Who gives a flying fuck whether the unknown drummer likes Tool or not? He's obviously not a drummer of any taste or skill if he doesn't appreciate Danny Carey, and in any event what does any of this matter? It's not like Tool gets thrown around this board like Daft Punk or anything. Lots of people don't like Tool. Lots of people don't like any band. Music is subjective. This is stupid, and arguing about it just means that you're easily baited.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that you're seventeen years old. Lemme guess, you've been taking lessons (maybe) for like two, three years tops? And frankly, no, they're not. They're great, and they're legends, but 4/4 time rock drumming is fucking boring. When you learn how to play a polyrhythm or two or someone finally clues you in to the fact that anyone who actually knows drumming knows that 90 percent of the most talented drummers in the world play almost exclusively jazz, get back to me.

Right, because Buddy Rich is the jazz drummer that everyone in the fucking world has heard of, because he was a legend more than half a decade ago and influenced the world of drumming tremendously. Listing Buddy Rich as evidence that you know anything about who good drummers are is like a guitarist bringing up Jimi Hendrix.

For the longest time, I thought Tool were pretty good. I wasnt a huge fan... but I owned Aenema, because that album is amazing. Other than that, I just thought they were pretty good.

Then in 2006 they announced a summer tour, with vancouver being one of the dates. To make a long story short. I didnt buy tickets. Then, they day of the show (August 22) I found myself at home with nothing to do. So I think to myself, "What they hell, why not go to Tool?" So I called up a bunch of friends, and one of my buddies who had NEVER been a concert before, said he was up for it. So I threw Aenema in the car and drove down to the stadium. I was able to score side stage seats for face value...

My mind was fucking blown by that show. Like. It was intenesly amazing. It is for sure on my top 5 concerts of all time. I dont even know what it is about them. They are just phenomenal musicians. And Maynard has such amazing stage presence. Since then, I have become a huge Tool fan and was even debating flying down to LA, JUST for the Tool halloween show. But funds would not allow. I want to see them live again, SO badly.

Tool fuckin kill.

unknowndrummer66

No, you're just clearly don't know much. You're still in the beginning stages of learning to play, and you went with a bunch of safe, revered choices that only a beginner would list. And that's fine, 'cause you're new to it, that's what happens. But don't act like you really know anything and list the fucking guy from Deep Purple.

You say Lateralus is boring? I'd bet you any amount of money in the world that you couldn't learn to play Carey's part in that song with two months to practice. You couldn't even count out the time sig. Go ask your drum teacher about Danny Carey and see what he has to say.

well ive been playing since i was 10
i like to think im passed the beginning stages

also i didnt list them cause i thought they were "safe"

bonham:
i love his grooves, his foot pedal work and his ability to improvise

ian paice:
hes a powerhouse drummer, hes got that 60's psychadellic jam drummer feel
whenever people hear his name they think smoke on the water, and base his skill on that personally i hate that song

highway star is the one u should listen to live

buddy rich: i list him cause when i was 10 my teacher said to listen to this guy, and ever since hes been my overall influence in jazz drumming

also i forgot to add MickaŽl Shrieve
that guy had speed and awesome grooves

lateralus is boring
10,000 days was boring

aenima was the only good album

alright ill analyze4 two songs

the time sig starts in 3/4 then goes 5/4 then 3/4
then its 5/8 or 7/8 spread out or 12/8 i dunno sounds similiar

reflection is all 4/4

and traid
it kinda throws you off with his misplaced bass beats

but its 12/8 upuntil the solo
cause thats where i stopped listening

cause lateralus sucks

Seriously, guys, why the hell are you perpetuating this argument? Those of us that know know, those of us that don't don't, and nobody have ever been convinced that a band they don't like is actually really good by words.

Let's use violence. I'll stab anyone that doesn't see them live.

J. If these shows are anything like the last, set up wise, you will do better by being up a bit higher. The floor will be seated, (they dont care for monkeys moshing) and the entire stage is a screen. Those on the floor (1st 20-30 rows anyway) get to be close to the band, and those in the stands get the full show.

Wheres the beef?

Naw. I wasnt dying to get tickets. I live in the Bay Area and to figure out a way to get monday and tuesday off of work to go to LA to see Tool would have been a stretch. But it would have been a treat to see Tool on my birthday. My attitude was that if I get a ticket then it was meant to be if not oh well.

I talked to some friends who were trying to do what you were doing and they ran into the same problem with trying to get more than one seat together. Man I would so go to that

Why do you think he didn't buy any?

You see him say anythign about it? Also odds are since he is going out of town ina couple weeks, I dont think he wants his $$ tied up into that. Also he doesnt buy out of state stuff that often as it is and unless he was garaunteed a return of 5 times as much as he spent, he wouldnt do it.

I dont find it the least bit shocking.

Neither do I really. Victoria rarely gets shows. And this is the first major show in Kelowna I have ever heard of... I think their "stadium" holds like 6,000 people or something.

I saw the SF show this morning first on the Live105 site as Suprefan had said it would be. Then when I got back from lunch there was an email from LiveNation letting me know about the Tool show for Bill Graham Civic. Its up on TM now.
On sale date is 10/28. Currently plotting my plan to get tickets since I will be in vegas. Supre we need to talk about this.

Tool presales are not for the general public and only for toolarmy members. If you want to know about a presale join toolarmy or look around the dozen or so tool related websites. fourtheye is the best imo.

And no there will not be a presale.

Maynard working with members of RAGE:

"They found themselves not working with (singer Chris) Cornell after the last AUDIOSLAVE record and they wanted to know if I was interested in starting a band. And I said 'No, I've got this other thing going on and two other bands to boot.' But what I suggested to them was that they should start their own band and have me sing a song, and have some other singers sing a song. I think on some level they agreed, and so that's what we kind of did. I went in and we wrote a song together and right now they're currently trying to record that song, and I'll go sing on it."

So he says he has two other bands. Maybe APC isn't dead after all. Unless there is another band I can't think of.

I have, horrible fucking sound.

Sound was fine on Saturday for Intepol. I dont know who you saw that had crappy sound. And get your hearing checked.

No second L.A. show unless it follows the later dates. Tool cannot play the Nokia the night before since Tori Amos is booked on the 9th. Looks like its only going to be 1 for now.

Adam Jones, the lead guitar and filmmaker of TOOL has been working with Alex Grey on Vicarious, the first music video from TOOL's 10,000 Days album. Scheduled for release shortly before Christmas 2007, the video features Jone's signature surreal and dark dream vision blended with Grey's glimpses into a brighter world. Stay tuned for release dates and pre-release screenings.

I'm not looking up the setlist this time around (prayin for a new one). Pleez don't spoil it peepz, or at least give a warning or something.

If they play D/R/T, I might go jump of the Stratosphere afterwards!

There will definitely be no D/R/T. It seems that lately they have reduced the number of songs on the setlist but extended the songs currently on the setlist. Shitty. I'm sure LA will hear Aenima though. How could you not play Aenima for LA?

Mr. Dylanja
11-09-2007, 12:28 PM
Yeah I know D/R/T is one in a million but who knows right? The last leg of the Lateralus tour is when they started pulling out the gems, so I will stay optomistic. Any setlist will leave me amazed, even if its the 100th time I've seen it. And I got way lucky with the tix, between me and my buddy 2 shows and 2 nights at the Palms 3 hundy each! Thats a deal! I cant wait!
