Thanks Ron and Fickle. It seems like I have lots of options when it comes to accomodations.

I have a question though... it says this takes place at a stadium, is the main venue inside the stadium, and there are other stages outside of it? Or is it just in the general area of the stadium and all the stages are outside and you can go between them in a Coachella-esque type fashion?

Also, the Vegoose at night, will those performers also perform at the Vegoose main event? Or just at nigt?

Okay, so through my incredible powers of deduction I found out that the act my friend was keeping so hush-hush is...

Black Star.

Yeah, I was hoping for a better rock act myself, but in all fairness Mos and Talib do put on a legendary show--for hip-hop.

Anyways, she said it's looking like her half of the pairing probably isn't going to do it, so it's a false boner anyway.

i can write them up again, but if you go to the start of this thread, you probably will get most of the answers you need ... and here is the vegoose board thread ... some coachella people there already ..http://infogoose.proboards46.com/index.cgi.

Um, Mos is fucking awesome, like not just as a rapper but as a person. That man is cooler than all shit, he's like the James Bond of rap, I'm not kidding.

But when was even the last time Black Star played together? Shit, they only recorded one real album back in 98, right? And now they both have really successful solo careers, so they may just not feel the need to bother. It would be sweet, though.

Still, I really wish it was somebody else, though I'm not sure who exactly. Besides Bjork. Or Oasis. Or Pixies. Or NIN. Basically everyone who played Coachella BEFORE I started going.

Are you insane? '05 was the most temperate Coachella I've been to: in the 80's all weekend and slightly breezy.

RotationSlimWang
07-25-2007, 02:29 PM
Um, Daft isn't going to be headlining whatever the main stage is. They'll be headlining in the electronic tent. So Rage will probably close out whatever Vegoose's "main stage" is on Sunday, and as far as I'm concerned they still need a Saturday headliner. Hopefully a sweet one, with Daft Punk coming on just after their set ends.

After all, this is fucking Vegas, right? There's no reason they can't have Daft playing until 2 am there, right? Fucking A they better.

breakjaw

I'm sure it's still being negotiated between Voodoo and Vegoose which day they will play where.I'm sure both would prefer them to play Sunday, considering how trashed everything is after they play.Logistically,it would make more sense for them to play Voodoo first, because they would then gain some time flying west, instead of losing it flying east.

There HAS to be another rock headliner added. It's already weighed down with more notable hip-hop acts than rock acts, and the fact that they were trying to get Black Star into the mix as well makes me think that they're probably going for something close to a 50-50 mix between big acts (excluding the dance tent). But Muse still isn't a headliner here, at least not for a festival that's pulling off Daft Punk and Rage (even though Rage sucks, but still a huge draw). There must be something in the works for a big rock headliner on whatever day Rage isn't headlining.

Yes, there is an electronic tent. And no, Daft Punk is still not a headliner on the level of Rage. They just aren't. Not that many people were into Daft Punk back in the day, and even now they're only really known to those who are either (a) into EDM or (b) stay really on top of the festival scene.

EVERYONE asked about Rage at Coachella. Half the people I tried to convince to see Daft Punk had no idea what I was talking about or why they should go.

and yeah, Vegoose has always been open for taping (just like Bonnaroo), which makes sense since it's the same promoters as Bonnaroo. But yeah, from the last two years, I got bootlegs of Arcade Fire, the Flaming Lips, Ween, Talib Kweli, Spoon, Sleater-Kinney, and the Decemberists I think. Almost all the big names will be taped. Just check bt.etree.org after the show, recordings pop up all the time.

silversun pickups

bigger bands?
beastie boys (instrumental maybe)
tool (nope)
white stripes ( would love it but doubtful)

not enough people are hyped up for muse...supre's the only hardcore one but everyone else should be just as excited to see them as atleast rage

It might be because it's at the end of their tour. Coachella is usually at the beginning of people's tours. I'm a Muse fanatic, but I'm seeing them headline a month before this, so Vegoose is just a bonus show.

