This board has the worst priorities ever.

Tool - 10,000 days

Uhm debuted at #1 and sold half a million copies in its first week (double the much anticipated Pearl Jam cralpbum).

Tool - Lateralus

You're not seriously suggesting that 10,000 days merits consideration because it debuted at #1 and sold a ton of copies its first week, are you?

Although they are both great albums, what the fuck does the above have to do with anything? I'm not even trying to be a dickhead either, just wondering.

OH, and uhm, Lateralus. Yeah.

We are listing the best of the decade, not the most over-rated.

Seriously though,
I hate to break this to you, but record sales and chart debuts have NOTHING to do with an album being good, hell, N Sync sold 4 times that many in a week, does that make it good? No. Lateralus was decent record, 10,000 was ok at best. But most Tool fans are extremely close-minded to other types of music - not saying you are - but your post suggests that. My priorities are just fine Kid A and Funeral are hard to beat.

and what the fuck is a cralpbum?

I second 10,000 Days, Elephant and Yoshimi and I'd like to add Royksopp's Melody AM and all of those Filter Cd's that get handed out as you leave the polo grounds.

Yeah I can see that. But it was all I could come up with at the moment-I thought that you know maybe that might mean something- but your post has reminded me that it certainly does not and I agree. I was a little bummed at no mention because they are definitely worthy albums especially for a band that makes albums every five years but still seems to sell out arena after arena (within minutes) and have top selling albums. Plus is every bit as experimental/progressive/mind blowing/etc as Radiohead (just cause its a bit heavier is OK if its not your cup of tea).

And thanks for not generalizing because I am open to new music (currently big into the Ed Banger crew right now but this board has turned me onto Battles and Muse which are quickly growing on me) but Tool always has a special place in my heart).

I was merely expressing my dissapointment at no mention of Tool even though I think it should be acknowledged even if it wasnt your favorite. I forgot this thread is about opinions. And like the saying goes: "Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one". (not to call you an asshole)

Crapbulm is something I just kind of came up with. Its a mix of crap + album.

Is This It by the Strokes really started my love of music. It moved me away from Staind and Nickleback and Sublime and shit that Live 105 was playing at the time and that I thought was cool (8th grade, cut me some slack). So that is my top album of the decade. There is stuff that is certainly more sound artistically, but I owe that record and that band a lot. Plus, it rocks.

Shit... a top 10 list?... Well, I'm going to do mine in the style of "no particular order".

* The Postal Service - "Give Up"
* Death Cab for Cutie - "Plans"
* dredg - "Catch Without Arms"

* A Perfect Circle - "Mer de Noms"
* Cake - "Comfort Eagle"
* Franz Ferdinand - "Franz Ferdinand"
* The Dresden Dolls - "Yes, Virginia..."

Albums I'd trade any spot in the previous 10 for:

* The Flaming Lips - "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots"
* Red Hot Chili Peppers - "By the Way"

* Death Cab for Cutie - "Transatlanticism"
* Blonde Redhead - "Misery is a Butterfly"
* The Dresden Dolls - "The Dresden Dolls"
* Rilo Kiley - "More Adventurous"
* Coldplay - "X&Y"

Albums that'd make it with a bit more gestation and time:

* Jarvis Cocker - "Jarvis"
* Junior Boys - "So This Is Goodbye"
* Muse - "Black Holes and Revelations"
* The Strokes - "First Impressions of Earth"
* Tool - "10,000 Days"
* DNTEL - "Dumb Luck"
* Interpol - "Our Love to Admire"
* Arab Strap - "The Last Romance"
* The Dresden Dolls - "Yes, Virginia..."
* Interpol - "Our Love to Admire"

Then the last few I wanted to put up there, but either hadn't not enough space or hadn't given it a thorough listen-through:

* Depeche Mode - "Playing the Angel"
* Morcheeba - "The Antidote"
* Spoon - "Gimme Fiction"
* LCD Soundsystem - "The Sound of Silver"
* The Gossip - "Standing in the Way of Control"
* The Shins - "Chutes Too Narrow"

I'm wondering about Boredoms-Vision Creation Newsun, because, while getting a small release in Japan in '99, it wasn't released to most of the world at large until 2000. It would be in my top ten at #2, but I'm leaving it off for the moment, so adjust as you will.

