I moved to Tucson from Phoenix last year, and I'm really missing Phoenix. A friend convinced me to move down here... I dunno what I was thinking. Tucson city council sucks, and the roads are always congested cause there are no freeways besides the I10. Pretty much all of Tucson looks like crack town corner except for the Sam Hughes district. What was I thinking?

the other white amy,

I like how Ivy, naturally, can't use the term "Ivy's friend Amy" from her point of view. Yet "the other white Amy" doesn't work for me, as I know a good 6 or 8 white Amys.

I also know that Ivy refers to someone as "shitty Amy", but I have not had the pleasure (?) of meeting her.

Man, I've been salty about this all week. The Clubhouse has always sucked but has it actually gotten worse? I can't remember the last show I saw there (Devotchka?) but are there now less speakers than before? No one should have to stand directly in front of the stage to get decent sound. This shithole has been around for years. There's no excuse to continue having such awful sound. Or fucked up bathrooms. Or broken ceiling fans. The owners of this venue clearly don't give a fuck about their patrons because they know it's one of the very few local venues of that size. They even did away with the sink. THE MOTHERFUCKING SINK. Fucking cunts.

My buddy, US citizen who is Mexican, got pulled over last week driving home from work at night. The police officer asked him for his driver's license, insurance, and registration. So my buddy asked why he was pulled over. The officer said I'll tell you after I run your documents. The officer went back to his car, then came back a little later and asked him if he owned his truck he was driving. He said "yes". The officer then asked him again, and he responded saying, hey, you've got all my documents in your hand, you tell me. The cop then said ok, well your license plate lights are out. You're free to go. When my friend got home, he got outside his truck to check the license plate lights and they worked.

I wish you buddy could/would have checked them while the cop was still on the scene. If he got out and they were on I would have gotten a badge number and contacted the media. The quicker stories like this get blown up to ridiculous proportions by the media the less likely they will be to abuse the power the law entitles them to have.

It's going to get a lot more messy.

I had a conversation with Michael Bidwill a few months back about Sun Devil. I used to have season tix back at SD stadium too, so we were reflecting back on the "old" days. He's actually not a bad guy. Was expecting him to be an ass.

When I first started going to the Cardinals games it was with a buddy (whose wife decided not to go with him any more since they had young kids). This guy is a lawyer who worked in the US Attorney's office at the time and had been a co-worker with Michael Bidwill when he worked there, and got to know him a bit. His take was Michael was solid even though the father was crazy and Bill Jr an asshole.

Not sure if any of you travel to Rocky Point but.....be careful would be an understatement.

http://www.kvoa.com/news/us-consulate-issues-warning-about-fake-checkpoints-in-mexico/

NOGALES, Ariz. - A travel warning has been issued from the U.S. consulate in Mexico after several unconfirmed reports of unauthorized checkpoints.

According to officials, some motorists who didn't stop were shot at and killed.

The area affected is along Highway 8, between the border and Rocky Point.

Motorists are advised to limit travel to major roads during daylight hours and to cooperate if they do come across an unofficial checkpoint.

This report has apparently caused a lot of questions. It appears the Nogales consulate is putting out rumors as there is not a single person, witness or official who can substantiate the claim that any american was ever shot for not showing papers.

While it is not unusual for the U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Sonora to release a travel advisory for parts of Mexico, the latest warrant, dated May 19, 2010, has left an entire community wondering where the Consulate gets its information.

Business leaders in Puerto Penasco, known commonly as Rocky Point, met on Monday to discuss the backlash of calls and emails received as a result of the warning that specifically mentioned dangers on Highway 8, the road to this popular beach resort town.

According to the director of Mexico’s Federal Highway Patrol, no incidents like those discussed in the warning have occurred. The AFI, which is like the Federal Investigative Agency, has also denied any knowledge of problems along Highway 8. Local police chief Erick Landagaray expressed surprise that the Consulate would issue a warning without so much as a thread of truth to it, without first consulting with his office. The Attorneys General at the State as well as Federal level have also said there is no basis for the claims of violence on the road to Puerto Penasco.

Fausto Soto, Director of International Relations for the City of Puerto Penasco attended the meeting, where all agreed the highest priority should be in preparing travelers with the truth, regardless the economic effects on the city.

