I remember reading in Wired a while back that there was a nifty little device that was a foot pedal you could throw under your desk and hook up to automatically minimize whatever PC game (or any other app I'd imagine as well) and bring up an Excel spreadsheet or whatever. That'd be even slicker.

haha. Yes! I'm in Canada. I play hockey sometimes. But the girl who worked at Megatunes down the street did join broken social scene.

ya, we restrict a lot here ... any streaming media, downloads, chat boards or chat rooms, porn of course, romance and dating (craigslist), any email or im's, gambling, hacking, hate, sports, shopping, blogs, and the list is lots larger then that .. poor people that cant surf :) ... what i hate about my job is when someone wants me to run a report on someone, just to make sure they are not goofing around ... they can get fired for that and it sucks i have to be the bad guy so to speak ... oh well ... canx**

Yes, I've wondered about that. Im on the board pretty much all day. When Im not using it, its minimized. It will probably lead to my demise. BUT, if they were smart and deleted cookies and reset internet and all that fun stuff... you can still see right?
wheres my cache?! wheres my caaaaache!!!!

Yeah I clear all of my internet options at the end of every work day, I know it really doesn't make a difference, I just do it for piece of mind on my drive back home.

God I wish there was a way I could just wipe out all internet articles from my comp at work...Whatever, I work for one of those companies that doesn't really run reports on an employee unless they have reason to, the Coachella board is definitely not reason enough. I would get written up and have my privileges revoked before getting fired.

The likelihood of your company monitoring or storing your internet history and cache is entirely slim if you already have access to this website. I manage about a hundred companies, and at best, we've only seen concerns about people eating up bandwidth with torrents or P2P clients. If they're not running some third party web surf guard program, you're fine.

yea, that is what we do here ... our app tells everywhere you go, for how long, even if you are blocked, it counts against you .... well take that back, we only care if you are on a site for 1 minute or more lol ... about the only thing it doesnt do, when we go to the page on a site people go to, if you need to put in a password, it cant do that ... we have other ways of doing that though ... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr canx**

In observance of Thanksgiving and to allow you to get a head start on the holiday, the office will officially close at 2:00 p.m. today. With your supervisor's approval, you may leave at that time.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Tnx Dani, does that work across state lines? Sort of like the man act ….. And btw, I know my job sounds creepy to some, but I look at it this way …. There is only one person that got fired because of me, and that is because he called me and threatened he would “hurt me” if I ran his report, which I promptly did ….. and I “saved” maybe 10 people from being fired because I warned them and they curtailed what they were doing before their boss caught them … we only keep the database for 45 days then it goes off to the ozone …. I would work at most jobs but some I never could … I could never be a cop .. They have their place, but it would make me feel bad to bust someone …. There was this other job I thought about when I first moved here (the last time) … it paid really good, straight salary with no OT … BUT … it was in a meat packing plant .. one reason, I could never kill any animals (and yes I eat meat) so I would never take the job … but the really weird part of the job, everyone got 2 weeks vacation, the first two weeks of the year … after that you worked EVERY day for the rest of the year …. Mon-Fri., Saturday and Sunday and every holiday … can you imagine waking up every morning for almost a year in a row, and have to go to work …. No way … canx**

I got a question for you Ron...

About two to three times a year I get an email sent out by my director who heads about 4 different departments. The email is always along the lines of "I got the fiscal internet usage reports from the I.T. Department today for review I hope none of you are on this list." I surf the internet probably 7 out of 8 hours a day during my shift and probably visit more web sites in one day than an entire department combined in months. I have been here for 3 years and have not been approached once, nor has anybody else I know. Is this all a scare tactic or is my usage falling under the radar?

It would be a total guess on my part what your business has …. What you can think about though is: do you ever go to a site and get some “blocked message” saying it is against business policy to surf that site … porn is the usual place almost every business blocks … so if you go there real quick and don’t get blocked, that would make me question if you have an app for surf …. I would also have a question if you could go to a site, like cnet, and try and download something …. That can also be blocked by a firewall so that is iffy …. Some places like mine, have a select few, maybe 6 out of the 2k here, that are not monitored for whatever reason … the sheriff’s department here, one division anyway, their whole job is to surf like myspace all day and see if they can catch bad guys … and lastly, it could be like those fake ADT signs you put in the front of your house, that says you have a security system, but you really don’t … security by ignorance …. What I would do if you are worried at all, is ask your IT guy and just play dumb .. say some friends online are asking what is the name of the surf application you have, because they are thinking of buying one …. If you draw a blank, then again, I would question that … sorry I cant be more help … canx**

Yes actually I have received this message a handful of times, One of them was like an anti-bush website that was forwarded to me via email and I clicked the link by accident and the other was an ad on nme.com that apprently had a girl in a bikini in it. Those are the only ones I can remember.

Reppin' the 403.

I'm at work right now... waiting for Google video to buffer a bit.
My last performance review, my boss encouraged me to do this.

my company has different security levels. A few months ago, they decided to put everyone on a Use Quota level. Meaning, almost every site was blocked (anything having to do with travel, entertainment, etc) but you could use one hour of quota time if you wanted to view those sites. That lasted in my department for about a week. I finally threw a tantrum about it and my boss got everyone on her team taken off that security level. Now I have access to just about anything (except sex, porn, youtube, and myspace).

As long as you don't surf for pr0n and don't have mp3's on your system, you are on your own & ok. We are all admins for our own pc's in my group meaning we patch 'em, bring 'em in for repair if needed etc.