It's funny, with Muse, it's always "best band in the world" or "who?" I don't get why they aren't huge here. I think it's a good sign they are touring 5000+ venues in the US this year instead of large clubs. Still, they headlined Wembly Stadium TWO nights in a row a few months ago.

the only advantage i know of, and i am trusting the site is: when you buy tics for both days, you get a code (in the future) so you get first shot at late night tics ... what the site says is: the earlier you buy tics, the earlier you can buy late night ... both years though, i never had a hard time getting late night the first day they went on sale ... i have only scalped tics two times, and both times it really wasnt my idea .... but for vegoose, i got 5th row center for Dave Matthews .. well some dude was getting married and begged me to sell him my tics ... i paid about 125 for two and he gave me 6 or 8 hundred, i forget now ... so with that little code, and some luck, i make 675 bucks and just missed one show .. so it goes ... so does it matter ... probably not .. cr****

Hotel alert...this place doesn't show up on a lot of hotel searches.

http://www.sienasuiteshotel.com/ (http://www.sienasuiteshotel.com)

Supposedly within walking distance of stadium...like a mile or less.

I got it through Hotels.com. $106 Friday & Saturday, $79 on Sunday. It's only a couple years old, and the rooms have kitchens. And it's cancellable up until Thursday afternoon, so you can always change your mind later.

The cheapest, closest, newest, non-filthy place seems to be Arizona Charlies Boulder. I've seen it as cheap as $53 average nightly for the weekend. Like $66 Fri-Sat and $36 Sunday. It's about 5 miles up Boulder Highway.

This is a good, amusing site when you're comparing Vegas bargains

The Pearl is insanely nice, I will post the one photo I have of it later. Its a small floor area then its all seating, and like you said it can be shrunk down to 1100 or full capacity of 2300. Its supposed to sound incredible in there since its all state of the art and set up to record a live album if the artist who is performing wishes to do so.

I think they are amazing, and as of right now at this point they are the best live band touring pretty much. The production, the songs, and the sound just are very hard to compare to somebody else right now. Alright back to work.

Sunset is like $129 that weekend. Boulder Station and Fiesta Henderson are also around that price.

Arizona Charlie's Boulder is the only place in the area that seems not to have noticed there's an event nearby.

The stadium IS the main stage. Everything else is outside the stadium in a 30 acre field. Actually, last year sales were soft and they didn't even use the stadium.

If it's the place I'm thinking of (used to be called Silver Bowl?), it's not even really a stadium. More like a really big high school football field. That was 20 years ago though, I could be wrong.

so anybody got any more good deal on hotels they want to share? thats my next credit card dent.

I've got friends who swear by the El Cortez, but I've never been. It's $77 average for the weekend for a tower room. (Non-tower rooms are ancient but clean supposedly, but Tower is supposed to be pretty nice.)

It's downtown, maybe a block from that nutty covered area.

There's no way you're going to find much of a bargain on the strip on Halloween weekend. One possibility- The New Frontier. Stayed there a few years back for $35 and expected it to be nasty, but it was pretty good for the money. I think it's lined up for demolition, though. It's right by Wynn, Treasure Island, ect. I also stayed at the Westin on Flamingo a few months ago...got it for $65 on a weekend. It's actually really nice...it's about a half block from Ballys and Bellagio.

If money's no object, go for Mandalay Bay or Wynn. Better yet, the stupidly named "THEHotel at Mandalay Bay" has the most comfy beds I've ever slept in, which is nice after a long day.

Sam Boyd's Stadium...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f9/Sam_Boyd_Stadium.jpg/300px-Sam_Boyd_Stadium.jpg

Looks like it's changed a little since I've been there, but it's still kind of open on one end, which is what I remembered.

Capacity is 36,000 which is a lot smaller than most football stadiums I've been to.

One bad thing...it's Turf.

