there are some loopholes but I think Peaches played UCLA around Coachella I'm sure Bmack can explain it better than i can though.

There are clauses to this. They are allowed to do campus shows as long as the show is free and restricted to the student body. In the contract we have to stipulate that the band will have no part in the advertisement of the show, that the show will not be advertised outside the confines of the campus, and that only students will be allowed into the show, with ID checks to verify their status. In exchange, they usually play for less than they would otherwise.

Andrew, we will have to ask J. about Coachella. I'll also talk to A Place to Bury Strangers. We're working on booking them. I'll shoot an email Voxtrot's way as well, since we're in conversations with them right now.

i grew up seeing death cab at various small venues in seattle. I'm not big into their music, but they have matured into a band that plays really well together.

And Broken Social Scene in 2004.

Too bad I didn't know who they were at the time. Emily Haines performed with them. Sigh. Well, it was Friday at noon and we were supposed to be on the way to Coachella by then, anyway. We ended up leaving later, naturally.

They tried to get Death Cab to play the back to school concert in 2005, I'm told, but decided it was too expensive and booked...I dunno, I think it was Thrice and either Xzibit or Common.

I'm told Ladytron and CSS played for pennies last year since those were "promotional performances"

I'm guessing this will be in Ackerman Grand Ballroom or the Tennis Center if ID checks are part of the deal.

I would say that My Bloody Valentine are ALMOST confirmed, they keep having hints dropped here and there and are very heavily rumored.

The Verve IMO is just pure speculation.

On a side note, I know you guys aren't too crazy about them but someone from Pearl Jam said recently in an interview that they only have one show confirmed so far for 2008, which leads me to believe that it will be Coachella or Bonnaroo, preferably the latter. Not that I don't like them, I just think they fit Bonnaroo better. Then again, could just be some show at The Gorge or something, but it's a possibility

I really wouldn't object to Pearl Jam at Coach 08, particularly if it bumped Green Day or No Doubt out of their spots (as daftradioheadpunk had alluded to). I'm not the biggest Pearl Jam fan in the world by any means, but I've heard nothing but glowing reviews of their live show.

HOWEVER...

I would be a little bit disappointed to see Coach picking up Lolla's headliner from last year. I mean with RHCP it's different, they headline festivals practically every fucking year and they're always just a huge draw, so I can dig it even though I really don't care to see them, plus they were Coach's first. But it feels to me like Coach has gotten to the point where they should always be setting precedents with their headliners by this point. It might be kinda an impossible onus to be putting on Goldenvoice cause with a limited number of bands and so many festivals now that Coach has shown it can be done and done well in the US... I just kinda want Coach to always be shoving their dicks in the face of every other festival around.

Pearl Jam is huge though and regardless of whether or not Lolla had them last year is still a good "get" especially if its their only show in 2008. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like Pearl Jam at all.

I'd be stoked to see PJ at Coach; As much if not more than if they scored Radiohead.

There are only so many bands that GV can reunite/reincarnate/rehab. Srsly. Outside of The Smiths, they've pretty much brought everyone in that they can. U2 don't do festivals and I've seen them 3x already. I'd like to see The Who / REM at Coach but I'm not sure GV would go for them.

Death Cab would be cool. id see them if no one else i perfer is playing. Saw them at Sasquatch 06 and they put on a really good set. Gotta love the Calgary shoutout in that song of theirs, I Will Follow You Into The Dark. I hope Pearl Jam dont do Coachella. Saw them at Lollapalooza and it was fuckin excellent, but that was enough for me. I want Coachella to be some new things that I havent seen. Verve, REM, Radiohead, Prodigy would make me the happiest guy ever.

So...lets start the list:

DCFC (heard from management)
MBV (a bunch, but here is the main (http://www.thedailyswarm.com/swarm/believe-it-or-not-my-bloody-valentine-reuniting-for-coachella-2008/) one)
Portishead (Daily Swarm (http://www.thedailyswarm.com/swarm/believe-it-or-not-my-bloody-valentine-reuniting-for-coachella-2008/), Spin (http://www.spin.com/features/news/2007/10/071012_radiohead_muse/))
VHS or BETA (Scenester (http://thescenestar.typepad.com/ss/2007/10/vhs-or-beta-men.html))
Austin TV (link (http://cucharasonica.com/2007/10/03/austin-tv-al-coachella-2008/))

as long as radiohead does a proper seattle date somewhere else as well.

and as long as they get a full set (which they are doing for the Cure right? so it shouldn't be a stretch).

I think No Doubt would work on Saturday night. Same slot as the Chili Peppers last year and it would offend me a lot less than the peppers did.

