Hey, Locachica needs more good vibes...her man got a concussion Saturday night and is in the hospital. She can't get on the board (or anything) anymore...I'm going to fix her computer if she can find it. ("My kids might have sold it.") That girl is way overdue for some good luck.

Hey so I just realized Toro y Moi is coming to Phoenix with the Ruby Suns on March 14th at the Rhythm Room. I don't know much about the Ruby Suns, but the Toro y Moi album is great. If you like Neon Indian and the such, check out Toro y Moi which is the same style but much much better in my opinion. Tickets are only $8 and $10 the day of the show. Who's down?

Also, Yacht and Washed Out Wed Mar 24th at the Black Forrest Mill should be good too. Tickets are $12. I'm thinking about trying to attend this one as well.

Edit...and I'm listening to the Ruby Suns right now and really digging it!

Okay, let's turn this into the Sasquatch thread for a little while because I don't want my conversations with people being bogged down in the Official Sasquatch thread. Who from Phoenix is interested in attending or is definitely attending, particularly Sunday's awesomeness of Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem, and Simian Mobile Disco? I know Mark and Jason (possibly Dylan?) are going. Are you guys getting an RV? Give me details on your travel arrangements. I'll reveal my motivations in due time...

I'm out but I went in 2007 and had a blast. I think you should go for all 3 days if you are going to trek it out there. I expect it to be difficult but not impossible to catch a ride if you don't show up in Seattle on Fri or early Sat. You can always rent a car and drive out there but then you would have to get your own camping pass which is an extra $100 on site, Wild horse camping is sold out from what I understand. We stayed in the Gorge campgrounds in 2007. To fly into Seattle Sun, drive out to the Gorge, party all day, then turnaround at midnight-1am to drive back to Seattle would be hardcore.

I have a 3 day pass a camping ticket for Wild Horse for our car that includes me, Joel, Tommy and Jason. We will not be getting an RV. Someone will be renting a car and we will most likely all be meeting at the airport. The Gorge is about a 2 hour drive from Seattle. I arrive early on Friday at around 3PM while others will most likely be arriving later in the evening though none of them have purchased their airfare as of yet. The plan will probably be to meet up with others at a local grocery store (stop for cooler, ice, beer, food) then drive to Wild Horse (it's about 1 mile from the venue with a bus that runs back and forth though I heard it sold out yesterday). We will set up camp at night which we have done the last two years as well. That's about the extent of it.

Tomas, no way can we make it to all 3 days. Going to the one is still iffy as it is, pending our negotiations with Team Amyzzz. And truth be told, if it isn't Coachella, it's not a festival I want to spend my entire weekend at, especially if I don't care that much about a significant portion of the acts. If Saturday and Monday were in Phoenix, I'd be interested, but it isn't so I'm not. Thanks for the tip, though.

I did it last year and at 90 lbs over weight and it wasn't an issue. I'm sure you will have plenty of "energy". lol

I think it's time you start to consider selling your Roo tickets and getting a flight credit and using it for Seattle. You can go to Roo next year when they feel the pressure to get a better lineup.

Here's the blog about it.

Tempe's Yucca Tap Room has been a Tempe dive bar favorite for years, especially for its live music. (Photo by Benjamin Leatherman)

But now there's a whole lot more on tap.

Earlier this month, owner Rodney Hu unveiled the Yucca's expansion into the space next door, a craft beer and whiskey lounge that can be accessed separately from outside as well as from inside the existing venue. It's a quieter atmosphere, with pool tables and lounge seating.

Now, there are 16 beers on tap (in addition to 12 on tap in the original bar) and 140 different bottled beers, which run the gamut of microbrew and import faves -- Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Stone, Delirium Tremens, Deschutes, Lost Coast, Rogue, and many more.

"Pretty much every beer that was at the Strong Beer Festival, we have," says Hu.

There's also a selection of booze from microdistilleries such as Dry Fly Vodka and Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey, and aged whiskeys from Jameson, Glenlivet, and Chivas.

"We're still in our soft opening and playing around with the mix," Hu says, who plans to rotate the offerings regularly and also host tastings. A grand opening is planned for March 1, and a Big Sky beer tasting is scheduled for March 4.

In about a month, Hu also hopes to begin serving food, including sandwiches, calzones, pizzas, and fried snacks.

