Stratosphere isn't that bad compared to where you could stay like The Wild Wild West or anything in murder's row...

All my whining being done! I'm getting excited for Vegoose and detour.

See you all there. :)

I hope nobody copies my costume.

ok well here is my own little opinion:

i think vegoose is looking to scale down a bit. obviosuly they went all out and then last year it didnt do as well as they wanted to. so they put together a lineup that hopefully wil get them back on track. i think they can get around 40000 to 45000 for the 2 days whichactually is ok. remember vegas is not a place for concerts usually. its a tourist place all the way so for them to get a lineup thats attractive is a tough thing. i think it started as a baby bonnaroo that has developed into a infant coachella. i think this is a good festival if they do it right. scaling down to 27 bands in 2 days and 6 at ngiht shows is not a problem. that is still alot of bands and the lineup itself to me personally is fucking amazing. so im fine with that. i think this is a learning experience for them. they dont have to add more acts with a lineup this strong. im happy with it. :)

Speaking of murderers row and such, does anyone know of a cheaper hotel in Vegas where you won't get raped and murdered? I've never been so I don't know shit about where to stay, and reviews always conveniently leave out this information.

Booums...what's your price range? I can probably help you out, but the affordable places are vanishing quick.

I'm exaggerating about the Strat, but it is right on the edge of the area I wouldn't ever consider staying in- between the north strip and downtown.

OK...cheapest option...Bestwestern.com- Lighthouse Inn & Resort $33 a night. The catch, it's in Boulder City...about 19 miles from the stadium. But the strip is 10 miles anyway...the stadium is in between. If you plan to go party after the show, don't stay here. If you just want to go get some sleep, you can't beat the price.

Hotels.com has the Golden Gate downtown for $91. It's ancient, but it's in the Fremont Experience, so it's safe. It's like sleeping in a shopping mall. You could also go to Hotwire.com- they have a room for $87 that is either the Golden Gate or the El Cortez. The El Cortez is probably nicer than the Golden Gate, but it's a block outside the brightly lit Fremont Experience.

Travelres.com (I've never used this service) has Nevada Palace for $63, which is only 3 miles from the stadium. I can't vouch for that specific block though, and Cheapovegas says it's disgusting.

A better bet on the same website might be the Blair House for $83. I've never heard of this, but it's on Desert Inn Rd close to the strip, which is a decent area. The hotels in that area cater to business travellers. I'm staying right around the corner at the Mardi Gras Inn, but the cheap rooms seem to be gone from that place.

Travelweb.com has the Super 8 on Koval for $95. Again, this is a pretty good area. I stayed at the Westin right around the corner last time I was there.

Travelweb also has Binions Horseshoe downtown for $102. Probably nicer than the Golden Gate and closer to the center of the brightly lit Fremont area. Harrah's bought it recently, but I don't know if they've done any upgrades to it yet.

Fiesta Rancho is also $102 at Hotels.com, but that's way up north...almost as far as Boulder City.

If you can go a little higher...Orbitz still has rooms at Sienna Suites right across from the Stadium for $123. The Orleans is very nice for $129 from Travelworm. And Travelres has a Doubletree out on Warm Springs Rd for $125...out of the way, but a good area. Doubletrees always rule, and they give you fresh baked cookies when you check in.

Hmmm...now I'm thinking about moving to the Doubletree. Anyway, I looked these up with Sidestep.com...there are quite a few more options under $100, but I don't know the areas very well to recommend them for safety.

Where are you finding a $33 a night rate for the Best Western? I went to the site and the AAA rate is $99.

Thanks for the info...I'll look into these. My friend is driving and we are only staying Friday and Saturday night, so we're really just there for the festival, and I guess to look around on Friday.

Oh yeah, I've already been told by ten people to never set foot in downtown Las Vegas.

Never heard of Dean Martin Drive. Doesn't show up on my maps. But I looked at the Motel 6 website, and this appears to be the one on Industrial Rd.

Traffic noise will be bad, but otherwise this seems like a good location. This is basically just on the other side of the freeway from the (back of) The Excalibur. You're just a couple blocks from the Trop/Strip intersection. Industrial Rd (Dean Martin?) used to be a good way to get up and down the west side of the strip without hitting the traffic snarls.

Booums, you might want to check that Motel 6 site. There are 3 locations. One is on Boulder Highway about 5 miles from the venue, There's the one by the freeway Scoop is at, and there's the one across from the MGM Grand.

They are all in the $70s and $80s, and all decent locations. Scoop...the Dean Martin one is probably the worst...you might want to pony up the extra $5 or $6 a night and try one of the others.

With no stadium then it will possibly have more conflict, but less walking distance. Muse probably does the other stage like before Rage or it overlaps a little bit into their set. I wanna see set ties already, you would think they have a brain and post them in the next week or so.

Dude, you are off your fucking rocker if you think Muse and Rage will conflict. If ANYONE at all is gonna conflict with Rage, its Moe. No one else. Muse are either gonna play the mainstage before Rage or the end of the day will look something like this...
Stage 1: Muse [7-8(:30)]
Stage 2: Moe [8-10:30]
Stage 3: Rage [9-10:30(11?)]

