Yeah, that's what I did when I remembered I didn't have any way to pay for a cracked skull. But I was trying to hold my ground for a while. I also got, like, 5 watery beers splashed on me at various times.

Oh, and the song you love is called "Murderous". They also did "Let Your Body Learn", "Control, I'm Here", "Lightning Man", "Hearts & Minds", "For Fun", "Ascend", "Godhead", "Getting Closer", "Blood Money", and "I Give To You". (Not in that order). Pretty much all the "hits" except "Family Man" and "Fun To Be Had". Nothing off their last 90's album. There were about 5 or 6 new ones- they were all decent, but none of them really stood out I thought.

I didn't realize (i'm not saying his name on purpose) that rapper guy with all the Sheriff trouble was so broke he required free representation. His file is on my desk. Apparently after more than a year of representing him he finally has cash again because he hired his own lawyer now. His file is huge. The police report is fascinating.

I was at the Paradise Valley mall a couple years ago and all these people where rushing around looking for some celebrity. The scene at the mall was one of near riot. Then, I spot some dude walking towards me with a small entourage. He looks familiar, then I realize. DMX. I guess it stroked his ego to be chased around the mall by tweens.

You just have to pay attention I think. I saw Kevin Johnson (old suns point guard) running the steps at camelback mountain. And I saw Ron Jeremy at Pep Boys in Hollywood about a month ago. He was in there buying tires, and he was pissed.

I remember working in Wherehouse in Flagstaff around '94 and one of the guys came in to put up a flier for a gig. I said "Oh did you name yourself after that cartoon?" and he told me that old story about how one of their little brothers drew this clever drawing of him eating the world. I thought about saying "Well, HE stole it from a cartoon", but I figured I'd let him have his story. I didn't know they'd get famous and we'd have to put up with that name for 15 years. Maybe if I had intervened, "Ned's Atomic Dustbin" would still be the worst band name of the 90s.

Loca, he's going to be 30 in a couple months. He's been my slave for the past 10 years and never really saw a use for strip clubs. He didn't care for it much; he seemed more interested in the hot Jamaican co-worker that came with them than in any of the strippers ("the drunker she got, the more her British accent came through!"). I haven't been to a strip club.

I've never gone to a strip club. I might have gone as a kid if I was the type of kid who had a fake ID, but by the time I was 21 I wasn't interested anymore.

It just seems silly to go now. It's like finishing up Proust's "In Search Of Lost Time", and then picking up a copy of "Goodnight Moon". My wife went to the scary one in Flagstaff a few times because she had a friend who could get them free drinks...I was going to come along at some point but then we moved.

You didn't mention that the other part of the double feature was Forbidden Zone! I've never seen it on the big screen. I think I will try to go tonight. Starts at 9, actually.

I attended probably too many shows this year (27 including Coachella) and want to cut back next year, what with having to save up for the wedding and all. But I want to still allow myself some travelling and so I decided I would hinder myself to my top 20 artists. Most are unlikely -- not counting on the Knife or a Kinks reunion -- and others are absolutely not going to happen -- Nirvana, the Beatles, Velvet Underground -- so that takes my list down even further. It got me to thinking who my top 20 were, though, and while my top 10 has been locked in place for a while, 11-20 is a little more difficult to rank and determine.

1. Nirvana
2. Radiohead
3. Portishead
4. Bob Dylan
5. Fiona Apple
6. The Velvet Underground
7. The Beatles
8. Daft Punk
9. The Knife
10. Nine Inch Nails

Damn, my break's over, but perhaps it's for the best because I'd need to mull who is in the next 10. Arcade Fire, Massive Attack, the Kinks, Cat Power, definitely. Don't know if I'd rank LCD Soundsystem that high but I plan on seeing them next year. Hopefully they'll be at Coachella. Sigur Ros?

Who would be the 20 bands you would limit yourself to seeing if you had to?

I think they charge less than Ticketmaster. I hate Ticketmaster's way of hiding good tix until last minute, only to try and sell the least disired locations in large venues. TooL for example... People were waiting in line for floor and couldn't get them, then I was able to get a pair of floor tix months after I already purchased seats. That is really lame. They did the same for the Eric Clapton tix I got my parents for XMas, I actually called them and got them to upgrade the seats.

EDIT: I haven't had the best experiences there.

Things I like about the Marquee:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs show in June
Sound
Floor dips so my wife can see

Things I don't like:
Security staff
Taking shoes off to get in
ID check process
Inflated drink prices
Parking (how they took over the public park next door still boggles my mind)
Location; how can a venue with such a great location be so hard to get to?
Jerk box office staff
Jerk promoter

...other than that the place is great! Haha.

I can afford it. I was just going to do it last night but I got a new cell phone "droid" and couldn't stop playing with it, then I went to purchase and it was too late. I'll be getting mine tomorrow on line. I'll be at work.

Stateside, the promoters who are putting on the Phoenix show, also run venues in Albuquerque so maybe there is a chance.

Thanks Loca, I'm just wondering if seeing it in 3D at a regular theater is equal to seeing it in 3D at IMAX. I have heard various opinions. I'm not really into sci-fi or computer animated movies outside the kid ones made by Pixar but there is so much hype it is making me interested.

those first two, sure. it is a pain. the parking garage was the BEST thing they ever did. walking from the Monti's parking lot to the marquee and back SUCKED ASS. and they didn't take it over, they have an agreement with the complex to rent it out starting at like 630-7pm on nights they have shows. and the id check is incredibly quick and easy...dunno what you're talkin about.

i don't drink much, so drink prices never bothered me and I don't know what you mean about the box office staff and promoter. sure they don't ask you how your day was going, but who cares? give me my tickets and let me get inside...the line moves faster that way.

sound in the Marquee is very decent, though there are some dead spots. there are about 3 main locations i stand in there to record that have wonderful sound.

you definitely want to see it in 3D. i saw the preview for it in 3d at another 3d movie and it was stunning. i will not be seeing it until after the new year, though, as it will be packed thru the holidays. whenever the theatre is that full there is always at least a few assholes in there that insist on talking or their phones ring...plus with being the holidays there will be at least a few others that drag their kids along. i'm not paying $10+ to put up with that shit...

I'm not talking about the parking garage north of the venue, I am talking about the City of Tempe public park east of the Marquee. It is SE corner of Mill and Washington. Somehow I don't think this is right, they struck an agreement to charge for parking in a public park with the City of Tempe? I guess stranger things have happened.

Also, since they started checking ids with a computer scanner for fakes the line to get your id checked is long, fact.

ah, that lot. yeah, i guess its weird they could close off a public lot and force people to pay. i get what you're saying about that. they don't use that lot anymore, though, do they? ...now that they have the garage to the north...

hardly. its one of the best in the valley, not counting "high-end theatres" like The Orpheum or Arts venues. among the regular locations for shows, including clubs, bars, theatres, arenas, pavillions, etc, it is one of the best. its a good mix of size, decent sound, and accessibility.

The only place i would prefer to see a show other than Marquee would be Mesa Amp (though it might qualify as a high end pavillion since its a part of the Mesa Arts Center as well). Other than that, most of the venues have poor configuration for viewing and/or poor sound and/or poor sound techs that don't know how to mix sound.

I would agree that the clubhouse is one of the worst venues in the valley, though.

Best ampitheater in the state has to be the AVA Amp at Casino Del Sol. I saw Tori Amos there in 2003 or so and the sound was amazing. It was brand new at the time. I don't hear of many shows there but I wish there were more.
