Jesus Christ, are all your sons total pussies or what? Can't go to see fucking Batman? Are you trying to help them grow vaginas?

Randy, please promise us all you will get a vasectomy. :)

faxman75
07-17-2008, 12:34 PM
Yes, please Randy.

My kid is random with what scares him. Movies never had however he had pretty bad adhd and honestly at 10 years old has only seen probably 6 or 7 movies. Kung Fu Panda cracked him up and he saw it twice in a day. Thanks to the miricle of meds and we weren't the type of parents who were looking to medicate our child because he had to much energy and we wanted to stare at the tv either. anyway, he liked Ironman as well. If he gets bored he either goes to sleep or asks once or twice to get food or go to the bathroom but he's good.

That said every kid is different. My kid is a bit obsessed with WWE and he only gets to watch for limited amounts of time but I took him to a live event when he was 8 and he totally freaked and had a full blown terror panic attack when the explosions went off. We left early. I felt like a bad parent.

RotationSlimWang
07-17-2008, 12:37 PM
It's not a live event, it's a fucking movie. Shielding your kids from the world doesn't do them any good. Inundate the little bastards and get them used to how the world actually is: sometimes it's scary and daddy can't save you.

And no, I will not get a vasectomy. My shit is prolific, first and foremost. =)

faxman75
07-17-2008, 12:44 PM
Somethings wrong here, I had the vasectomy and the child isn't even biologically mine.

anyway, I think on the face I agree with your shielding the kids from the world statement but there isn't a blanket rule for this stuff. It's common sense though, if he ever got freaked out in a movie we would simply leave and discuss the fiction we were watching.

locachica73
07-17-2008, 12:48 PM
I was the bad parent that didn't shield my kids from stuff, my sister and her husband shielded their kids from everything. When we went to Disneyland his kids were up his ass the entire time. If he so much as went to the bathroom for more then 2 minutes the kids would think he abandoned them. My kids needed to be put on leashes to keep them with me, they fear nothing. I always thought I was doing the right thing and he was doing the wrong thing. But now, 10 years later, his kids are much better for it. My kids fear nothing, which is why my daughter is going to court tomorrow for stealing my car and my son has to do 10 hours of community service for a curfew violation.

Perhaps there's other things to blame in the differences in child rearing than, oh, I dunno, movies.

locachica73

I don't blame movies, I blame myself for wanting to be the friendly mom and now they don't even fear me. And the fact they have never had a real male role model considering their father died of a drug overdose and my ex husband wasn't much into being a "step dad"

LOL well I spanked them, with a belt even. But now at 14 and 16 they are larger then me. Last time I slapped my daughter her fist came up like she was going to punch me. I told her she better make it good because if not I would end up in jail for abuse.

Every child is different, so Fax is right...comes down to common sense. I know what my Son can sit through, and what he can't.

He isn't sheltered at all. We talk to him constantly about things we see on the news, movies, etc. And, he is free to ask questions, and we answer him honestly. But, at the same time, I want my Son to enjoy his childhood as much as possible and wait to worry about the big bad world later. That's my job, for now. :)

Thought this was a funny bit, with the discussion about the movie and all yesterday:

What are those kids doing at ‘Dark Knight’?
Posted: 11:33 AM ET
Today’s buzz revolves around two questions: Have you seen “The Dark Knight” and when do you plan to see it?

So consider this. You’ve paid $9 (or more) for the ticket, $4 for the popcorn and you’ve threaded your way to the seat your friends have been fighting to save for you. You get settled to enjoy the movie, one you’ve been dying to see. Then it happens — the crying baby, the kid asking their parents questions, the foot kicking your chair.

Isn’t this a PG-13 rated movie? Isn’t it past their bedtime? It seems like no curfew is necessary when parents are bringing their kids to adult movies. It’s as if the children are their friends.

Where are the boundaries? There are adults’ films and kids’ films. I never consider having a drink and going to see “Hannah Montana” with a theater full of tween girls because that would be inappropriate. It is equally inappropriate to bring a small child and expect that they will understand or appreciate the film they are seeing.

So what does a parent do when they want to see “The Dark Knight”? You consider that not every moviegoer is interested in being your babysitter. Leave the kids at home — and, for that matter, think before you let your preteens go on their own.

I would disagree respectfully of course depending on the age of the kids in question probably but ultimately it's summer vacation. I don't remember how old I was when I last had a bed time during summer vacation but it couldn't have been much past 7 or 8. Small doesn't really tell me anything as my kid is 10 years old 48 inches tall and less than 50 lbs. :)

Anyway, he sat through the entire movie without a single complaint. He said he liked it but I though personally he looked slightly bored at times but he said it was even better than Hellboy 2. Anyway, fantastic movie. Loved it. Good cinema. The Chicago landscape is perfect as Gotham.

I'd say 10 and up are probably ok-they know how to behave etc. It's when people bring 4 year olds. to me, it's just selfish to try to make a little kid sit and watch a movie that doesn't have elmo or the fucking wiggles or whatever is hot right now in it.

I was going to correct you and say the word you're looking for is "notoriety," but then I checked dictionary.com and notoriousness does indeed come up as being an actual word.
Meanwhile, Randy, I've realized the word I was trying to say during our conversation was "equanimity," but I was using it incorrectly. I thought it meant something about things being equal. Don't even recall the context of why I wanted to use the word.

