Doesn't seem to be a thread for this. Am I the only one that uses this site?

My hardrive crashed last night, so right now, I would rate my music collection as a sad, lonely zero.

I don't use the rating feature on iTunes. it seems silly. Why would I give a rating only I would ever see? besides, if I rates something low, does that mean I'll stop playing it? does Imperial Bedroom deserve a fifth star? who has time for these questions?

There's a smart playlist that collects any songs that you rate as 4 or 5 stars. It makes for a much nicer selection of material when you play stuff on random.

yeah i get that. but I'm always afraid, what if i gave something a low rating but later if I just listened more I'd grow to really like it? that won't happen if I only listen to stuff I've rated high. So then, I'd just rate everything 4 or 5 stars, and then there'd be no point.

You don't have to listen to the "highly rated songs" playlist all the time. You only listen to it (or tend to listen to that) when you're annoyed and don't want to deal with questionable songs.

We need a feature like that on this board.

We do have a feature like that.

I meant for posters, not threads.

I meant that the ignore function can be used like this.

I have a bunch of people on ignore and if I'm in a bad mood or don't have much time I tend to not click "View Post." But if I'm a mood where I don't mind dealing with annoying people or feel like giving them a chance or I'm bored I'll click most of the "View Posts" anyway.

Very few on my ignore list are actually on a hard ignore.

I signed up but don't have time for it at the moment. It seems like a neat website!

When I start clicking on the ignored person's posts every time, that's when I decide to take that person off ignore.

I agree with Tom about the itunes rating thing. I'd just rate everything too high.

Are you people illiterate or just plain stupid? This topic is about the rateyourmusic site, where you rate albums, singles, ep's, and mark whether or not you own them, and if so, on what medium. iTunes has nothing to do with anything.

I never understand what exactly the point of rateyourmusic.com is. Unless you enjoy writing a lot of reviews, what exactly do you get out of it? I go on there sometimes to read reviews but have never thought about signing up. I've also heard that getting started is incredibly annoying and time consuming.
