we stayed at hooters. it was pretty decent there. its right by the new york, mgm and i think the tropicana. not too crowded, games are cheap if youre broke(or almost broke) and they have a hooters, right there. we stayed somewhere else a few years ago i cant really remember so that not saying much for the place.

I suggest Bally's, nothin too fancy but a great location smack dab in the center of the strip! It is usually cheaper than the other hotels too.

The Luxor
Treasure Island
The Monte Carlo
New York, New York

I've actually stayed at all 4 places:

I'm partial to the Monte Carlo ... but, perhaps not the reasons you'd want.

Their casino is actually well lit by comparison ... something I appreciate. They've got a brew pub (mmm, beer). Rooms were great and I just liked the overall atmophere there. I must have won a lot too, because this is all I can think of, oh, and the waitresses at the time were hot and wearing low LOW cut cocktail outfits.

The Luxor was nice, I like to gamble there, they've got a ton of tables. But, it's a little too far away from everything else on the strip ... granted, if you're going for Vegoose, perhaps you won't spend much time on the strip. I stayed in the pyramid (there are more rooms not in the pyramid), which was cool as you went to your room in an inclinator ... but, sadly, the sound from the main floor echoed up thorugh the pyramid all night. Annoying.

New York New York, wasn't impressed at all ... shitty food options in the hotel and the gaming floor was tiny, the least amout of table games for any of these places. Nice looking from the outside, disappointing on the inside.

Treasure Island ... it was ok, got to be in the mood for all that Pirates of the Carribean crap ... if you are, lots of good places inside to get schnockered off fruity rum drinks ... casino was nice ... and it's centrally located on the strip ... that's a huge bonus if you like casino/bar hoping.

This is based on stays over the past 10 years ... so, perhaps all these critiques are not current. But if I had to rank them ....

pretty standard ... roomy, but not huge ... actually NY NY was a noticably smaller ... I don't think they are going to put me on their marketing team any time soon.

I cannot speak for Hooters rooms ... but the wings are tasty.

I've only stayed at the Monte Carlo - rooms seemed a pretty decent size in comparison to other American hotels i've stayed in.

Also, the Yard of Margarita at the mexican restaurant in the Luxor is lethal.

So Vegoose is pretty far down the strip then eh? Well Ron, if your place doesnt work out, a ride would be very much appreciated. Oh, and if you are having troubles finding places that will let you check in on Friday, check out www.expedia.ca Maybe its .com for you down in the states, either way, I found tons of hotels that have check ins for Friday that are in all price ranges.

HOOTERS!!!!, isnt great but its not bad. the rooms are a pretty good size, like i said they also have a hooters restaurant, and a diner that has and awesome ceaser salad.(just ask for the ceaser on the side). well you cant really mess up a ceaser but anyway. the room was pretty clean, they have a pretty big swimming pool with i think 3 hot tubs. they have a newer area of the hotel also if i remember correctly, we didnt stay in that wing(no pun intended) but the room we did stay in was pretty good. they have a pretty cool design for the rooms, tiki style almost. feels inviting.

The Luxor

Assuming you're OK with the rates on all of these, I'd pick New York New York. I've stayed at all but Monte Carlo.

I stayed in a suite at Luxor, and even the suite wasn't that great. I'd stay there again if it was cheap.

Also stayed in a suite at Treasure Island- it was very nice, but I don't know what the regular rooms are like. Note...this was renovated the most recently of the 4.

Stayed in a standard room at New York New York, it was great, although kind of long and narrow. The casino is beautiful, and not huge and confusing. You can get off your elevator and walk through the casino and out to the strip in just a few minutes. It would also be a good choice if you're going to a House Of Blues show. You can walk across the skywalk and hop on a free tram to Mandalay Bay. (Of course, Luxor is even closer, you can walk there in a few minutes.)

I said in the other thread that I wouldn't pay a premium to stay at NYNY even though I love the casino. But if you're comfortable with the rates, it's a good choice, and the best of these 4.

If you want to stay on the strip and money is not an issue, I suggest the following...

