View Full Version : Yeah Yeah Yeahs @ The Mayan 8/22 -- Who's Going?
08-21-2007, 03:01 PM
So I'm looking at picking up one ticket off craigslist for like 75 bucks, and I'm wondering if anyone else on the board jumped on that presale. So ROLL CALL! Who's coming, what section are you in, and do you have an extra ticket I could have for less than 75?
08-21-2007, 04:52 PM
Update: Well I have my ticket now at scalper prices, so who else is going to this fucking thing? How many of you passed on the opportunity to see of the best live rock acts I've seen over the past several years of festival-ing who are performing in a big concert hall that's designed to look like a FUCKING MAYAN TEMPLE.

as I was saying in the upcoming shows thread, paying $40 bucks to see them... ehh not worth it when I saw them 4 times in 06 twice at shoreline for festivals and twice at the palladium, that was the same price as this one ticket
PS: the ep isnt even that great.

The EP has some good stuff, but it's going to be a full show in a kick-ass venue, and more than the EP I'm amped to hear Sealings live again. That song is fucking amazing.

I'll be up in there. YYYs always put on a good show... and I only saw them 1.5 times last year so I'm excited to go.
I'm about a quart low on Karen O screams so I'm hoping to fill up tomorrow.
08-21-2007, 05:39 PM
So nobody has a spare ticket since I'm about to go pay 90 dollars for one in twenty minutes, right?
08-21-2007, 05:41 PM
No way... they were going for about $100 a pair on ebay!
You can do better!
08-21-2007, 06:22 PM
I will be there, rolling.
08-21-2007, 06:39 PM
Who's the opening act?

Who's the opening act?
I thought that it was a Dj named Dave Wang.

I went to the show at the fillmore last night... pretty good! not the best, but good enough for moi.
I bought a spare off someone for $40. some people were paying $60. there were tons of people looking for tickets -- most I have seen in a while. some stupid chick sold two tickets to a scalper for $20 each!! I tried to intercept her -- she could have sold to anyone but the scalper and I'd be happy -- but since she had already offered them to him she wouldn't go back on it. then the scalper got really offended that I tried to persuade her not to sell to him. wtf. I hate scalpers. anyway I was so pissed off at her for that.

Touts know how to buy low and sell high.

We enjoyed it.
I think they played everything I would have liked to have heard, except maybe '10x10'.
Lot of energy as usual.
The Mayan has TERRIBLE sound, unless you're in the pit. We left the floor before the encore and realized it sounded horrible everywhere else (balcony and floor behind pit).
08-23-2007, 11:09 AM
Awesome that I decided on the pit then. I figured that the balcony was the best, because you can see the whole stage floor [Karen would be spending time on it]. But I didn't like being seated. So I moved down to the pit.
Observation: They [security] were taking an abnormally amount of people out. At least it was abnormal to me. Not sure about you LA-people.
08-23-2007, 12:06 PM
Yeah, what the hell was up with security? They spent half the show leaning over the railing and yanking fools out. Never seen it like that at the Mayan... or anywhere recently.
The sound was really low in that bar area behind the floor so we also moved down to the pit. Muy bueno! I got all the Karen O screams I was needin'. I loved her reaction to getting hit in the head with the water bottle. A quick laugh and then she dumped another full bottle on herself.
08-23-2007, 12:08 PM
She actually complimented the aim of the thrower. Then poured it on herself.
Security was hellbent on flexing muscle.
08-23-2007, 12:10 PM
Yeah, we couldn't quite hear her when she was talking, mumbling or singing quietly. Fire the sound guy!
08-23-2007, 01:12 PM
I don't think it's the sound guy, it's the venue, or rather the placement of speakers and such.
And for the most part, security was yanking out people who weren't feeling well. They only went after 2 shit disturbers.