Siena hotel booked. Even with a 2 room suite , it's a pretty great deal at $149. Sure it won't be close to the afterparties, but nothing will beat being right there in the morning when the festival opens (looks like it's about a half mile away). Getting to and from Coachella always adds around 3 hours per day...

oh.. and is this a gay hotel?

How many times can you say ROCK..ROBOT ROCK in one song?

Oh, by the way, a different hippie douche wished death on me (specifically "I hope you get hit by a semi") for this statement...

Wow, I thought hippies were supposed to be nice. Apparently, they're even more bitter and closed minded than the indie-rock / Pitchfork reader crowd!

I also don't understand the "sellout" comments. This is a pretty eclectic and esoteric lineup. Personally, if I wanted to be a "sellout" as a concert promoter, it seems like the easiest way to do it is stack the deck with the same 10 jam bands and easy listening singer songwriters you all keep asking for, and let the all the unwashed trust fund kids flow in like lemmings.

I've looked at the Vegoose lineup the last two years and just went "Well, not for me, but good for them." I would have never thought to look this year until I heard Muse was coming.

Personally, I'm excited about the lineup as is, but if you add some jam bands, it'd be great to draw the patcholie stank away from Muse.

Never fear...Gogol Bordello brings EVERYONE together. Can't believe no one's mentioned them.

Peace and love, maaaaaan

When you buy a pass, you get a code (or you will later) for a chance to buy night show tix.

Remember, in the past, this was primarily jam bands. The positive way to look at it is "every show is different". The negative way is "jam band fans will watch the same 20 bands over and over.

I could see the appeal of wanting to see your favorite in a more intimate setting. Maybe even skipping them at the fest in favor of someone else, because you know you're going to be upclose with them later.

The other point is that it can run until 3am or whatever. Maybe later...these jam bands will play 4 or 5 hours if you let them. but the festival limits them to a couple hours.

I think the name is a bit confusing..."Vegoose At Night". It should be "LATE Night." I've also seen reference to the "daytime portion" of the fest. But that time of year, thanks to DST, Vegas gets dark at 5pm or so. So you've got a solid 5 or 6 hours of dark time at the main fest.

that pretty much sums it up ...now at vegoose, most any show during the day, you can get right to the front, but its nice sometimes after a long day at a fest, to be in a smaller room, have somewhat cheaper drinks, and party till 300 in the morn ... we saw ween and the hardrock last year i think it was, and the show was different then the day show ... and again, not all late night artists play the fest ... most do, with some exceptions ... its just a good time no matter how you look at it ... i only have two grrrrr's about coachella, and one of them is , the show is over too early ... at the roo, its sunrise, at vegoose, well you get might close to sunrise ... cr****

How do these Vegoose at night shows work? I hear you have to buy a Vegoose ticket in order to get into these shows? That sounds silly because how many people are going to want to see the same band twice? I would, for Daft Punk, but yeah...

No as far as I know they are sold separately, if you buy a 2 days vegoose pass then you get first pick at them though..

wow i went over to the myspace vegoose page and the hippies are not happy! honestly i looked at the lineup and maybe they were paying attention to some of us cuz about 5 bands i wanted at coachella are now at vegosse so im there!

also, i laugh at the jam band crowd and how they say music is their life! dude music is in everyone's life, i for one sacrificed many extra things just to go to concerts so i love music and i still cant stand jam bands ok? sorry... and in all honesty there is absolutely no difference in jam bands and electronica music. it all goes with a jam influence of moving the crowd. it all has its greatness in there and honestly both forms bore me after a hr, but the hr is always fun. so let vegoose learn from coachella, build a strong lineup so it just get me more pumped for coachella 08! vegoose is stepping up. time for goldenvoice to take it to the next level!! :)

Closed minded hippies grrrrrrrr … I am a hippie and I will “battle” you concert for diverse concert and see who is closed minded ….

Whoa...slow down!

The fact is, the Vegoose Myspace (which is the defacto message board, because they don't seem to have one.) was swamped with hundreds of messages to the effect of "This line-up sucks. No one will go. Just cancel it. Where's Widespread Panic? There are no headliners."

