hooray for the bridge! i wonder when it will actually be done, they've been talking about that forever!

jerome is gorgeous. i did the train tour once.

wedding venues, where you looking, jen? it is quite a raquet. i went to a nice ceremony at the sheraton off of dunlap & the 17 (more your neck of the woods); however it was in may and a bit hot.

i will not be at wilco.

Not sure yet; I don't think I want to do a hotel, golf course, or country club venue; I'm looking for something a bit off kilter, since we're both a bit off kilter ourselves.

you don't need to play their game.

Wait, don't you live in fountain hills? Can we have it at your house?

ha ha ha, i dunno if that's even the train i took, sorry, it was like 16 years ago. perhaps it started in silverton? i don't even remember, but the train goes through jerome at some point.

and i understand, just thought maybe i could help. sometimes tits magically make questions seem less stupid!

and jen, ya know bikini hosts weddings :p

We want to do a short ceremony, shorter than normal reception, and then an after party for the grownups. So maybe...

Mine was like $3000-$4000, and $2500 was dinner and booze. There's no reason to spend a ridiculous amount on a wedding.

And I used to do wedding videos...I stopped because the clients were so fricking cheap. They would spend $1500 on a cake that's gone in an hour without blinking, but for some reason, that was too much to ask for a video that they could look at 50 years from now. I mean, I wouldn't pay anything for a wedding video, but these were people who called me, so presumably it was worth something to them. Just not as much as a stupid cake.

It's driving me crazy; I'm super-cheap, so I wasn't expecting the venue rentals to be as much as they are. I found a cool place called Inside the Bungalow that I'm interested in and it's reasonably priced. I was interested in the Boojum Tree gardens until I got their RFP back. Total ripoff.

the only thing with bikini is they don't close the bar, so you'd want to do it on a non-first friday. i don't think they charged my friends though.

A friend of mine got married at the Boojum Tree gardens last year. I really liked it. I have no idea how much that cost, though.

My sister got married just this past Saturday. It would've been nice to have been able to enjoy the ceremony but she wanted a big wedding and wanted it (relatively) cheap which meant everybody near her had jobs to do. But hey, it was what she wanted and that is what is important. It was still fun and I was glad to be a part of it.

Does US Airways have a hall they use for employee gatherings? I have a buddy who works for SRP and they have a huge facility near Papago Park that they let their employees use for parties at a cheap rate. I'd expect US Airways to have something similar since they are a large presence in the Phoenix area.

We had looked into this as well. We liked it; just wasn't what we were looking for. I have also attended a wedding there before. It's a nice set up.

We got lucky in that my father-in-law paid for everything. I really do not want to know what the final tally was. The day was perfect, though.

Not really; we technically don't own the building. We have a 10th floor "attic" at our headquarters (next time you drive by the building, take note that the top of it is arched). It's not decorated or anything up there-all cement but the view is fantastic. Two problems with it: 1) elevator doesn't go up to the 10th floor and 2) no A/C.

Made us all want to feel like stars
Rental cars with tinted windows
Leave another number for me

And even if I make it through
That's just something that I have to get used to
That's just something I have to get used to

I feel some connection between you and me
Well I guess there's some direction
Maybe you can't see

But even at the interview
That's not something that I'm gonna get used to
That's not something I'm gonna get used to

Hello?
Can you hear me?

Hello?
That's all there is

Hepcat are opening for Flogging Molly on their upcoming west coast tour.

Here are the details on when and where, no word on tix price:
9/20/09 - Tempe, AZ - Tempe Beach Park (Arizona Fall Frenzy Festival) - On Sale Now!

The cheapest place to get tickets is at the Marquee Theatre Box Office (730 N Mill Ave Tempe, AZ 85281/ ph: 480-829-0707) for a $5.00 service charge per ticket

i'm just curious as to when they'd play, here's the timeslots thus far:

Social Distortion
830-10pm
Flogging Molly
630-8pm
Ben Harper & Relentless 7
430-6pm
The Bravery
3-4pm
Airborne Toxic Event
2-245pm
Carolina Liar
1-145pm
KEDJ Local Band Winner
12-1245pm
GATES OPEN AT 11AM

i also haven't seen flogging molly, so that would be a bonus. i need to see something more official before i buy a ticket though at those prices. i was so bummed when i went to see andy c in san diego at the canes and saw that hepcat was playing the next night and i couldn't stay :( i always miss them, so if they come there's no way i'm missing them again!!!!

higgybaby23
06-19-2009, 12:22 PM
Hmmmm? Those set times do look pretty packed. I heard about the show through Hepcat's myspace. This definitely warrants further investigation. This might sound a little extreme, but I would gladly pay $55+ just to see Hepcat again.

