I think it kind of is, and its so smart do to it this way. Everyone is going to buy the box set as it is. And odds are, they wont make the extra disc available for a while if they decide to do so. I think its a ncie treat to make sure you have somethign new to listen to in a couple of months.

So... this album wont be available in stores?

As of right now, no. I think it will but not for like 6 months easy. Whats the point when they control it all and make all the $$ themselves? And everyone will be able to get it anyway, if you pay a penny its yours. I wouldve paid like full price if I just got the download. Just dont worry and get the download for now, I am sure everyone who does get it that way will buy the real thing whenever it is released.

Looks to me like they still haven't found a label they like... I'm all for no label, means we get an album in a week and 3 days!

And the order stuff went fine for me, I printed out my order confirmation on glossy paper and stuck it up on my wall. A bit obsessed yes, but jesus it's been almost five years since HTTT.

It's gonna be another five years before atease recovers, rofl.

So how are they planning on doing the downloads? Their servers can't even handle the ticket pre-sales, after all.

Wow, everything's on there. Gotta wait until December for Go Slowly and Down Is The New Up...aaaaah! Going to be fun!

Despite being able to get this legally for a cent, at least 100 million people will download it on their favorite torrent site.

Where.
The fuck.
Is Spooks.

I'd normally answer that by saying it'll come out on a single in the future, but with this new approach, all bets are off... possibilities include delivery of a third disc by stork including Spook... or maybe they'll launch the only studio recording of it into space, where it will multiply do to unusual chemical reactions and fall back into the atmosphere, millions of copies floating all over the world... babbling and ranting about absolutely nothing is a side effect of LP7 having an official title as well as a dream-like release date... I just can't shut up...

I didn't allow myself to think about it fully before I made the decision to buy. My feelings are that I know most of the songs and like them a great deal, and it will be cool to have an expanded edition of the record. Also shipping is included in the price.

Radiohead Countdown Site Exposed As A Hoax
Artist: Radiohead

A spokesperson for Radiohead told NME that the site claiming to be counting down to information about the group’s new album is a hoax.

The site (http://radioheadlp7.com/) was previously showing a countdown that would end tomorrow morning (September 29) at 8am. Recently, after being exposed, the site has exchanged the countdown for a simple message which says “THE MOST GIGANTIC LYING HOAX OF ALL TIME .”

Many fans initially sniffed out the fishiness of the site, suggesting it might actually be a means to trick fans into “giving away passwords”.

Although, as previously reported the group is offering puzzles concerning clues about the new album.

What is clear is that it will be the group’s seventh studio album and is to be released sometime in 2008. The band worked on it for over two years, beginning in early 2005 which makes it the longest duration of time between albums (Hail to the Thief was released in 2003) Radiohead have had since they began their career.

I've actually heard that they're only making the exact amount that are being ordered. Made to order, as they call it, because Thom doesn't want to waste, be good to the environment and all, good for them.

It would for sure be cool if they had a limited number, but I doubt they'd do that because it is the only definite source of income for the band. Who knows what amount people are buying the downloadable album for, y'know?

I will tell you this, in the end even the casual radiohead fans and stuff will pay somethign for this. I think in everyones mind, they could in theory get it for free. But why do that and just give them like 1 pound? Also, if and when the album is relased on its own physically, it will sell a ton of copies. Billboard article

As expected, Radiohead has gone an unusual route for distribution of its seventh studio album, "In Rainbows." The set will be available for digital download from the band's Web site beginning Oct. 10, but with a twist -- fans can name their own price for the purchase. "It's up to you," reads a disclaimer on the checkout screen.

"Hello everyone. Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days," guitarist Jonny Greenwood said in a characteristically nonchalant post on the site. "In Rainbows" will also be sold in a "discbox," which will feature the new album on CD and double-vinyl, as well as a second disc with seven additional songs, photos, artwork and lyrics. The materials will be encased in a hardback book and slipcase.

The discbox will sell for £ 40 and will ship "on or before" Dec. 3, according to the site. As for the new material, much of it was road tested on tour last year, although "Weird Fishes," "Last Flowers" and "Faust Arp" appear to be songs written more recently.

Radiohead exited longtime label home EMI in 2005 and has yet to announce a new deal for distribution of its music beyond the "In Rainbows" package. But according to its publicist, the band will release a physical version of "In Rainbows" in 2008, with details to be announced.

Last week, the band began posting coded messages on its site that seemed to indicate a new album was imminent, concurrent with the launch of the site RadioheadLP7.com, which was quickly revealed to be a hoax.

"In Rainbows" is the follow-up to 2003's "Hail to the Thief," which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200.

