Factory was like the first independent label.

Seriously. I'm glad he introduced the Mondays.

This is the saddest thing. Everything I love about music today was made possible because of the likes of him.

I can think of many things sadder, but this is a recognizable loss in the archives of music history.

Why you holding a quote like that onto your messages then if you are so dewy eyed....prick!

I forgot, Edison lost their credibility with the indie kids when they went from cylinders to discs.

How about Sun. Commodore? Blue Note?

Just sayin.

Yeah, this is definitely terrible... I ended up getting to the Mondays about 10 minutes into their performance and missed him... Shame really. I'm indebted to his vision, and thanks to him, a wealth of music was opened up to me. Thank you, Tony, and I hope the party's still raging wherever you may be now.

Weird. In another thread there was some debate about who wrote China Girl and so I went on Wikipedia and found this:

Pop, for his own part, has described The Idiot as a cross between James Brown and Kraftwerk.[3] In any case, the album has been cited as a major influence on a number of post-punk, electronic and industrial artists including Joy Division, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails. Lead singer of Joy Division Ian Curtis was found hanged in 1980 with the record The Idiot still spinning on his turntable.

It would've been even weirder if I'd referred to Ian Curtis as an idiot.
Oh and Tony Wilson was the kind of maverick lunatic dreamer the world needs more of.He will indeed be missed.

Steve Coogan looks nothing like him. Even accounting for age.

Ron & Fez did a nice tribute on XM this morning. They always open with a movie clip, then into a song.

This morning, it was a clip from 24 Hr Party People of Tony talking to God , followed by "Dead Souls".
