Talk about the genius-ness that is the non-Anime Adult Swim lineup. I will get us started off nicely here:

Brand new 90 minute Futurama direct-to-video movie in November! (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7775) First of four of these planned.

I like that show Drawn Together. Is it coming back? The combination of random characters makes for a weird combination. I also liked the Boondocks for all of the political rantings against the mainstream establishment. I wonder know how the show will deal with a black president.

There are a couple anime adult swim series that I like, but make no mistake it is all about

Harvey Birdman! Respect for 12 oz mouse, venture brothers, moral oral (amazing show), robot chicken, the aquateens and more so much more...

Ren and Stimpy has got to be one of the weirdest cartoons out there. I used to watch it with my daughter on Nickelodeon (on Nick at Nite). (I am not sure how they got away with aiming this at children.) I think I've seen every episode several times. Would love to see it revived.

I guess there were several video games also; Veediots was pretty good.

its hard to make it through an entire show of this (xavier renegade angel), but its pretty enjoyable in small doses. makes you think you're losing your mind.

we had some kind of adult swim fair set up in the middle of our campus a month ago - i came away with a bird beak and a snake hand puppet and was gonna be xavier for halloween.. and i could've gotten away with it if it wasn't for xavier's meddling reverse knee bend!

Venture Brothers is the best thing on Adult Swim right now.

And how! Even my girlfriend is as obsessed with Venture Bros. as I am. Hell, even her mom watched (and enjoyed) some episodes with us.

I wanted to be a Monarch Henchman for Halloween this year but ran out of time. Opted for Robot Jemaine which was easy and quick.

Oh crap, I almost forgot I was Frylock for Halloween in '03.

Venture Bros. is one of the best things to come out on TV in years and years and years. The plot, characters, jokes, animation, backstory, nuances, etc. are all top notch.

Archie Bunker
11-21-2008, 06:47 AM
I agree about Venture Bros. It's highly underrated and is one of the best shows Adult Swim has to offer.

I'm not a big Metalocalypse fan, which is too bad because I liked Brendan Small's work on "Home Movies" earlier this decade, which I thought was excellent.

Robot Chicken can be occasionally amusing, but for the most part it thinks it's a lot funnier than it is.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force has its moments, but it can get a bit repetitive after awhile.

I thought I'd hate the Boondocks because creator Aaron Macgruder is a white-hating pinko, but the show is actually funny and is as critical of black culture as it is of white culture.

Family Guy has been better than it's been given credit for. It was a little better prior to its 2005 comeback, but there hasn't been a big dropoff in quality. I also like American Dad, though I agree it is still inferior to Family Guy.

Futurama's two DVD releases so far have been a disappointment. The first movie was okay (but not great), while the second pretty much sucked. The biggest problem here is the fact that the new characters being introduced aren't funny or interesting, and the story lines are flat. There were so many brilliant and creative "side" characters in the original series -- Lrrr (from Omnicron Persei 8), Zap Branigan, Amy Wong's parents, the mutants, Calculon, etc. We see no such creativity in the new DVDs. Hopefully the third installment will be better.

Moral Orel tries too hard to be offensive and isn't actually all that funny.

I wish "Mission Hill" had done better in 2000 when it aired. Only 13 episodes were made, but the show was really entertaining and had surprising depth to it. "Oblongs" was also good, and suffered a similar fate.

There was not a cable edition.

Futurama ran on Adult Swim after it had been canceled by FOX, and they did not make any new episodes until the 2008 DVDs came out.

Spike TV did a few years ago and it was awful IMO. They tried way to hard too make it "dirty". And it didn't even have Billy West.

I love Adult Swim because their shows are completely fucking insane. They've got the balls to air absolutely everything. Has anyone seen Xavier: Renegade Angel? Not one sentence uttered throughout the entire show makes any goddamn sense but there are some really funny quotes. It seriously sounds like they took actors, told them to say a bunch of lines into a mic, and then cut up all the dialog and rearranged it to form bizarre, nonsensical phrases. Really weird show.

Tim and Eric wins for the craziest shit ever though. And the whole public access TV theme is really classy.

I saw two episodes and in one episode they highlighted sulfer and in the other they highlighted music. They would perform these outrageous experiments that made no sense at all and come up with hilarious conclusions about what the "results" of the experiment meant. Both ancient reruns of WB shows.