I'm just in a bitchy mood because yesterday we found out that MBV is actually starting to look unlikely and today we find out no Radiohead and the Dcfc news isn't really good news considering its very possible they could be that band that gets third billing that has us scratching our heads because we didn't think they would be that high on the poster. Right... Granted, let's look at DCfC vis a vis the other 3:

DCfC: Large west coast following, O.C. name dropping, MTV/VH1 exposure, Plans peaked at #4 on the Billboard charts, and it is a certified gold record.

versus

The Decemberists: Colbert Show exposure, Crane Wife was voted the top album by NPR in 06', and... not much else. Definitely not 3rd billed...

Arctic Monkeys: Really fucking over in England, Favourite Worst Nightmare sold 44,000 copies in it's first week here, 220,000 in England. Would make more sense UK-wise...

Bloc Party: Fucking hate Bloc Party. End of story.

So, as you see, it makes more sense, logic-wise, for DCfC to be billed 3rd or 4th from above. Plus, they're in the 400K bracket in the festival contest, so it makes sense that way as well.

R.E.M. would be epic. The rest would be terrible.

Actually, Green Day put on a rather good show when I saw them years ago. But it's one of those bands you kinda outgrow during the end of puberty. Saw No Dout when "Just a Girl" was breaking into local airwaves and they were awful. Gwen couldn't sing and kept trying to get the crowd to singalong to songs they didn't know.

Because PF, the only person here who really knows what she's talking about with regard to who is/is not playing, said so.

Yeah, if Dani says so, it has to be true, which is most unfortunate. No way would she lie to us like that, and the powers that be wouldn't want a negative lie like that going around. The positive ones are damaging enough.

well, it's about 18 hours straight from LA to Seattle, tack on an extra hour or two to get the George.

I would say between 18-20 hours if you don't hit traffic anywhere.

I've made most of that stretch a couple times (I drive everytime to Coachella), it can be fun, but it's hard after the festival.

I say GV only needs two headliners if they make one of the days "Reunion Day" so to speak. Throw MBV, Portishead, and the Verve (or whomever else would constitute a major 2nd tier reunion) at the top of the lineup, and I think that could replace the need to go to the well for a major headliner that would piss off many of the devotees (aka: Green Day).

Word. People need to get over Basement Jaxx already. Their set at Detour was...well, let's just say I left the front and decided my time would be better spent waiting in line to use the portapotty. "Where's Your Head At" was cool, though.

That'd be a huge betrayal if Radiohead played one of those mega-corporate festivals instead. But ACL is in September and that's when they traditionally tour the west coast, so maybe.

I think the problem is that Radiohead always insists on playing for Europe first. And again at the end of the tour. And playing Coachella would mean cutting those American pigs a break for once in their miserable lives.

The Smiths = Good

Morrissey (solo) = Horrid

Fuck, I think I just agreed with ThomThom, especially after the Embarcadero show... *goes back to ignoring him*

Seriously, though, Tom, Morrissey only has the tone of self-pity? If you can't catch the sarcasm evident in Morrissey's Smiths lyrics, then it's your loss... But Green Day? That's fucking egregious...

I think some of you are blowing this way out of proportion. The fact is, Radiohead's going to be doing a solo tour and hit up the States anyway, as well as get the kind of set length that Coachella parameters don't allow (again, why Radiohead will play Bonnaroo this year). When Portishead and MBV get fully taken off the rumor block... then that's cause for worry...

The Smiths got me through high school without killing myself. ... Morrissey saved my life because I felt like he was going through the same thing I was, being shy and miserable and lonely...That is why the Smiths were so important to me.

Sounds like revisionist history to me, PT.

A little late I know...

I can totally see Sasquatch pulling a Coachella 2004 ripoff and having The Cure (already confirmed) headlining one day and Radiohead headlining the other.

But I will pretty much shit a chicken if that happens. I am going to Sasquatch definately this year. I returned my tickets to the Cure in Vancouver. So no matter who else is at Sasquatch this year, I am going.
But holy shit... if it is Radiohead...

Pearl Jam is already playing Bonnaroo, and I doubt they will book two big "alternative" headliners because that would mean either no jam headliner or no "classic" headliner.

Woh... where is it confirmed Pearl Jam are playing Bonnaroo. I still think its possible they play coachella.

And for the record, I agree with J-$$$.

Go a few posts back and it says something about Pearl Jam being confirmed for one show next year, and logic dictates Bonnaroo over Coachella, especially given the Lollapalooza show...

Also, agree with him on what?

Bowie would be cool, but I would much prefer Radiohead, The Smiths, and Portishead to Bowie. I've seen Bowie live 3 times (NIN opened). I've seen The Smiths not at all, Portishead once, and Radiohead, well, I can't get enough of Radiohead.
