It is on 8th avenue which between Rural and McClintock. 8th Ave is the street just south of University.

4 Peaks is between Rural and McClintock south of University on 8th St. Address:
4 Peaks Brewing Co
1340 E 8th St

It's a big red brick warehouse on the north side of the road, very inconspicuous if you're not paying attention.

Would people be interested in going somewhere a little north prior to the Sigur Ros show? Maybe a little Papago Brewery action? SW corner of McDowell and Scottsdale Rd. The only drawback is that place is strictly all beer, whereas 4 Peaks serves mix drinks too.

what's weird is my friend used to be a stripper there, wasn't when i met her and now is again. i never even knew she used to be though until one night she was all drunk at our house for girl's night and showed us her pics on the le girls website. my girlfriends talk about going to visit her one night, but i think it would be awkward and a bit sad.

the best was one night she went with my roommates and i to dinner and my roommate's boyfriend was all "who paid with all these ones?" and we were just like "gee bill, wonder who"... she looked so embarassed, lol.

I worked at a law firm back in 2001 this hot legal secretary who sold me weed moonlighted as a stripper at hilighter. She used to tell me stories about the attorney she worked for coming in quite often. This was a small law firm and they found out about her night job and told her she had to quit. She told them no, they were still at a standoff when I left.

Yep, tha'ts it. Joel texted the entire time ignoring anyone and everyone. I got a lapdance that was pretty pathetic by the only attractive chick in the place. I also had a beer. I think I spent about $20 total and $20 is not worth the smell of cheap perfume though it was worth the laughs. There was a chick all tatted up in there and she was rough looking, you could tell it was her first night as she didn't do anything other than spin herself dizzy around the pole. No one was getting lap dances either. I think she had scabs on her arms. That was about the time we left. I think we were there a total of 1 hour. I love the cheezy music.

I had a friend who was getting married so we took her to the male review at ummm some shit hole in scottsdale, can't think of the name. Apparently it was first timers night or something. Some little rico suave looking dude came up to me and was all.... I WANT TO DANCE FOR YOU, in his best rico suave accent. he started dancing and got way to close so I pushed him away, next thing I know my hand smells like old spice cologne. UGH. I walked around the rest of the night saying ewwwwwwwww i smell like old guy.

I went to Christies which is a little more upscale apparently, but a bunch of skinny broads with fake boobs. We ended up in the VIP lounge and everyone got their own stripper. I had Tatiana the Russian Stripper sitting on my lap as we drank Chrystal. Gotta love when people take you to a strip joint on a company card. Then my next experience was at Pantera's which is where most black guys go. All the strippers had thick ass and thighs and real breasts. There was one chick that looked like Callie from Greys Anatomy. I think I prefered Pantera's just for the realness of it.

the funniest local strip club i've ever heard of is "band aids" that is like on 7th and like indian school or something like that. it's near where the "mecca" dive bar used to be. from what i heard, that place was nasty.

le girls was cool, but expensive. i also don't like the no alcohol thing at full nude places. christie's was fun, but i went with a group for someone's birthday and they were spending money like mad. penthouse was pretty freaking ghetto. i saw this one girl do an incredible booty shake there. the stage set-up was cool in that the dancers entered from really high up on this platform and then walked down to the stage. the bush company was interesting, but i didn't like that the girls kept lifting up MY shirt and kept making out with me. then the guys in the audience kept trying to buy me more bush dives, so we left.

All this talk of strip clubs is making me wistful. When I was working for EZ Payday Loans back in 2006, a lot of our Phoenix staff quit all of a sudden so I and a couple other of the assistant managers were recruited to spend a week at a time up here to provide store coverage. I wasn't dating anybody at the time, had just in fact had a nasty break-up, and knew absolutely nobody in Phoenix. So what was a lonely, single guy to do to while away the time in a big bad city by himself but hit up all the strip clubs between the Extended Stay Hotel on 16th near Camelback and 40th and Thomas? I took full advantage of the $100 cash payout I received every time I drove up here to compensate me for my mileage and promptly spent that on dances. Fax, you CAN, in fact, touch the girls, you just have to be discreet and try not to do it in a terribly obvious place (i.e. fingering genitalia). Good for me that I have a predilection for clavicles and arms. :D
I actually only ended up going to a couple of them, one near the Wells Fargo/BofA intersection on Thomas (right next to the McDonald's, maybe it's called Curveballs or Bombshells or Crawdads or something like that), the other...uhm, in the opposite direction on that road, close to one of the highways, and a little more high-end. Once I moved out on my own, the allure of going to strip clubs lost its sheen for me. When I was still living with my parents and had no bills, though, I could go in and happily blow $80 and not feel ripped off. But now I can think of so many better uses of that money, and it just doesn't seem like I can have an enjoyable time without spending close to that amount of cash.
And of course, me being the big weirdo I am, there have been a few times when I've had existential crises at the strip club. One time it even occurred in the middle of a dance. I must've had the most ghastly expression on my face because the poor girl was offended by how depressed I looked. Fuck, I was a mess back then.

