I thought they were scheduled to go on at 8:15 and play till 9:45. Whether that's when they actually go on is another story, but I'm pretty sure that's what the times were for the weekend shows (which this is considered to be).

I think we could be crunched for time if we tried to have dinner and drinks before the show. For some reason I thought 8:15 was the time of the weekday shows. Oh well. I'm probably the asshole. :)

Luckily we will all be able to cruise the carpool lane to make it a little more acceptable. I am not sure what time Ally is getting in, and then I need to find out from AJ if he wants to ride with us. I can't really do much drinking if any so I will be DD for our group. Then the plan seems to be to go to my sister & Chad's place for after show drinking/partying for those that want to join.

Tommy, is it safe to assume you have a ride from the airport? Ally and Mikey? I can provide transportation in my vehicle from an airport or downtown to the venue and probably post show transportation to the after party. Beyone that we would have to see.

randy's flight gets in friday after 5, so i doubt we'd be able to make a pre-show meet-up if the show starts at 7:30. i would also stay as close to the westridge (i think it's desert sky now?) mall as possible as the pavillion is south of that mall i believe.

so if there is a meet-up, we will stop by if we get to the westside early, but don't count on us. i know i'm going to probably take surface streets from the airport cause i'd rather try to get to the pavillion from the north side instead of coming south from the ten.

when does tommy's flight get in? i work like ten minutes from the airport and will already be getting randy, so if tommy needs a ride, holla at me!

We'll hold off on the pre-show meetup so we can all have plenty of time to get to the venue. If there is traffic then we can just throw on our iPods and enjoy. :) We'll have our fun at the show and after the show. I'm anticipating being in the pit at least 45 minutes before NIN goes on stage.

Calm down everyone, I highly suggest you carpool to Cricket. That way you can take the carpool exit at 79th Ave. Once you exit, make a right and go north past McDowell. The venue will be another 1/2 mile on the left. There will be much less traffic going this route. I've never had any delays getting into the parking lot for Cricket this way.

I'll be heading out there with my wife. We're winging the ticket situation also, Gonshman. Looks like I'll be bringing a cooler of beer and cruising the parking lot for awhile until we get our tickets. The beer will also come in handy after the show when we end up chillin' waiting for the traffic to die down.

I was hoping Jen would speak up since she lives westside. I don't know what's over there except at jobing.com arena there's ton of stuff.

There's virtually nothing by Cricket. It's in the ghetto. I wouldn't even bother trying to meet somewhere beforehand.

Just thinking virtually outloud here, but your best bet would be to stop at one of the joints on 99th Ave/McDowell. You'll have to go past the exit for Cricket a couple of miles, but there's a few restaurants right as you get off the freeway. Red Robin, Native New Yorker, Islands, Claim Jumper, a sushi/teppanyaki place, etc.

Jobing.com arena is pretty close right?

Not really. 7 or 8 miles.

Traffic isn't that bad at 5:30-especially once you get past 35th avenue. Sometimes it's a horror show if there's an accident.

Get off the freeway before you hit downtown and take Buckeye Rd up to about 51st ave; you can get back on the I-10 around there.

So Yeah Yeah Yeah's tix are 34.50 if you chose Will Call or a couple more dollars to print at home. So 9.50 service charge on $25 tickets. These other ticketing companies aren't exactly any better than Ticketmaster...

I just bought my YYYs ticket at the Marquee box office, the fee on top of the ticket was only $3.00, so the total was $28.00. Pretty, pretty good.

Micah: you're going to Kings of Leon? It's kind of funny to me that we've discussed so many upcoming shows and yet two pretty big ones -- KoL and Coldplay -- have barely gotten any mention.

I've been thinking about going to the KOL show, but I haven't bought my ticket yet and now they are sold out. I'd still like to get a ticket but I don't want to pay too much so we'll see if I can get one from ticketmaster before the show or maybe buy one from a scalper if its not too expensive. I can't stand Coldplay so I wont be anywhere near that show. If anyone has an extra KOL ticket please let me know.

