If I had seen Daft Punk at Coachella I would have picked them, but I missed them and saw them at Red Rocks..so for me it is a 3 way tie between Sigur Ros 2001, Radiohead and Bjork 2007. DECLARE INDEPENDENCE!!

Boourns
08-13-2007, 02:39 PM
What did Sigur Ros play in 2001? Wasn't that their first American gig? I can't believe all those lucky Europeans got to see them open for Radiohead.

YES!! I can say I was there for their 1st US/North American gig ever!! I had no idea what I had walked into but saw them based on a review that Thom Yorke did on their second album...It was probably similar to what people experienced with Daft Punk's show...it hit me like a tons of bricks and life wasn't the same after that...it was also my 1st Coachella and first music festival ever...been going ever year since and will be until the day I die...

this poll is biased. Daft Punk is in all caps, while the others are not.

please redo this.

TeamCoachellaHellYeah
08-13-2007, 03:36 PM
I think that was due to them missing in the previous poll...

crazzz2007

regardless, it makes the poll biased.

and the acts should be listed alphabetically. i guess boourns just isn't cut out to be a pollster.

I voted Pixies, and putting Daft Punk first and in caps gives it a biased advantage I think, also Sigur Ros in 2006 is the performance in the poll not 2001. Also, which Tool and Rage performances are we voting on? 1999? 2006? 2007? Bjork too, 2002 or 2007? Arcade Fire same sceneraio, 2005 or 2007. And Underworld 1999, or 2003?

Boourns
08-13-2007, 04:02 PM
Well, there's only 10 choices allowed and if you don't enter them all within one minute, you lose the poll option. I've started polls before that didn't have...polls because it took too long to enter all the data. So no years. I guess either/or.

And I didn't even vote for Daft Punk.

suprefan
08-13-2007, 04:04 PM
I guess you can redo it, but its still a big if considering all those acts mentiond have been there twice.

sonofhal
08-13-2007, 04:09 PM
I had to go for Arcade Fire (2005) as it was the first time i'd seen them and they were truly amazing. Daft Punk probably would have won had i not seen them before.

the beginning of the pixies' "where is my mind" really stands out. the sound of everyone singing along to the beginning "woo-oooo" was hauntingly beautiful. i love busting out the live cd i bought that night of the show from disclive.

and being there ... 2004 was so effin' hot ... they came on at what, 7:30 or so .... it was just starting to cool down and get really comfortable, probably in the high 80s (compared to 105 or so at 3 pm) ... the sky was absolutely ridiculous, all purple & pink, best sunset of the 5 years I've been going ... by far my best Coachella moment when they played.

i got the raddest shot from the vip section while they played! i used photo stitch on my camera and created an awesome panoramic shot from vip/left of stage all the way to the back of the crowd back by the entrance to the venue. got it printed out and mounted on foamcore, 6 feet wide and 8 inches high. looks amazing on my music wall.

I disagree. If the poll says best ACTUAL performance then one shouldn't leave out certain years just because there were less people early on.

08-16-2007, 05:05 PM
I can only vote on shows I saw and that being a small percentage of whats on the poll I have to vote Tool.

And let me tell you why: Tool's '06 performance was their first show in almost 5 years. It was the opening show of an epic world two covering 4 continents, 2 years, and lord knows how many shows. It was also epic for the fact that their new album had come out a mere 7 weeks before (also a 5 year hiatus) and new material was being played for the first time live. Plus its Tool. And, well, Tool always kills it.

DAFT PUNK-Missed it
Radiohead-Missed it
Pixies-Missed it
Tool-Missed it
Gogol Bordello-Missed it
Arcade Fire-Missed it
Underworld-Missed it

Oasis-Better live than on CD
Depeche Mode-Wasn't feeling them that night
Madonna-Just added her name to raise an eyebrow
Nine Inch Nails-Please
Ben Watt-He played a great set
The Cure-Great performance. I didn't even want to see them. I shut up after 2 songs.
The Chemical Brothers (2002)-great set on the main stage
Charlatans UK-Great performance

Answer...
I still need to think about it.

