did you make it down to PHX yet or still up North?

I'm basically here. Still technically homeless until maybe Sunday. Renting a house way down near Warner and Greenfield because that's where my wife is working now. (I work out of the house so it doesn't matter.)

If I was still in Flagstaff, I'd be out for Flag Art Walk and Electric Kingdom tomorrow, but I'm not, so I'm going to trust you guys to blow that shit out of the water. Where's the FF meet up? I'll probably not be out too late because I have to go up north Sat morning to get the rest of my crap, but I'm looking forward to meeting a few more AZ Coachella peeps.

EDIT- I never say peeps. WTF?

I'm going to take the lead and say we're meeting at Carly's. I want me some absinthe. (Perhaps you can notice a trend here, where I get authoritative about where we meet based on where I can get the strong drinks that satiate the beast.) As for what time, let's hear from everyone who's going as to what time they would be available. The earliest I'd be able to get there is 5:30 but I can stay at work a little late and score some OT if most everyone else can't get there or doesn't want to meet till some time later.

M Sparks

Would this be Carly's Bistro at 128 E Roosevelt? I typed "Carlys" into google and hit go, realized that wouldn't be enough info, and this address popped up on top. Kinda spooky.

I can meet whenever...was supposed to pick up keys to the new house at 5, but I don't think that is going to happen now.

Texas interruption / I turn on the heat when it gets below 60 degrees in the house. The highest I ever set it is 63. And I turn it off at night. Since I'm always up before the husband, I click it on in the morning so he doesn't freeze when he gets up. /end Texas interruption.

It is 15 degrees colder downstairs then up, I finally had to close the vent in my room and sleep with the window open because in order for it to be a comfortable heat in the living room it is 85 degrees in my room. I told the kids though that if they turn the thermostat up above 68 one more time I will put a lock on it. I woke up hung over one morning and they had the heat set to 78 which meant it was 90 in my room. Worst way to wake up EVER.

Christmas On Mars is the movie Wayne Coyne directed. You can see bits of the filming in Fearless Freaks. There's a trailer on the DVD version of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. What I'm saying is they've been working on it forever. It finally premiered at Sasquatch and now it is being played in various indie/art theaters around the country in a very limited fashion. It is very cool that Phoenix is getting a showing. I am sure it is an absolutely out there movie. I am excited.

Hey Rick/Jen, do you have the new album by the Flaming Lips? I would request bringing it so that we might listen to it on the trip to/from. I still'ven't heard it. I am saying this here because I will probably forget tonight if I make it out tonight.

faxman75
12-04-2009, 10:14 AM
It actually premiered at Sasquatch in 2008 when they performed, so not only did this thing take a decade to make but an extra year and a half before it got shown in a theater. For some reason I have lost all desire to see this.

The most eventful NYE I had was watching PBS and candyflipping. Violinist Joshua Bell on PBS FTW. I wish there was something to do here. My work makes it so I can't possibly travel anywhere else for NYE (I can't take that day off until I've been working here 25+ years).

I plan to be drunk, high, wired or rollin. Where I plan on doing that is still up in the air though. I want to stick close to home but don't want to end up doing the same shit I always do. So I am on the fence. It's just so expensive usually to go to clubs, and then the drive home is not a good idea, DD or not, there are other drunks on the road. So I will probably end up at peppers lol.

Yes, I know. I was more interested in seeing this at one of the festivals like Sasquatch or Lollapalooza or on a big screen somewhere. The organization was ridiculous for getting into a tent at one of the festivals so I never had the chance and I lost more interest in the Lips every day. I have seen them a couple of times now and I will always love Yoshimi and the Soft Bulletin but that's where it seems to end with me.

LOL no problem. It's probably better that you didn't come out, it was a little ugly. The lead singer is an old guy who is still stuck in the 80's. He has the long stringy black dyed hair with a receding hairline and wears leather pants which makes him sweat profusely. He gives out beeds though if you want to show your boobs.

We did end up at Northstar Saturday night though, it was a fairly good time and they have like $1 draft beers and a dj with wierd strobe lights. It worked well. :thu

Passion Pit are very fun live. White Rabbits were ok, but they need to chill out on the whole "big drum" thing. They do it on every song, and by the 5th song, they had all ran together because they sounded so much alike. I officially hate the Clubhouse and have proposed a name change to Cocknockers.

I have studied Pollock immensely. I have done research on plenty of abstract artists, and many of them are not as pure abstraction as my style, hence the Pollock comparison.

My process is different than Pollocks, but the end result for the viewer is the same. All of my paintings come from a deep understanding of what emotionally drives me, and I try and channel that when I am doing my work. I will focus on those intense moments that last a lifetime, and I try to project myself there again in my mind. I will spend as much time as it takes to mentally to get there, no matter how painful or difficult.

When I am there, astrally projected, and I have returned to the moment, I let the paint fly.

The next step is to do the paintings, in that moment, rather than trying to meditate myself back to that inspiring moment (i.e. painting in the Sahara, at Coachella, surrounded by all of this. The exact moment I am trying to channel).

I'm pretty sure my friend's mom is (maybe was) his dentist. You can't find an email address thru suns.com? We actually used to get hooked up with his seats when the Suns were shitty.

My bedroom has an access panel to the attic, I have never been up there because attics are scary, but I could hear the wind howling from up there all night which in turn made my bedroom door continually rattle. My dad's favorite Suns player ever is Mark West. He's asked for a Mark West Phoenix Suns tshirt/jersey in the past and I've never been able to find one. I was just hoping someone in the organization (or Mark himself) would be able to help me find one. All I can find are some of his old basketball cards, which my dad could give a shit about.