Grand seems wrong. it goes northwest. you want to just go west.

chairmenmeow47
05-12-2009, 01:41 PM
grand is infinitely better than you remember, amy. i use it whenever i'm heading to the northwest valley. most people don't use it because they think they'll have to stop at every light still, so it's not that bad during rush hour, in my experience. they've built over/under passes at almost all the three-way intersections that used to exist on grand, so it's pretty much smooth sailing if you stay around the speed limit since you're going the same direction as the train.

thanks for the tip on the carpool exit, westcoast, i was not familiar with that!!! might be worth getting back on the ten. i'm definitely bypassing the stack as that's pretty much always shitty no matter the time of day.

and everyone better stay the fuck away from tempe tomorrow. so many street closures & mass transit changes due to obama speaking at the graduation. i'm leaving work early and prolly taking the rail before 6 since they are shutting down service by ASU at that time. my dad said security checks might take 90 minutes... corn.

Not if you want to hit a few strip clubs on the way. :)

I think Grand just got better once they built that overpass. I always used it during rush hour to go to the west side. It definitely takes you more north than need be for Cricket but I bet it wouldn't take you any longer than the I-10 and you would move along a bit faster.

Who knows, i'm just talking now, not looking to give good info at this point. I love local traffic and routing discussions.

captncrzy
05-12-2009, 01:46 PM
In any case, it's really not bad once you get into the avenues. Ivy, if you're coming from the airport, get on the I-10 West, get off at Washington/Jefferson, take whichever one runs west (I think it's Washington) through downtown. Or just take Buckeye Rd. Don't take McDowell.

I take the I-10 every day and it's only really bad once a week or so. Also, if you can take the carpool lane, it's an easy ride out west. You'll get stopped up a little bit at the stack because of the merging lanes, but it clears up right after that. And yeah, you can get off the freeway at 79th Ave from the carpool lane, head west to McDowell, and then make a left and go up to 83rd.

HA! My wife's friend used to date the guy that owns that.

How is the 101 Southwest from up north at that time of day? Everytime I'm on the 101, it's empty, but I don't think I've ever gone at rush hour.

All the computer maps tell me to go down to I-10 and head west, but taking the 101 is only a few miles longer, and I can't imagine it would be anywhere near as shitty as the 10.

AND, even if I specify that I want to take the 101, it still tells me to take it all the way to the 10 and backtrack to 83rd Ave. Any reason I shouldn't just hop off the 101 at, say, Indian School Rd? It just seems to me like anything to avoid the 10 is a sound policy.

captncrzy
05-12-2009, 04:06 PM
The westbound 101 (on the North side of town) can get VERY bad during rush hour up until you hit 75th/83rd Ave or so. I used to take it home when I worked out in North Scottsdale and I would sit on it for an hour sometimes. I would just stay on the I-17 N to the I-10 west-especially since you won't be hitting town until later. The I-17N will be dead until you get to the I-10 anyway.

I-10 has gotten a really bad rap; but like I said, I take it every day and it's not that bad-especially since the snowbirds are gone and college is ending.

At the same time, the traffic this last Friday was horrid. Crapshoot.

05-12-2009, 04:31 PM
faxy is talking about taking the 101 south (the 101 on the westside, lol) and jen is talking about taking the 101 west from the east valley.

the 101 south shouldn't be that bad once you get past bell, but i have seen the 101 westbound get pretty backed up and it's generally starting about the 17 until the arrowhead mall area, and you'll probably be coming from seventeen so that may be a problem. it sounds like loca says it's not though, so you may be able to take the 101 all the way to the ten/thomas.

alternate non-freeway route if the 101 west looks backed up:

take the i-17 to t-bird and take that to either the 101 south or just take surface streets over till you hit the 75th & thomas area. i have always had good luck taking t-bird across town. thunderbird & northern are the best streets for this, so if you prefer to stay on the 17 a bit, you could take it to northern too. just some suggestions :)

I think both me and Jen knew exactly what parts of the 101 we were talking about as well and it seemed Parks understood us too.