And we were all on one side of the table, but we didn't communicate it well enough to the other side of the table. So yeah, about 20 minutes later, they got it. Sounds like a great time. I must wonder though...How did all of you manage to find time to eat? I'm having a visual with all of you chattering away while the food got cold.

no way, watching our side of the table (that recognized randy) get all wide-eyed and shocked was priceless!!! and overhearing sean explain the situation to melody and hearing the word "coup" was hilarious.

it's funny because he was supposed to get in after 4, but that bus was full and he had to come later. we were worried he might miss the dinner, but i think his grand entrance after we'd all sat down and ordered was MUCH more hilarious than if he'd been waiting in the lobby for the table with us.

and yes, we have had to try very hard not to be too obvious on the board, lol. it's disgusting, i know, we will understand if you all feel the need to slap some sense into us :p

I had a feeling... ;)

Yes, the entrance that he did was MUCH better.

I saw him walk in...John and Sean were down at the other end of the table so I don't think they saw the goings on right away.

Also, I hate to ruin his cred and all, but he's not like you'd think he is.

It's funny reading that. I have been told this by hundreds of people. I am sorta the Randy of another board and some people were even nice enough to buy me an "asshole" shirt in Mexico.

My grilled shrimp burrito was really tasty. Liked the food and atomosphere there a lot.

I get here and damn if I couldn't get cold water to come out my faucet, the pure cold was almost warmer then the hot water.

That's scary shit. The desert if fucking dangerous.

it also took like 5 of them (and eventually two cops) to try to get two freaking girls out of their seats at the cure show. how useless. they've also pulled a bunch of bullshit at raves. they'd constantly try to catch me selling ecstacy which was ridiculous as i'm not a drug dealer and rarely ever even roll.

i used to run around saying plur all the time, it's a basic nice thing. My issue with raves was the lack of community. Drugs were the life and death of raves in my opinion. I loved the atomsphere but sometimes the vibe was really missing. Once corporate sponsors got involved it was all over. I thinik 1995 was my rave year where I went to about 20 or so. Maybe it was me just having trouble opening up to strangers but me and my friends had a blast there. Never E only LSD for the price always and the longer trip. The underground warehouse chicago raves were a blast. I liked the secret society aspect of it as well. Cops come bust it up at 3am and on the way out everyone is whispering phone numbers and giving directions to the backup location. Good times indeed. My favorite style was hardcore and a guy named Nicky Fingers who died in probably 1996 or something of a drug OD. He was killer, he found ways of mixing pop culture into his hardcore music and I was always fascinated with his sounds and skills.

Anyway, raves were fun. I went to a rave on Lake Michigan once called The love Boat. A rave on water for 4 hours. Good times.

it is, but i think as of late they've stopped doing raves.

i was SUPER pissed because they had the big halloween party there last halloween (2007) and like no one came. there was some drama with that creepy boo guy who has a wherehouse across the street. boo was creepy in that he was like 50 or 60 and had previously asked his ex-girlfriend's child to piss on his dick. he was arrested for this and served time. now he allows idiots like matt dunn to throw parties at his wherehouse illegally. helen, one of the icehouse owners or whatever, i think was threatened by his business and didn't like the guy for obvious reasons, so she called the cops on one of their parties. this pissed off all the drugged up ravers who liked the wherehouse, so they all started boycotting the icehouse. i just think it's stupid that these kids are boycotting the icehouse, which has given them a safe venue for years and years, over some dick pissing pedophile.

goth night was HILARIOUS because they'd keep the main room closed from the ravers until the goth nights would let out, but they'd still let us party in the basement. i remember a few occasions stumbling out of the basement all brightly candied out, hopped up on goofballs and it was always fun to see the depressingly drugged goth kids give you death stares as you bounced to the bathroom. i lived for shit like that, lol.

great name; however the first one was so lame. it was supposed to be all party monster themed, so me and my girlfriend dressed up as nurses. we stayed all of five minutes. the most hilarious thing is that some ravers were actually married at the party by matt dunn. i cannot imagine any more way to announce yourself to the world as a loser than that.

It was very, very loud, as anyone who went to shows at the Nile in the mid-90's would know. I don't really remember much of what the played--they only had 2 albums out at the time, so mostly Bends and some singles from Pablo Honey. The show was all-ages, and I was stuck babysitting my 5 yr old nephew, so I brought him. A rather selfish decision on my part, but hey, it was Radiohead after all. My nephew kept throwing ice at ppl. I think everyone there hated me including Radiohead. Sorry for the lousy review. :) I wish I had had some cash to buy a damn t-shirt since they were really cool. Lower case "r" symbol. Nice.

Just ripe, slippery people rubbing up on each other all night. My date was under 21, and I wouldn't buy her a beer because I was all paranoid (also, I don't touch Bud Light, even to pass it to someone else.) So then she went and copped some LSD in the bathroom. I had a Lords of Acid CD a few years back. The lyrics to their song "Pussy" should replace "seem" with "are" in your last sentence. Example:

"I want to see your pussy
Everybody says it's nice
Can I come and visit?
I'll be at your house tonight

...

(Chorus)
I want to see your pussy, show it to me
Let me see your pussy, show it to me
Show me your pussy, show it to me
I want to see your pussy, show it to me"

Lyric writing prowess like that aside, their songs were actually pretty good. Some of them were, anyway. Are they even together still?
