mountmccabe

Would you rather you take her or some sketchy older sibling, etc of one of her friends?

And she's showing an interest in live music, which I, personally, would be thrilled about. What's more she, presummably, wants to go because it's a band or bands she, herself, likes.

And you can't force good taste on someone. You can show them options but if you don't let her make choices then she's not going to learn what she likes, to learn discernment on her own... she'll only learn to fake it, to pretend.

Disclaimer: I don't have any kids. I don't know your daughter. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Note: I wish I was able to go to more embarassing shows when I was a kid. A small part of me wishes I could've seen Swans and Pere Ubu and the Replacements and Spacemen 3 and such at that age but really I know I wouldn't've liked them back then.

Mark is an intelligent but shy teenager who has just moved to Arizona from the East Coast. His parents give him a short-wave radio so he can talk to his pals, but instead he sets up shop as pirate deejay Hard Harry, who becomes a hero to his peers while inspiring the wrath of the local high school principal. When one of Harry's listeners commits suicide and Harry- inspired chaos breaks out at the school, the authorities are called in to put a stop to Harry's broadcasts

Hahahaha. What's funny about that is we went to Genghis Grill and had really bad service. They didn't bring mob's food till we were ready to leave so he ended up leaving like a $2 tip on a ~$40 bill. Yes, it called Andrew to mind.

Nope, not me. Me and sin met up though. If you are facing the stage, we were on the left side of the soundboard against the rail surrounding the soundboard.

I concur the sound was shitty. I thought MGMT really picked up the energy second half of the set though. If I would have known I would have given you guys my phone number and we could have met up. alright, lets lay off Chan and hope she gets well soon..

From Pitchfork:

...Cat Power, who had to cancel a gig last night (April 17) in Tempe, Arizona and six more upcoming engagements. The reason? Chan Marshall has damaged her vocal chords, and her doctor has ordered her to lay off the singing thing for a couple weeks. Oh no!...According to Matador, Chan's doctor will reassess her vocal cord situation after this little time-out and decide whether she needs to rest further. There are also plans afoot to reschedule the cancelled dates for later this year. Phew.

oh you're going to get me started on my neighbor Sherriff Joe.

I would like to punch him in the mouth. He's about as close to a modern day fascist as we're likely to see in our lifetime. He claims to be all about keeping law and order and yet the Constitution means nothing to him. Those sweeps in the hispanic neighborhoods looked and smelled like police-state tactics.

Arpaio's popularity is really disheartening, but I guess no shock in a state that elected Evan Meacham governor. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised that Gordon is taking such a strong stand against him. Hopefully it will amount to something.

Meanwhile, the legislature is busy righting the wrongs of society:

State lawmakers on Monday gave their final blessing to a bill that would allow promoters to host a more violent brand of cage fighting in Arizona, such as the popular Ultimate Fighting Championship contests seen on Spike TV.

"Rage in the Cage" events have been held in the state for years, but current rules bar fighters from elbowing, kneeing an opponent in the face or striking a grounded opponent with a closed fist.

House Bill 2834 sponsored by Rep. Jonathan Paton, R-Tucson, would relax some of those rules but require stricter regulations when it comes to licensing, insurance, and medical evaluations and aid. The legislation calls for the Arizona State Boxing Commission to adopt mixed-martial-arts rules that are used in New Jersey, Nevada and other states.

The Senate passed the bill on a 21-8 vote on Monday.

It now heads to Gov. Janet Napolitano for her signature.

i got out of class early and probably could have gone, but i hit up RAW in scottsdale at medizona's instead. i'm glad he ACTUALLY showed and ACTUALLY played cause the last few times i've gone to see him he hasn't. and they didn't end up charging cover at the door which was awesome. i don't know if anyone has ever been to medizona's, but it was pretty cool, kinda small though.

God I wish it worked that way. These particular in-laws don't seem to like babysitting much although they do like to see our girls. My daughter is also performing on piano that afternoon, so we will probably have to reserve the evening for visiting with the in-laws.

