Oh it really isn't that bad, The band has stated time and time again that they hate questions about their music. In their mind the music speaks for it self and I think with the 1st 2 questions they just shut down after this. Also, I have seen heard others just as bad....still loved my Icelandic band....

See? Infamous for it....

Sigur Rós's reputation, it's fair to say, is as artsy, aloof, distant and awkward. The four-piece make celestial music that routinely solicits purple prose wondering if this is the very sound of God moving his furniture and crying as he squashes his thumb and blah blah. They're infamous for being monosyllabically unforthcoming in interviews. One album was titled ( ), aka Brackets; its eight songs were nameless.

Dude, I know all that. But if that's the case, then they should tell their PR people to stop putting them forward for radio interviews.

The Meg Ryan one - is far more awkward, esp. cuz that film is a piece of shit.

Word...however, I have also heard great interviews as well with them...and from what I know that shut down if people open interviews with questions like this person did...

that really was an abysmal interview. and knowing that they don't like to talk about their music doesn't make it any better of an interview. besides I heard them talk about their music on kcrw, they didn't have a problem with it there. they gave a crappy interview, simple as that.

i remember kevin and bean from kroq interviewing a band back in the mid 90's and it was so horrid that they still bring it up from time to time. the band had a female lead singer, band name started with a "c", i believe. dammit, this is gonna bother me until i figure it out...

...oh yeah, the cardigans.

Or, at least, do something to ensure they'ren't gonna get horrible questions from a bad interviewer.

Then again maybe this is the image Sigur Ros wants out there.

I mean if I were NPR I wouldn't want to show that interview because their interviewer comes off as an idiot that can't do his job.

So maybe they're playing along with Sigur Ros, playing along with their "reputation." I'mn't saying it's entirely fabricated but maybe needlessly embraced and blown out of proportion by the band, the interviewer, interview reviewer and the public.

there's not much an interviewer can do when they are giving one word responses.

shakermaker113
10-15-2007, 12:56 PM
they're a band. wtf do they expect? "hey would you like to come in so we can interview about conflict in the middle east? or how about you share some of your opinions on shakespeare?" whatever.

I thought the interviewer was pretty good, in the sense that he didn't get frustrated or rude or upset about it. I think I would have just given up and ran away. But I guess that's why he gets paid to do what he does.

He says like 4 words and two of them are bleeped.

A lot of people on the NPR site said that the interviewer did a bad job, which I totally disagree on.. They said there was no flow, but they didn't really elaborate on their answers.

i still like when their first cd came out, some of my friends said "i dont understand the lyrics, must be icelandic" and i liked the untitled cd with the little insert where you could write your own lyrics and stuff the jacket usually has ... cute once anyway ... canx**

Asking a band to describe its creative process is not stupid. Responding with blank stares is.

Asking a band to describe its creative process is not stupid. Responding with blank stares is.

You see if the request was "How would you describe your creative process?" instead of "So do you guys, like, do this and then this, or is it more like a little bit of this followed by that until this and that have those and these in them?" things might have worked out better.

I say "might" because I don't doubt that the band members were just being dicks.

This is what makes them so great! Their attitude toward music is literally "blah blah blah fucking bullshit whatever" and they create some of the most aesthetically beautiful sounds in the world. I think I remember reading somewhere that they performed in Iceland before under the name "I Hate Music" or something similar. It's refreshing and intriguing to have such a perversely talented band be so nonchalant about the greatness of their sound.

Delta, I never knew that you sell steamers when Arcade Fire aren't touring.

I blame the interviewer. He asked "yes and no" questions about their methods, when it should have been "yes and no" questions about their feelings.