That was a very abbreviated reasoning. I like "The Pyramid Song" and "Packt..." more than any songs on Kid A (except maybe Idioteque). Not that it matters anyway. This is all opinion. It's my goddamn opinion. I didn't want to stack anymore Radiohead in there--I probably should've left off HTTT as well, but HTTT touched off a really big resurgence of interest in Radiohead for me. After HTTT came out, I decided I may as well travel to see them live again, since the last time they played AZ was 1995.

You're correct. I don't know why so many assholes think that Bright Lights is better. Both you fat bastards have shit for brains. Fatty shit, too. Alright, here's my list as best I can recall:

1. Radiohead -- Kid A
in no particular order:
A Perfect Circle -- Thirteenth Step
Tool -- Lateralus
Arcade Fire -- Funeral (why not?)
Interpol -- Antics
Daft Punk's forthcoming live album, fuck bothering with Discovery
DJ Dangermouse -- The Grey Album
Elliott Smith -- From A Basement On A Hill
Kanye West -- College Dropout (yes, it is, get fucked)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- Fever To Tell (simpler than a lot of stuff since then, but still the best package album)
Fiona Apple -- Extraordinary Machine (bitch gets a spot no matter what, too bad When The Pawn was 99. But this was a really good album nonetheless--sadly the mix on the original version that leaked was better than the eventual release)
Air -- Talkie Walkie

Shit that has no business appearing on this list:

The fucking White Stripes
The fucking Strokes
RHCP
Jay-Z (and if you're going to put him it's The Black Album)
The fucking Postal Service
TV On The fucking Radio
NIN
Muse (they can battle for a spot when they stop sounding like Pablo Honey and that asshole stops singing falsetto)

Bands that might have an outside shot of making an album that belongs on here in the rest of the decade:

Bloc Party (fuck y'all, there's potential)
Muse (I guess, whatever)
Okkervil River, The National, and whatever other bands your cocks are jogging this week that I haven't bothered getting into
Tokyo Police Club (it COULD happen)
The Raconteurs (big maybe entirely based on Broken Boy Soliders--the song, not the rest of the album)
The Knife (entirely based on how phat Heartbeats is)
The Black Keys
Radiohead again
Portishead if they release a new album and it lives up to the rest of the catalog
Peter Bjorn and John maybe, I dunno, who gives a fuck
Of Montreal (maybe they did already, not really sure)
A Perfect Circle again

Also it's a sign of someone with a quick mind, someone who can think on their feet, regardless of how whacked out their opinions might be.

You make great points sometimes but then you should just stick to them, instead of going all attack mode on others. Unless they deserve it. Pick your battles. Otherwise you're just going to exhaust yourself or at the very least, wear out your welcome again. Just a thought.

Also, your taste is suspect. The wow was for the bluster, but your taste IS suspect. Interpol/Tool/A Perfect Circle over the Stripes and TVOTR? This says more about you to me than you might realize. Just an opinion.

That was more in reference to Mauve's repeated exclamations of astonishment. That's just annoying--there can hardly be anything surprising about me anymore.

Frankly, I'm still really unclear on what exactly y'all are getting all twisted about. What from my post was so brash or blustery or whatever more-than-slighty-homosexual adjectives we're using?

This is why I don't. You don't know a thing about Tom, his life, or his family. He's actually quite an accomplished and real person. Accomplished by whose standards? I'm willing to bet not mine. And "real?" What does that even mean? If you're not an actor you're most likely a real person--not a big achievement.
Also one of the most open and honest people you could hope to meet online. We need more open and honest people on the internet. Wait a minute, it's the internet--who gives a shit?
You cutting into him with your obvious and irrelevant one-liners doesn't endear you to me and perhaps not to others. You keep getting caught up in this idea that I have ever, ever tried to be endearing to you or anyone else. I don't know why you can't wrap you head around this, especially after that "serious talk" you started up in the chat room. That was just adorable.
You make great points sometimes but then you should just stick to them, instead of going all attack mode on others. I have a running annoyance with Tom chiming in with his half-cocked wiseassery every morning. Everyone should be too bored of me to bother to express their distaste.
Unless they deserve it. Pick your battles. Otherwise you're just going to exhaust yourself or at the very least, wear out your welcome again. Just a thought. Wait a minute--I didn't wear out my welcome yet? Who the fuck is welcoming me?

