They use to be good, they still taste good but whatever oil they switched to that doesn't have the trans fat gives me indigestion and I end up burping McD's for the rest of the day. I will take the stroke in the future over the burping in the present.

The Red Robin fries I've had are always too mushy. Can you ask them for extra crispy. Are the Red Robins in Phoenix different? :)

locachica73
12-22-2008, 08:43 AM
I have always asked for them extra crispy. And sometimes they send them out not crispy and I send them back. I hate when they are mushy. And no, I don't think they are different.

The lesbian cowboy bar is at McDowell and 21st Street, total dive but looks like a fun place. They had the monthly poker tourney there Saturday. Service kind of sucked though, but I am guessing because they weren't expecting 150 poker players to show up. So I just went up to the bar, the bartender was quicker and cuter anyway. Afterwards we can hop on grand and hit the bush company... its on Grand right?

Yep, Grand is pretty much nothing but strip clubs, car dealerships and the one set of working train tracks minus the light rail that I have ever seen in Phoenix.

i believe the one with poker is the one off thomas. my ex BFF had a boyfriend that moved here from ohio and played poker full-time, made enough money to support them both, and that's the only place he played.

yeah and at this time of year, sticking as close to home as possible is a good bet, even if for only a beer or two. Luckily the bar I hang out at is a mile and a half away and there is a local guy who drives cab that hangs out there so I always have a ride and it only costs $6.

It's been at least a year since I was there and then it was $4.25 for a domestic pint. Rip off, I know, they are ice cold at least.

amyzzz
12-26-2008, 01:57 PM

locachica73

There is a poker house up the road from my house called That's Poker. It is a $40 buy in, the house takes nothing, they have two guys that play there who own it and whatever they win is what they get. They also have a pool table and juke box and they occasionally let people bring in their own booze, if they know you well. It is actually kind of fun. Never played poker there because I am kind of scared, but I know several people who have won. I typically go over and play pool though. Piss off the dudes who I beat.

faxman75
12-26-2008, 02:10 PM
So they allow strangers to play? How would you even get in on an illegal game like that?

Mr. Dylanja
12-26-2008, 02:13 PM
There is also a place like that on 35th Ave. and Northern, it's called the Back Room, it's in the back of a bingo hall. It's open daily from 5pm to 5am, they also have blackjack. You can b.y.o.b. but I do think they take a rake from the poker pots. The game is usually 3-6 dealers choice between Holdem, Omaha hi/lo and Omaha hi I think.

Also, Mark, I don't think they have 2-4 at CazAz.

locachica73
12-26-2008, 02:15 PM
Actually poker rooms like this are popping up all over the valley. They just opened another down in tempe somewhere. I got an email from a friend because they were looking for dealers. I don't want to deal though because I prefer to play. Anyway it isn't illegal because the house doesn't take a cut. They found some loop hole in the law it seems. I am guessing that eventually the law will illiminate the loop hole but until then the game I am talking about is at 16th street and Bell Road. They usually start around 8 pm and run all night till 8 am. I was there last week till they closed playing pool and the owner and I ended up playing a side game of addiction.

I understand that. Most people are like that. Although this is on a point basis, each night 1st and 2nd players win a gift certificate at whatever bar your at. Then you accumulate points throughout the month to play in the monthly tourny where you can win 1st place of 1500 buy in to world poker tour or 1000 cash and then they have prizes all the way up to 16th place. I took 20th out of 200 this month. grrr. Then for the yearly it is even higher prizes which I have qualified for as well. I am a little scared of that one but have till april to work out my game. I just like it for the practice and the fun myself. The second game is usually the best of the night because people are well into their drinks. There are some people that donkey in and play shit, and win on it for that matter. But then there are others that can really play. And alot of these people take it pretty serious because they want the points/money.

Good luck Ivy. Let us know if there are more than 2 other people on that thing. I'm convinced it isn't useful at this stage. I do think once more expansions take place it might become handy to some.

Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers are playing at the main Tempe station 5th st/ college at around 4:00pm. They got stuff for kids there too so I may take Connor to this.

Allyjoy and I are headed to Phoenix the last weekend in January. 30th, 31st, and 1st. We are going to hit the bars Friday, and have a party (fingers crossed) at Dylanja's...or somewhere. It's jungle themed! So costumes are required. There is going to be a lot of great music, DRINKING, giraffe tents, glitter, dancing, and partying with the Board. So please come, I would love to meet you, and all the others. :)

LOL yeah I remember from my days living in Oregon and working the graveyard shift. I have scraped a windshield or two in my day. But having lived in Phoenix for the past 10 years I got rid of my windshield scraper so I did the wait it out thing while waiting for the heater to kick in.

I/friends have resorted to credit cards/drivers licenses/spatulas to scrape off ice. I really don't recommend credit cards because they are not strong and get brittle when they're cold!

I finally broke down and bought a plastic ice scraper to leave in my car but I park in a garage now and thankfully don't have to worry about it anymore. It doesn't get that cold here.

I use this (http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page.cfm?queries_index=index10&ProductCode=31&ProductSubCodeID=193&NewProduct=0).