And I really want the stadium to be used. For 2 main reasons 1)Daft in the Stadium would be hella sweet. 2)To show all doubters that this Vegoose indded kicks ass. If the stadium is not used, there wil be SO many "I told you so!"'s.

Wheres the beef?

Well, as of right now they are nto saying anythign regarding the stadium being used or not. ''the guys myspace'' seems legit and its not like uber shady so I will go by that, if its 2 stages and a tent you coudl see Muse on the other stage. ill be honest, i thought this lineup would produce 30 to 35 thousand per day. it looks like it will get around 40 thousand for both days. so now this is the second year in a row. answer for the low ticket sales? location, location, location!!

i do agree if this lineup is in new york, or los angeles, it sells big time! so for me the way i look at it is that if they decide to continue to do this festival and have it in vegas, keep it as a scaled down festival as it looks like it has become and make it a music loving environment.

right now they have done this with a lineup that is strong and having it in a location where its about partying and having a adult good time.

so im very excited about but you do have to ask yourself... if you knew that this was the lineup and there were not additions and knew they would sell only 20,000 per day, would you still go to vegas for this festival?

me, i would go and change my mindset to "hey its a reason to go to vegas" instead of like with coachella when i say"its all about the festival"

i think thats how alot of people went into this by saying hey its all about the festival. so when we went into it like that, we are getting a little disappointed that we dont get the full 40 acts and huge crowd. but when i think about as part of the scene, then i actually went into the vegas mode and now am sooooooo looking forward to it. music in the day, partying at night, its gonna be alot of fun... imagine if coachella had the ability to have "coachella at night" shows.

anyways, this is jsut a rant cuz i cant sleep and am listening to stern on sirius so 3 weeks to go people! :)

Woa! What the fuck?

Geez...I didn't know this would start such a controversy/panic!

"The Strip" is Las Vegas Blvd. But Las Vegas Blvd extends well north and south of "The Strip." "The Strip" is, essentially, about 4 miles, from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere.

If you go south of the Mandalay, there are all sorts of areas, good and bad. The Southpoint hotel is down there, and it's very nice. There are suburbanny shopping areas- Home Depots and such. There are also plenty of crapholes.

North of the Stratosphere is an area that I, personally, would not want to stay the night in. It's a connector for the Strip to Downtown- otherwise I wouldn't go there at all. I feel plenty safe driving through it...we're not talking total ghetto. I don't think I would walk through it at night. That's just my opinion.

I have HEARD that the area to the WEST of Stratosphere is quite awful, and that everyone should avoid it.

Chances are, you're not going to be walking anywhere from the Strat anyway. It's too far removed from everything else. If you do walk anywhere other than your car, it will be to the south towards the Sahara, which is fine. The hotel itself should be perfectly safe.

The cheapest place in the heart of the strip by far is Casino Royale and it's not terrible.

Speaking of terrible, Terrible's is pretty cheap too.

Also, Elis Island is okay and it's just off the strip.

Of the big hotels, Orleans isn't bad and often times if you ask they will give you coupon books when you check in that will save tons of money. BOGO buffets, other food, blackjack, slot deals, etc.

The closest casino to stadium is Sam's Town. Oh gawd, it's cheesy. They have this Western themed animatronic laser/fog show with a coyote that shoots lasers out of it's eyes. It takes place on this pond/wooded area/waterfall/rock formation in the center of the casino. They have an amazing deal to stay there on your birthday. It's 40 a night or something.

If you are going to walk from the Statosphere I suggest going the oppositie direction of the main strip along Las Vegas Blvd and go to Olympic gardens. Topless girls on the first floor, stripping guys on the second floor so you can send your girlfriend up there and it's 24 hours!

I've had bad expriences at Circus Circus and Imperial Palace. The cheapest rooms at Circus Circus are in this back bungalow area. It's like being in a white trash parking lot rv park nightmare. It's truly terrifying.

And all of the rooms I have stayed at the Imperial Palace have been on the parking garage. I love hearing fights, breaking glass, sex, screaming, car alarms, and people peeling out all night. Ugh it sucked.

But they cant be dumb enough to have a Muse/Rage conflict. They know all the jam band fans going dont care about Rage, so they will have Moe. closing out the other stage. Matt Belamy is a huge Rage fan, so Im betting he wouldnt want to play against Rage and would do everything in his power to get them to stop it.

Look at the set times for Bonnaroo this year. They did a really good job with the set times. I have faith they will do decent with the Vegoose set times. If it was the ACL/Lolla organizers, I dont think I would even be going to this.

I'll believe it when I see it (though it did come from Superfly's server), but I doubt I can find an extra person to drag along, so I'd be willing to sell it for less than full price. PM me with a bid. I'm not going to do anything until I have all 3 tickets in my hands, though.

I just quickly scanned the Vegoose board and I do kind of agree with one thing is that $150 for 27 bands is a lot of money considering I bought my Coachella ticket last year in the pre sale for $199.

And I got my ticket for Bonnaroo for around that and it included camping.

