Sweet, I'll have to check this out. Good to hear that he's working with Youth again. Is Thomas Fehlmann out for now?

Sweet! If they do play coachella again, hopefully they get a longer set time + won't get cut off by the sound guys like what happened back in '99.

It was in 01, and no way is The Orb ever going to come back to Coachella because of that BS.

That was a fun show, too bad it turned into a Patterson DJ set when Fehlman stormed off the stage half way through.

alex stormed off first.
god knows what he was upset about. Thomas went after him, leaving an awkwardly empty stage for a few minutes. They both took turns dj'ing solo.
I just remember they started out with Thomas dj'ing, and Alex was hovering around on the side acting like he was on a bunch of acid. My friend said "who's that crazy guy on the side of the stage?"

Well both really, the time was up. The plug was pulled. I think they got to play for 45-50 mins. I used to have a shitty recording of it. It was sooooooo mellow in that tent. Everyone sitting or slowly grooving, The Orb could have played all night it seemed.

I caught the Orb back in 96 for the Orbus Terrarum tour at a now defunct Seattle club called DV8. I was baked out of my mind and the guy running the mixing board let me sit on the front of the platform that said board was on. I sat cross-legged for what seemed like hours and had my mind blown.
I saw them again the next year at the Gorge at Lollapalooza 97. Tool was on before them and Maynard told everyone to stick around for the Orb but almost nobody did which was fine with me. I moved down closer and watched them inside their cool pyramid which, again, blew my mind.

I saw The Orb with Prodigy in about '93. I remember three pyramids on stage, but I had A LOT of drugs in me - so my memory is a bit hazy.

It was awesome.

Perhaps. The Orb's was quite a bit smaller but they did stand inside of it with all their gear. There were screens around the bottom half on which various things were projected. I'll see if I can dig up a picture...

i saw that tour ... sort of some of my early techno or whatever it was called back then ... best pyramids ever though ... laser created pyramids that turned in circles from the top of the stage to the bottom, sometimes surrounding one person, then another, then change colors and expand and half the stage, etc .. it was what i would call awesome and i hate that word ... pink floyd ... hollywood bowl ... 1st performance of Dark Side in the US ... i still remember that show so well .. canx**

Yes, I knew it was more than just a standing pyramid. I remember movement. It's good to know that I'm not nuts, atleast not completely - yet.

It's actually not that bad. I don't know what was used to record it...if I had to guess, probably a mini-disc recorder, but I could be totally wrong. It does sound kinda crappy, but it's still very listenable and loud (not faint or quiet). I only have a mp3 of it that runs 35:50 in length...so I assume it's only a partial recording, but it does capture the moment when the sound guys unplug him...so maybe the Orb started playing late and only got in 35 mins?

menikmati

actually yes, it WAS recorded with a mini disc player...I remember being in contact with the guy who taped it and had it distributed as mp3...I should check MY own site more often, ha ha.

What were the skies like when you were young?

They went on forever
And they -- when I
We lived in Arizona
And the skies always had little fluffy clouds
And they were long and clear
And there were lots of stars, at night
And when it rained it would all turn
It -- they were beautiful
The most beautiful skies as a matter of fact
The sunsets were purple and red
And yellow and on fire
And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere
That's -- it's neat
Because I used to look at them all the time
When I was little
You don't see that

Layering different sounds on top of each other
Layering different sounds on top of each other

Little fluffy clouds
Little fluffy clouds and
Little fluffy clouds and
Little fluffy clouds and

You don't see that
You might still see them in the desert

The most beautiful skies as a matter of fact
Purple and red
Purple and red and yellow and on fire

The Orb (or maybe just Dr. Alex) at Disney Hall when "Midnight Cowboy" busted out (http://renegademartian.buzznet.com/user/video/play/5986/the-orb-at-disney-hall/?p=3)
