...for stealing my (and my wife's) VIP wristband for ACL-Sunday, thus preventing us from seeing The National, Yo La Tengo, Regina Spektor (again), My Morning Jacket or Wilco (was gonna be a gametime decision), the Decemberists, and of course Bob Dylan. Considering we were planning on being the "cool" parents who told her daughter that we took her to see Bob Dylan (when she turns 16 and starts hating us because we're her parents). Seriously, we had a hotel room for Saturday night (because of the proximity relative to our residence and also because we wanted to possibly run into some band members and well, also because we wanted to feel like we were on vacation)... Anyway, we leave the hotel (The Driskill) on Saturday to meet up with friends to watch the UT game and eat. We came back to the hotel to smoke before heading out for Damien Rice and Arcade Fire. We had been gone for a grand total of 3 hours, in which time the housekeeping staff came in and either blatantly stole the passes or accidentally threw them away. Thing is, the hotel has a strict "don't touch" policy with regards to personal items (considering the hotel runs $400+ a night, I think that's a pretty fair deal). We didn't even notice until Sunday when I told my wife that we needed to put on our "Sunday" wristbands and take off our "Saturday" ones... So, so pissed... I heard Dylan was lackluster but fuck, that was harsh.

Oh, and Tom. if I would've gotten your PM sooner, I definitely would have met up for drinks. Sunday AM, I was glued to espn to catch a glimpse of my fantasy players (who was in/out with injuries/weather updates for gambling/etc.) Never checked my email or the coachella board until 10 minutes ago. Next time, my friend. Are you going to funfunfunfest? Okkervil, New Porn, Of Montreal, Battles, Explosions in the Sky, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, Ted Leo, Cat Power, etc, etc, etc.

The Nothingman family will be there (though no fucking hotel this time around). So, so pissed... I drank about 22 scotches last night, then another 14 this AM. So, so pissed... Drinks are on me if you can make it, Tom. And for that matter, any of you other regulars who may be hitting up funfunfunfest (well, drinks won't be on me, but I'll meet for drinks)...

Wow... that is a brutal story. Sorry to hear that.

Did you complain to the hotel? Are they going to do anything to compensate you?

I sent out one of the most vitriolic emails I've ever written to the hotel. It's safe to say they won't be compensating me for shit. They were actually taking their employee's side, saying she was a "long-time, loyal employee". Well guess what, fuckwads, I'm a customer that had 2 VIP passes for ACL Sunday just lifted out of my room. With face value of $1,700 for 3 day passes... So fucking irate.

Ewig, no offense taken at all. But no, there is a ZERO % chance of anything other than housekeeping taking them or throwing them away. The tickets were on my bedside table partially covered by a small book of CD's, but still very visible. And I'm used to smoking weed, so I don't misplace things like VIP passes for Dylan. I'm livid, absolutely livid. We left to go watch the Horns' game, came back to a clean room... Only it was too clean (as evidenced by the 2 tickets that were removed).

Jesus-that's customer service for you-take the employee's side. I'd file a BBB complaint. It only takes about 10 minutes online to complete one. At least you may see some compensation that way. Oh, and if it's a chain (like a Hilton or something) I'd escalate up that way.

BBB is definitely your friend. I got $200 in gift certificates to UHaul (which I most likely will not use) because that shit ass company fucked me over so badly and I reported it to the BBB. If I didn't report it, they wouldn't have even thought twice about it.

Is this a major hotel chain?? I would skip hotel management and go directly to the owners because if it's for instance the W which is owned by Sheration I am sure the Sheraton Corporate office would be very upset to find out something like this happened.

Otherwise you must have a friend who's a lawyer/attorney who can write a very nasty letter threatening them and they will do something. Most places want to avoid lawsuits.

This whole situation really sucks. I hate it when things like this happen. Either way the hotel is 100% at fault. I am sure if the employee stole it they assumed that you could afford it or if they threw it away they just had no regard for personal property.

We use to have tons of stuff disappear from our office and our janitorial service said the janitor was so honest, blah, blah blah. So we set up a camera and guess what? The janitor was stealing everything.

