Speaking by phone Wednesday from somewhere between gigs in Seoul and Hong Kong, Reznor was low-key, firm but accommodating.

And he had some unexpected news to tell.

"YOU ARE getting the last show of the current incarnation of the band."

Although Reznor's touring band of drummer Josh Freese, guitarist Aaron North, bassist Jeordie White and keyboardist Alessandro Cortini are excellent support players, "at this point, I want to switch things around a bit. Nine Inch Nails as a rock band configuration, we've done it and we've done it again. I see other ways I can present the material in concert, more challenging, something new. I don't want it to go stale."

This group has toured together for two years, he said. "It's a well-rounded concert, a good collection of songs from different records."

If the show approximates the high production values seen on the 2006 tour DVD, "Beside You in Time," it should make for quite a spectacle, blinding strobe lights included.

"The show evolves, like a film," Reznor said. "It has a flow to it. And it'll be not what you saw on the DVD. It'll be cooler than that."

But the time has come to dial back.

"The idea of five guys playing loud music two hours, while it's the culmination of fine tuning over a lot of years, has got to change once finances come into play, especially performing in markets outside of the mainland U.S. I want to whittle things down."

Reznor was initially hesitant about doing this part of the world tour because of the expense. "But when you see a lot of people who don't speak English, knowing every word of your songs, that's pretty motivating and inspiring. And it helps that I have new management, a new head on my shoulders and the Internet to use."

After two years of touring, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor is disbanding his current lineup after this tour's final show in Honolulu. The band includes Jeordie White, left, Josh Freese, Reznor, Alessandro Cortini and Aaron North

why doesn't he just rename NIN to 'The Trent Reznor Band' already...

I'm glad I saw em at the Hollywood Bowl. ONe of the best shows i've been to. I like the idea of having new musicians to mix things up. I respect Reznor a great deal.

My friend went to that show, man he is one lucky person to see them with that line up for the last time. That set was really good, they did 25 songs.

Well that kinda sucks. Although I saw them at Coachella I missed the With Teet tour. After getting the DVD "Besides you in time" I couldn't wait to see them again on this tour. Oh well, I am sure whatever he brings to the table won't disappoint. Well, at least me anyways.

He needs to keep some of them in the band. Josh Freese better stay.

So, basically, it isn't Nine Inch Nails' last concert. It's just that Trent Reznor is going to water-down the new performances so that it can afford to go all over the world? Also that he will not play with all those people all together like that again?

EDIT: Bring back Chris Vrenna.

they all had things going for them .... red rocks, the venue .... pepsi center, large indoors with lots of stage setup ... coachella, the crowd .. but i guess it would be the fillmore since it was small and we could get within about 5 feet of the entire band ... canx**

I was going to ask if you saw them at the Fillmore. I got to see them with all 3 drummers so it was interesting to notice the difference between Jerome, Alex and Josh. I think the last time was my fave. At the Key Club in Cabazon, NIN fans from everywhere came, 17 hour wait, and totally worth it

Trent Reznor has always been the only permanent member in NIN. I don't think its a big deal that he is "breaking up" the current line-up. He'll have some others members soon enough.

Well yeah, but even Trent has said this was the best live group he has had.

This line up has only been touring for 2 years, and they just released the new album Year Zero this year ... great songs ...

sad to see it end.

not to mention Aaron is sexy as hell :)

I personally think it's pretty fuckin stupid to keep changing lineups album after album and never have any other permanent members with you. I like some NIN (especially the Fragile), but as far as just Trent goes...I couldn't give a fuck about him or his gigantic lame ego (same goes for Billy).

mk so i guess alot of u dont know how the recording industry works

NIN is just trent
no one else

he writes the songs

trent hires people to play the music in studio and live

they are signed by contracts

when the the contract is up they can either sign again or leave

thats why it changes

then why market yourself as a 'band'?

Wheres the beef?
09-23-2007, 03:52 PM
That means Josh and Jeordie are free to make another APC album with Maynard while Tool cools down from all the touring. I wonder what happened to Mr. Howerdel.

APC arent gonna be recording an album for a while. Maynard is busy with Puscifer right now, and is still doing shows with Tool. I also heard somewhere Tool might be going into the studio soon.

But yes. NIN. This was a good touring band. Its too bad Trent wants to change the line up. Im sure he will get some amazing musicians nonetheless.