Radiohead Album Coming Out as Regular CD Too

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/46028-radiohead-album-coming-out-as-regular-cd-too

Okay people! Take a couple deep breaths, count to 10, switch the caps lock off, clean up the triple espresso you just spit all over the computer screen, and check this: that new Radiohead album, In Rainbows? The one that the world knew practically zilch about 24 hours ago? The one that drops digitally (DRM-free, no less!) in nine days, for a price of your own choosing? The one that's also coming out in a deluxe "Discbox" in December? Well, it's also coming out in good, old fashioned CD format early next year.

No word on when exactly or through which label-- if any label at all-- but that's the news thus far from the band's publicist.

So, let's sort this whole mess out, shall we? You will eventually have three ways to pick up the seventh Radiohead LP, the Nigel Godrich-produced In Rainbows. It all depends how much you want to pay, which goodies you'd like, and how soon you want the tunes. Observe:

1. As a DRM-free mp3 download, beginning October 10 (and available for preorder now), via www.inrainbows.com (interestingly enough, last week's RickRoll, www.radioheadlp7.com, now directs here as well). This version contains the 10 tracks that comprise In Rainbows, and you can pay whatever the hell you want for it. This is basically the band leaking the album and asking you for a donation to access it.

2. As part of a deluxe "Discbox", available for preorder now and shipping in December. In addition to the 10-track In Rainbows on CD, you also get the release on LP and as a digital download, plus an enhanced bonus CD packed with eight more tracks, photos, and artwork (and an LP of the bonus tracks), plus art and lyrics booklets and some nifty looking packaging. This thing costs £40.00/$81.00.

3. As a traditional CD, available in early 2008. This will presumably cost as much as traditional CDs tend to cost.

What Radiohead's doing here is actually pretty cool. Rather than preface their new album's release with the usual three months of press ballyhoo, only to have it leak at some random time before it comes out, they've kept it completely under wraps, then essentially gone and leaked it themselves. What's more, they've turned this into a moral question of sorts, by giving us the freedom to pay actual money for what amounts to an album leak.

Only a band in Radiohead's position could pull a trick like this. Well played, gentlemen.

i cant seem to order the box set. the site is royally fucked right now.

i saw this right before it blew off the radar and I just sat staring at my screen for a couple minutes in disbelief.

to all you wondering where spooks is... why? to be honest I'm kind of glad I'm having trouble ordering it. Looking back I was really skeptical of a lot of the new material (bangers and mash, spooks were down right terrible... DITNU was in need of a insane overhaul)... I should wait until the download before dropping 80 bucks on two copies of the album.

well i lied... my skepticism was short lived. I ordered the box set. I'm still a little nervous about the album living up to expectations, so I've set mine lower.

here is to the wait...

Does anyone think the album will leak? I bet there are odds for betting somewhere on the net for this. It'll be interesting if it can be held under wraps until the day they release it. If so, that's impressive. I did hear that they already began pressing vinyls, I will be amazed if one doesn't disappear and end up leaked.

I think it's brilliant anyway you look at it.To sell Cds now you have to have been on American Idol,or peddle yourself to the old folks (Sorry Grandma!) by covering standards.New ideas are needed, and Radiohead is stepping up.
Also this reminds me of when Stephen King tried a similar thing with a book he was selling online chapter by chapter. It was called "The Plant" and he never finished it.It pissed me off, because I had sunk like 4 bucks into it when he cut it off.

I don't think it's brave. Just smart. Lots of bands have released music on their own, but lots of bands aren't as big as radiohead. Economics all comes down to scale. It's a step in the right direction.

I paid $81, I figure the bitrate will either be 320 kps or a high VBR. It cant be anything sucky.

I think they have the server problem figured out for the download. They could just have batches of people directed to multiple servers with the album to prevent a crash from happening. Also, a timed release of download code/links to ensure that it doesnt go crazy if people are only going to have to wait a little bit longer to get their e mail while somebody else just got it.

no promos or leaks probably (from radiohead PR):

"There will be no advances, promotional copies, digital streams, media sites, etc. of RADIOHEAD's In Rainbows.
Everyone in the world will be getting the music at the same time: Oct. 10. That includes us. We don't have anything to play anyone in the nine days until the record is available. Everyone at nasty has put his or her order in and just to clarify: you are not being asked to pay for a promo (as some have inquired). you can pay nothing or as much or as little as you want.

There will be no promotional copies of the discbox either, as each discbox is being made to order. Sorry."