No, thanks. I'll be too annoyed by the crowd to have a good time. And nobody there really sparks my interest enough to warrant shelling out $45, as cheap as that may be for a dozen acts (or however many bands are gonna be playing).

I like Rick, but I can't bring myself to read a story that starts with this sentence.

Oh, c'mon, Mark. That doesn't make me inherently wicked. Besides, the rest of the story involved strip clubs, so it was hardly payday lender-related.
One of the reasons I could stomach working there for as long as I did was because our practices actually weren't predatory. Our policies cut down on the initial amount of a loan a person could qualify for, how frequently they could become eligible for increases (if at all), and we prorated the interest so that if customers paid off a loan in 3 days, they only paid 3 days' interest, not 14. They got bought out by Ace Cash Express at the beginning of the year, though. Now they apparently provide a lot more services (i.e. check cashing, bill payment), employees are not able to work overtime (which was one of the best reasons to work there in the first place), and the stores are open much later throughout the week and on weekends, so I definitely was smart to get out when I did.

As I have mentioned before she is the musical one in the family and has tried to broaden my horizons but I am still pretty main stream when it comes to music. I loved Coachella but that was my first time being exposed to any music outside of what is played on the radio. So my question is, what should I expect if I go? Her friend backed out at the last minute and I have never even heard of this other then what I have read on here.

GO. I passed out at 8:30 when I was at the show last night, falling to the ground and spilling my drink. I apparently didn't have a seizure but they called the paramedics to check me out. After determining that my vitals were all right and I declined an ambulance ride, I opted to stay at the show and I am really, really glad I did. Okkervil were much tighter last night than when I saw them last August. It was impressive to see their improvement. The place was packed and the crowd was in the palm of their hands. They played with very high energy. Three words to describe the show: pretty damn awesome. So yeah, if you've got a chance to see them for free tonight, take advantage of it. In fact, if I wasn't already roped in for other plans tonight, I would consider making the drive down myself.

Thanks for the help, Sean, and for taking care of my glasses, John. :)

Okkervil River is sort of folk-rock (more rock than folk though) with wry, literate and occasionally passionate lyrics and excellent melodies. They are very good. ewiggy is engaged to the lead singer. Go, listen, learn.

paganman's avatar is confusing me, it's the same color and looks a lot like yours Dylan.

So I found paganman and his avatar (he's jockin my style)it's a painting by the same artist, Alex Grey. He and his wife both paint and are quite simply amazing. I consider him the best living artist today. He is friends with Tool and helps with both the album art and visuals for the live shows. He is very psychedelic friendly too!

Even if you don't like Tool (AMY!) I still encourage you to check out his site, there are some phenomenal pieces there....

Our policies cut down on the initial amount of a loan a person could qualify for, how frequently they could become eligible for increases (if at all), and we prorated the interest so that if customers paid off a loan in 3 days, they only paid 3 days' interest, not 14.

Thanks for the well wishes (of sorts), all. So loca, when was the last time you experienced this? My worry is that it's an aneurysm-in-waiting. Although I guess if that's how I'm going to die, it's a pretty nice death. You just have a sudden, shooting pain in the middle of your brain, and then you're off somewhere else in the universe. Seriously, I had a headache for about 2 seconds and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground. Not quite as nice as dying in one's sleep admittedly, but not such a bad way to die, all things considered.
The shittiest thing is that the way I fell, I hurt my rib cage. I almost worried I'd broken a rib and that a stray bone was going to jut into my heart and kill me in my sleep. While I can now discount the likelihood of a broken rib (that would leave a bruise at the very least, wouldn't it? and I haven't got a bruise), it still hurts to take a deep breath, yawn, or even stretch my left arm. Well, at least it'll make my next work-out a little more interesting.

My health insurance from my last job is ending in a couple days. I can extend it for the low, low price of $300+ a month, which, considering my present lack of a job, isn't terribly convenient. And I had gone to a doctor back in July -- he sent me to get blood work done and gave me a referral to see a neurologist. I still haven't been told the results of the blood work despite my repeated calls to try to get them, and the neurologist couldn't schedule me for an appointment until after I had already moved here, so making it to that appointment wasn't feasible. I figure I probably have another 16 months to procrastinate on this since that's the length of time since the last time this happened, so I'll just be mindful to get to a doctor as soon as my health insurance kicks in at my new job (whatever that ends up being).

