If you want a Mexican psychedelic band I don't really know but rather want to see anyway: Zoe - ???

I like Zoe and I think they are far from psychedelic, unless you consider Interpol psychedelic. They are one of the hottest alternative groups out of Mexico at the moment from what I understand.

...I guess Interpol could be considered somewhat psychedelic.

This (http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40016) is the thread with custom Excel set time sheets. I'ven't seen any I like because I require the 5 minute intervals that Coachella uses rather than the 15 minute intervals most folks use.

But that's where options will be; not sure which style you prefer.

Haven't seen anything about a presale or prices yet. Get on it, D$!!!!

So I started making a list of bands to see. Here is a rough draft.

Friday
1:25 - 2:05 - P.O.S. (Gobi)
2:10 - 2:55 - Deer Tick (Outdoor Theatre)

9:05 - 10:00 - LCD Soundsystem (Coachella Stage)
11:10 - 12:20 - Fever Ray (Mojave)

Saturday
1:05 - 1:50 - The Almighty Defenders (Gobi)
3:00 - 3:50 - Old Crow Medicine Show (Coachella Stage)

4:30 - 5:30 - Dinner (nom nom)
5:35 - 6:20 - Julian Casablancas (Mojave)
5:55 - 6:45 - Jonsi (Outdoor Theatre)
7:10 - 8:00 - Phoenix (Outdoor Theatre)
9:00 - 10:30 - Thom Yorke (Outdoor Theatre)
10:30 - 1:00 - Gorillaz (Coachella Stage)

Overall I'm pretty happy that I didn't have many conflicts. If anyone wants to meet up for a particular show, let me know and I'll be down for a meet up!

Since it's sold out I can't imagine how packed its going to be this year. Hopefully a lot of people won't show till the sun is going down. But with the weather being cooler this year, who knows, I'm going to be ready for Armageddon.

I also don't have a single show in the Sahara... cr****

Friday: Deer Tick -> Avett Bros -> Yeasayer -> eat/drink -> The Specials (first half, or all if I'm having fun) -> Gil Scott-Heron - > Grizzly Bear -> LCD -> something or another -> PiL

Saturday (very tentative): Almighty Defenders -> Zoe -> Old Crow -> 2nd half of Girls? -> Beach House?? -> something -> the XX - > Dirty Projectors -> Hot Chip to see if they are better live -> MGMT?? -> two hour gap while Muse is playing and the Outdoor Stage and the Gobi are both vacant -> The Dead Weather, probably -> Devo.

Sunday: the Middle East -> the Soft Pack -> King Khan (first part or all) -> Owen Pallett -> Deerhunter -> 40 minutes of beer -> Yo La Tengo -> Jonsi, or beer if he sucks -> part of Spoon? -> Sly -> gametime decision on Pavement vs. Numan -> T. Yorke.

Is there a presale for this? And how much money are we going to shell out?

I heard the presale starts May 6th through rogerwaters.com. Other presales to follow through AMEX and Downtown Live I'm sure. Registration at rogerwaters.com is free, but it is a lottery system and even if you are chosen you are not guaranteed a ticket during the presale, if you are chosen you are only given the opportunity to purchase a ticket.

So why do Arizonans want to allow police to check someone's immigration status if they have a reasonable suspicion that they are undocumented? And, how the hell will they develop that reasonable suspicion?

higgybaby23

Saturday (very tentative): -> Hot Chip to see if they are better live ->

Hot Chip are infinitely better live than on record. I almost didn't go to their Rialto show because of my lackluster feelings about their albums, but they really impressed me. The energy level and musicianship were raised to a much higher level. Plus, there's not really a conflict imo.

So why do Arizonans want to allow police to check someone's immigration status if they have a reasonable suspicion that they are undocumented? And, how the hell will they develop that reasonable suspicion?

reasonable suspicion = hispanic, especially if little or no english.

and I would say the state is very torn on the issue.