If he's taking the I17 south then getting on the 101 from the 17 only occurs at one spot which ultimately takes you south.

God no...I'm working from home today. It's bad enough on game days; I can't imagine what it's like today. Especially since he flies in right around rush hour-the traffic is going to be horrid.

I'm on a really tight deadline right now, so my boss was encouraging it anyway.

Not exactly; they flight restrict while the President is on the tarmac; once he leaves the tarmac, there are still airspace restrictions, but not for airlines and emergency personnel. Private airports get shut down though.

i was there too. my dad was on the field. kinda sucks the master's students didn't get to shake his hand like the doctorate students, but oh well. the place did clear out which was awesome and made it super easy for us to get out.

it was like an epileptic seizure watching the camera flashes go off when he hit the stage, jesus. alice cooper sang "schools out for summer" and there was this hilarious acapella group that didn't have nearly enough mics on them doing a medley of journey songs. the most hilarious part was the girl on her end moving her arms like she was singing a hardcore rap song.

we were so, SO lucky to have seats on the westside of the stadium and missed all the sun. score.

i wanted to punch the stem cell prosters out front. they were pushing their signs in everyone's faces and yelling "LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE KILLING". ummm, I'M not killing anything dude, just here to see my dad freakin' graduate.

and we're definitely going to try to meet-up with people after the show, but i'm not giving a 100%. we both work friday and i'm staying at a resort at power road & the 202, so it's going to be a loooooooooong drive home from the show. but we'd really like to make it out and are going to do our best to do so :)

Mark: That's cool Connor, have fun. You don't have to put a question mark at the end of sentences that aren't questions.

Not really. Ween is a pretty typical booking for Flagstaff. They'd be in that Primus/Buckethead type list of freaks that for some reason, the hippies still like.

Also, a lot of bands like to book Flagstaff in the summer and skip Phoenix, since they know a lot of Phoenix people will drive up anyway.

Now Shpongle...that's random.

i gave my girlfriend another reminder about being quick and i don't wear makeup or anything like that so i'm really just changing into a skirt & shirt. if everyone's flight is on time, i could be there before 7. don't worry, i'll be a speed demon!!!!!!!!

I guess Ivy should just have at it because I'm not really familiar with the airport entrances/exits/etc. I only go there once every 2 or 3 years. And it's out of my way too. :( I'll just hang out in the parking lot applying makeup for an hour.

Also, I probably won't go anywhere afterwards so I can spend some time with Jacob. We get maybe 30 hours together all week every week, mostly one Friday evening and Saturday day/night.

Amy, you are more than welcome to come over here so you don't have to sit in the heat.

I realized that I have A.J.'s ticket too. So that factors into getting there a bit earlier with Amy.

You guys, I saw Tom Morello last night at a restaurant after the show. I was standing at a table about to sit down and in he walks. I walked up to him and just said "Hey, good show tonight." I reached out to shake his hand and he decided on the fist pound. I changed mine to a fist pound as he was changing his to a hand shake. We just looked at each other as if to say "You're a fuckin ******, get it right." We shared an awkward chuckle and he said "Thank you" and walked to get in line. There were too many people there so he just left.

Yes. Not the best writer but I relate to the whole not liking Dave but liking Wilco and the hipster descriptions and all about the two different breeds of fans. Good stuff. To me, Wilco puts out 4 minute songs that last up to 7 minutes live because Nels Cline is my guitar hero.

I should be there tonight around 5:30ish. Joel is day drinking so he will be toasted or close to it if he does it right. I think Cesar is picking up some beer for the parking lot. I don't think I can drink more than one in that heat though.

...for tickets.

Parking lot off of 83rd Avenue.

There are lawn tickets still available at the box office, y'all.

For 35 dollars. I can probably get it cheaper off of a scalper while I'm there tonight. Tickets still available means low demand for lawns. And they do get desperate to sell as it gets closer to show time.