I will admit, a lot of the new shows aren't doing much for me, especially Superjail. Robot Chicken has gone downhill fast, but I still watch. Xavier is cool, but I often don't have the patience. I still watch ATHF, but new eps are so rare.

Finally caught up on Venture Bros.. Watched all of season 3 on DVD. It's cool they released it all uncensored, but holy fuck is there a lot of cartoon wang on this show. Watched the new episode on the Adult Swim site too. Crazy shit. They really pack in a lot of exposition in their season premiers. I'm so used to TV shows not taking any chances with progressing their stories forward significantly that when Venture Bros. throws out like ten batshit insane developments all at once, I go into "this has to be a dream/fantasy/alternate universe" mode. But it's not, which is one of the many, many reason I love this show so damned much.

That first season of Sealab is pretty much the best thing ever featured on Adult Swim. The 2nd and 3rd seasons are good, but I think they veer off course from the brilliance of season 1 a little. The 4th season doesn't feature Captain Murphy, as the voice actor died, so it suffers a little.

Dont get me wrong, I love Captain Murphy but Tornado Shanks is my boy. Sealab maintained its great quality until the very last episode, just like Harvey Birdman.

that last episode of harvey was great

That first season of Sealab is pretty much the best thing ever featured on Adult Swim. The 2nd and 3rd seasons are good, but I think they veer off course from the brilliance of season 1 a little. The 4th season doesn't feature Captain Murphy, as the voice actor died, so it suffers a little.

2nd and 3rd seasons are the best. 1st is funny and all but it didn't have the totally out there storylines and the production values. Mostly it just had a lot of dialogue.

Yeah, obviously the first season was mostly just scenes from the original Sealab show overdubbed, but I kind of enjoyed that aspect of it. The 2nd and 3rd season were for the most part great, even excellent at times, but it was a lot more out there for me than season 1.

Bizarro, I love you. Bizarro.

I got introduced to Sealab on a faceful of amazing acid. The person I was doing it with had the whole show on DVD so we just sat in his living room watching it straight through and laughing so hard I felt bruised all through my face for days afterward. The one line I couldn't stop parroting for months was Bizarro, I love you, Bizarro.

mattpach
05-02-2010, 07:56 PM
The season is not over. The production for the last half of the season is taking way longer than expected, they are moving back to the original writing style and its been really difficult for them. Also the creators scrapped the season finale and are making an hour long special.
It will be back on sometime in August.

It's not even just the name and theme song, it's literally the entire show.

It's kind of what they've been wanting to do for a while.

Why not? I mean if it's just for a season or something... Regardless, I have enough Aqua Teen to last me a life time. I've almost fucking passed out from laughing so damn hard to a lot of their episodes (I have every season on DVD) and I've been watching this shit since the beginning of like the 3rd season. It's my all time favorite Adult Swim show (even though I say Home Movies is), and I trust Matt & Dave.

They don't really have any reason to kid around, but I'm sure it'll be fucking hilarious. That trailer I saw or whatever you want to call it looked pretty fucking funny.

Its different. No more endings in blood bath melees. I dont really know what too think. I love Superjail more than anything so I will have to watch the whole season before I judge. My only fear is that it will turn into too much of a soap opera (Venture Bros). Jason Publik and the other dude are wayyyy too into character development.

Well I'm all for the new direction of ATHF because the last season I saw (Season 7) wasn't all that good.

BTW my favorite ATHF episode is Dumber Days, where Meatwad loses his brain and then gets a new one which makes him super smart.

luckyface
04-26-2011, 07:12 PM
I used to love and watch ATHF religiously. I stopped watching the last couple of years Aqua Teen when every episode resulted in someone brutally killed or gored or something. I have no problem with it every now and then, but when that is the only premise to elicit laughs, it gets old. I welcome a change of pace.

04-27-2011, 12:04 AM
I love Superjail, love it. But this new season just isn't doing it for me. It's too dialogue and character-driven now, and the show's style has lost the edge. It feels, I don't know, grounded.

It is most likely the new studio doing it (the old studio is doing Ugly Americans for Comedy Central now), combined with the Venture Bros. guy who joined the staff.

I'll still give it a decent shot. I'm willing to be swayed, and Superjail 2.0 is still better than no Superjail at all.