AND when a few people tried to post something positive about the lineup, they were attacked. Admittedly, I'm pretty snarky, but most of them were along the lines of "This looks great!" Those people were called idiots. My comment, aside from the "patchollie stank" comment was pretty objective- I had death wished on me.

Realistically, 90% of the so-called hippies are probably cool people. But right now, the "Vegoose Community" is being represented by, well, close minded hippies. And that's being kind. "Childish assholes" is more accurate.

dont get me wrong i saw the grateful dead and although i really am not a fan i enjoyed the experience of seeing the dead cuz it was more of a spectacle and to this day with phish and widespread panic, etc, the culture of hippies is still looking for a champion and when vegoose initially started, they really embraced the jam bands. but it doesnt amount to ticket sales or interest other than the diehards. this festival is still fresh, only the 3rd one so it doesnt have the tradition yet like lollapalooza, bonnarooo or our beloved coachella, but its trying and i think it is making great strides. i mean come one, they combined rage with daft punk! brought in the legends of iggy and the stooges, got prog metal rockers qotsa and mastodon which would make metallica and tool proud. they got some hip hop legends in cypress hill, public enemy, and ghostface killah. and they still got moe. and some other jam bands. this to me is one of the most diverse lineups i have ever seen and im impressed. they were smart to get rage because at least this year rage is trying to cover all parts of the country with one-off concerts. they got daft punk cuz they are huge in so cal and will sell tickets. daft punk is creating almost a hippie vibe in regards to loyalty. they got muse which is a monster in england and that will attract the foreign market. they got iggy which is great for nostaligia. and they still got alot of bands which makes the lineup diverse, current, and popular. good job to the promoters of vegoose and to the hippies: hey if u dont like, just more room for the coachella people and the electro hippies! :)

M Sparks

I do want to add something about the supposed diversity of the jam band scene. I live in a small town where the "hippie" scene is the ONLY scene. (There's a tiny underage punk scene too, but that's about it.)

YES there is a lot of musical diversity WITHIN that scene. It encompasses rock, blues, bluegrass, lite pop (Jack Johnson? Really?), even a little hip hop. I've seen mentions of the "electronic hippie" scene, but that hasn't made it here yet.

But, the actual "list" of artists who fit into the scene is relatively small. And to those of us on the outside, it seems kind of arbitrary. There are some bands on the list I really enjoy, and some I can't stand. (Which supports the claim of diversity.)

What irritates ME is the scene's total inability to support any live music that's not on this arbitrary list. A few years ago, Babyland was playing at a local bar on a Saturday night, for FREE. I started recruiting people from my workplace to go, most of which probably wouldn't have known them, or be interested in their style.

The people that came along all had a great time. I mean, they put on an insane show, and it was FREE. I doubt most of them would want to listen to their CDs...hell, I can't stand them on CD most of the time. But everyone agreed it was a great show.

But there were a couple of guys who go to shows 2 or 3 nights a WEEK. They wanted nothing to do with it. They constantly rearrange their work schedule so they can see Dark Star Orchestra for the 150th time (It's a frickin' cover band, right?) But they'd rather stay home than go see a FREE show that wasn't "on the list".

Now, that's just a personal story, and Babyland certainly isn't an easy band to grasp musically. But what happens is, we just plain can't get shows that aren't "on the list". We have 1 major venue here- holds about 1000. The promoters don't want to risk booking a show that might only pull 300-500 people because they KNOW Ozomatli or Spearhead or one of the other bands "on the list" can sell out a show 5 or 6 times a year. (And I like both of those bands. But I'm not shelling out $25 every other weekend to see them.)

In my town's case, the jam band scene SUPRESSES musical diversity. The promoters cater to the 2 or 3,000 people who will show up week after week after week to see the same bands over and over and over. And rightly so...it's simple economics. But why can't those people who claim "music is my life" show up for anything not sanctioned by Jambase? I mean, Little Feat? C'mon. Little Feat is still a major draw in this town. TRY SOMETHING NEW!

