*tee hee, bug, tee hee* You so funny.

Also:

Gout (also called metabolic arthritis) is a disease due to a congenital disorder of uric acid metabolism. In this condition, monosodium urate or uric acid crystals are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints, tendons and surrounding tissues due to elevated concentrations of uric acid in the blood stream. This provokes an inflammatory reaction of these tissues.

"The high levels of uric acid in the blood are caused by protein rich foods. Alcohol intake often causes acute attacks of gout."

So what is it? Too much protein or too much beer?

I had a friend who ran a pub who had gout . His was not protein related.

Is gout more painful than say, a toothache? I woke up with one this morning. Maybe it's a sympathy thing, I don't know.

Yablonowitz, that's not too terrifying to look at but I hope that you get some quality horizontal time over the holiday to rest those dogs.

I swear to god, I'm not much of a protein eater and definitely not a drinker. It's hereditary. It just is. My dad had it in his 30's too.

I am. I know what medication to take for the gout. I have me some Indocin, the #1 pain relief drug for gout. I just choose not to take it because I fight through the pain. I may bitch about it, but I fight through it.

No, I have a high uric acid content in my blood. When it gets to joints where the body temperature is lower and there isn't as much circulation (ie the big toe joint, the heel, etc), then the uric acid distills into crystals in the articular cartilage of joints. I've been told that the pain isn't so much the crystals as my body's immune response...attacking the crystals as a foreign object.

Did anyone else see that "Biggest-Loser" style show where there was the dude who was on the Atkins diet? He was totally blowing everyone away and the pounds were just melting off...

Then he got the gout. Oops. That pretty much did it for him. I laughed forever.

My old best friend Sprak had gout when he was 14. More importantly, if I inherit that shit from my father I'm going to cut my feet off. That shit looks horrible.

My old best friend Sprak...

Your old best friend's name was Sprak? Is your real name perhaps not Randy but Gort?

Do the words Klatuu, Barata, Nikto mean anything to you?

RotationSlimWang

His last name was Spracklen. Somehow the shortened nickname minus the C fit him better than any other vocal sound could.

And yes, they do.

There's a Hed PE lyric that goes "fucking you up like sprak." We heard this after he'd already had the nickname for quite a while (we were like 15, we listened to hed PE, sue me), so we were all like "why the fuck are you in a hed PE song?" Later on the singer was doing an online interview and one of us asked him, and he explained that "sprack" is when you smoke speed and crack together.

Again, could not be a more accurate description of that kid.

I work on Gout drugs right now - hopefully FDA ok's everything in a few months - you should be good to go. Indications are it lowers SUA levels below 6. Which as you might know is the magic number whether you have an attack or not. The medication takes about 4-6 weeks but should stop your attacks.

I'll let you know more when it gets approved (kinda already has)

WHAT ARE YOUR GOUT RISK FACTORS?

* Genetic factors. Approximately one in four people with gout have a family history of the disease. In some families, the enzyme that helps the body break down purines is missing.
* Consuming a steady diet of foods that are high in purines. (Foods that are high in purines break down in the body to uric acid.) Purine-rich foods include organ meats, herring, mackerel and trout (beans and peas also contain purines; however, at lower levels).
* Eating to excess. Habitual heavy eaters often develop gout because large quantities of food increase the amount of uric acid produced by the body.
* Taking certain medications. Drugs that reduce the body's ability to remove uric acid, such as diuretics (water pills), salicylates (ASA, Aspirin®), cyclosporine (Neoral®) and levodopa (Prolopa®) contribute towards the development of gout. Since the vitamin B3 (niacin) raises uric acid levels, it may also contribute toward the condition when used in excess.
* Having certain degenerative conditions that give rise to excessive breakdown of cells. This can increase serum purine levels which in turn increase the amount of uric acid in the body.

I just remember when Bobby had gout on King of the Hill. He ate too much organ meat.