Made of black fiber-filled plastic. Measures 2 5/8 inch wide, 3 1/2 inch long and 3/8 inch thick. These ice scrappers are held by inserting the middle finger in the hole, with rounded end in palm, making a fist. Can be used as ice scraper, key ring and ideal for ladies self-defense weapon.

i didn't get to ride the light rail, though i tried on saturday and sunday. the lines were way too long. and i couldn't believe the number of people DRIVING to use MASS TRANSIT.

apparently bikini lounge has hosted 5 weddings, though this was the 1st buddhist ceremony and there hasn't been a wedding since the 90s. still though, i was shocked to find out they weren't the only couple to have this idea!!! the band had already been scheduled to play, and amy happened to know the singer which was kinda cool. that guy was crazy, he was all over the bar going through the crowds and getting on the floor.

and i thought it was awesome the other bridesmaid and i happened to wear matching colour dresses :)

As I told Ivy, it went like my first time getting laid. Quick and awkward. I drove to her place and she said "Aren't you taking your rental car back?" and I said "I extended it to Sunday". She said "Oh ok. So what's your plan now?" I replied "Well, I think it would be best if I just gave you money for the Coyotes ticket and stayed in Phoenix for the rest of my trip". I think at that point she just wanted me to get the fuck outta there so she said "Ok, but you don't have to pay for the ticket." I hurried and packed all my shit and I was gone in 10 minutes. :)

I knew what she looked like, so that wasn't it. She is no super model, but not too bad. She just clammed up and was painfully uninteresting. It was extremely awkward and surprising because we have talked every day for months on end. I have had a great time here so that was just a funny and random thing. So I went to First Friday last night, first one I've been too in almost a year and a half. Some friends and I set up a Kaossilator and drums on the corner by Modified Arts, and just fooled around. The Kaossilator is amazing; I'm not a big musician but it's easy to use and sounds great, as well as being a cool little social experiment when you pass it around and everyone gets to add a beat. My only question about First Fridays is this: Since when did the art get so crappy? In all the galleries and street artists there was maybe one good looking and original piece of art, and everything else is extremely overpriced. Oh well.

Who's going to Parliament Funkadelic next Wednesday? Has anyone bought their tickets left, or should I be good just buying at the door?

Seriously Fax, either you should just give up gambling and save your money or you should read this book on Blackjack that I have. Oh well.

The art started to suffer when the city cracked down on unlicensed vendors. A friend of mine has been periodically harassed by the police over the course of the last year or so. The licsensed vendors don't want just anybody to show up and take their spots or offer competition. And, the city wants to make money selling vending permits and ticketing those w/o one. There is probaly a compromise that would improve the situation, but I don't think anyone is working towards it. Meanwhile, artists with no permit will eventually not be allowed to setup at all.

several of the eight is enough kids were in rehab if I remember right, one may have even committed suicide if my way back hat is working, so that one might be a close tie. All I remember about the waltons is Goodnight John Boy.

But, I think this board gives "disfunction" a whole new perspective in a really good way, don't you SFChrissy? It's as if we throw daggers and darts pre-lineup, and it all turns to glitter and dayglo post lineup...

The show was great. They tore the house down. I'll write more in depth tomorrow, but right no the highlight for me was an amazing woman singer doing Proud Mary, followed by Flash Light. But Cosmic Slop with George's entrance and the ensuing guitar solo duels was also great.

If a Parliament-Funkadelic song isn't in the next Guitar Hero, the game should cease to exist.

i got there a bit late...they had already started into their first song as we were walking in. sorry I wasn't there earlier to hang out dylan and gonshman! the show was good. I've never been to a Pfunk show, so it was definitely interesting. can't say they "tore the house down", though....does george normally NOT sing for most the show? i guess that was the part i was most disappointed with. he sang maybe, MAYBE 20% of the show. some of those women singin were GREAT though.

bounce to this, just bounce to this. that song was awesome! :D

Mr. Dylanja
01-08-2009, 08:49 AM
I got there the same time you did, Jason. Bounce to this was sooo sick! George usually doesn't sing much so that was typical but I do feel their last show I went to was better. Still had a blast regardless and Gonsh, didn't see any crutches man, I was looking. Were you guys at the seats in the back?

WTF?!? I thought you forgot, bastard. Luckily I was at a concert so I missed it but I was ever so fortunate to see the replay in slo-mo over and over and over. I still don't understand why Steve Nash is in for late game defensive possessions. Same thing happened in the Spurs game. That said, Danny Granger is the man, dude fills up the stat sheet.

Also, even tho they were a depleted squad, your boy Black Mamba sure did choke against the Hornets.

I would've not mentioned it if the Lakers didn't have a game. If you haven't watched a game from the L.A. point of view, the announcers like to constantly keep you abreast of the going-ons in the NBA. Especially if it pertains to certain fellow Pacific Division mates.

OK Phoenix people. I am in search of a new doctor, I use to love my doc but she decided to turn her practice into a "rejuvination" clinic... So old wrinkly people take up all the appointments to get botox injections. I fucked up my back and now either the muscle I pulled is one that wraps around my upper rib cage into my chest or I am having some weird right sided heart attack, not sure which. I can't even take a deep breath without wanting to cry. So I call my doc and it will take 2 weeks to see her... I might die by then, so off to urgent care I will go after work tonight. bleh. So if anyone has a good doc they might recommend in the central Phoenix area I will be oh so delighted. I looked on my insurance website to find one but it is like throwing darts at a dart board and seeing which one pops up. There is no personal information about any of the docs. I would prefer someone a bit younger, I hate old fogey docs. If you know of someone please let me know. Thanks :)

No, Kobe had 39 points and single-handedly carried the team. It was El Pajaro de Espanol that let us down. He (Gasol) only had 10 pts and they all came in the one quarter in which the Lakers actually showed up against the Hornets--the 3rd. The team let that one go...ask CP3 how it feels to be made love to prison-style in NOLA in the first two games of the series.

After watching Granger play his first game here at UNM, I told my dad that he is the most talented player I've ever seen play for the school and that he would be an NBA all-star some day. Looks like that is going to happen. We only had him here for a year and a half, but he led the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance. I can't believe he slipped in the draft.

And you're correct about Joe Johnson, Dylz.