Ceasar's Palace
Bellagio
Venetian
Mandalay Bay
Wynne

If you want to stay on the strip and money is an issue...

Cricus Circus
Tropicana
Excalibur
Treasure Island
New York, New York

If you want to stay somewhat off the strip and have the time of your fucking life...

Just got back from Vegas last week. Stayed at the MGM Signature..

http://www.signaturemgmgrand.com/

Got the Jr. Suite.. paid $260 a night..salt water swimming pool, free valet parking, amazing room (can easily sleep 4. 1 king size and 1 queen pull out and has a small kitchen) You can also get a view of the strip if you check in early enough and request it.. the only down side - it's about a 5 minute walk to the casino.. Food is so expensive, therefore we brought a few meals and cooked them in our room.
Other places i've stayed: MGM Grand (rooms ok - hotel / casino is a labrynth) - Luxor (liked the room, hated the casion and hotel set-up) - The Mirage - 2nd favorite place (room was great and the strip is very accesible)

The HardRock was probably the best place for gambling.. good luck and have fun..

I go to Vegas - A LOT. I've been told I should write a travel book.

anyway...

The Mirage is great - great location on the strip right next door to the Forum shops and they have 2 really great restaurants there (albeit pricey) including one called Stack. Plus, now they have the groovy Beatles Love Lounge, which is a cool place for a drink. (I also suggest seeing the LOVE show, if you have the means and time) The rooms at The Mirage are larger than other standard rooms on the strip, and feel nicer than they really are due to stuff like marble walk ins - and a oversized closet and bath, etc...

TI is a smaller, more budget minded version of the Mirage - it's not as nice, but the rooms are fine and the rates are always cheaper. Even though the casino is nice and well laid out, you have to contend with their ongoing identity crisis though, which in my opinion makes the whole place seem ugly. FYI they have a Krispy Kreme Donuts, Ben and Jerry's and Starbucks in there at the tram station between The Mirage and TI (more in TI itself really).

Paris can sometimes have good rates and it has just as good of a location as The Mirage or Caesars. The casino itself is so-so, but the rooms are nice and the beds are surprisingly comfy for standard issue fare. Serious lack of good food inside the property though.

MGM is just plain huge, but it has a lot to offer. It's location is well away from the center strip - but the Las Vegas monorail that is based there can get you close to anywhere (just about) that you'll wanna go. Tons of great food: Emeril's Fish House, Sea Blue, Joel Robuchon, Shibuya, Craftsteak, NobHill, Fiamma, Pucks, Pearl. All of those are quite pricey - but hey inside the MGM they even have a food court with Nathan's, McD's and others. Oh and Ka rocks if your into that whoole Circque business. MGM Sky lofts which is part of MGM, like the Signature, is nicer and a bit more out of the way as well as expensive.

Best places for a good bite without breaking the bank is the Burger Bar (in the mall that bridges Mandalay Bay and The Luxur. It helps to not be a vegatarian though. Also the Pink Taco in The Hard Rock serves some tastey tex-mex at a nice price.

I'll stop with those - but I've stayed at every property except Hooters, Rio, Tropicana and Planet Hollywood, so feel free to ask me anything.

Palms is aimed at the 21 - 35 crowd that parties to no end. And they have The Pearl now. I wanna stay at The Wynn again so beautiful!!!. I just need a west facing room this time so I can see the strip at night. I hate the "inclinators" at the Luxor. If you're very drunk (I wasn't) or if you're prone to motion sickness (I am) the damn things will make you sick. If you stand facing the door, you're going sideways, so I had to position myself against the side wall that had me going up and down to make it bearable. Plus the pyramid rooms are loud and a wee bit worn and shabby.

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to - I've only ever given my credit card number as guarantee for a room at any hotel where you're free to cancel upto 24 hrs before arrival.

The only time I've had to put down monetary deposits (which were later returned) were for vacation condo rentals. Never for a hotel.

Are you only looking to stay in one of the major hotels? If you want something a little cheaper but still decent check into some of the smaller, off-strip hotels. Thats probably what I'll be doing for Vegoose. Remember, you can always walk or take a cab to the bigger ones if you want to gamble or drink there.

