so i just learned that google publish the top 15 queries in each country each month. it's fascinating to see what people are searching for. for instance:

afghanistan #1: afghanistan.
australia #9: chernobyl.
canada #6: sheep.
canada #7: pitchfork.
finland #14: lara croft.

etc. if you're looking to kill a bit of time, take a look!

link (http://www.google.com/press/intl-zeitgeist.html).

It's not a list of the most popular queries for each country. That would be boring because it would probably just be porn, etc for every country. It's sometimes the "top gaining queries." (The searches that have gained the most popularity with respect to the previous month).

Maybe this was obvious to everyone else and goes without saying. I was initially confused.

By which I mean, she is a young actress and singer known for her role in High School Musical who got some publicity last year for naked pics posted on the internets.

All the tween to early teen girls I know all really like her. Which granted is a fairly small sample size.

I went to the movie theater over the weekend to see The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and there was a line which snaked all the way through the lobby and out nearly to the street, for the Hannah Montana movie. Those are some damn dedicated moms.

I was buying candy at the Fuzziwig's store next to the IMAX movie theatre, and the cashier asked me if I'd "seen the movie yet." I had no idea what he was talking about until he mentioned that dreaded name. Luckily, the only HM thing my kids have is the HM doll because it was a present at Xmas. Damn relatives trying to thwart my evil plan to keep teenybopper music out of our lives!

edit: I forgot to mention the doll has a button below her boobs that plays music. w00t w00t.

I actually don't think that Hannah Montana is that bad, in the sense that she seems (from the little I know) to provide a good role model and alternative to all the Britney Spears-type figures that tween and teen girls are exposed to via the media.

Although I'm a little disturbed that some cashier pegged you as the Hannah Montana fan type, Amy.

I had my kids with me that trip, so the cashier was referring to me and my little girls.
