they didn't get billed as a subheadliner. They already had a fucking massive crowd in 09, and they played at a time when there was 3 buzz/big bands playing at the same time. their popularity has sky rocketed this summer. They have sold out every show on tour this year.

they'll sell tickets at the box office, but I don't know that I would take a chance with this one. There are still plenty of disgruntled Black Keys fans because they missed the SOMA show in September in SD. That is not even mentioning The Temper Trap, and Against me(they both sold out their last couple shows in SD in venues like SOMA, Belly Up, and HOB). I'm not going to wait, I'll pay the 10 dollar service fees for this one so I can have peace of mind about it selling out before I buy my ticket.

It's about half the size for a concert. No more then 4-5000 i'm guessing. Someone else might have a better idea though, because i'm not entirely sure. Yes, this will sell out within a week is my guess, Indy Jam 09 sold out in less than a week(3,000 capacity is what I remember hearing at the show).

This won't sell out faster than 09 Indy Jam. Yeah Yeah Yeahs and BK on the beach for the first time at a 2700 cap. venue caused that quick of a sell out. this will go fast, but no where near AS fast.

yeah 2700 cap for a concert sounds right at that venue. I'm sure it's 5000 for a basketball game with all the seats they take out. Also the venue did not cause the sell out in 09, it was The Black Keys and YYY's. I mean come on think about it, 30 bucks for BOTH of those bands, not to mention Metric. SOMA also sold out within a month of going on sale(people on this board will back that up as well, seeing how so many people attended the September show). I never understood why a 2nd night didn't get added once the first one sold out in June. The show was sold out for damn near 3 months in advance.

Nosaj Thing and Toro y Moi double billing last night was so good! Their full visual shows are amazing. I prefer NT > Fly Lo in a live setting, it's just more accessible and fun. Crowd was hyped and place was completely soldout, I actually never seen El Rey security so lax, they let everyone stand/dance all in the walkways. I also haven't heard depth of sound like that since Roger Waters at coachella and the visuals were more simple but on par w/ shadows shadowshpere. Audio/Visual evidence on the ol' youtube channel if you wanted to check it.

Shearwater is also playing in Chicago this week while I am there. Should I see them? I literally have never heard a song by them....

i saw them earlier this year and was very impressed. but then again, their latest album is a favorite of mine. check out their stuff and, if you find it even remotely interesting, go see them. they're superb live. my $.02

Jeff, absolutely don't miss Shearwater. They're incredible both live and on record.

Saw them at Matador 21. Loved them. i would like to third the recommendations.

in no capacity is this an inappropriate pairing.

Are you serious? Do you really think Linkin Park and The Prodigy has a big fan overlap? Most of the people who go for The Prodigy probably hate Linkin Park, and most people going for Linkin Park, besides not knowing who they are, would probably hate The Prodigy. This is an incredibly stupid pairing.

I feel like you have no concept of what the masses like or how commercial radio works. The prodigy is also not nearly as under the radar as people on this board seem to think they are. Their older material still gets very steady rotation on the radio here in L.A. right alongside Linkin Park.

Also, LP's new album has a lot of EDM-influenced stuff on it. It's a fantastic chance for The Prodigy to appeal to people who haven't heard their stuff beyond the Fat Of The Land singles that have managed to survive in hit radio limbo all these years

I actually kind of think it makes sense. I totally see Linkin Park fans eating up Prodigy's live show. It's a good way for Prodigy to play in front of big crowds in the US who might not have heard of their music, but will most likely come away impressed. Then, when they come back to the US they can do a proper tour. Only problem is it will be half full of douchey LP fans. I don't think they are trying to cater to the fanbase they already have (it's small in America anyways), they are trying to branch out and gain new fans.

I for one think it will work, but what do I know. I'm also not a fan of either band.