The one solo Rage show in Wisconsin cost about $80(if you got pit or good seats) Daft Punk was about $65(depending on the state) so thats about right. Also Queens of The Stone Age opened for Rage in Wisconsin, so thats 3 vegoose bands.

Lets be glad we dont live in Austrailia, its costing about $120 a ticket for Daft Punks tour, and it sold out.

I am not pissed off about the price at all. I think the price is pretty reasonable.
What I find unreasonable is the entire handling of this festival. They have been WAY to secretive about everything. We dont even know if the stadium is use right now. According to some random guy on myspace who has picture of Vegoose 2006 being set up, the stadium WONT be in use. But we dont know!

I'm just not going to worry. I'm going to have a good time.

I have a feeling there are no more adds. It's just so late in the game.

And why would they use the stadium if they don't have to?

Rage and Daft went off great at Coachella without a stadium so it should work out.

I'm just concerned about what Rage above was talking about, just how secretive the promoters (AC/Superfly) and how they neglect to keep us informed. That's troublesome to me. This is a very "Customer Service" oriented industry and they just don't seem to care.

I was the one who mentioned the price. The price doesn't bother ME, I was just pointing out that it could be a deterrent to some people who don't overanalyze everything like we do. :)

We know it's a killer lineup, but for someone who's not a music obsessive, they may go "150 bucks is a lot for 27 bands when I've never heard of 20 of them!" Wheras, when you look at those Coachella lineups, they're SO huge, they look like a bargain even if you don't know who anyone is.

As I mentioned, it's like the world's greatest local radio festival, not a "destination" festival.

you just reminded me dude, i understand and agree with the destination idea of some fests, but the roo, there is nashville, atlanta, memphis, and numerous other cities within a couple of hours drive ... population, not gonna look, but must be like 10 million or so .. so i am going with the roo is not that for the potential crowd ... never really seen any figures on locals for there, i have read about 10 percent local for vegoose, which i think sucks .. and for some , yep 150 is a lot ... i know we are seeing neil young the tuesday after we get back from vegoose, and it was like 250 for two tics ... canx**

The ticket sales from last year must be down even more if they have to take out 3 full pages in the LA weekly.

AC/Superfly should have done some market research before they did this. First they appeal to hippies, then they try to appeal to both now they are trying to shy away from hippies. Obviously none of these approaches appear to be working.

It's like the over priced things they build in Vegas. They don't ask people what they want, they build it and then they wonder why nobody goes. You have to think of the consumer before you go into an endeavor. That's why everything is different in Vegas every time you go.

I'm tell you if they did a Creamfields or a Global Gathering or something like the Ultra Music Festival in Vegas it would sell out. Most of the people in Vegas are so wasted and go to dance clubs that mostly play house, trance, etc. on various nights(Empire, Jet, Rehab, Body English, Drai's, etc.). That's what they are looking for.

Also, most people in Vegas are tourists and in those countries (Middle East, Eastern & Western Europe, etc.) Electronica is so popular. They don't have fall out boy, and this other crap on the radio.

I recently went to Italy and Hungary and I was with people of all ages (18 to 70) and they would listen to the radio and they mostly listend to Electronica at all hours of the day...

I am telling you Vegas is just a cultural waste land of casinos and strip clubs...no one cares about music unless it is in a night club and people are getting hammered on $15 drinks...or in some crappy lounge. I lived they my whole life and always wondered why no one ever came through..those brave enough that did either didn't sell enough tickets or had a crappy audience (Sigur Ros strangely enough was an exception to this...both times I saw them in LV).
Living in Denver now I have seen more shows in 1 year then in the last 5 years in Las Vegas (Probably more I would have to go back and count). So, yes Rage Patton is right..had it been anywhere else it would have sold out already....

Cream actually tried to do a Creamfields US series a few years ago. One date was for NY and one was for Vegas. Neither of them happened. I really wish they would try again, or that some other established EDM promoters like Insomniac etc... would make it happen. It seems that Vegas is one of the only places left that you can have music/booze till 6 am. I think that the Creamfields event had trouble w/ tic sales and the whole 21 vs 18+ issue...

Here ya go, was supposed to happen in 01:

One of two inaugural Creamfields festivals scheduled for U.S. soil has been canceled, organizers announced Wednesday.

Creamfields Las Vegas, scheduled for September 29 and set to feature Basement Jaxx, Sandra Collins and other electronic acts not on the Creamfields New York bill, was called off for logistical reasons.

"Basically, the land that we had been told was available for us to use in Las Vegas turned out to be unavailable," Jim King, of organizers Cream, said in a statement. "It has been very frustrating and we are bitterly disappointed. We had put all our concentration on an alternative site in Los Angeles, but due to time restrictions, we were unable to guarantee that the move from Las Vegas to L.A. would guarantee that the Creamfields event would be truly unique."

Cream has instead invested more resources into Creamfields New York, set for September 1 in Long Island, according to the festival's spokesperson. Several additional acts, such as Hybrid and UNKLE's James Lavelle, have been added, and more will be announced next week.

