Hello is one of the shittiest songs of all time, but I would still have a good time at a Lionel show.

But $90? Hell no.

Remember the Hello video? Man that was classic. Imagine if your ex stitched some embossed brail into that pillow?!

"Brick House" Commodores, very cool. "Three Times a Lady" Commodores, not at all cool.

That would be a bit odd to wake up to in the morning.

It was an odd few months. You know how they say all women experiment with bisexuality when they are young? She was a lesbian, and I was the experiment.

Unfortunately, she put on my "Flower Sniffin Kitty Pettin Corporate Rock Whores" Nirvana shirt that same day and I never got it back.

Yes, Lionel Richie ruined --pussified -- the Commodores much like Michael McDonald pussified the Doobie Brothers.

So, are we starting at Carly's by default?

Sounds like it.

Sounds like we might actually have a big group for once, is there anyplace nearby that might be easier to grab a big table?

No. The definition of "nearby" I am using is "within easy walking distance of Roosevelt and 3rd St." And the definition of "table" I'm using is "place to eat within a reasonably structured eating establishment."

If the use of either - or both! - of those words is more flexible that I am taking them to be there are other options. Some of them good options, even.

I'm not sure if any of you saw The Elliots when they were a band in Tempe. They played some shows opening for some bigger acts and headlining some bars. Kate Russo really rocks the electric violin and I used to love seeing them play afternoons in Jerome at the Spirit Room. The Elliots are heavily influenced by the Beatles and have a song called Elliot Road as well. They have since broke up and moved northeast but they are getting back together for a show this weekend.

They have some songs randomized on their myspace.

Today the senate has decided to shoot down a bill that would ban texting while driving.

I liked this post in the comments section.

Sounds like Maricopa & Pima County 'law' enforcement agencies participating in the National 'Click It or Ticket" program either didn't bother to read or don't care what State law says on this subject. ARS 28-909(C) specifically prohibits 'law' enforcement officers from stopping or issuing a citation to an individual for failing to wear a seatbelt unless the officer has reasonable cause to believe another violation of state law has occurred: "28-909(C): A peace officer shall not stop or issue a citation to a person operating a motor vehicle on a highway in this state for a violation of this section unless the peace officer has reasonable cause to believe there is another alleged violation of a motor vehicle law of this state." Anyone experiencing such lawbreaking by law enforcement officers should report the crime to their nearest civil rights attorney & help relieve the agency of its share of the $600,000 bribe it's received from the GOHS for participating in the program.

After a concert at Red Rocks last year I was shocked to learn they shut down the entire highway for DUI check points. A four lane highway, halted for random DUI checks. What happened to our civil liberties in this country? Nothing better than sitting in traffic at midnight on a weekend.

The Lost Leaf is a cool place. They have a great selection of bottle beer and wine (all on the pricey side) but they do not have food. Though maybe y'all were moving past the idea of eating.

905 is a good place on 4th just south of Roosevelt but it's pricier than Carly's and it'll be just as crowded and less likely to be good with a larger party.

My Florist Cafe is at like 6th Av and McDowell and is great but quite a bit more expensive and more fancy pantsy.

El Norteno is the place I alluded to in the "table" bit; it is at 7th Ave and Roosevelt and it is a great hole in the wall Mexican place. I have never had a problem with the food there but also I am not ascared of such places. They do not have inside seating; they also do not have alcohol, which is probably a bigger deal.

Matt's Big Breakfast is at 1st St and McKinley and is great but also a breakfast place so not applicable.

Pasta Bar is at 1st St and Pierce and is tasty but is also on the pricey side.

If folks don't mind going a few miles away there's always Pizza Heaven or Ticoz (hahah, jerks) or somewhere like George & Dragon (upside: great beer/Scotch, close to the light rail, downside: shitty food) or Honey Bears (do they sell beer? If yes I'd guess it'd just be bottled domestics but it's been a while) or places like Lola Tapas or Fez. Mmm.

If we want a casual place that's right in the middle of everything and has cheap beer specials and also other beer that's better and a good selection of food then it is Carly's.

Last time (1st time) we went to Rose and Crown, I had just flown in from New Jersey and we waited, like, 45 minutes to get served a beer. Call me crazy but my favorite album is Life and Times Vol. 3, play this on a good system, with some good ganja and it just doesn't get any better.

I appreciate Jay-Z more than any other rapper because he tells you exactly how he has gotten to where he is now. He doesn't say one thing and do another, he gives you a first hand account of life through his eyes. He came from the Marcy projects with literally nothing and made himself one of the richest men in the world, if you cant respect that then I don't know what to say.

I'm still on the fence on whether I want to see his set or not. I guess it will depend on what bands will be on the other stages...

I'm still on the fence on whether I want to see his set or not. I guess it will depend on what bands will be on the other stages...

MMM, it's going to be blunts and champagne bottles. I can assure Jay-Z is a true performer and knows how to captivate a crowd. That said, I'm not sure if I want you bogarting my bleezy's.

Mark, I always get a table for plenty at Carlys. I leave work at like 4 and march straight in there, no problems.

So do it, I was just throwing it out because every time I go there, there's no place to sit. Actually, I can come early too, because Tree doesn't get off work until 8 so I'm not waiting for her.

Audra is coming too, and possibly her sis and Nick.

EDIT and by "No Place To Sit", I mean that I actually do always find a place to sit, with some minor difficulty.

Damn that's a busy night. I'd have to go Elvis if I was going to anything...never seen him. I do like the new IM though.

Speaking of psi-trance that mutates into something else, my wife is all hyped for Aura on the 10th. She actually wrote it on the calender. (And yes, we have a paper calender.) Do people actually come in middle-eastern wear, or is it just a dance party with a theme? I bet she will try to bust out her belly-dance gear, and I just want to give her a heads up if she's going to be out of place. (Not that she will care.)

