Pet Shop Boys cancel Hollywood Bowl show
September 5th, 2007

Pet Shop Boys - Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant - Citing “logistical issues” as the reason for the cancellation, performance-art dance-pop duo Pet Shop Boys have scrubbed the only North American date on their itinerary, Sept. 27 at the Hollywood Bowl.

The concert will not be rescheduled.

Meanwhile, visa headaches continue for acts from Britian. Already Lily Allen was sent home, her stateside tour canceled, while similar issues have held up Sri Lankan-born sensation M.I.A., who just issued her second album Kala. Now veteran politically-edged rockers New Model Army have been stymied by visa problems, pulling out of a nationwide tour behind a new album (High, out this week) that was due to start tonight (Sept. 5) in Philadelphia.

----------

I was really looking forward to the Pet Shop Boys. I hope it's not a hassle getting my money back from Ticketbastard.

They are going to charge you for the refund. At least that's what they were offering me for re-scheduling of The Cure at the Bowl.

i know that stuff happens to all of us ... but i think if you spend all of your time trying to get tics, even online, using credit cards, lalalla, the bands should rebate us $10 or 10% or so if they cancel .... it just might make them think a bit ..... i bet i bought tics to at least 25 shows that have been cancelled .... i know for the longest time tickemaster would keep their charges, but the last few years that has changed ... cr****

I saw Pet Shop Boys last year...they still do an amazing show.

If they're still doing the same stage show they did last year, the set might not fit in the "bowl". Remember, we had an discussion in the spring about whether it would fit in the Sahara?

i never caught them in concert .... i like them although they are a bit weird lol ... sorry gaypalm ..... i went thru a 10 year or so hiatus that i didnt get to go to any shows unless they were on the radio/a really big name/or my ex was in a good mood :)_ (which she usually was, she was a fine lady, not as great as my tygerlady, but fine anyway) ... cr****

Who the fuck are the Pet Shops? No need in wondering why they canceled their show. Lack of sales. Never heard of them in my life. Worthless, imo.

I saw that show too...it was a pretty incredible theatrical show. I dunno anything about the stage at the Bowl to comment on whether or not those giant cubes would have fit. But since they didn't move it to another venue or reschedule it, my guess is ticket sales.

No, we don't. They will still be doing an LA gig to be announced. They confirmed this via their MySpace account.

Didn't know they were still around. Behavior's the only album I'm heard but it's great.

my guess is ticket sales.

Yeah, the show I saw was pretty sparsely populated, and it was basically a free show. There were maybe 4000-5000 people, in a 18,000 seat arena.

Didn't know they were still around. Behavior's the only album I'm heard but it's great.

If you like Behavior, you might like their last album, Fundamental.

My favorite is Very, which I think was the album after Behavior, maybe 1993. It was almost a 180 from Behavior though. It's their most heavily dance oriented album, not including remix albums. Behavior was pretty moody.

Most of the stuff between Very and Fundamental was pretty weak though (aside froma few decent singles), so that's like 12 years where they weren't really worth listening to IMO. So no wonder you didn't know they were still around.

Here are two clips from last year's tour. (Embedding is disabled)

The Sodom And Gomorrah Show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOjoCSYHV5w)

Opportunities/Integral (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZtVctFFryk)
(I'm so sick of Opportunities, but Integral is amazing.)

And, here's It's A Sin from the Behavior tour, which was just plain batshit crazy.

Integral is by far my favorite song on Fundamental...pretty good album IMHO.

When I was working at Casa Video, we used to play one of their DVDs towards the end of occasional evening shifts. Don't know why I haven't picked up any of their CDs considering how much I enjoyed what I saw but it would be great to have them at Coachella next year.