You can get some on your own for probably $100-$150/month depending on your age and the deductible. You'll have to go through a broker and fill out a bunch of paperwork, but it will save you a lot of money if you'll be out of work for awhile.

It happened recently but I had smoked some weed and was cooking and the heat from the stove got to me I think. When it happened when I was younger though the last time I remember was when I was 16. They thought I might have been borderline epileptic because when I passed out my body would twitch. Unfortunately my mother didn't have any insurance and the free clinic we used to go to were not able to run many tests or anything so they never really figured it out. I never really got headaches before hand though, I would get sweaty and all of a sudden I would get grey clouds before my eyes, kinda like when you stand up too fast. But the clouds wouldnt go away and next thing I knew I was on the floor with people looking at me.

The problem with going to urgent care is they do not really have the ability to run any tests either. They basically just see you for the initial complaint, medicate you and then send you on your way. If it happens again I would recommend going to the ER. They can at least run some tests. I know without insurance that isn't the most cost effective alternative but they won't be able to give you any answers in the Urgent Care.

OK I really enjoyed the show on Friday. It was a good time. We were so close I could feel the sweat coming off the singer lol. The drummer kind of reminded my sister and I of Animal from the muppets. So then when the show was over we were really hungry since we didn't have dinner and when we leaving the show we got out the door of the hotel and to get around the people we went around the back side of the building. There was the tour bus right there and all these guys coming out the back door of the hotel. I end up running smack into the drummer. I tell my sister, holy shit its Animal lol. So then one of the other guys said, yeah you should see him in bed. LOL. We just kept walking though, I just wanted an omelette.

And apparently the band was all coked out because the lead singer kept asking the guys what they dipped his mic in because his mouth was numb.... he said he had the numbies. LOL

I hate the Marquee and Luckyman Productions. Why do I need to prepare like I'm going on an international flight for a local show?

Parking situation is horrible. And how did they manage to negotiate a deal with the City of Tempe to charge for parking at the public park across the street? Most of the time that's full too, then you're screwed and have to park across the bridge on Mill somewhere. Great, now I get to miss the first 15 minutes of the band's set, and that's if I'm lucky and security doesn't delay me even more. Make sure you wear flip flops or you're fucked and have to take off your shoes. Prepare to be raped, oh I mean searched. Yeah I'm sure there are a lot of dangerous people at a Sigur Ros show.

And what's up with the extra fees? I mean Ticketmaster fees suck, but Luckyman is even worse. I think they charge a fee to process all their fees.

Well, it's gonna be a hectic day. I have to do some work for a change. Still waiting to hear if I have an "in" to tonights show, the white sox are playing the twins tonight so i'll be staring at my phone for score updates, NIN presale at 5, which I can afford 2 tickets in the seats too but will then have less than $10 to my name, and finally sigur ros as long as it comes through.

This presale came at a terrible time. Fortunately Sin will be trying to get us tickets as well.

I'll be at GB at 7.
westcoastpirate: why is tomorrow your last day at your current job? And does that mean they're hiring? 'Cause Rick (that's me, typing in the third person) would be a perfectly viable candidate to replace you. :D

Do you have any nonprofit experience? It doesn't sound like the pay is in the range you're looking for anyway. If you are interested, my boss posted a listing on craigslist, here it is:
http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/npo/856197468.html

Please note, my boss is low balling potential candidates since the job market is so hard right now. My final salary was a hell of a lot more than what he's trying to get someone to bite on.

Today is my last day because I took a new job. And that previous post of mine doesn't look half bad, but it was really hard to type after drinking! Haha.

I'll see some of you tonight at GB, 7pm?

i've got my two registered accounts for nin. hooray for this falling on payday. i just pray to GOD no one needs me at 5.

has anyone ever been to a show down in tucson at the hotel congress? that is where we were Friday for that show and it was such a cool area. We ended up leaving the show and walking around for awhile, hit a couple of the bars down there. I really liked it, kind of reminded me of some of the little neighborhoods in Portland. I wish downtown Phoenix was more like that.

Yeah, I used to go to Congress all the time. Glad you had fun. Next time you're down there, hit up the Grill, which is a few blocks to the west of the hotel (on the south side of the street). It's like a 24-hour diner and they've got some interesting individuals working there, but it's always good for late night drunken eating. And if you're lucky, the waiter who delightfully offers free mustache rides to the ladies will still be working there.

Yeah we stayed at the hotel Friday night without a/c, we woke up in the morning a bit sweaty and reminisced about waking up in our tents at coachella. lol. The diner down the road had one of the best omelettes I have had in awhile. And the chalk in the bathrooms to write on the walls was a great idea. I think I will have something similar when I open my own bar when I finally grow up. :)

My girlfriend and I are keeping an eye on the schedule so we can go hit it up again. I think she would love the area just as much as I did.