Other favorites not listed:
The Cure (2004)
The Kills (2005)
Wilco (2005)
The Prodigy (2005)
stellastarr* (2006)
Silversun Pickups (2007)
Sonic Youth (2007)
Travis (2007)
!!! (2007)

Note on The Cure: due to the ongoing Radiohead vs. Pixies vs. every other headliner, The Cure have been under-appreciated. While I have seen better sets from them, it still stands to other headliners over the years, and I look forward to their return someday (2008 with Radiohead?).

gogol bordello. - best set of the weekend for me

kings of leon

lcd soundsystem

RATM

soulwax

explosions in the sky

cornelius

circa survive

my least faves were

sonic youth - i love them, but their set time was conflicting with another one plus they played too much off rather ripped

manu chou - i hate this guy. a wanne be santana/joe strummer douche. plus every freekin' song they played had the same routine which was mexican strumming then fast punk drumming then repeat. ugh...

crowded house - really, who put them in that time slot? poor guys should have been on the outdoor stage.

Gogol Bordello @ Coachella is the best show I have ever seen. I have seen Gogol twice since then. Vegoose was one of them. They certainly did kick ass at Vegoose, but nowhere near the extent they did at Coachella. Sorry you missed it.

Headlining performances where half the crowd walks away during the show aren't really candidates for the best performance.

Thus making '99, as a whole, the greatest Coachella ever.

99 was the first.... perhaps the best.
It's what got me hooked.
But 06 was a great year also.
Haven't missed one since.
Maybe Prodigy should have been added to the poll?

If I had went to Coachella 06... I probably would have stayed for all of Depeche Mode, then casually walked over to Daft Punk. Only to have my mind blown...
Goddamn do I wish I had gone to 06.

Exactly what I did. I went from Enjoy the Silence to Around the World!!

The Pixies!!! W/ RadioHead a very close 2nd. Come on people!!! The Pixies. Anyone else, doesn't even compare. With the Pixies, one hears the music comming from their souls, not from some electronic do-dads & keyboards & samples of other artists talent. The Pixies are RAW with it!!! Raunchy!!! And yes, SEXY!!! Want proof? Ask Radiohead, Blur, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, PJ Harvey, etc, etc..

Yup 99 was a masterpiece, a legendary indulgence.

I simply was not able to watch a single act all the way through for having to run to another stage or tent to catch a part of some other amazing acts set.
Total synapse overload.

Having said that, the greatest act I have witnessed at Coachella (or ever really) has to be Daft Punk.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. Only 2007 was my first Coachella/music festival ever (I am 16), and instead of Sigur Ros I felt it with Arcade Fire. I had listened to Rebellion a couple times and that's it when I saw them, I can honestly say my life was changed by that performance. It was just like something inside me broke and I felt more alive than I ever had. My taste in music as well as personal shit just totally shifted after Coachella, for the better, and that Arcade Fire performance was the real turning point.

Don't know why I'm sharing this, lol.

I enjoyed Elbow (can't remember what year) cus I was in the very front and the music was lush. NIN was pretty crazy with the swirling crowd and chaos. Their stage looked like the Death Star from Star Wars. MIA...New Order was good opening with 'Atmosphere'.

Oasis was pretty shitty...and I like Definitely Maybe.

I went to the Glass House show, before Coachella's headlining gig, to see what all 'The Pixies' fuss was about. I had more fun going across the street to the honky tonk bar drinkin and watching some geezers play country music. What's up with the non alcohol policy at the GH?

Pixies show just had a bunch of sweaty dudes rubbing against each other in the front. Glad I had a seat on the balcony. Fuckin gross.

Daft Punk.

I feel bad for everyone who didn't see that performance. Hell, even if I didn't see them at Coachella and only saw them at Red Rocks, I'd still vote that they were the best act at Coachella.

But yeah, they were so good at Coachella I had to go again in '07 to see them at Red Rocks (which was just as good... if not better).

I would agree more with you if Tool performed the set they played at Bonnaroo at Coachella. However, their performance in 2006 (unless you are talking about their performance in '99... which I can't comment on) wasn't anything too far off their performance on the Lateralus tour.

And I fucking love Tool. Seen them six times. But their show at Coachella in '06 was simply a case of the DAMN GOOD setlist. Had they whipped out the 10,000 days lasers... then we can talk.

But Daft Punk redefined "Live Show" in 2006. I mean, I actually came back home and told my fellow Tool friends that, "Sorry, Daft Punk was better than Tool."

they didn't believe me, but that is just further testament to Daft Punk's rightful position in The Throne of Bestness.

Faithless in 2007. I've never seen a band control all of the audience as passionately as they did. Elbow this year was spectacular too- they caused me to choke up a bit. As for Yr poll, I saw Sigur Ros in 2001, and it was absolutely horrible (and I love them). They had no soundcheck, all you could hear were the other stages bleeding over.