Also, your taste is suspect. The wow was for the bluster, but your taste is suspect. Interpol/Tool/A Perfect Circle over the Stripes and TVOTR? This says more about you to me than you might realize. Just an opinion. Oh my god, kill yourself. The White Stripes are some of the simplest music ever made and Jack peaked with the Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground riff. Any band where there's only two instruments and one of them is being played barely passably (Meg, natch) is seriously assholed. And TV on the Radio? Since when are they anything remarkable? They having Staring at the Sun and I Was A Lover, that's fucking it.

RotationSlimWang

Cocaine's the worst drug there is. Partly because it makes you a douchebag but mostly because the high is the shittiest there is. The best part of coke is before you do the first line and about the first five minutes afterwards, and then THE WHOLE REST OF THE FUCKING NIGHT is downhill. From that five minute mark onward everyone is just trying desperately and unsuccessfully to recapture that five minutes.

It's fucking pathetic, 'cause it's not like coke feels as good as heroin. Christ, it's not even as good of an Up as amphetamine. It just stimulates craving you can't possibly win at, like how gambling addicts can't stop until they've lost everything.

That being said, you're gonna need an eightball if you ever want to get a blowjob from that stripper.

Honest to God, no sarcasm. I can't keep your drugs straight. I know you don't use needles and you used to be a heroin addict. After that, all I really have is that you've tried just about everything. I think.

Again, no sarcasm. I want to make accurate drug references when posting about you.

Now that you mention it, as a result of benzo drought I've been trying out this mood stabilizer my psych wanted me to give a shot at my last visit. It's called Limictal. I can't notice any fucking difference whatsoever. I'm just waiting for my shipment of Nitrazepam to come in the mail. Every day that goes by that it doesn't arrive is a day I want to do horrible things to innocent people.

Drugs I'm doing currently: Adderall (amphetamine), Limictal, Ambien (almost out, desperately wishing not), weed (not really a fan but it's a downer and some of my friends actually have it, unlike the drugs I really need, useless cocksuckers), occasionally Mirtazapine to help sleep (in conjunction with the Limictal, Ambien, and OTC sleeping pills--that's how horrible getting to sleep is for me), and uh... I guess that's it for right now.

Drugs I have done and would do again in a heartbeat: ecstasy and any of the variants; any of the other phenethylamines and tryptamines Shulgin discovered except for 5-meo-AMT (that shit's brutal with the body load); acid; mescaline (real or imitation like I used to get in Montreal); heroin (at least a couple more times); all other opiates; crack (I'm always up for a little when I'm this bad off--sadly the last few times I've cooked up in desperation I got the mix wrong somehow and it ended up fucked up); mushrooms; almost all prescriptions especially benzos; PCP, K, DXM; GHB (but I'm trying to get off it 'cause it does weird shit to my musculature); LSA if you could extract it from Morning Glory seeds (eating 7 grams of those seeds was miserable on my stomach for the first two hours)... I guess that's all of them.

Drugs I have done and wouldn't do again: Salvia; DMT (maybe in Ayahuasca but definitely not smoking that nasty-ass powder); meth ('cause I still need several thousand dollars of dental work and have no money to get it done, but I still kinda like it); cocaine (at least I don't buy it and try not to do it).

Ever since I started taking paxil, I have NO problems sleeping. I don't know if it's a cause or not, but honestly, I fall asleep in 15 minutes or less every night. Up until 29, I was lucky to fall asleep within the first hour of going to sleep.

Hmm, I'm trying to remember if I had a similar experience. Probably not, I was such an insomniac it wasn't even funny during my Junior year when I was taking it. Might've helped a little but I'm pretty sure I still got less than four hours every school night, although it did manage to keep my panic attacks under control. Could have an orgasm for like two months though, that was a shame. Fortunately no one seemed to notice.