That's why you "buy" the digital download now for nothing or a nominal fee and then buy the physical CD when it comes out in January. Or, if it is revealed that there won't be a physical CD with the bonus disc then you shell out the £40 for the discbox. You won't get it until December 3rd anyway.*

Ummmm EVERYONE STAND WHEN RADIOHEAD PLAYS. Even the acid trippers stand.

So I am a pussy now? Wow so awesome. Oh I was there too, the last of the 6 shows in cali that I went to. Guess I should be glad you didnt go to Berkeley or San Diego, then you wouldve been surround by lots more pussies since it was entirely GA. Best setlist of the tour was Berkeley night 2 fyi. It was even scientifically proven on atease.

Ask the band.

its cool if its for a couple songs, but literally no one sat down the entire show. they dont play the kind of music you need, or should want to stand up for, therefor you should take your seat. i guess i am glad i went to Greek, even though from the sound of it, it obviously wouldnt make a difference

Are you really this dumb? Truly? It's an honest question.

From the top of my head, Shoreline had Cold Wind [very good, but played EVERYWHERE {besides LA, because everyone knows that AF hates LA (rightfully so)}] Headlights [very good again, but played more than any other EP song [excluding No Cars Go because that's really not an EP anymore] and a typical set besides that as far as I can remember.

Electric Park had Neon Bible into Distortions, which has only been done ONE OTHER TIME EVER [Portland]. Electric Park had Old Flame, which I can never remember hearing live; which Win couldn't even remember when he played live last; which they soundchecked at Berkeley but decided not to play. And it was a GA show. GA shows ALWAYS > seated. Period.

Just because something is slightly more rare than another rare song, doesn't make it better. Radiohead has never played "Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors", but that doesn't make it their best song.

And "Cold Wind" was hardly played everywhere. Did anyone else get it on the first American tour this year besides LA and SF? Chicago had three shows and was denied, and IIRC, New York did too in that 5 night stand way back in the day.

As awesome as Distortions is, it won't change anyone's lives. I bet nobody was sobbing like some kids were during "Cold Wind." Of course, seeing as how you are a soulless monster, I can understand why you cannot grasp the concept of emotional attachment.

You're clearly trolling. No other reason why you would post such gibberish besides a troll job. Just because they didn't play it in Chicago and NYC, that makes it the rarest song on the face of the earth? Unless you WERE AT ELECTRIC PARK, how the fuck can you even conclude which show was better? That is the bottom line.

And I've seen Cold Wind played so many times, I stopped counting. And you probably don't know who it is about or what it is about and neither did those romo emo scenesters who were sobbing about their 14 yr old girlfriends having left them. Go find somewhere else to troll -- won't be effective here. You don't know what you're going on about or have the slightest clue which AF date was the best this time around.

Wow, you really are stupid. And psychotic. The only one trolling here is you, Ebay, as always. And when people talk about these shows being better than others, clearly it's in reference to the setlists, not the countless subjective factors. It's adorable how many people think it's an incredibly novel and brave move on Radiohead's part to self-release music. Only Radiohead could pull it off, with their god-like powers of doing shit people have been doing for decades.

Radiohead are not just self-releasing this album; they're self-releasing it as a grossly overladen boxed set that cost £40.

Wait. That wasn't supposed to come out like that.

They're releasing the album for download from their website! Oh, wait, I've downloaded full albums from other artists' websites such as Tim Fite, Willy Mason (that was the label, I guess) and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

But only Radiohead gives you the opportunity to pay for that download! Though I suppose that'sn't even true. Other artists/labels will sell you digital downloads of albums.

Though what folks like C Dub were getting at, Radiohead is much bigger than the artists mentioned above; they are professional musicians and they (as far as I can tell) make a good amount of money doing that and (here's the kicker) they'ren't going to take that much of a hit releasing things this way.

Also this talk of an ultimate frisbee tournament makes me wish I had a working ACL in my right knee.

Also frisbee golf is awesome. Though I don't like the official discs or the courses and it's not like I follow the tour or anything. But it's fun to take normal beat-up 175 g discs and pick your own targets and throw. That I can still do; I just need to throw everything forehand.

Also the ultimate talk makes me think you folks have either (a) never been in an ultimate frisbee tournament or (b) never been to Coachella. After both I tended/tend to feel wholly beat down and sore. Though at this point I feel like I'm starting to sound like Delta so I'm gonna stop. I really don't mean to be that much of an ass.

I got the same last night, but the site refused my order because 'security reasons' telling that my CC info was mistyped when I had checked many times everything was in order. I called my CC, and they said that the seller had tried to contact me to verify I was the one using the CC, but like they didn't find me my card was blocked. I never got any call though.