Nevertheless, according to the American business community, it seems that in this case the U.S. Consulate has violated their own policy not to rely solely on unsubstantiated rumors…and in this case, they got their facts very, very wrong, in the process harming an entire community, many of whom are Americans.

It would be na´ve to think that the timing of this warning was accidental, coming as it did right before one of the biggest weekends for this resort community. That negative reports hit the media harder right before Spring Break or other important holidays for travelers is nothing new. What is new, however, is the participation of the U.S. Consulate’s complicity in unnecessarily scaring the traveling public and causing harm to many American-owned businesses south of the border.

The hope in Puerto Penasco is that those who know and love Rocky Point won’t stay away or cancel their travels plans without first verifying the veracity of what they’ve heard, even if the rumors come with the stamp of the U.S. government.

Sounds like an awesome lunch Sean.

I decided to play reporter and inquire a bit about the travel advisory issued by the Nogales consulate I posted earlier in this thread. I finally got someone on the phone who was willing to talk to me. She refused to give her name but she acknowledged that the wording of their adivisory may have been confusing. I asked her flat out about the shootings. She said she did not have any reports of any shootings of americans on the highway to Rocky Point. She stated that the shootings mentioned were part of a general awareness of the dangers around the entire country. I asked her if that was the case why wouldn't they clarify the language and why would it be included in an advisory for a specific highway. She said that was the language they came up with that was least confusing. I asked her if they would issue a clarification since she admitted she has recieved many calls about this. She said no. I asked why and she said she wasn't answering any more of my questions. I asked her if she could tell me which cities in Mexico americans have been shot in during road side stops. She said Juarez. I then pressed about why the language wouldn't clarify that in an advisory regarding an entirely different part of Mexico. She said I can call the Tijuana office and talk to public relations and hung up on me.

Oh, you mean the time that Ivy and I spent most of our Coachella at the hospital in Palm Springs instead of seeing Portishead because I sprained my ankle skanking to Devotchka? I could probably post a novel about it... but it's too painful.

The best part was how upset all the people at the hospital were that we were missing Prince. The lady in the room across from me kept yelling out "Purple Rain! You're going to miss Purple Rain!" and tried to get the doctor to write me a note so they'd let us back in.

T'was a tragedy indeed. :*(

It was very much like getting my gall bladder out last year....like a year or two of ignoring pains and just trying to treat the symptoms. The pain goes away, and you think everything is awesome, but the gall bladder is still rotting. And then, "suddenly" you're in the hospital on the verge of death, and they are like "We need to get rid of this now." And then you spend a miserable couple of weeks in the hospital, but the pain's gone. After a few months, you go "Hey, I thought I needed that to live, but I guess I don't." At least, that's how I hope it turns out.

But it still feels weird sometimes. The place where my gall bladder was.

And I pretty much just glanced over the schedule because it hurts to really look at but is Conan slotted anywhere or is he just going to be at the mainstage the entire time? When and where is The Crystal Method playing too? Them getting added is like salt in the wound.

Conan is slotted at the Comedy tent on Friday 1 pm to 2:30 pm. This showing will be shown live also on video screens at the Lunar Stage. He will also play the Comedy tent on Saturday 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Oh, and to answer amyzzz's question, I hate when I get my money on a Friday when I anticipate it on the following Tuesday. I can't get to work quickly enough to express my dismay to my employer when that happens.

Did you go to a doctor? (hope it's ok, btw)

No. Several hours later, it was feeling all right enough to go to the gym, where I did a leg workout & subsequently bashed it another 5 times. It was like when you bite your tongue once and you seemingly can't avoid biting it again multiple more times the rest of that day. But it's not broken, just a bit of a gash. Mostly fine. Will make masturbating more difficult, especially since Jen's not putting out.

My old roommate is getting married this weekend, Sunday, OUTSIDE, WTF? So brutal.

my sister got married outside at the end of April and it was still tolerable outside. it was at Rustler's Roost on South Mountain.

the intolerable part was that there was no booze... we had to go into the restaurant bar

The only problem is early june has an additional digit of temperature compared to late april. Especially this year, can't really complain about the weather, just my friends poor timing.

Like Sin, I saw the knux at bonnaroo and enjoyed them, very fun and classic hip hop vibe. I'll check the link when i get home later, thanks.

I could endure the weather if it wasn't for the conservative politics, urban sprawl, and lack of culture here. Oh and shitty mass transit. And now bands have another reason to skip our state with that damn law. Fuck this state.