Hmm, altho it wouldn't be 100% authentic I would say get one custom made at the team shop. Last time I was there they had a seperate area specifically for custom jerseys. Fans could get their name on a suns jersey with the number of their chocie. The old throwback jerseys (the ones West used to wear) were also an option.

Is this an option for other types of jerseys or just the suns? I was looking for a specific football jersey but had no luck at NFL.com, can they be made somewhere, you know, without me having to fly to NY?

They only do custom jerseys during games right outside the Suns Team Shop at US Airways Center, so you probably have to have a ticket to the game.

Mark West operates basketball camps at the Salvation Army facility at 13th St and Broadway. He is there a lot of his free time. You might be able to catch him mid-day. He is pretty nice in-person. If someone knows of a place to have a gathering, a house or something, I would be more then willing to offer up some party supplies, beer, food or whatever. I would offer up my place but it's very small and I would have to fight the teens for it. If I don't find something else I will end up at the same bar with the same people, which isn't a horrible option but the band they have is not one that I really enjoy, and I have to limit the amount of enjoyment I have around some of those people.

The Flaming Lips are one of the few bands who know how to make a cover interesting then add the spectacle of a Lips show to it all and it sounds like a great time to me. More so than a regular lips setlist that has Wayne talking non stop between stripped down versions of some of their best songs. I would have taken this performance over what we saw earlier this year if given the choice.

Plus there isn't even any amtrak going through Phoenix. They list it as an option on the site when you book tickets, but there isn't. Flagstaff has one, I don't know about anywhere else.

I didn't read the article, but I would assume they would need to construct a new track. Amtrak runs on the freight lines, at least out here.

I took Amtrak from Flagstaff to Portland once. The Flag to LA route was OK...it's about 10 hours overnight, so you just sleep through it. Then, it's OK fora few hours outside of LA...like up to Santa Barbara. After that, it's a nightmare. It's pretty common for the train to just stop for an hour or more at random. Got to Portland about 3 hours late...coming back it was running ELEVEN hours late by San Luis Obispo. I found out later it's because Flag to LA is BNSF tracks, which they have a good relationship with, and Santa Barbara to Portland is Union Pacific. UP wants out of their contract, so they make them yield to all freight trains no matter what. In some cases, that means they have to sit 90 minutes so they don't delay the freight 5 minutes.

(LA to Santa Barbara is CalTrans and is intended for commuters.)

EDIT- and the reason Phoenix is listed is because they offer bus service to other locations. If you booked a ticket from, say, PHX to Chicago, you would be bused to Flagstaff and then take the train the rest of the way. If you were going to Texas, you'd bus to Tucson or something.

Download and extract this (http://isohunt.com/download/137908089/MRI.torrent), burn it to a disc and boot to it, choosing the option to "Boot To MRI PE." Provides automated tests and repair of hardware, drivers, malware, almost everything.

Now THAT is fucking handy. I never created the restore discs on my pc and 4 months after I purchased it, it wouldn't start up, it just beeped at me and gave me a C drive prompt or something. Finally after an hour I got it to boot from it's internal restore but there were so many damaged sectors (i'm not a tech but I think that's what I remembered the screen saying) it kept stalling out, rebooting and then I would have to start the whole process over. Luckily after about 5 hours it finally made it through the entire restore process without freezing up.

I'll have to download that and burn it to a disc for future use.

Trains go in straight lines. (Well, kinda).

There's a train that goes from LA to Chicago...that goes through Flagstaff. There's another one that goes from LA to...maybe New Orleans? Maybe that one goes through Maracopa. There are very few places out west where multiple train lines meet...LA, maybe Seattle...

There might be some other way to connect...despite the fact that I have argued trains with you twice :), I really don't know much about it. But I'm guessing if you hopped on the train in Maricopa and headed east until it stopped, you'd be somewhere in the south.

I'll check for the installation discs when I get home. I'll have to respond tomorrow when I get back to work. Should I assume that Randy's link would allow you to work on my computer even if I didn't have those discs? (I can't check the link out myself because our system denies access to the site.)

Yes, there is data I pretty much NEED to have. Not everything is essential and I've got most of my music on an external hard drive, so there should just be my last few eMusic downloads that are potentially lost, but there are things saved on my hard drive that would be a bitch to have to replace.

the tool that randy suggested would allow you to analyze your computer and its components to determine where the problem lies...i do not believe you would be able to "use" your computer with it, unless it was able to figure out the issue and correct it (such as allow you to rollback corrupt drivers, repair the boot sector, etc)

It handles all the analyzing and automatically fixes what it can. The error he describes can indicate a couple of things: damaged file structure, damaged hard drive, or bad cabling/ports. Anything that's fixable on the software side of things the MRI scan will take care of, including performing as much repairs to the file structure as can be done and writing a new boot sector. If that doesn't resolve the problem and it's not just the IDE/SATA cables he's pretty much fucked anyway. It's gonna be either new HD or completely fresh install time.

Yeah, you'd have to download and burn it to disc on another computer.

Also you don't really need any installation discs specific to that machine. Somebody just needs a Windows XP disc if that even ends up being the problem, which it doesn't sound like it is.

yeah, we can try the program you mentioned randy, and see if it can repair the boot sector. if not, i don't have a copy of XP either. my old computer came with one of those "branded" re-install discs that check to see if it is the computer it came with by looking up a tag number on the computer. and i'm not in the business of downloading and installing bootleg OS's...

This sounds like a convenient excuse to get out of having to do a re-install. =)

Besides, if Rick has a serial sticker on his box then there's nothing illegal about it, you just have to find the installation media for that serial. Four years ought to be an SP2 release.

Eh, in my opinion XP was legit after SP2. There's practically nothing that really needs to be patched beyond that. For specific updates you can always turn the auto update service back on, manually select which ones you want while avoiding the Genuine Advantage one, install them and then turn auto update back off when it's done.