The pro-Arpaio people say that if the cops are arresting someone who might be an "illegal", they might as well go ahead and check status and ship em out if they shouldn't be here. The argument is largely pragmatic -- they're already criminals (cuz they wouldn't have gotten arrested otherwise, right?) and so what harm is there in checking status.

Those of us who are opposed to this approach counter the 'pragmatism' arguments by pointing to Arpaio's illegals sweeps in Guadalupe and other prominently hispanic areas (not to mention his threats against the Guadalupe city council) - they were arresting any hispanic they could find who had a language issue and couldnt' readily (i.e., on the spot) document immigration status. Not to mention the whole principled argument about singling out hispanics to start with.

The only thing reasonable about Cops is that they don't need a reason.

Corrupt
Over paid
Pompous
Simpletons

But all things considered the Police in Arizona are pretty good and the ones in California or even better compared to Police I've met traveling in the states and Europe.

In France they don't need a reason to search you. In Belgium they can pull your car over. Remove you and search it with out a cause.

They are pretty nice in the Netherlands! At least we have some control on the Police here!

Accept for Arpaio! He's a lose cannon waiting to blow himself up.

Sorry, I'm sorta new around these parts. Anyway, I agree that Arpaio even considering running for governor is stupid, especially since his "wife told him to do it" or whatever the hell he claims about it these days. Just dumb. It would be the bottom of the three step ladder that Napolitano peaked.

Is anybody planning to Caravan from the Phoenix area on Thursday or meeting up for car camping entry in Indio? Just wondering since the wife and I are planning on leaving sometime Thursday before noon if possible (although late night and last minute packing and staple purchases like dry ice and bread could dent that plan). I know there are various camping groups in various stages of disarray, but none of those really seem too appealing.

I am not leaving Gilbert until 1:15. Meeting John (Mt McCabe) in Indio between 5 & 5:30 hopefully, plus another friend. If you don't get out until later, it would be nice for us to have a 4th so we can have a block rather than an L shape. I'll PM you my # and if you don't get in until around 5, let me know and I'll send you the meeting place. (Which hasn't been chosen yet.)

Same goes for any of you who don't leave until after noon. I will likely be the last one there though, and we probably aren't waiting around for anyone else.

Ok, so maybe the following message should go in the tickets thread, but thought I'd start here first.

I have 5 good friends heading out to Coachella. 3 of them have their Coachella tickets, along with 2 car camping tickets. Of course it sold out before the final 2 could get their tickets. My friend Eric, who some of you have met and has his ticket, said that he is willing to give people a ride from Phoenix to Coachella and share their camping spots for free if someone has extra tickets they are willing to sell to the 2 buddies who don't have Coachella passes at a reasonable price. PM me if you know someone and I can give you his contact info.

I can't believe I am getting roped into helping them out when I'm not even going, sheez.

Low lights... LCD was a little dissapointing, Z-trip was good but i was expecting greatness. Gorillaz was a dud.

lcd was a little disappointing. their new stuff isn't anywhere near as good as their old stuff. and no north american scum or daft punk.... :(

but they started and ended their set with some good stuff. time to get away into us and them was awesome. then the one two punch of yeah and ny i love you to end it was sweet.

the gorillaz music left me with goosebumps the whole entire set. but i was very disappointed by the stage show. something tells me that some of their visuals didn't work out in time for the show, so they went with a stage show rather than animated visuals.

proxy and orbital were highlights in the sahara for me. that was pretty awesome along with Phoenix and MGMT on outdoor. i thought those sets were pretty damn good too.

This was not my favorite Coachella by any stretch but it was still a fantastic weekend. It was fun partying in the campgrounds afterwards on Friday night with Gaslamp Killer, Daedelus and Maryanne Hobbs playing the Pure Filth area. Ins & Outs ruled, especially when you're parked in the disabled lot between the Gobi and Mojave tents and your car has two fully loaded coolers of booze.

In true lurker fashion, I saw a few of you guys but was too shy, tired or fucked up to say hi.