The Yucca Tap Room is open daily from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.

of course, roo!!!

Favorite bars/clubs in phoenix?

i'll take a stab at this...

i love the blunt club, which is not an actual club, but a weekly that is thrown at different clubs. they are on myspace & facebook i believe, but it's mainly hip-hop, dnb & dubstep.

i had fun the one time i went to cherry pit lounge on mill for UK thursdays. i knew people who were djing though and i can't speak to what it's like on other nights.

i have had fun at myst, though it's not for the people that's for sure. it's also expensive, but of all the scottsdale bullshit clubs, i have had the most fun here & at the pussycat lounge as well. axis/radius is douche central so only go if you REALLY want to see someone.

bar smith is a neat venue downtown & on saturdays they usually do "solstice", which is a house music weekly.

aura is a good psytrance monthly, add them on facebook. they usually do their events at hookah type lounges or places with middle-eastern food and tend to have things like belly dancers and the more "hippie" edm crowd.

if you are REALLY into the hipster scene you would probably have a blast at the rogue in south scottsdale. it's a tiny place, but lots of people swear by it. i just find a lot of the people obnoxious and the one time i went NO ONE was dancing and they were looking at us snobby like because we were dancing.

as far as concerts... the marquee theatre in tempe is the best place in MY opinion to see your average touring band. they won't house the HUGE arena type shows, but they tend to have a good mix of indie, edm and other types of bands. i personally HATE the dodge theatre as it sounds like there's a giant mute on the stage and it looks smaller than it is, but some people like it. the jobing.com & US airways arenas are both good for larger shows. avoid the clubhouse if you can, place is SHITTY. i've heard good things about the rhythm room, but i've unfortunately never been.

there are lots of dive type bars that will host weeklies or one-off events, so you have to make sure to keep an eye out for events on facebook or something.

*EDITED*

if you're into freak dancing like it ain't no thing and if you're a girl getting felt up all night, head out to the buzz nightclub at scottsdale & shea. i only went there once with some girls from work and i could tell multiple stories about that night for days. wall to wall bitches n' hoes!

devil's martini in north scottsdale is definitely the place to go if you like an older crowd who's interested in status from what i've gathered. i've never been, i just know a lot of people who have gone there or invited me there. it's kinda far for me too.

kazimierz in the old town scottsdale area is fucking awesome if you can afford it. it's a wine bar, but they do have decent priced appetizers and nibbles. it's not a place to go for a full meal in my opinion. i've had a different experience there every time i went too which is rare. i've seen some serious flamenco dancers and various old jazz singers with completely different bands. i really like this place and whenever anyone asks me where they should take a date, i always suggest this place.

gammage auditorium in tempe, arizona was one of frank lloyd wright's last designs. most major musicals and plays tour here. ASU also puts on events as well. i've even seen hip hop so anything goes really!!!

The first time I saw him dj at Rogue, it was very good, but that was about 3 years ago at the peak of Rogue's heyday, when Shake! was still going strong.

I saw him again a year or two back, it wasn't as exciting.

A good mix of the Indie of today and yesteryear...alot of good UK stuff...it's worth checking out, if it's the right crowd then it should be good.

Ok, I'm getting a denial from Jen, and a maybe from Rick. What's up, guys? :)

Sounds like a no. The announcement yesterday was one of the lone bright spots in the shit of a day I had, and when I thought of the possibility of Massive Attack, LCD Soundsystem, and Simian Mobile Disco all playing on the same day, I thought that would be enough to entice Jen to attend. But after mulling it over, Jen reminded me that we resolved to not travel anywhere near as much this year for shows as we did last year, and we already committed to the Chemical Brothers in LA. (Which is a different situation since: a) I've never seen a live Chems show and they're in my top 20; b) it's in LA, where we have friends who can let us stay at their house, thereby saving us the cost of a hotel room; and c) it's on a Saturday and won't take up vacation time, of which Jen apparently doesn't have very much.) The trip to Seattle would require renting a car, two nights in a hotel, and a vacation day.
The biggest draw for me is Massive Attack. If they're headlining Sasquatch, they're doing a major US tour. (Hell, hasn't it been said they're touring the US anyway?) They came here in '06 so fingers are crossed they'll come again. And if not, they'll play somewhere close in California and we can try to make that trip. Or I can do it solo to reward myself for the 10-hour days I'm still fucking pulling at work. LCD will be seen at Coachella (and hopefully the Marquee if they end up doing a proper tour and visit Arizona) and SMD isn't so important an act to me that I need to go out of my way to see them.