It's part of destinationhotels chain, apparently. I've escalated up and have finally gotten a hold of someone who appears to have actual human feelings and emotions. The thing that pissed my wife and I off (besides not getting to go) was how we were treated by the staff. We were told to wait in our room while they attempted to find replacement tickets. We waited there for 4 and a half hours before giving up and going to the hotel bar. The offsite manager called our room and told us to wait for an update, but no update came. We just sat around and all contact between security, housekeeping and the two of us was initiated by my wife and I. It was gross mismanagement and I do believe there was some age discrimination involved. If we had been a couple in our 40's with theater tickets or UT football tickets (rather than a couple in their late 20's with an infant daughter), I would at least expect that we would have been offered a meal or drinks. But nada. We still can't believe it. Luckily, my wife has a friend that works for "Friday Night Lights" and knows people at CSE (who put on ACL fest) so we're trying to go through them to see if there is any way of determining whether or not our bands were scanned in (which would certainly indicate blatant theft). If they weren't used, it's possible the cleaning lady broke the house rules of "no touching persoinal belongings" and threw them away... It's just extremely frustrating and the lack of cooperation and complete apathetic nature displayed by their employees (with one or two exceptions) was astounding and quite alarming for a hotel of its magnitude. The Driskill is kind of "the" boutique, historic, luxury hotel of Austin. Same basic rate class as Ritz and 4 Seasons, but we chose it because it feels more "Austin" than the others. I know that really doesn't make sense, but it did make sense to us... At the time.

nm that story sucks, sorry for you. as for cause, my money's against blatant theft. the housekeeper probably just fucked up. she may have knocked them to the floor accidentally, before even noticing them, and then seeing them on the floor she tossed them thinking they're trash cuz they're on the floor.

Or, since you're a UT fan, it could have just been God unleashing his vindictive wrath upon you.

Wheres the beef?

consumerist.com is your friend....you might be able to find the CEO's number and call that person to complain. TCB my friend thats what you need to do.

consumerist.com and BBB are definite options if this guy that's handling things right now doesn't step up to the plate. I'll update once resolved (if resolved). Again Tom, I wish we could've met for drinks my friend. The whole thing just stinks.

Let this be a lesson to us all. Don't leave yr valuables lying around yr room. Use the safe, put the do not disturb sign on the door & leave the t.v. on so it can be heard outside the door to suggest that someone is inside when you leave. Unless you really really need the maids to make yr bed for you. You can always ask for fresh towels or soap or whatever you need at the front desk.

that happened to us in italy. i had been backpacking for 3 months in europe and at the end of the trip my dad came and hung out for the last week. when he arrived in europe he had a wad of cash on him, a couple thousand dollars, so i told him to let me hold onto it in my money belt so it didn't get pick-pocketed. well, we decide to go out to dinner one night and i forgot to bring my money belt with me, left it on the bed in our hotel room. now, this wasn't the nicest hotel, it was one i stayed in at the beginning of the trip months before. we came back after dinner and all the cleaning ladies seemed extra chipper. got into the room and we went to bed for the night. the next day we left for paris. once we got there i finally dug into my belt for my passport at the airport and promptly noticed the remaining $700 cash missing. my heart dropped! the only place it could have been taken from was that hotel. i was so pissed, but what could we do? so i told my dad i would hold the money for safekeeping and look what i did...whoops!

the sad part is that the employee who likely took them or tossed them in the trash is probably feeling really bad right now, but they have too much f*cking pride to own up and tell their boss. hope it all works out. try to stay positive and good things will come. (though i don't blame you for going apesh*t the moment you realized they were missing)

That's a good point. I usually don't let housekeeping into my room if I'm staying for a couple of days.

But with a baby, comes the need to dump soiled diapers. Oh, and while looking for the tickets, I tore through the trashcan that had soiled diapers, just in case the housekeeper had thrown the tickets in the trash. I mean, these were filthy shitty teething diapers, and I was tearing through them like they were Heidi Klum's panties.

Oh, and I just got offered a comp'd weekend (great, considering I fucking live here) and a formal apology. The supervisor I spoke with also said that when we do redeem the free stay, he will come in from out-of-town (720 area code) to meet my wife, daughter, and I and will act as a direct contact any time we have friends or family come into town. He also said he was disgusted at the actions of the hotel... Whatever, I still didn't get to see ACL on Sunday. I don't want to wait for this guy to get fired and then "bye bye comp'd promise" so we're considering staying there for a weekend in November (for funfunfunfest). We'd use it as an alternate home and will most certainly make use of the safe they offer...

Hey wiggy -- it's doing well - she is actually going to New York next week to do some press with Maidenform and Vogue about the 100th anniversary of the bra. It's some sort of virtual media tour or something. But what's really taking up her time is getting the invitations done for the Today Show wedding...

I'm a power sleeper... a power drinker... a power softball player?

I started a new job three weeks ago as in-house counsel for a big architecture firm. I love it. Which is weird to say... This is the first time I have ever actually liked my job. NO BILLABLE HOURS. And we have offices all over the world, so there are some nice travel opportunities.