Creamfields New York should be one of the bigger electronic-music festivals in North America. Forty-six acts are so far slated to appear on six stages.

The Crystal Method, Orbital, Stereo MC's, Hybrid, Uberzone and the Dub Pistols will perform live on the Main Stage.

Arena One: The Experience, presented by Cream, will feature Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Timo Maas, Erick Morillo, Seb Fontaine, Tall Paul, Christian Smith, DJ Feelgood, Anthony Pappa, John Debo and Mike Taylor.

Ritchie Hawtin, Josh Wink, Dave Clarke, Darren Emerson, John Acquaviva, Max Graham, Scott Hardkiss and Scott Henry will spin in Arena Two, presented by Buzz and Bugged Out.

Arena Three, presented by the Boutique and Mixer, will feature Photek, James Lavelle, Adam Freeland, Liquid Todd, Jason Bentley, Dara and DB, while NY Deep, presented by JD Productions, will find Francois K, Danny Krivit, Ron Trent, Kerri Chandler, MKL and Andi Hanley on the turntables.

Finally, Little Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Joeski & Onionz, Sandy Rivera, Carl Kennedy, Marcus & Dominique, Graham & Holmar and Filipsson will perform in the Centro Fly Arena presented by GBH and Plant.

In other Creamfields news, the fourth Creamfields U.K., set for August 25 in Liverpool, has added the Chemical Brothers to a lineup that includes Fatboy Slim, Gorillaz, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Sasha, John Digweed, Paul van Dyk and Goldie.

The cancellation of Creamfields Las Vegas comes on the heels of the Mekka Tour being called off (see "Mekka Tour Postponed Until 2002"). Roni Size, BT and the Crystal Method were slated for the inaugural trek.

Sales for East Coast electronic fest lower than expected.

Hold onto your glowsticks — the breakout summer for electronic music outings is turning out to be a dud.

Following cancellations of the Mekka Tour and Creamfields Las Vegas last week, London-based promoter Cream announced Wednesday (August 8) it was axing Creamfields New York due to sluggish ticket sales.

The September 1 festival was to feature nearly 50 acts on six stages. Fatboy Slim, the Crystal Method, Orbital, Timo Maas and Darren Emerson were among the artists and DJs lined up to play the Calverton Business Park in Riverhead, Long Island.

An event spokesperson said Clear Channel (formerly SFX) advised Cream to call off Creamfields New York because ticket sales have been lower than expected. Clear Channel noted a decline in ticket sales for most summer tours and festivals (see "Concert Attendance Dips Sharply In First Half Of 2001").

"Both Cream and Clear Channel are hugely disappointed that the event is not going to take place this year," a Cream spokesperson said. "All the artists and DJs involved were looking forward to participating in such a significant event for dance and electronic music. We would like to apologize to anyone who has already purchased tickets and to anybody who was planning on doing so."

Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

I often times state the obvious!

Oh well...

I was just teasing...that there only seem to be 2 or 3 examples of "bad music" around here, and they aren't even really that bad.

When I was in high school, we had shit like Rick Astley and Debbie Gibson on the ONE radio station in my town. A school full of Fall Out Boy fans would have been 1000 times hipper.

I was in rural Washington state in a rental car last summer. I didn't bring any CDs. I was ready to rip the FM radio out of the car. The only CD store I could find at 8pm was a Walmart. I bought "The Cork Tree" or whatever that Fall Out Boy album was called, amongst a few others. It was pretty decent. Certainly better than the garbage I kept hearing on the radio up there (which I think was actually coming from Canada.) I probably wouldn't buy another one, but I haven't gotten rid of this one.

I understand if I was younger and was around kids who thought they were the greatest band in the world, I might find them more annoying. At the time, I had BARELY heard of them. But, I prefer to hate the fan, not the band. Musically, they're just fine...not great, not horrible.

Wow, the NY and Vegas one were axed for sluggish sales.

I guess Vegas is just a bad place to do a concert.

Also, back then electronic music wasn't as popular as it is now. It's still not in the total mainstream but it's doing better. Maybe if they tried it again it would work.

OMFG, what a line-up in New York! If this is indeed the last hurrah for Vegoose, I hope Cream attempts to bring Creamfields to America again. The success of the Daft Punk and Chemical Brothers tours, as well as the popularity of Justice, should be enough to guarantee that if they market this properly and hold the event in a city that would actually get out and support it, ticket sales wouldn't be sluggish and they could make some money. The timeframe for Vegoose is pretty much ideal (although I suppose the conflict with Voodoo could be detrimental to sales, but I would think that festival appeals more to East Coasters) so it'd be a shame to not have something like this to look forward to in the fall.

M Sparks: did you ever go to that Club Freedom in Phoenix? They hosted a lot of DJs there -- I recall seeing Paul van Dyk and Sandra Collins, and IIRC, Oakenfold and perhaps even Sasha were scheduled to perform. It was a 2-storey club that closed around 2003, probably due to mismanagement. I just recall it always being packed whenever my friend and I would make the drive up to Phoenix. Is there any sort of venue in Phoenix (or the surrounding area) that could potentially host an event like this? What are all the venues up in the area? If Phoenix can host a Super Bowl, it can host a music festival, and if it was held at a time when there weren't other festivals going on in southern California, it could attract a bunch of people from LA and San Diego, in addition to the rest of Arizona, perhaps New Mexico, and those people in Vegas who are as excited about attending Vegoose as the rest of us.

