August 1 - 3, 2008. The dates have officially been set, so it looks like Lollapalooza goes on for at least one more year.

I had alot of fun at this years Lolla, but i perfered Coachella. And wow, walking from At&T to Bud Light stage is seriously like 15min, its a huge bitch. I dont think ill be going back, unless the lineup is unreal. I hope Coachella is like Pukkelpop 07...anything with Ed Banger is good with me.

2005 was the best though with Dinosaur Jr.,Pixies, & Billy Idol. Plus there were only 4 stages & they were all on one field which was the baseball diamond field. Plus there were no corporate asshole fascist sponsers! Like AT&T.

They just e-mailed me about limited Earlybird price for 2008 3 day pass - WOW, really way early. It's final, I'm not going back there no matter what.

Earlybird tickets are already sold out. They were $135, so looks like regular tickets will be more expensive.. around $180 maybe? Probably I'll buy mine on craigslist the week of ACL.

Really? I thought the sound bleed was incredibly annoying with so many stages crammed in. And if memory serves, it was sponsored by SBC, which does seem like the definition of a corporate asshole sponsor to me.
I don't get the animosity directed toward the sponsors - tickets are cheaper and if you are distracted by ad banners that much, maybe you should be at a stage where the band doesn't suck so that you read the stage rather than watch them...

The sound bleed was a little annoying at times I guess, it was just where you were positioned that determined how bad it was. I really don't have a problem with corporate sponsors but I do have a problem with corporate sponsors that release live recordings of the show & censor the artists. This is America not communist China or WWII era Germany. Lollapalooza & the music scene in general have always fought against censorship. Why tolerate it now, have we really become that subservient? I personally will never be a consumer of any AT&T products willingly. Another thing that pissed me off was that they roped off the nice grassy gnoll left of the main stage for VIP this past year. Guess I was VIP for all of 2005 cause thats where I chilled pretty much all weekend.

If you are referring to the Pearl Jam thing, you really need to get over it. Comparing 10 seconds of yet another PJ political rant being cut to WWII era Germany is ludicrous.

If you are talking about something else, please feel free to elaborate as to how a company can be communistic.

That would be a total departure in form for Lolla. What I mean is, they have used the same headliner format for the last two years:

Fri: Two Smaller Headliners
Sat: Two Smaller Headliners
Sun: One main headliner

Even if they were planning on changing the formula this year, I would assume they would still at least keep the largest name on sunday (ie Radiohead or Rage, NOT Kanye)

Yep, just shoot for cheapest airfare and then public transportation is GOLD in chicago. meaning you can hop off a plane and get right on an "L" to take you downtown to the "loop". That should cost less than $6 I think and they run every 15 minutes 24/7. Once you get downtown you can either hop a cab to your hotel or hoof it but if you have luggage you might want to take the cab.

It seems odd that NIN would close out the fest like Pearl Jam last year, but after seeing the APW sched of Radiohead doing 2 nights followed by JJ to close it out, maybe RH would indeed be on Friday. It doesn't matter to me, as I'll be there all 3 days. The prospect of this other headliner very much intrigues me. I have like 10-20 guesses, but none of them seem very good. I'm hoping against hope that it's not Kanye again.

Radiohead on Friday? I guess that's their passive-aggressive way of doing the anti-carbon schtick: play a festival on a day a lot of out-of-town people won't be able attend because of work.

suprefan
03-12-2008, 12:11 AM
Well Im guessing NIN would close, but it would seem fitting since they havent played a ''proper'' chicago show in a long time. The last time they went there in 2006 it was at first midwest bank which is in tinley park just outside the city.

So far Lolla has 2 bands announced. Two bands! And I will award no point for Fatboy Slim. Radiohead = +1, NIN = +1 vs. Portishead = +1, Kraftwerk = +1, The Verve = +1 (just because it's a reunion show), Aphex Twin = +1, Jack Johnson = -1. So that's Coachella 3, Lolla 2...and again, Lolla has had only two bands announced! So far, so good.

Aphex is exclusive to NA festivals.

And it's not that I don't "get it" it's the fact that Radiohead are not an exlusive festival get. Therefore, Lolla gets no points for it.

how accurate is consequence of sound?
You can call me gay, but id much rather have Coldplay headline Lolla than Rage Against the Machine, besides, I still remember hearing lolla organizers say they would never have Rage play their festival since they dont want to 'Destroy the city'

I could not see Foo Fighters on the Bud Light stage... so, I doubt that will be the conflict... NIN/FF are both main stage acts.

There is actually nothing I hate more on this earth. People that call them "The Foos" should be hung and stoned at the Motorola Q/Miller High Life stage at Lollapalooza this year.

having been to lolla already,
NIN im sure would be amazing live (havnt seen them yet or Wilco yet) so it be a big tuffee for me,
but i think it would be cooler to see Wilco play a festival in their home city
(I wonder how their 5 night gig went went a few days ago in chitown?),
Have they ever played lolla in chitown be4?

I went to night one of the "winter residency" and downloaded all the other nights. It was fucking fantastic. Nels Clyne=my guitar hero.

Night one was the best of all the nights from what I heard but fuck, they played for almost 3 hours each night and my only regret was not being able to attend nights 2-5.

Supre, when I read Radiohead is the centerpiece for the festival, I assume that means they're playing Sunday. But who knows? If Rage is added, you could literally interchange RATM/NIN/Radiohead for all of the nights and no one would think anything of it. 3 true main headliners is a major win for Lolla, if it holds up.

suprefan
03-12-2008, 03:14 PM
I totally understand that, and I would agree with that assumption along with anyone else thinking the same way. From what I know, Friday it is. Unless things change, which they could theres no denying that. But Ill stick to it until the line up is released showing a different day.

Otherwise than what? You are not providing any sort of validity to your statement. Show me something that says they are playing Friday and then I will try and show you otherwise.

I will say that my thoughts are all based on nothing for this lineup. Just a guessing game as to how it should be played out. Radiohead just might very well want to play on Saturday instead of Sunday since crowds are usually better.

I don't think I will have enough money to go to Lolla anyways this year. I have heard there is little to no atmosphere at Lolla... but did you really have that bad of a time?
Anyways, I am more looking forward to the Outside Lands line up. That one seems more within my grasp.

i hated everything about it. the way the festival is layed out is awful. the way they space their acts out is awful. they have 2 main stages at opposite ends of the park. and just alternate bands so you have to run from one end of the place to the next. the people are all just suburban/city kids looking for something to do on a weekend. id almost liken it to bumbershoot but not as cool at all. plus i hate most of the acts that they get each year. i slept through the first day i went and the second i showed up at like 5 pm (thanks for the ticket rob aka bosco).

i dunno. itd have to be one hell of a line up to get me interested again

What did you expect? Coachella in Chicago? It's a good jaunt from the Bud Light stage to the AT&T stage, but I also seem to remember a pretty good jaunt from Coachella Main Stage to the Sahara tent. You're in the city, so the whole vibe of a fest like Bonnaroo or Coachella is absent, but you can also go out at night and sleep comfortably. If you hate most of the acts, then why'd you fucking go?

It'd have to be one hell of a lineup to get you interested again? Ok, so all this Radiohead/NIN/RATM talk doesn't do it for you? Do you even like music?

The latest Lollapalooza rumor has Rage Against the Machine and Wilco added to the bill alongside the already-rumored Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. C3 Presents, the Austin, TX-based company behind Lollapalooza, refuses to confirm or deny any rumors. The official line-up will not be announced until next month. If Rage and Wilco were added to the bill, Lollapalooza would immediately head to the front of the line as the definitive festival of the season.