I am interested in the Pizzeria Bianco outing.

I would, however, recommend against combining it with the Tom Waits shows, though, as that's going to add extra constraints to an already tight time schedule. That being said, if y'all can figure it out and get it going, I'm in.

Else I'd be up for meeting otherwhere for dinner before Tom Waits, even for allowing non-Waits-attending folk to participate.

Maybe Carly's Bistro (http://carlysbistro.com/), My Florist Cafe (http://www.myfloristcafe.com/), Asadero Norte del Sonora (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&geocode=&q=restaurant&near=203+W+Adams+St,+Phoenix,+AZ&jsv=110a&sll=33.44928,-112.07653&sspn=0.008307,0.014591&ie=UTF8&latlng=33449680,-112047787,14914785508088366062&ei=J0QiSNHPMY2gjgG669FJ&sig2=-3JRt54WC2ECaUjA22siPQ&cd=239) (for the slightly adventurous), Ticoz (http://www.ticozofarizona.com/) or the Sonora Brewhouse (http://sonorabrewhouse.com/sonora/)?

Yep, I remember liking it at the time. Their fans were really young. I really think they were like Rage for little kids. When they were done the place emptied out and I was superclose for matthew sweets set which was damn good. I've seen him about 5 times and they were always free shows. Pretty cool. This was back when "superdeformed" was a hit I think.

I like/have liked a good deal of local bands. You have to be willing to see them at places like the Modified and the Trunk Space, though.

Whoah! The Autism benefit show that Colorstore is playing on May 24 is at Johnny's Uptown which is at 22nd Street and Cave Creek! That is right by me!

EDIT: Oh, wait. Maybe it is at Center and Camelback? That would make more sense.

So I just saw in the NT Kaskade is spinning at Myst 2moro.

Have you seen him? How is he? What should I expect?

Thanks!

and i'll be at the blunt club tonight for flying lotus and the 6 year anniversary, holla!

I kinda wanna go to this tonight as well. Good lineup. If I do and I see you, I'm gonna holla. Don't shank me.

Most people don't. Local scene been dead since forever unless your counting Jimmy Eat World and Linkin Park.

They're local??

How close is Myst to Tranzylvania? Jen's dragging me there to Goth-watch after dinner tonight, but if Kaskade is playing late, perhaps we can go there as well. I suppose I can just ask this question in person in ~9 hours.

myst is in old town scottsdale and tranzylvania is downtown i believe (never been). i think it's off of central or something. probably a good 20 minutes away from each other. i don't know when kaskade would go on though.

Chester lived here for a spell. He auditioned for a friend of mine and his band. I remember bumping into him, coming out of the audition. He wasn't picked. Not long after, he was in Linkin Park.

i wonder if that's why he plays with z-trip sometimes. their set at coachella was god awful. z-trip just does fine without that douchebag.

So Tom Waits tickets go on sale in 30 minutes. They're $90 each. And from the reports on the other shows in the other thread in the other lounge they're going quick. I think I am not going to have to go without.

Also I kinda want to go to the restaurant y'all're going to tonight and sit at another table and not say hi. And maybe if y'all're gonna take a picture try to stand in the background rubbing my nipples.

I logged onto Ticketmaster at 12:03, secured my ticket at 12:04, and it's in the Balcony. apparently the floor sold out in 4 minutes or less.

Yeah, I was there. I saw you at the end of the night in the DnB room but you were in the middle of a conversation with some people and I didn't wanna come out of nowhere all goofy "hey you're that girl from the coachella board" and shit. I figured I'd just catch you outside when everyone was leaving but then my ride was ready to dip. Next time, fo sho.

Flying Lotus was sick!

Fountain Hills isn't really that far from me. I'd rather commute there than my current workplace.

Yeah, dinner was fun. Sorry we were late. We were actually trying to find an atm, but the one-way streets and construction defeated us.