I'm exaggerating a little- we do get other types of shows here and there. I actually wind up going to shows I don't really care about, just because I feel I need to cast a vote for "something different". I'm still guilty I didn't go see Social Distortion last May, even though I haven't listened to them in 15 years.

We're actually getting The Rentals this September, and I'm really worried it's either going to get cancelled, or have such a poor turnout that the promoters kill other potential shows that aren't "on the list."

I love this lineup.

But Im caught in a dilemma...

At the end of September I was planning on flying out to LA for Nocturnal Wonderland to see my favorite group ever for the first time, The Chemical Brothers. I've been a long time forumer on The Chemical Brothers forum and have created friendships over the years with some people that live in the LA area, so it would be nice to finally meet them. However, The Chemical Brothers have yet to announce a complete US tour yet, which probably include Chicago (where I live). But still wont be the same without my fellow forumer friends along with some new coachella forum friends that will also be at Nocturnal Wonderland (Dylan and Andy, Holla!).

Then I have Vegoose which is just AWESOME. And overall is better value money wise.

But, I only have money for one.

I dont know which one to choose :( How, I wish I could do both.

Its Vegas, planning a trip to Vegas can be costly. Coachella doesnt put such a dent in your wallet compard to what Vegoose will. You need to account for anyone over 21 going to gamble and drinking like a fish so their wallets will get destroyed in the process. And yeah, I doubt the locals really will go crazy for this as it is, almost any show there is comprised of about %40 out of town people. I think the additions are set and they are just going to roll them out step by step to garner their sales. You know they announce something big right before the night shows go on sale.

Vegoose has never ''sold out''. The main festival happens between the stadium and the grounds. There are 4 stages. DP has not been added to the night time shows but it could happen. As of right now I personally think they perform on Saturday with Muse and Rage closes out on Sunday. We'll see what the additions bring so we could figure out who will go where. The day splits will happen in the next couple weeks since they are supposed to put up single day tickets for sale in mid august. You cant really buy single day tickets without knowing who is on the line up each day correct?

KenMixtape
07-26-2007, 11:09 PM
Apparantly, last year they didn't use the stadium due to a decline in attendance, just the grounds to the north of it. Their website doesn't specifically say they're using the stadium this year, but with these headliners I can't see how they couldn't.
It's pretty laughable that the Myspace hippies (the jerky ones) seem to think that the festival will flop, because in all likelihood they have no idea what the draw of Rage and Daft is.

And hippies don't know s**t. They would never pay attention to something like Coachella and see what a big draw it is. He's talking about this Siena Suites place. It's within walking distance. Brand new, right on Boulder Highway.

The only really "scary" motels in Vegas are 1)The Strip a few blocks north of Sahara to a few blocks south of Fremont. and 2)Somewhere around where Boulder Highway runs into Fremont, untill you can see the "Fremont Experience."

Some of the actual "Fremont Experience" hotels are pretty run down, but the area is safe just because it's so crowded and well lit. It's basically like being in a shopping mall.

OK, I'm going to play devils advocate and guess that maybe he was just teasing you about the way you asked the question. Because you didn't ask for the pre-sale info...you asked "how did you get the tickets." Which, obviously, was a pre-sale.

Otherwise "it's back a few pages" would seem like a reasonable response. It's all good...let's just get as many people there as possible and get this thing pumped up over the next few years. There's a lot of potential, I think.

btw evan did you get your tics, i still have a couple of presale codes if you missed them ... yes, vegoose has been fun the first two times ... its so different then most fests (maybe something like sxsw or bumbershoot where you tend to stay in a hotel) but since it is halloween, and vegas, what a fun wild time it is ... even though there may be a few hippies there :) cr****

yeah man, if it's possible just pm them to me. no matter what, presale or no presale i'll get em' tomorrow as soon as they go on sale. i saw daft punk on saturday at the LA sports arena and i can't stress enough to all the people i know to go to vegoose. i'm so pumped for october. considering they just added m.i.a, maybe they'll add some of the ed banger crew, and more specifically Justice.