I got a room at the Mirage for when I'm there over Christmas. With them, you pay the first night's room charge in advance as a deposit. To my knowledge, this is only refunded if you don't end up using the hotel room and cancel at least 48 hours prior to your expected arrival. I don't think you get any of the deposit back otherwise, but you aren't double-charged for it either. I have one less night to pay for now.

I would say no.

Palms is fun - but you get a lot more shallow types looking to get drunk and laid at the same time - it's one party away from frat boy / dumb blonde central. I actually think it's so-so, unless you have the thousands to plunk down on a mack daddy suite.

I prefer the Wynn - it kicks on all sorts of levels - but appeals to a older crowd. And is usually a lot more $.

If you like the 25-35 party scene - then say you can't beat The Hard Rock. Esp. on Sundays for their infamous pool parties called Rehab.

Sorry I was away, I am back now.

Luxor is good for the price. The rooms are nothing great, but nothing that would make you regret it. The casino is kinda lame, and after the intial appeal of the pyramid shape - it gets old. Getting cabs there is (for some reason) a pain in the ass. Feast or famine.

5 people is going to be crammed for most standard rooms in Vegas - except maybe The Mirage and Caesars, as their rooms are a bit bigger (we've done 4 in a room which was fine at both)

Luxor's pool set up is silly and the tables are always over-crowded, feels like they work with a short staff. They do have a decent food court - which makes for much needed cheap eats from time to time.

You are just a tram ride away from the Mandalay Bay. However at least a 20 minute walk to the center of the strip though.

TI and Luxor are usally kinda close in price - if that's the case - go with TI - you'll be closer to Vegoose and the better parts of the strip. Plus super close to the two very nice shopping destinations (Forum Shops and Fashion)

Beds are better at TI

Oh and don't forget the $1 blackjack tables at Slots of Fun (in front of Circus Circus) also much closer to TI.

Yeah we realize Delta.

So do you suggest the Sam Boyd stadium hotel (that doesn't exsist)? You fuck, nothing is close.

Gambling IS good at the Hard Rock, it's good wherever you are (if you are there to have fun doing it). The table amounts are decent and the casino is very clean, loud, and offers multiple games for both the beginner and "pro" gambler alike.

And this post was about hotels, not the location of Sam Boyd vs said hotels. We already know all this shit. I think some Vegoose people will be spending plenty of time on the strip as well as the concert, don't you? Stupid asshole.

Fuck you and your posts - Delta you are forever a shithead - Mr. negative, annoying poster, you never have offered anything to this board other than insults, scalping and arguements, how the holy hell did you get back on here, I'll never know.

Nice Arcade Fire poster auction on ebay as well - you fucker, get a real job already.

i stayed at the luxor and i liked it. there was a big group of us in two rooms next to each other. one of the idiots in the room next to us did too much coke. i wasn't around for all this because i hate the stuff, but apparently when they called for help, a medical person from the hotel staff came up and calmed them down and they didn't kick them up. so if you're into partying hard, don't worry, you'll be ok i guess, lol.

the inclinators didn't bother me. you can't see out them, so it's not really that strange, IMO. i also liked the casino. the luxor and excalibur have these blackjack machines that were really awesome, not like the normal blackjack machines. but i forget what they were called.

i also enjoyed the flamingo for a cheap hotel. they have the $13 champagne brunch (or at least they did in 2004). it was a pretty central location. and you can see penguins ;)

if only my girlfriend still worked for the four seasons. they own part of the mandalay bay and that was the shit. the pool area was awesome, but i didn't get to swim.

Also, I'm fairly certain you'll be quite assed out each night when you're trying to get a cab back to the strip. Just saying.