I'll be at the venue no later than 6 tonight. Friends may or may not be going. I'd like to meet up with people though. I have dylan and marks number (and I believe they have mine as well).

It was Trents idea. Something about how he wants to hit the stage at sunset and blow people away with unpredictable sets in a very memorable way. Not sure that's going over well as there was confusion from fans from the get go.

Anyone else hear Tom Morrello say that he would be the first to announce Tool is Playing US Airways Center in July!

Mmmmm...was that Tom? Seems odd that he would be out before his set announcing Dane Cook and Queensryche shows. Or did Tom come out and interrupt the announcer guy? I wasn't paying close attention, to the point that I thought "Why is everyone cheering for Jewel?" until my friend said something about Tool.

Regarding Jane's...instead of Perry constantly teaming up with a billion other bands to keep rehashing Jane's songs, I really wish the rest of the band would just find themselves a better singer. He really has become the weak link in that band. He suffers from Robert Plant syndrome. Whenever either of them come to some really high notes, they suddenly start singing to a completely different tune, rather than just shifting it down an octave. That way, it just sounds like they are "jamming".

But the rest of the band blew me away. I haven't seen them in 18 years, and while Perry was definitely better back then, everyone else has grown so much. Dave is such a douchebag in life that I forgot how good he is. Stephen gets taken for granted, but he's always there doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing. And I now get why it was a big deal to people for Eric to come back. He was such a driving force, I found myself watching him much of the time.

Nice to meet Tommy and Amy...how was the pit? I saw Tommy limping a bit in the parking lot afterward.

It was soooooooooooo nice seeing everybody Friday. That was the best concert I've been to in a LONG LONG TIME. :) :) :)

The view from the pit was great, even standing near the back of it. Tommy and I started out in the back middle of the pit and got caught in a maelstrom of moshing but a cute short girl grabbed my arm and pulled me to the right and then I grabbed Tommy and had him come over there. I've got some bruises from those first few crazy minutes. Pit was expensive but worth it to be so close. I suppose all the girls in our group were too far back to notice, but did anyone else notice how HOT Robin Finck (NIN guitarist on right) looked? Damn the men for looking better with age. Last time I saw him on stage with NIN he was about 23 and now he must be 37 or 38. Tommy caught the first water bottle Robin threw. Set list was great but a bit too older-NIN-heavy. I was hoping for a few songs from The Slip. I kinda wish NIN would chuck Head like a Hole out with Closer because I am so sick of that song. And like I said in the NIN thread, Wish made me lose my shit. I also go nuts during March of the Pigs, but I thought they whipped that one out a little too early in the show. That needs to be near the end, methinks.

I enjoyed Jane's somewhat, but I also noticed like M Sparks did that Perry kept singing lower off notes instead of the higher ones. I was dancing during Been Caught Stealing, but Perry's vocals ALMOST ruined that song (everyone else sounded great though). Their music sounded very psychedelic and like good music to get stoned to.

Audra, leave your brother and/or sister or whoever the fuck he wouldn't shut the fuck up with during the show at home next time. Seriously. Don't bring people who don't understand what concert etiquette is to concerts when you're attending in the company of people who respect them. I asked their asses nicely and they acted like a couple of cunts. Were it a fair world, I'd have knocked them both the fuck out.

And can't we please start leaving Mikey the fuck home? Douchebag seriously not only decides to walk over, stand right IN FRONT OF ME, and then talk throughout NIN's entire set. Not to mention when he turned around during March Of The Pigs and asked--in all seriousness--"what band is playing? Do you know this song?"

UGH.

:lool Geez, and I felt like a dope because I didn't recognize a couple of the newer songs.

I almost kicked a couple guys who sat on the ground and chatted loudly all through Jane's. It's like, why not leave and beat the traffic?

Oh, and the worst part of the show...at the absolute quietest part of Hurt, flashing lights in front of my face and "ICE COLD BUD LIGHT!" in my ear. I almost bought one...it would have been worth $9 to bust it over his head.