When I went over to the Gobi at 7pm on Sunday to see Sly, I saw Tom walk by, so I followed him into the tent and he was with John and Marc. All four of us were together when they announced that Sly wasn't going on and that Little Boots would be on later. I think we all had a feeling Sly wouldn't show (even though he appeared later in the Mojave) but it was too funny with the four of standing there and hearing the news of his original set time being cancelled. Classic moment.

"Coachella is a pilgrimage or religious proportions full of trials to prove your faith. What drives us through the three-hour parking process, the blistering hear, the multitude of churro carts that make it even harder to walk around is that one moment. That brief instant when a breeze sweeps by at the same moment that you're favorite guitarist hits that high point in that guitar solo that you've sung along to millions of times alone in your car. That moment when you claim a little bit of Coachella for yourself."

Looks like Gov. Brewer will sign "The Bill" today. What a sad day for Arizona, and for the country. Only positive I can see is that all the Latino population here in the State (that used to be mostly Republican/Right mind you) will now be rising up at the polls. The vast majority ARE here legally, and will most certainly vote Brewer out and a few GOPers from the Legislature. My hope is that Goddard gets in, and maybe can clean up the mess.

If the Democratic party is smart, they will start a large campaign to get everyone registered to vote.

WTF is up with our state?! Can it get more crazy?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0410/36594.html

The Arizona state Senate on Thursday passed a bill making it illegal for a person to “intentionally or knowingly creating a human-animal hybrid.”

The bill, which passed 16 to 12, would prohibit anyone in the state from “creating or attempting to create an in vitro human embryo by any means other than fertilization of a human egg by a human sperm.”

The measure would also outlaw “transferring or attempting to transfer a human embryo into a nonhuman womb,” “transferring or attempting to transfer a nonhuman embryo into a human womb” and “transporting or receiving for any purpose a human-animal hybrid.”

Louisiana passed a similar law in 2009, the same year Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) introduced the Human-Animal Hybrid Prohibition Act of 2009. The Senate did not take up Brownback proposed law.

A state House panel has also passed the bill, though it has not faced a full vote. GOP Gov. Jan Brewer has not spoken about the bill.

The bill is designed to block potential embryonic research which combines any human and animal cells as well as the “fertilizing a human egg with a nonhuman sperm or a nonhuman egg with human sperm.”

The bill would make it a class 6 felony in the state to knowingly create such a hybrid during research and class 1 misdemeanor to create or a purchase a human-animal embryo otherwise.

and i'd much rather see badu than EDC this year, the line-up is one of the worst i've see in almost a decade. if EDC would bring some NEW talent instead of the same acts over and over again, i might have made hte trip without randy.

plus the crowds from last year and coachella this year kinda scare me. have fun, D$$$ and let us know how it is :)

Are you done raining there, Ivyleague? I'm not a veteran so the majority of the recycled talent is still new to me. I will have fun, I promise.

Also, sitting second row w/ Allymazing and rotating stage > Marquee.

i am so jealous that you got to go to the celebrity theatre. if you haven't seen a lot of the acts before, then i'm sure you'll have a blast :)

TEXT ME AFTER WORK FOOL!!!!!!!!!1

lunch time over, back to the project cave i go. if anyone will be in old town scottsdale for some strange reason, holla at me. i'm going with a bunch of girls from work to axis/radius and i think someone has a skybox or something.

Fucking horrifying:

PHOENIX Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to announce Monday if he'll run for Arizona governor.

Several sources confirm to the ABC15 Investigators that Arpaio has already made a decision, and will likely run for the office.

In a news conference after this story was first published, the Sheriff said he was still weighing his options, but also that he would in fact have an announcement on Monday.

However, when asked about a state sales tax during the news conference, the Sheriff either misspoke or leaked his decision.

"When I'm the governor, I'll study the issue," he said. "If become the governor..so I become the governor...I'll study it."

Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen said he has spoken with the Sheriff on several occasions about running for governor.

