1. Chocolate Salty Balls - Shawn Mullins

Weird hearing the Lullaby guy sing a Chef of Southpark song. I was at Knotts Berry Farm and he was playing with Leanne Rimes. We were tired and just watching.

2. Running Up that Hill - Placebo

Amazing when I heard them play it at Coachella.

3. The Decemberists - The Weight

It was at Bonnaroo and they had Mavis Staples on stage. It was amazing.

4. Travis - Baby One More Time

They were the first to cover a pop song like this. Others have tried like The Fray doing, "Hips don't Lie" which just sucked.

5. Ben Folds - Bitches Ain't Sh*t

Sure Dynamite Hack did it first by covering Boys in the Hood but Ben Folds take on gangaster rap is so much more entraining!

in high school, my friends had this band "the flesh eating monkeys" (they're on myspace if yer bored). they did a cover of "straight up now tell me" by paula abdul that was absolutely hysterical. that would be my favourite.

i also liked at coachella in 2005 when new order started off "blue monday" with that kylie minogue song "can't get you out of my head".

and to Adam and you other people posting Nirvana -- isn't the idea to post songs you've actually heard performed live? not recordings?

NIN - Physical (adam ant)
Pearl Jam - Master of war (bob dylan)
Tool - No Quarter (led zeppelin)
David Bowie - Hurt (NIN)
Rage Against the Machine - Hadda been playing on the jukebox (allen ginsberg)

No Quarter? I never knew they had ever played it live. LUCKY!

Muse - Feeling Good
The Dresden Dolls - War Pigs, Mein Herr, Amsterdam (really want to hear "Two Headed Boy, Pierre, Hallelujah)
Arcade Fire - Naive Melody (This Must Be the Place)
CSS - Pretend We're Dead
Giant Drag - Wicked Game
Mates of State - Crazy

I believe that's ALL the covers I've heard. Yeah, wtf? Saw The White Stripes but they didn't play "Jolene", saw Jarvis Cocker at Coachella but he didn't get to bust out any of his brilliant covers (was hoping for "Space Oddity"), etc. I'm sure I'll hear some covers at Cat Power.

Who's to say I wasn't at the Nirvana Unplugged show?....ok I wasn't. Thanks to Toms dubious post I hereby change Nirvana - Lake of Fire to:

Les Claypool and The Flying Frog Brigade - Shine On You Crazy Diamond

I would love to see Neil Young at coachella next year in Willie Nelson's spot.

i have seen neil more then anyone else i have seen (30 times or more ) and what impresses me is: he could fit at coachella, stagecoach, bonnaroo, waka, you name it, and he could fit in the bill .... sorry for the hijack ... i have been doing that today .... cr****

You havent hijacked the thread at all. I would love for Neil Young to be there next year! But, summerkid, do you really think he would be billed that low? I think he could even be (Friday) headliner material. If not, definately in the second row of acts on the poster.

And the SOAD cover of Hey Hey My My started off the same... but they changed the lyrics at the end to flow into their next song, Kill Rock 'N Roll.

I feel the same about Neil Young headlining as I do about Tom Waits or Bowie.Book 'em GV and I'm THERE.As for headlining any night,YOU try to be the band that goes on after them. They are each capable of headlining Fri or Sat,but perhaps due to the nature of Coachella, only Bowie could close out Sun.
I'd really like The Pogues and Avalanches this year also...
