i've never had any issue with getting my tickets at will call. that's how i always get tix at marquee. go there at least once a month...

as long as you see the charge on your card, matt, you're fine. and provided you don't get there within the first hour of the venue being open, you won't have to wait in line to get your tix. most people i've ever had in front of me to get will call were 3 people.

I'm going to SY too. I'll keep an eye out for McCabe and I think I have Sin's #. I don't think I've met anyone else.

And I highly recommend driving the PCH up to around SF. The northern part of the state is a pretty annoying drive, though. I was coming from Oregon headed towards Santa Cruz and decided to cut over to the coast early and take the PCH since I had loved the lower half so much. It took me 8 hours to get from Eureka to Santa Cruz. And that's with me cutting through some farmtowns to get back to the freeway after about 6 hours. Basically, all you do is wind up beach cliffs at 35 miles and hour, then you come back down, catch a glimpse of the ocean for 5 seconds, and start winding back up another cliff.

But yeah...driving thru Big Sur is one of my favorite things.

Photo radar going away?

January 3, 2010
Arizona May Abandon Speed Cameras on Highways
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
PHOENIX (AP) — More than a year after Arizona became the first state in the country to deploy dozens of speed cameras on highways statewide, threats to the groundbreaking program abound.

Profits are far below expectations, a citizen effort to ban the cameras is gaining steam, the governor has said she does not like the program, and more and more drivers are ignoring the tickets they get in the mail after hearing from fellow speeders that there are often no consequences to doing so.

“I see all the cameras in Arizona completely coming down ” in 2010, said Shawn Dow, chairman of Arizona Citizens Against Photo Radar, which is trying to get a measure banning the cameras on the November ballot. “The citizens of Arizona took away the cash cow of Arizona by refusing to pay.”

The Arizona Department of Public Safety introduced the cameras in September 2008 and slowly added more until all 76 were up and running by January.

Supporters say the cameras slow down drivers and reduce accidents, but opponents argue that they are intrusive and are more about making money than safety.

More than 300 communities in 25 states use cameras similar to Arizona’s, including New York, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. But the backlash seems to be particularly intense in Arizona. Some people have shown their distaste with the cameras by covering them with boxes, sticky notes and Silly String. In locally infamous cases, one man took a pickax to a camera and another purposefully set off the cameras dozens of times while wearing a monkey mask.

Lt. Jeff King, photo enforcement district commander for the Department of Public Safety, said his agency just wanted drivers to go the speed limit and did not understand all the backlash.

“Instead of spending so much time focusing on getting rid of cameras, why don’t they focus on the real problem, the root problem, which is getting people to drive the speed limit?" Lieutenant King said. “If everyone was to drive the speed limit, the cameras would never flash.”

The cameras led to more than 700,000 tickets to drivers going 11 miles per hour or more over the speed limit from September 2008 to September 2009, the most recent data available, according to the Department of Public Safety. The mandated fines and surcharges on all those tickets would total more than $127 million, but they had generated just $36.8 million through September, Lieutenant King said.

Some of the people who got those tickets are contesting them in court and could end up having to pay the fine, but many of them have gone unpaid because drivers know they have a good shot at getting away with ignoring them. When people get tickets, they can pay without question, request a court date and fight the ticket, or simply ignore the ticket because law enforcement cannot prove they received it. The ticket becomes invalid if a violator who ignores it is not served in person within three months. It is nearly impossible to say how many people have ignored their tickets because courts do not track the figure.

Whatever the figure, overtaxed process servers cannot get to most of those people, and many of the citations go unpaid. That is part of the reason the speed cameras have not made as much money as expected. While certain to increase, that $36.8 million in revenue through September will still fall far below the $120 million a year that former Gov. Janet Napolitano hoped to put in the state’s coffers when she ordered up the program in early 2007.

The camera operator, Redflex, may not even be breaking even. It cost the company $16 million to install the cameras, and it got back $4.6 million from September 2008 to June, Lieutenant King said.

I flew by a cop the other day on 16th heading south towards baseline going 60 in a 40. He pulled out and got right behind me and then he changed lanes and sped past me. My record of not being pulled over since moving to Arizona still stands. It's been over 9 years now.

The cops still have radar guns on the side of the road though. I have noticed on my way to work there is a cop that sits on 7th St. just south of the I-17/60 overpass. That's the first cop i've seen with a radar gun in ages.

11 of the 12 songs from The Eternal in the main set, along with "Silver Rocket" and "Schizophrenia." The encores were a "Sprawl" & "Cross the Breeze" and then "Shadow" & "White Cross."

shout out to the 11/14 Tucson Drive Mixtape! DEEP CUTS!

lol! I'm glad you liked the mix cd I made for our road trip to Ghostland. Next time we road trip I'll make a few more. Not to toot my own horn, but I have a few friends that always rave about my mix cds. My itunes library is a beast.

Thanks for putting up the setlist John.

Tomas, we had such a fun time last night. You should get a ticket to the Phoenix or St. Vincent show. It was great seeing everyone there and meeting M Sparks. The Phoenix show will be here before we know it.

absinthe is weird...i have some "good" absinthe i imported from france, but the stuff is strong as hell...like everclear/rubbing alcohol. i can't drink enough of it to really feel any of the euphoric effects of the ingredients.