No.Sometimes the number of tickets allotted for the presale sells out(like say they allotted 3500 or 5000 for the presale, leaving 30,000 left for the general). My strongest advice to you is channel this excitement about going into reserving where you'll stay.Tickets might sell out in a few weeks, but eventually some will be available, either at their site or from desperate people like me that bought tickets without thinking about where they'd stay, how they'd get there, etc.
Reserve a room.

Oh, and of course Daft and Rage.

Go see Gogol no matter what! If you look at old Vegoose line ups, the headliner has a "silent slot." So no one is playing up against them. I am at ease that I wont have to decide between Daft and Gogol or Rage and Gogol. But seriously, I would miss ANY act on there to see them. I really wanted to see Bjork at Coachella. I really did. But after that show, I do not regret my decision for one second.

I saw half of the first song of Bjork and then ran to the Gogol Bordello tent. While we were waiting for Gogol I heard "All Is Full Of Love" resonating into the tent from afar. That was enough for me.Gogol then proceeded to put on one of the 10 best live shows I've seen (and I've seen Bruce in the early '80s,The Clash and U2 at the Us Fest,James Brown,Sugar,Black Flag with Henry,etc.).That was a fucked-up conflict,to be sure, but no regrets on my part.Unless it's Gogol vs. Daft Punk (and surely God is not that cruel) catch Gogol at all costs.

Are you guessing Eurythmics or Marilyn Manson are going to be added?

I was thinking, since its halloween weekend, they need a haloween-ish type act. Like Manson, Rob Zombie or the Cramps. Alice Cooper perhaps?

If not, the Gogol Bordello's on (and off) stage antics will make up for it.

Hell yeah they are! Last time I heard, they played a couple of shows in Germany earlier this year. Lux and Poison Ivy are still going strong.
You can't kill the Cramps.

Ooo, I hadn't thought of Puscifer. That could be very, very possible, although there's also a good chance that Tool's going to come back around for another couple weeks of shows, or at least an LA show for fuck's sake. Also, I'm not sure we can even refer to Puscifer as a "they," it's more of a "he."

rage patton
07-27-2007, 01:44 PM
True. Have Puscifier put on any live shows before? If they have, who does Maynard get to back him up?
But Tool would kick ass at Vegoose. Could you immagine? Running from Daft Punk to Tool? (Assuming they are on different stages.) That would be awesome.

I dont know which one to choose :( How, I wish I could do both.

there is absolutely no way in hell you should choose CM over the Goose. you will regret it for a long time. CM play in LA frequently. the Goose is special this year.

Oh yeah, there's no way a festival with Rage AND Daft Punk AND Muse doesn't sell out.

Second and third that. (The third is from my wife.) We actually did go to see Bjork, left in the 2nd song for Gogol...absolutely no regrets. They are pretty much the reason we are going to Vegoose...my wife heard "Halloween Themed" and "Gogol Bordello". In fact, I don't think she's ever suggested going to a show before, 'cept maybe The Cure.

So my only nightmare scenario is Gogol vs Muse. Which is why I'm still going to go to Muse's Mesa show in September...just in case.

THANK YOU! Thanks for helping me connect two portions of my subconsious!

A couple years ago, Opie And Anthony had a contest for listeners to come up with old-time jingles for the show. One of the most popular entries used this song. It started at the "HUUU!" when there's 2:39 left in the video. Try singing this to the tune...

"It's the Greg...and Tony show
Greg...and Tony show
Greg...and Tony's got
Doc...tor Norton with

Iiiiiiiiiit's...on XM"

And every damn time they would play it...I WOULD SEE THIS STUPID DANCE IN MY HEAD!

Now that I've seen it, I remember that it was also used in the film "Ghost World". But what the hell is it from originally?