Never heard of Club Freedom, but I know a friend of mine saw Van Dyk down there somewhere a few years back. Maybe this is the same place as Axis/Radius (http://www.axis-radius.com/)? I was never much of a club kid, though I would go to The Works sometimes in Scottsdale in the early-mid 90's.

There are lots of concert venues, though not near as many as there used to be. I'm not sure any of them would be appropriate for a multi stage music fest. I guess they would do it down at Schapff Farms or whatever it's called, where they have a big country fest every year. They just had Edgefest down there...Amy went, I think.

Do you honestly think Jamiroquai could headline a day in the Sahara? Seriosuly, like he woudl get a 90 mins set and make everyoen dance their booty off? Not happening. If he did do Coachella, odds are they get liek a Faithless type slot, but not in the headlining time. Or they get closing on the Outdoor Theatre.

I said, if there were no acts like Chemical Bros, Prodigy, Underworld, etc. on the day he was playing, he would get a headlining spot. For example, Friday this year, didnt have a "big" Sahara act. Jamiroquai would have filled that spot. And Jamiroquai could lite up the Sahara tent for an hour and half and people will still be left wanting more!
And Jamiroquai shouldnt play anywhere else but the Sahara. It would be the most appropriate use of the oversized disco ball EVER.

I was fairly sure I couldn't make Vegoose simply because flights from FL aren't cheap. But if I can get a good deal on a ticket or something, i dunno.
I'd just be going for saturdays lineup, tho.

PROPOSAL FOR PRE-VEGOOSE BOARD MEETUP

Cook E Jarr at Carnival Court (outside Harrahs) 6-8pm Friday

Cook E Jarr is the king of bad lounge singers. Carnival Court is an open air bar in a central location. It's early enough that it shouldn't interfere with anyone's plans for the evening. Everyone can meet up and have a drink before heading out. They serve food there too- typical burgers and salads. Dress doesn't matter there...you could walk in dressed for clubbing, or in a t-shirt & jeans. There's no waiting in line for a table, no cover, you just walk in and grab what's available. And when it's busy, they have outdoor Blackjack.

Just a thought...anyone else have a suggestion?

The problem for me with this is that my flight arrives in Vegas around 10:30 on Friday night, so I would have to meet with people on Saturday. (Unless folks want to meet up at Thievery Corporation that night, as that's where I'll be headed as soon as I land.)

Gogol Bordello just got added to the artists signings!!! :):):):):)

I love you Vegoose!!!

Dammit... I just know getting the Gogol Bordellos autograph is going to conflict with an act I want to see. I just know it.

But right now, I dont care! :)

Nice. I'll go if it doesn't conflict with a band I want to see...those dancers are hot. I really hope Blonde Redhead does a signing because they didn't at Coachella and I didn't get to meet them the other week.

Never mind, just a thought. I wasn't going to be getting in until late either, but my wife got Friday off, so we're going to drive over that morning.

A minor bummer...Daylight Savings Time doesn't switch until November starting this year. So the sun won't be going down at 5 as we had talked about a while back....probably be around 6. At least I think that's how it works. DST is so confusing, especially when you live somewhere that has sense enough to ignore it.

It looks like in the past two years, the time actually switched between the 1st and 2nd night of the fest. So it might not have been true for Saturday anyway. I was basing my observations on being there Nov 4th last year.

This would've been cool w/me, I'm flying in Friday morning.... I used to hang out at this place back in the day, I had some budddies who were flair bartenders there..

We could always just hook up at a cool spot Friday night, circle bar at Hard Rock, Double Down, etc., etc.,...

Alrighty, I havent been on the board in a day or two, so I have to do some catching up.

First: Ron and Bryce, check your PMs.

Second: That meeting place sounds awesome. Cheesy lounge singers are the best. However is it 21+?

Third: People should definately met up inside the venue before catching a band. Obviously, this cant really be discussed in depth before set times are released... but who ever wants to met up with me before Gogol Bordello is more than welcome too!

Fourth: An "early" morning pre-party at Rons sounds fun. IM MAKING WAFFLES!

Last: Those Muse setlists are pretty much awesome. No Micro Cuts or Muscle Museum (fat chance anways)... but Citizen Erased and Unintended are pretty nice aswell.

Second: That meeting place sounds awesome. Cheesy lounge singers are the best. However is it 21+?

Theoretically,it SHOULD be all ages, because it's a restaurant too. Also, it's basically outdoors. If I recall correctly, it just opens out onto the strip sidewalk, so I doubt they really can keep anybody out. It's just to the south of Harrahs.

It looks like most aren't coming into town that early. If you or anyone else wants to meet there (Carnival Court, 6pm Friday), PM me, and I'll put together a list. I'm probably not going to go there just to go there, I just figured it would be a fun/convenient meeting spot.

carnival court is set up to charge a cover, so i'd guess even when it's free they'll have a guy check id's. but like sparks said, it's really just on the sidewalk so the youngin's could meet there and see the sites.