So, sorry, Amy.

Rick, why did you send me an email for viagra?

SOOO on this...Tree would love it, thanks for the tip.
Marc-- Jacob and I went to Aura last month, and it was a lot of fun. They played Psy Goa early on, and more upbeat House later on (Madonna's Ray of Light was mixed in, lol). Lots of crazy art and lights were set up in the belly-dancing studio and a bunch of lit-up hula loops were available for anyone to use (I think). They don't serve alcohol though, only soft drinks. When we were there, the promoter was complaining that there weren't enough people, but it looked like a good crowd to me and the vibe was great -- lots of people dancing. And they have a stage to the side set up with low table and pillows to relax on, and you can smoke the hookahs over there.

Sounds like a no....

That sounds like a great scene for us, Amy. No alcohol is cool...we don't always drink when we go out, and Tree is sneaky with a flask if we're in the mood. Actually, her favorite drink is rum & root beer, but most bars don't have root beer, so that might be perfect.

A question for the ladies... I'm being set up on a Jewish blind date. I was thinking of taking this nice girl to dinner at like Pita Jungle or Cafe Boa in Tempe and then walking around Mill ave afterword (people watching, drinks, dessert, clubs, etc). Does this sound like a good idea or does it sound boring? If you were being taken out on a blind date for the first time would have a suggestion on what to do or where to go?

Not that I'm a lady, but...sounds fine...you just want to make sure the volume level in your dinner location is low enough that you can talk. Facing a stranger and trying to eat while it's too loud to talk is a recipe for a big bowl of awkward soup. The walking around is good, because you can keep talking and you aren't locked into one thing.

So, how do you know she's nice? Have fun...

Journalists were treated to a meatless lunch at the event, in honor of Paul's strict vegetarianism.

Paul McCartney will open his upcoming "Up And Coming" tour at Glendale's Jobing.com Arena. The former Beatle will play a show at the hockey arena on Sunday, March 28.

The news, which was officially announced at a press conference this afternoon, was hinted at by Danny Zelisko at Saturday night's Mariah Carey show at Dodge Theatre.

Mac's tour will also take him to the Hollywood Bowl and Mexico.

That is goign to be a total nightmare. The WWE shit is going on at University of Phoenix stadium the same night.

damn...that does suck. i'd probably go to that show, since i missed him at coachella, but not if WWE is right next door at same time. that's waaay too many (drunk) people in one place at one time.

lol

i'm not going...too much of a hassle. just the amount of people that will be at the McCartney show will cause traffic delays. add WWE idiots to that (no offense mark, lol) and you'll be in that parking lot for 2+ hrs after the show.

plus, that arena sux ass for sound quality.

It happened sometime between 2am Saturday night, and 2pm Sunday afternoon. I'm betting it was closer to the 2am.

EDIT- she just resurfaced on a loaner phone. So, she's not dead. That's good news.

I told my mom about the McCartney show. She's always been a big Beatles fan, so I think I'll be getting a few tickets for us. Jet! I foresee a giant riot of McCartney fans vs. WWE fans post shows. Blood will run deep in Glendale.

Why do High On Fire have to play the same night as Shearwater/Wye Oak?

Come April 22 I will be at the Rhythm Room for the latter, dreaming of also being at the Clubhouse for the former.

I hate the name "Twilight Sad." They could sound better than Radiohead x Portishead and I'd still never listen to them because of that stupid fucking name.

A coworker of mine excitedly told me about the Paul McCartney show this morning. She was the one who got jealous of me attending Coachella last year. (Everyone else responded with blank stares when I told them where I was going and who I was seeing.) Of course, that was solely due to Macca's appearance, but still. She'll be there; I'll be at WrestleMania with my dad. If any McCartney-going beatniks try to talk smack, I'm going to have to crack their skulls. (I'm looking at YOU, Bogaloo.)

Got my Coachella ticket in the mail, like, a month ago. Did you just order yours?

You had the right code Micah. If you didn't it wouldn't have searched and came up empty. I had a ticket in my cart that i could have purchased for you had you been in the Macca thread at the right time. The code PMFAN did in fact work though.