Look at the restaurants in the Cosmopolitan - the third floor has about 6 great places on it, steaks, french, italian, sushi, and my favorite, JALEO, a crazy good tapas place that is fantastic for groups. Also, the Chandelier is a great place for before or after dinner cocktails.
http://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/taste/restaurant-collection/jaleo.aspx

I also really like Bouchon in the Palazzo. They have good big chilled seafood appetizer racks good for a bunch of people (lobster, crab claws, mussels, oysters, shrimp) - it's $100 or so but good for 6-8 people. i also had the lamb there and it was amazing.
http://www.palazzo.com/Las-Vegas-Restaurants/Fine-Dining/Bouchon/

9ine at the Palms is AMAZING. You're gonna pay $60 for a bone-in filet but you might have an orgasm from it too. After you've dropped enough money ask them to give you VIP access to the Playboy club - they will, and it's swanky up there.
http://www.palms.com/dining/las-vegas-n9ne-steakhouse/

Voodoo at the top of the Rio is really, really good. pretty sure I had steak there too. Vegas is a great steak town. Plus you get to walk right outside to their rooftop nightclub. The section right next to the restaurant itself is not loud and dancey, more like a huge patio. You can walk up more flight for the dancing. the patio itself has a CRAZY view, great for a drink afetr dinner.
http://www.riolasvegas.com/casinos/rio/restaurants-dining/voodoo-steak-detail.html

I'm not a huge Thai food person, but lemon Grass in Aria was very good. Great cocktails, chicken satay was good, spicy soup was amazing, and I know I had something with peanut sauce that was great.
http://www.arialasvegas.com/dining/casual-dining.aspx

If you want sushi, Yellowtail at the Bellagio is soooo good. Some of the most overpriced sushi I've ever had, but the fish is great and they offer some really interesting stuff. Monkfish liver was exquisite.

Texas De Brazil. It's on Las Vegas Blvd at a shopping mall called town square. It's probably about 3 miles south of the strip. It's basically an all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse where they carve the meat off the skewers right on to your plate. They also have what appears to be a giant wine selection (I didn't order any drinks but they have a giant wine cellar we sat next to). It's really great food at around $50 a head. Granted it's not convenient for any other pre/post dinner activities you might be planning but worth checking out.

Yeah, the Trump isn't exactly the ideal place to stay for 20 year olds. It could be nice if you keep some champagne on ice for your late night shenanigans in the bath tub. I suggest heading over to the Cosmopolitan and the Hard Rock. Try to get into both of their pools and hang out in their casinos (bars, clubs, restaurants). There will be lots of people your age around those two spots. Also, the Wynn and the Encore(across the street from the Trump) have some clubs and pool parties that should be poppin off.

Everything is worth checking out, if you haven't been. You could go to one of the fantastic buffets (depending on the hours) at Paris or Wynn or whatever, or to Gordon Ramsay Steak if your budget supports it and you like that crazy guy. Their sticky toffee pudding is worth its weight in gold.

There are a ton of "experience" things that run $30 or so, there's a Titanic exhibit that's pretty interesting, a CSI thing that's apparently not great, and lots of matinee shows if you're into that sort of thing (magic shows and the like). There are also a couple gigantic high-end shopping centers than make killing time extremely easy. You could spend an hour or two in the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace and then finish up with a great dessert (frozen hot chocolate?) at Serendipity 3 just outside. Tons to consider in Vegas.

It's Vegas - everything is cool.

You actually weren't late. My trip got postponed to Monday. Thanks. Though, I have to say, I'm definitely not a Vegas person. Think this was my first time back in 5 or 6 years. I spent less than 12 hours in Vegas and I'm not at all upset about being home again.

Just ended my work trip and I had to be the last one to leave the hotel. Got a few hours to kill. Restaurant recommendations in one of the strip hotels? Something moderately priced (say under $60/person). I've already had my high-end fine dining experiences for this trip.

You have a ton of options for under $60 per person. If you like beer and burgers go to Holsteins at the Cosmo.

Ooh. I didn't get to check out the Cosmopolitan. Any other restaurants in that hotel or nearby?

Oh, I might have to skip the hotels. Just got reminded that "the best Thai food in the US" is at Lotus of Siam.

Alright… who's been to Vegas lately?
We're staying at the Luxor - anyone stayed there recently & have any good/bad experiences or recommendations?