I must be remembering it wrong. Or maybe they have a barrier they can set up when it's busy. Which it will be.

Last time I was there, it was empty, and I swear it was just open to the street. But I could be wrong. I was there to go to the Improv, so I would have probably gone out that side door, not come from the street.

Vance_Vegoose
10-08-2007, 06:19 AM

Let's hope for a couple adds. I was thinking probably Digitialism on Sunday would be good. They are playing Saturday in LA at Monster Massive so maybe.

Also, If you look at Kanye's brief schedule he could make it Sunday in Vegas.

So who knows?

Depends on the hotel. Unless you have valid paperwork they are going to tell you to fuck off. Too many con artist try to this these on a everyday basis. When I worked at the Monte Carlo it was almost a everyday thing...and even if we did have rooms, they would try and say they "Were sure their rate was much lower...". Might work at the smaller non strip hotels...but given what I know I would never try it...

We should have a couple meeting inside though anyways for people who want to go to common bands. Obviously, this can be discussed in more detail when set times are released.

As for my priorities. As long as on Saturday I get to see Gogol Bordello, Battles, QOTSA, Iggy and Daft. I am good. Everyone else I see will be a bonus. And as long as on Sunday I see Ghostland, Infected Mushroom, Muse and Rage I will be good.

Third: People should definately met up inside the venue before catching a band. Obviously, this cant really be discussed in depth before set times are released... but who ever wants to met up with me before Gogol Bordello is more than welcome too!

I'll probably be running into you before Gogol, I have a feeling that I'll be the only one in my group catching that show.. I'll be hanging out w/a bunch of girls, mostly there to catch Rage..

Has anyone ever had luck showing up at a hotel, pretending to have reservations for a certain rate, and then act surprised when they can't find it in their system? I know somebody who actually did this a couple times to get rooms at "booked" hotels.

I used to work at the Venetian.. The only thing that I ever heard working was getting free upgrades on booked rooms... At most places, all you had to do was ask... But again, Halloween weekend is going to be tough trying any sort of maneuver..

JUST ANNOUNCED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Artist Announcement:
Frederico Aubele (live)

We are pleased to announce FREDERICO AUBELE (live) at VEGOOSE at Sam Boyd Stadium & Star Nursery Field!

"I'm just tired of being a foreigner," says Federico Aubele who has been living away from his native Argentina (in Berlin & Barcelona) and touring the world for 5 years, "I need to go back home to Buenos Aires." Despite some of the remaining effects from Argentina's economic and political crisis in 2001, Aubele loves Buenos Aires. *"It's like going out with a crazy, but incredibly beautiful, charming and seductive woman. She might drive you insane at times, but when you take a step back and look at her, you're reminded how much you love her and why."

On the 13 tracked "Panamericana," one hears guitars, the bandoneon, and horns that play out Latin rhythms. There are tango influences, a touch of bolero, reggae/dub bass lines, hip-hop beats, and electronic sounds. Vocals, all in Spanish, float in a smooth and sensual way over congas, drums and heavy bass beats. Aubele, who wrote all songs and lyrics-with the exception of "Lluvia," lyrics written by Gonzal Garces-sings solos and duets on 6 of the tracks. A variety of South American artists are featured throughout "Panamericana," such as singer/songwriter Amparo Sanchez of Amparanoia, the Columbian singer Vernie Varela, and Natalia Clavier, one of Aubele's live show singers. Among other groups who collaborated on "Panamericana" are Calexico (trumpets and wah guitars), and the legendary Argentinean Latin ska band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs (horn section). Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation produced the album from the ESL Music Consulate in Washington, DC.

FREDERICO AUBELE (live) Who? I have never heard of this guy before. However, his music does sound really cool and intruiging. However, I have a feeling I wont get the chance to see him. Why? Because he is added to Saturday! WTF? Another Saturday addition? I am very curious as to how many set time additions we will see on Sunday...

Impersonators Cafe... we knew about that.

Sports Lounge. Who cares?

Buzznet community has an actual Vegoose forum. However, I dont know if I will join it. I have become quite attatched to the proboards forum...

Set times next week is my guess.

Just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

Hey Josh, you finally have someone lower than Battles. I'm not sure if that would make a Gogol/Battles conflict more or less likely.

Hmmm...maybe my predictions from a couple weeks ago are coming true? I believe I said "1 add on Saturday you've never heard of, 2 mid/low level and 2 no names to Sunday."

16 per day is optimum with the tag-team stage set up. 5 on the main stage, 4 in the tent, and 7 back and forth on the other 2 stages. That's pretty much what they had last year.

Ardentbiscuit

I don't know who this addition is either. All I know is that he is an ESL artists. Makes sense, a bunch of others are on it too.

The other news stories don't really matter. Just more filler to look at inbetween sets.

It's strange how they keep adding to Saturday.

Maybe they are going to shut the whole festival down, pack everything up, let the vendors go home and bring the riot police in and let everyone go to town when Rage is on. Just kidding!