Mr. Dylanja

Did you pour it over a sugar cube and mix it with water? The pamphlet MEIN came with said for every shot you should mix in four shots of water.

sin213
01-06-2010, 10:19 AM
yep, poured water into glass. used the absinthe spoon that came with it to put the sugar cube on it, pour absinthe over, then light cube and melt/carmalize it down into the drink like the instructions with mine said...it was still way too strong for me to drink enough to feel it...

In fact, one guy got kicked out for drumming his hands on the stage and if I recall correct Beck encouraged it. That place usually has theater performances.

A fasciculation [fə.ˌsɪk.ju.ˈleɪ.ʃən] (or "muscle twitch") is a small, local, involuntary muscle contraction (twitching) visible under the skin arising from the spontaneous discharge of a bundle of skeletal muscle fibers. Indian Bend = card room = that's where I'll be.

I've came up the last couple times there playing the 5-500 game.

Quick bad beat story - I buy in for $250, build it up to around 8-hundo, get dealt pockets 10s. Flop comes 7-10-7. Flop gets checked, turn card is a blank, dude bets out, I raise him, he comes over the top and goes all in for about 650 total. I call, he flips over pockets 7s, I miss the case 10 on the river for the bad beat jackpot. i get pissed.

I then went and played 1-2 and came up on the night so it wasnt that bad. Still though, there was about 1600 in that pot when all was said and done. Never have I won money at the casino and still felt like I had lost.

Dylan flopped a full boat and thought he was golden, not realizing the other guy flopped quad sevens. If the river had been the last 10 he would have won. oh, i need at least 2 bedrooms. i am doing condo life for the first time in years, i don't mind the sharing walls so much, but my place is falling apart and my landlord doesn't seem interested in fixing it, or answering any of my emails.

You can live in the hood like me. I'm at 48th st and baseline in a giant ole complex. Just yesterday my roommate was checking the mail and a guy pulled up in a van asking him if he knew anyone selling percocets. Joel was pretty angry about it but I told him he sucked because he should know our other roommate Cesar had some to sell.

We have a 3 bedroom and pay $920 a month.

i work at 48th and university, that might be a great option, i could sleep an extra 15 minutes. Although then I would have to find a new bar. Hey, two birds, one stone. YES!!!

I don't go to bars anymore but Gallaghers is at 32nd St. and Baseline. The other direction you have The Woodshed I think and then Doc and Eddies. They are both near Baseline and Mill / Baseline Rural area.

yeah, figured you would. there is a 2 bedroom in the complex too, that isn't much more than my place. dunno if they've lowered the rent cause they can't get it rented out or what...

The place i'm at must also have subsidized housing and they give employee discounts. I save 10% because I work for the county. I know they have an e-telecare discount as well.

They are Brookstone at the Foothills. Definitely not the safest place in the world but there are a lot of kids around too so it isn't that bad. I rather enjoy it. It's one of the few places in Phoenix I have found a lot of people of color. I go crazy if all I see is white.

Well I have given the landlord a week to respond to all of my requests. Thank you guys for the info, I will be checking them out.

Although, strangely enough I have been to all of those bars Mark, and have never lived in the area. Go figure....

Yeah, they are everywhere right now unfortunately, or I guess fortunately for me right now huh? I just need a place where I can get a hot shower for more than 5 minutes, don't have to reset my breaker every few hours, and can turn on the garbage disposal... Oh and no leaky roof... i could go on but I wont.

D$, explain to me the 5-500 game please. I may be interested in joining you tomorrow evening.

Some law only allows a max bet of $500 for all table games in AZ. 5-500 is essentially the closest you can get to playing NLH here in AZ. $5 is least you can bet at any time and $500 is the most you can bet. It should be noted that if somebody bet $500 and you had enough in front of you, you could raise another $500 and so on. It's the max bet.

There are three different 5-500 at Casino AZ, each with different blind levels which general dictates the average buy-in to the game.

There's 1-2, average buy-in about $100, max buy in $300.

3-5, average buy in $300, max $500.

5-10, average $600, max $1000 (I think)

The 1-2 game is what I moved to after my bad beat. Pretty cool game, like most, the amount of action depends quite a bit on your particular table. However, with the blinds being only 1 and 2 dollars it was actually cheaper than a 3-6 game. You can see several flops for $2. The problem is when you do pick up a good hand there's a fine line on how much to raise while still keeping people in the hand. Normal raise would probably be $7-10 with $15-20 being considered a huge raise.

This is the game that they play at the cash room I was telling you about. Although most of the guys there throw out a straddle bet if in 3rd position or whatever you call it. It is a pretty good group of guys but some of them play angry boy poker, which is not really my game (needless to say).

Thanks for the explanation D$. It will probably be a game time decision. I'm scoping out Craigs List for used PS3 bundles but I may say eff that and hit the Casino. I've given up on online poker now that Pokerstars no longer does direct deposits to my account. I have no interest in waiting a week or more for a check to come in the mail. :nono

I just wish the drinks were free at Casino AZ.