Also…. Anyone ever eaten at Hash House A Go Go?
The menu looks killer….

STK, Scarpetta, Comme Ca, D.O.C.G., Blue Ribbon Sushi, and the no name pizza joint are ALL at The Cosmo. Don't eat at any other hotel if you can help it, try staying there too, the rooms as well as the service are fantastic.

If you are looking for a good meal on the cheap try Bachi Burger... It's the best burger in the entire state of Nevada.

Hash House A Go Go is amazing. My favorite is the Corned Beef Hash but everything is very good. Also super unhealthy but if you are doing a Vegas trip I'm not sure counting calories is on the agenda.

I have never actually stayed at the Luxor but been in it a lot of times. It's an older place obviously so it's not as nice as it once was considered but I know a few people that when they go it's the only place they stay at and they frequent Vegas multiple times a year. Plus if you are drunk in a cab you can just make a triangle with your hands and the cab driver will get it.

My fiance is a total Corned Beef Hash snob. You think they make it from scratch?

And calories…. this will be my last and only no fucks given weekend until Coachella.
So I'm looking forward to it that much more. :)

My guess is everything is made from scratch. I think they are to popular and famous of a place to not make everything from scratch.

Yes, hash House is amazing. The portions are big enough in most items for 2 people to share.

And agreed with ThomThom, everything about the Cosmo is incredible. my favorite hotel by far. i haven't stayed there yet though, it's just a bit too pricey for me.

Egg Works is too far for most tourists.

They should go to "Egg and I", which is owned by the same guy and very similar. It's at 4533 W Sahara Ave, and while not walking distance from the strip, is very reasonable driving distance. Take I-15 north to Sahara, travel west, and you'll get there fairly soon. It's in a strip mall.

Open until 2pm or 3pm, I forget.

I did play poker against the owner once (an older guy, probably in his 60s), and he was pleasant enough until I put a bad beat on him. Then he got very grouchy with me. But it was a $100/$200 game, so the pot he lost (I think about $2000) would have bought a lot of eggs.

If your Luxor room is in the pyramid, those "inclinators" will kill you if you are drunk and/or prone to motion sickness. Don't face the doors; stand with your back to one of the side walls so that you're moving forward, not sideways. Just sayin'.

Many of times I have crawled from the elevator to my room at the Luxor. Drunk and sober.

Yeah those inclined rooms are no fucking joke if you're on copious amounts of drugs.

I meant one of their locations. Either Egg and I or EggWorks in Green Valley.

Hash House and Peppermill. Two places in Vegas to eat. Ever. Anything. Anytime.

My go-to divey/off the beaten path joints:

Pho Kim Long - 24 hour pho/Vietnamese/Chinese food.
Aloha Kitchen - Hawaiian BBQ. Skip everything and just have the adobo fried rice. Amazing. Loco moco isn't bad either.
Tacos El Gordo - solid taqueria. El pastor is awesome, but enjoy lengua/cabeza/etc.

Some of my fav spots:

Lotus of Siam - good Thai food, Vegas staple. call ahead because they book up quick.
Komol - across the parking lot from Lotus. Where I go when Lotus is busy. Fucking delicious Thai as well
Weiss Deli - great Jewish deli near the airport
Piero's - OG Vegas mafia spot... great Italian. expensive tho
DW Bistro - imo, the best food in Vegas, but nowhere near the strip. Amazing Jamaican/Southwest dishes. Unreal brunch on Sundays
Cathay House - one of the better Dim Sum places in Chinatown although there are a lot of good spots. Cathay House serves food until 5am tho

Another vote for Peppermill and also Dupar's. Dupar's makes everything home made including a fresh baker with amazing pies. There is usually a wait at the Hash House on the strip to avoid a line hit up the hash house on Fremont.

Seen a lot of reviews / pictures for this place… I LOVE PHO!
So I'm stoked to see there's a good place out there should the craving arise.

A few friends have told me this…. May have to ask for a tower upgrade to avoid this…
My hangovers aren't the nicest & this just sound horrendous.