I am so glad theyhave finaly added someone lower than Battles. It seemed to me having them be the "smallest" band on the poster. I really, really hope Battles and Gogol Bordello do not conflict. Fuuuuuuuck I really hope they dont conflict. With that being said, I really do like this Frederico guys music. However, if he conflicts with Battles/Gogol, he loses.

Your theory for Sunday makes sense... but why add 2 mid-level acts so late? I think when set times are released, 3 or 4 basicaly no-name acts will be added to Sunday.

Your theory for Sunday makes sense... but why add 2 mid-level acts so late?

Well, that was my theory a few weeks ago, don't know if I still subscribe to it. :) Still, could be part of a push to grab more locals. Sounds like they are really cranking up the promotion in LV and LA.

You're right though...a mid level wouldn't do much to drive locals. You would need something big, and I don't see that happening.

I think it's interesting that Live 105 in SF has started a Vegoose Promotion.

http://www.live105.com/

And they had booth at Detour. They were giving out all kinds of promotion stuff and having a pretty good contest. They said you could win 4 tickets, air tickets, hotel accomodations and some other stuff in the prize package that I couldn't hear because Kinky's cover of "Mexican Radio" was so loud! I just didn't feel like hanging around to re hear the prizes, I entered, that was enough.

I think they will add some more people to Sunday. Honestly I think it would make perfect sense if they added Digitalism, The Teddybears, The Hives and Kanye. That's what I'm hoping for..

Digitialism playing Saturday in LA, would be easy to make on Sunday.

The Hives have a space on their schedule Sunday away from one off shows and Maroon Five between Texas and Colorado so they could make it.

The Teddybears cancelled all other dates except for detour. They could do another one off for Vegoose and then Iggy could hang around and make a guest appearance during their set on Sunday during "PunkRocker".

Kanye has space in his schedule and he will have even more time to recover now that Bang is cancelled. Plus he could play Sunday and maybe make an appearance during Daft Punk on Saturday.

Just throwing around ideas...

rage patton
10-09-2007, 04:32 PM
The Hives being added would pretty much be the ultimate addition for me.

Teddybears + Iggy = awesome!!!

Daft Punk + Kanye = terrible...

I bet you none of the additions you listed above will happen though. Also, when was Bang cancelled? And why?

I mentioned Digitalism a few weeks ago, and no one said anything about it. Infected is playing Monster Massive too...I wonder how much of an effect Daft Punk will have on MM's ticket sales or vice versa. Digitalism & Infected on Sunday might be enough to convince someone who planned to drive up from LA on Saturday for Daft to stick around for Sunday...especially since they'd be missing them in LA.

And again, the other thing about The Hives is that they are NOT playing the final Maroon 5 show...in Vegas. They dropped off the bill.

If you were The Hives, and you were trying to promote a new album, would you rather play in front of 2500 Maroon 5 fans, or 10-20,000 Rage or Muse fans? This could be a case where a late add might make sense- the band stands to benefit more than the promoters.

It could happen. Something is happening. Big ticket giveaways on many radio stations. Set time leaks. Print ads everywhere.

BTW...I don't think IM and Muse will conflict, because I think Muse will headline one of the other stages. Actually, even if they play main stage, they could start as late as 7:30.

rage patton
10-09-2007, 07:35 PM
As I just said on the Vegoose board M...
No way Muse start at 7:30 or 8. Rage will be closing the main stage. I am betting they will hit the stage around 9... 9:30 latest. If ANYONE is going to conflict with them, it will be Moe. If Muse does close a stage, it will be one of the tag team stages, which will probably end by 8 or 8:30. On the other tag team stage, Moe will start. Then on the mainstage Rage would start about an hour later. That would make the most sense.
Remember, this isnt Coachella. Its quite posible, due to the lack of acts, Rage wont conflict with ANYONE.

And last year The Roots overlapped Widespread Panic by an hour and half.

And last year The Roots overlapped Widespread Panic by an hour and half.

Yes but Panic played 3 hours each year. DMB played 2 1/2. Also, the shows ended earlier in 2005. And they weren't doing tag-team scheduling in 2005.

If you are going to compare, you've got to compare to Saturday in 2006. The Killers were on the last tag-team from 8:05-9:35. Tom Petty was on the main stage at 9:45.

I do think if the do that, they will have the sense to leave a little more space between Muse & Rage.

Another possibility...If moe is really going to be positioned as the alternative to Rage, why have them end early? Give them a 2 hour slot from 9:00 to 11:00...which would have Muse ending at 8:50. So that would put them onstage at either 7:05 or 7:20. Yeah, not enough time to camp out for Muse, but ya gotta make choices.

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying you're wrong when you keep saying "there's no way."

Pretty much exactly what I said. :) I'm too lazy to go find it, but I did think it was odd they are doing live sets up and down the west coast, and then just a DJ set at MM.