Edit: Maybe they can bump that KEDJ Local Band Winner to an 11am spot. Wishful thinking...or, they could just replace the Bravery, lol.

chairmenmeow47
06-19-2009, 12:27 PM
hepcat is awesome, so it's not extreme at all!!! right on time is an opus :)

i'll keep my eyes open then if it was on their myspace. i'd check, but i don't have a computer at home & can't myspace here. thanks for the heads-up though regardless, cause they are very high on my list of acts i'd love to see, but haven't.

i wouldn't mind if they replaced airborne toxic or social d either :x

Oh there was plenty of whackness... except for the bands, they were killer. But sitting at a rock concert. I felt like standing up and yelling at everyone to stand up and quit being pussies... plus there was no alcohol. People only stood for like two songs during the regular set and then would sit back down. whack. Finally, everyone stood at the end of the set and during the encore. Some guy in the front must have not been a fan or something, because Jeff called him out during the show. Asked him if he was court ordered to attend the Wilco show. Funny shit. The show would have been a lot more fun at the Rialto. Oh well, both bands blew me away. I hadn't seen either before and was really impressed.

The plot thickens on the Hepcat show in PHX. They have posted the Flogging Molly tour poster, which has a double asterix next to the Tempe date. It states that there is NO Hepcat on the date. The plot thickens on the Hepcat show in PHX. They have posted the Flogging Molly tour poster, which has a double asterix next to the Tempe date. It states that there is NO Hepcat on the date. Which means definitely no appearance by them at the Fall Frenzy Fest. Pray to your gods people, solo Hepcat show....

*crosses fingers*

i remembered though that i am going to be at disneyland that weekend, UGH!!!! i hope they do a one-off show that sunday night and i can just get back in time for that. i would love to see some hepcat!!!

Good seeing you Rick and Jen!

Nice meeting you Ivy!

Ivysaur, any suggestions on the music portion? I recognize some names but not too many, but it looks like there's some RubbaDubDub in there :D

Not to mention the Do-Lab will be there to boot!

a lot of those artists are out of my element, sorry dylan!!!! wish i could offer some advice! check out this thread on edmnexus (you prolly need to create an account to view):

If any PHX boardies get bored (see what I did there?) tomorrow night, I'm hosting a going away party for a buddy downtown. It's a late-night affair, midnight to 5 am, and it's located between the Trunkspace and the Bikini. Lots of old-school and nu-electro plus techno and prolly some house and funk, too. We'll have Kiltlifter and Stella on tap. Feel free to drop by.

That Dear and the Headlights article basically summed up the entire reason why I like that band. Bonnaroo was my sixth time seeing them, and they actually gave our group a shout-out for seeing them on opposite sides of the country (front row at Coachella and Bonnaroo).

I miss Phoenix and I'm thinking about going out there soon. I'm not doing anything the weekend of July 10th-12th. And I see that Jenny Lewis is playing The Marquee on that Saturday. Now, Jenny Lewis alone wouldn't get me out there. But I figure that I have you people to hang out with and that's something to do. She's also an artist I like. I may be going to that show. I downloaded the first 8 songs off of Heartless Bastards' The Mountain album and am really digging them. Although $20 is a little more than I feel like spending on a show right now, especially if I'm seeing the Pixies in England. Hmm...

So, if anybody is at home and not out and about, I plan on going to First Fridays tonight. I tried searching this thread for that post with all the info on it but couldn't find it. Would anybody mind telling me exactly where it's at, places to park and what time it starts/ends? Thanks.

LooseAtTheZoo

I park in the parking lot off of Fillmore and Seventh St., although if space is open I'll park in front of Space 55, which is right before Fillmore if you're going South on Seventh.

It usually winds down around 11-11:30ish, in my experience, and doesn't really get started until 7:30-8

I just stay in the area around Roosevelt and 7th St. It basically just becomes a huge plaza for the night, and most of the most interesting stuff is off the main street (sorry, I can't remember actual street names right now).

I'll be there with some friends around 8ish.

Did you go to the Watson Twins show? How was it?

I went to that.

It was a Found Magazine tour. Davy did his comedy-type readings of/stories about found letters/flyers/etc for a while. Then the Watson Twins played acoustically, did 6-7 songs. Then Davy did more of the funny. Then his brother Peter (I think?) played some (~5) comedy/novelty type songs he wrote based on some of his favorite of the finds. Quite a few were hilarious and I am sure that is the best way to hear them. Then Davy finished up with some more readings.

So it wasn't so much a Watson Twins show (they did say they were planning on being back on their own in the fall) but it was entertaining. It lasted over two hours.

Yes we are. I'm not sure where everyone lives in that area, but I was just thinking a bar (no cover, Ivy) like Four Peaks. It doesn't have to be THAT bar, but just a run-of-the-mill place to grab drinks. Maybe somewhere on Mill Ave? Again, I'm really not sure where the most central location would be since I'm not from there.

Pretty good. I actually enjoyed the opener Dawes more than Deer Tick (spent my last 10 dollars on a CD of theirs). Deer Ticks music sounded kind of homogenous after a few songs.

They rolled up about 10 minutes before show time in a yellow shortbus. The doors opened, trash spilled out, the lead singer walked out in sweat-drenched underwear and nothing else, and he yells "Hellooooooo Phoenix."