You don't have any light rail options near you? When i was taking the Rapid bus to DT phoenix I loved it. I would drive to the park and ride and then sit back and nap or listen to my ipod all the way into work, no stress with traffic at all. I imagine a light rail would be just as comfortable and convenient too.

How long is your commute each day?

amyzzz
03-04-2010, 02:35 PM
It's an hour each way, but on Tuesdays I'm driving 4 hours total because of choir. Light rail would take too long. We bought our house when it was the most expensive so we're underwater in it because the value has gone down so much. I like the house, and the neighborhood is ok-ish, it's just so damn far from work. We should've gotten an apartment I guess, but that seemed wrong at the time. I'm debating being a horrible person and just leaving the house and moving elsewhere and letting the damn thing foreclose.

Ticketmaster Confirms Conan O'Brien Show; Coco Nation Rejoices

It’s true! Conan O’Brien has cleared his busy schedule of Twitter brain trusts and dolphin meet and greets to perform a live show in April, fulfilling Megan Mullally’s prophecy that Coco will “have the last laugh”. TMZ broke the story an hour ago, with confirmation of one show from Ticketmaster.

While the Tickemaster page does not say what exactly the show will be, it says that the event will be held Friday, April 30 at Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. Tickets will go on sale on March 8 at 10:00 MST, with ticket prices ranging from $36.50 to $76.50.

As reported previously, a comedy tour is a clever way to skirt the clause in Conan’s exit deal from NBC which stipulated that the comedian could not appear on television before September. As of two weeks ago, Conan’s representatives at William Morris Endeavor were still trying to secure dates for the show. No other dates have been announced.

That is VERY cool, I'll have to consider whether I'll have any money for it after my Coachella expenses.

Aww, you're breaking my heart here.

Sorry we lost you. Actually, you probably lost us...Jacob started walking behind the vendors, and I realized everyone was gone. And man we were so tired anyway. We got up at 5am that day to do yoga. Sorry we lost you, Marc. It was nice to meet your wife, ever so briefly.

Just started Season 1 on On Demand, I know, I know. Have seen a few episode sporadically over the years but never had HBO long enough to get wrapped up in it. Needless to say, I'm wrapped up in it.

You're not ready for this show, D$. It will eat you up and spit you out. You're going to need a few WMDs and a few blacktops to make it through. Don't end up like Snot Boogie.

Yeah, I got there at 5:30 and I was the last one to arrive. No, Audra's sister was last.

Oh, BTW everyone... Audra broke her leg Saturday night. The black cloud continues.

Oh jesus. That was the emergency room visit? I saw the one FB post about that but didn't know the reason. Poor Audra.

Did Audra decide to jump out of a plane on a whim? How does a grown person who doesn't play contact sports break a leg?

i felt sooooooo bad for audra reading that. i tried to make it out to see her, but the second i got in my car i knew there was no way my back could survive the drive across the valley.

on the upside i did see a new, real doctor today who is FINALLY giving me some pain meds, who did an x-ray to confirm that i do have some sort of arthritis (inflammation) and is sending me to physical therapy. oh happy day.

Walking to her car at 2:00am. That, and she committed genocide in a previous life. She has to get a pin in her ankle or something.

Glad you are getting some help Ivy.

She just said she rolled her ankle and went down. I've done the same, but didn't break it. Her texts were pretty coherent for 3am with a broken leg, I don't think she was that drunk, but I wasn't there.

My mom started falling down and breaking limbs a lot when she got into 60's. Not sure why I'm telling that, but there it is. (my mom does't drink) Not sure if it was an age thing, a weight thing, or a balance thing.

Refresher, Toro y Moi is opening for the Ruby Suns this Sunday at the Rhythm Room. I may have to work this weekend so I might not make it. Lucky for me, Toro y Moi is coming back to town May 8th and opening for Caribou at the Clubhouse.

Speaking of the Clubhouse: One of my wife's employees keeps plugging his band's shows...the last time, they were playing at like 12:30am at Martini Ranch and she had to work the next day, so she said no. But this week, the guy says "We're playing this Saturday at 6pm opening for Cypress Hill." (Or at least that's what she thought he said.) And he gave her tickets, so she doesn't have an excuse not to go.

Turns out it's Sen Dog only (or whatever his name is), and these guys are 1st of 10 acts on the bill. And it's at the Clubhouse. I'm thinking we'll bail around 6:30. Ugh.

Cypress Hill were surprisingly good live when I saw them play back in 1996. I don't know about Sen Dog solo in 2010 though. :/

Well, I even sort of saw Cypress Hill at Vegoose '07. I would stay for Cypress Hill, but not for 8 bands opening for the least talented member of Cypress Hill.

Exactly. Songs/movies exclusively about pot = lowest form of entertainment.

EDIT- And my wife's company drug tests. Maybe you shouldn't invite your boss to an event called "Smoke Phatties Day"

Last movie I saw on weed was The Goonies. I stopped smoking (not that I ever did much) because it made me content to sit and watch The Goonies.

That said, I will still laugh my ass off to Up In Smoke, and I've never seen it stoned, or even drunk. And I will still smoke sometimes if it's offered depending on the situation.

My favorite stoner flick is Friday.

I saw the Elliots last night at Pranksters Too on Thomas and Hayden in Scottsdale. What a kick ass show they put on and it brought back a ton of memories. They played well over 2 hours and mixed in a few beatles covers but mostly originals. Kate Russo is fantastic on the electric violin. A good room for a good rock show. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more decent local bands at that venue. It was cool seeing Walt Richardson out and about and introducing the band too. He's probably my favorite local legend.

I like bar rock.