I wasn't ripping on you in a Suprefan "I already said that" way. I was just glad to see someone on the same wavelength. It just suddenly made perfect sense to me to add Digitalism. I kept emphasizing "this is not a rumor! It just makes sense to me." But no one responded, so I kind of forgot about it.

rage patton
10-10-2007, 09:40 AM
Well there are plenty of way Superfly can fuck these set times up. Im just saying, if they have the slightest bit of common sense, no matter when Muse start and Rage end they should put atleast half an hour to an hour of time between them.
And from past schedule, acts partialy conflict with headliner. Not fully, as you yourself pointed out. So I am saying perhaps Moe will hit the stage at 8 and play till 10 or 10:30. That way if Rage starts at 9 or 9:30, they can play till 10:30 or 11. Rage arent a jam band though. They wont be playing a 2 and half hour or 3 hour set. They will probably play an hour and half. MAYBE 2 hours. Moe usualy play long sets from what I hear, so due to the lack of bands on Sunday, Im getting Moe will have 2 and half hours, 2 at least. Moe will likely also end before Rage, which I why I said Moe starting around 8 make more sense then starting around 9.
Just my thoughts.

I don't know your stations over there. I don't even know the stations where I live. I hate radio. I just know they are playing some radio fest somewhere November 10th. It's in another thread around here. 94.9 or something.

I just meant that The Hives were in the rumor mill, then they cancelled their Vegas show Nov 10th, so I and some others thought that could be a clue they were playing Vegoose. They still could, but now there's another explanation for dropping the Vegas show.

EDIT- it's in San Diego.

Okay, I found the thread. It is 94/9 in San Diego. They haven't been around that long. I've been to one show they did. Interpol w/ The Bravery and Bloc Party.

You're right though, they still could play Vegoose, they aren't playing Las Vegas at all now.. :)

I don't know if anyone stands to benefit from this, but the AZ dance radio station 92.7 is giving away Vegoose tickets. It's some convoluted thing where you have to sign up for the Vegoose tickets on their website and listen everyday at 4:20, and they call your name out and you have to call them back or some shit. Just thought I'd mention it.

Yeah, mine are scheduled for tomorrow too. I'm impressed...I figured I wouldn't get a tracking number. Plus, there's all that stuff on the website about "being home during the 2nd and 3rd week of October." I was sure they would half-ass it.

Just my thoughts.

ok here is my prediction on the rage/muse/moe debate:

im not sure on stage setup but i think it will look like this in regards to set times:

Muse 630-830

moe. 8-11

Rage 930-11pm

give or take 1/2 depending on when they want the festival to end) either 1030 or 1130 either way)

if i was running it, i would want muse to start up at a time when the sun is down and let them have their full set. i would then give a hr break in between to remove their setup and get ready for rage, which honestly it takes 20 min to get them setup. only drawback is you will have the rage fanatics wanting to stay right upfront waiting so you will hear the moaning and complaining. but oh well.

let moe finish out a stage and play 3 hrs for all their fans ill even check em out waiting. ive seen rage enough to where im gonna hang out in the back and just enjoy the vibe...

just my 2 cents...

I'm praying they don't screw up the set times but I won't worry about it until it comes out.

I wonder how many hookers are going to try to recruit at the Silent Disco?

And I think we should post the sexiest/sleaziest girl's in costume and vote on which is the best! That's one of my favorite things about Halloween (Especially in Vegas)!

I'll bet the girl that comments on the Vegoose myspace wearing her undies is in the running...

i always enjoy the hooker aspect of life. always funny to see and you just know who is. some are plain dogs but some are actually gorgeous and i am always wondering what is going on insdie them to want to go that route. i know mostly its about money and trying to survive. but there are the few who actually like to get it on and just feel they should be paid! god bless america! :)

has anyone here honestly thought of going that route? i can give you a hilarious story about me and one when i was 21 back about 15 yrs ago.

went to vegas back in 92 with 4 other guys. we were hanging out and getting drunk. single no attachments just being guys havign a good time. ran into a amazing girl who started to talk. to us. we were all naive. she told us about this place on the outskirts of vegas, we went there and sure enough it was some type of strip joint/ hooker mall. we went in had a drink and then one girl asked us if one of us would go back there. she said 200 for a good time.

well we put 200 bucks together and drew numbers i won! so i went back there and it was totally dark. she brought a glass of champagne and we went inot this room that look more like a jail cell. we went in and we had a drink and then she wanted me to give her a massage.

after that she said she would be right back. it was really awkward. i look up and up on the ceiling even though it was dark i could see a camera right on me. all i kept thinkinh was" im being set up" did i say anything? can ig et arrested? she came back and said for 200 more we can go to the next level. i thne knew i was screwed.. i told her like a wimp and scared little child i had no money. she said our session was over and 2 guys came in and escorted me out. i felt so stupid! my buddie had left so i had to walk 10 miles back to vegas!

funny thing was about 2 weeks later im watching "a current affair"anyone remember this show? they did a report on places scamming people and they profiled that place. they shut it down and all who weere involved were arrested. everyone who went to vegas was in the hosue and looked over at me and just started rolling on the ground laughing at me. i actually laughed too cuz it was such a ridiculous story but actually i went through it.

just a dumb young drunk story for everyone :)