As recently as last week, Pullen said the Sheriff told him by phone that "he was just letting me know he was seriously considering it and he was meeting with his advisors and supporters to make a final decision, and that decision would be in very early May."

Several high ranking sources within the Sheriff's Department tell the ABC15 Investigators that all the necessary paperwork "has been filled out and is ready to file."

Those same sources say Arpaio has been meeting with Republican power players for the last two weeks, and that several of the conversations focused on Arpaio running for governor.

In a press release from Arpaio's campaign dated March 22, 2010, Chad Willems with Summit Consulting Group said "in just 12 months, Arpaio has raised $2 million from supporters in Arizona and around the country."

According to Arpaio's public campaign reports, he currently has at least $1.2 million in his political war chest.

"Just when we think it's going to slow down, the contributions keep pouring in," Willems said.

The question of Arpaio's candidacy is getting an awful lot of buzz across the state these days.

If the Sheriff is going to run, he has to announce soon so he can start collecting the necessary signatures to file for the primary election. That filing deadline is May 26th.

He'll also have to resign as Maricopa County Sheriff.

In addition to buzz from within the official channels, there are also a lot of back channel hints that Arpaio is seriously considering a run for the office.

In early April, he told several media outlets his wife was encouraging him to run.

He also posted on his Twitter account, "Now my wife of 53 years has joined in to urge me to run for AZ Governor. I have a big decision to make."

The 77-year-old later told the Arizona Republic the only reason he wouldn't run for governor was that he'd be forced to resign as sheriff.

In mid April, Arpaio again used his Twitter account to create more speculation.

He wrote, "The time is coming to meet with my senior commanders to discuss the future."

A second post seemed to allude that Arpaio's time as Sheriff was about to become part of the past. It read, "the employees at the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are outstanding and I have been lucky to be their sheriff."

If Arpaio does run for Governor, he'll be facing a long list of declared opponents, including Governor Jan Brewer, State Treasurer Dean Martin, businessman Buzz Mills and Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard.

Please everyone I am not the most religious person in the world but I am praying to God to stop the political persecution of Arizona residents; 1070, Jan Brewer, Arpaio as sherrif and possibly governor...we just don't have it in us! I am seriously about to break down.

And it's only going to get worse now since that Pinal County Sheriff Deputy was shot earlier today due to an encounter with supposedly illegal marijuana smugglers, this is just adding fuel to the fire of all these irrational people ready to start busting heads in the street.

Yeah, I need to get that from you so I can hand it off to the editor. What exactly do you have? The footage from the paparazzi scene and the audio from the dressing room? Anything else? I also need to get you your money.

Awesome, thanks. You still interested in doing the montage? We're going to need to do some pick-ups to get photographs for a couple of posters and Wesley's feet for the scene near the end, so maybe it'd be a good idea to have a rough cut of that ready so we can have a better idea of what kinds of photos will be needed. If not or you think you'll be too busy, no biggie, just let me know.
And for your payment, do you want me to send you a check or Paypal you the money?

I went and saw the new Disney nature doc Oceans with Ivy's friend Amy last night. It was really good. I recommend seeing it before it leaves the theaters.

I also went and grabbed a few Ed Sharpe tickets yesterday. Tempe Zia is sold out, so if you're thinking about going get your tickets now because they'll probably sell out soon.

Thanks to Sean for hosting the boxing match Saturday night and D$ for driving. Pretty, pretty good.

actually, this arpaio for gov thing might not be all bad...provided he doesn't win, of course.

per azcentral.com:

If Arpaio decides to run for governor, Arizona law would require him to resign immediately because he isn't in the final year of his current term as sheriff.

Read more: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/05/03/20100503arpaio-run-for-governor-announcement.html#ixzz0mtZa3wCV

if he decides to run and doesn't win, not only will he NOT be Gov, but he will NOT be the Sheriff anymore either.

You mean Coachella 2010? They played it at Coachella 2008 which was just a few days after that terrible Tempe Marketplace performance.