That is true, getting to the bar area since it was an 18+ show was a bit of a task. Since I get slightly clausterphobic my sister kept a close eye on me to make sure I didn't freak. Then when we got in the guy in front of us kept busting ass so we quickly got around him and closer to the stage over by the emergency exit so it wasn't so bad after that. I would have liked to check things out a bit more, that is one thing I hate about phoenix, there is no old buildings or history in any buildings really. They knock down all the old shit and put up new. But we ended up getting there at 7, ran up to the room and changed, went up the road to have a few beers and then got back in time to hear the second band (which I was not a fan of) and then afterwards walked down to have another beer and get fed food by hot tattoo'd boys. Next time I plan on doing a bit more exploring.

Yeah, I saw some scalpers on our way over. BTW that parking garage was $5; I thought TomAZ said it was free? (did I mis-read?) That sucked.

Ivy was drunk? I can't tell the difference, sorry Ivy! ;)

Also, I did get my tickets through Klink, and I did get the email, I just didn't feel like writing that all in my last post. Seemed like a waste to give the tickets back. My coworker Tim's thoughts on the show.

That place was packed, you couldn’t even move around. Not what I would have called a great experience that is for sure. I would say they oversold capacity.. the band was good, but after maybe hour it all started sounding the same to me. but they played for close to an hour 45. I was amazed people stayed, it was so hot in that place. But it was cool, they came out after the show at the box by the buses and signed for the people that were there. I had not idea they would be that popular. MMJ I thought would have been harder to get onto the list.

The show was oversold. They opened the emergency exits where I was to let air in. I've been to sold out shows there before and it's never been that packed. Rick, thanks for the ride, I owe you a drink after you get done cleansing your system.

Nice to meet everyone. Sorry I used to talk louder, but I married a softspoken woman so I think my voice level has come down a bit in the last few years.

Just to rub it in, I gave a poster to a lady who works in the front office of Casey Moore's by chance, she gave me her card and said go to Casey Moore's and tell them I sent you and they'll give you a free drink. So I go down there by myself and get a free Smithwicks. Some friends of a friend show up so I don't feel so lonely. Well I turn around, and there's the lady who gave me her card. She ends up getting us more free drinks and starts telling me about the show. She opens up her purse, and busts out the setlist autographed by the band.

Needless to say, my wife's pissed that I came home at 2am, and my head is pounding right now. That was a good show.

I saw Rick and met westcoastpirate (sorry I'm horrible w/ names),saw zzz's from afar ( I was going to come introduce myself but there was a sea of people and I wasn't feeling Moses-like), and no Ivysaur sighting...

Show was phenomenal, killer closer!

That was the most crowded I've ever seen the Marquee, with the exception of the NIN show in '05.

Wait a sec -- NIN played the fucking Marquee in 2005? Like, 3 years ago 2005?! How impossible was it to get tickets to that show?

Rick, thanks for the ride, I owe you a drink after you get done cleansing your system.

Nice to meet everyone. Sorry I used to talk louder, but I married a softspoken woman so I think my voice level has come down a bit in the last few years.

Not a prob, man. And yeah, I will definitely hit you up on that drink. 10 more days till I can have another alcoholic beverage! Glad to hear the rest of the evening went so well, too.

I"m sure Jen would like for my volume to go down to her level. I don't think that's ever gonna happen.

They played two consecutive nights and both shows sold out in minutes.

The Mars Volta was pretty fucking good tonight. The set seemed short, six songs I think. There was no one there. Good times.

I got a pair, if I recall they were only on sale through luckyman. I had to scalp my pair to pay the mortage. I think two tickets were about $85. I sold them for $560.

Really? How long did they play? They played the dodge right? That fucking guy screams a lot. I saw them earlier this year at Sasquatch and found their set to be loud and obnoxious.

I knew they had played in Phoenix that tour, I just didn't realize it was in that small of a venue. Damn.

LOL @ no one being there. They might have had some merit after their first album but they jumped the shark immediately thereafter.

Okay, I remember you telling this story a couple times. Again, I didn't realize it was at the fucking Marquee of all places. Mortgage or NIN? I would've gone with NIN, man.

It was a very very very tough decision. The $500 made it an easier decision.

I wanted to do the same for Tool at the Gammage as well. That was several months later I think shortly after the Tool Coachella 2006 performance.

I went to that one too, except I was the victim at that show.

$200 for my ticket and YES I'd do it again without thinking twice!

Tool sounded amazing at Coachella. I saw them again at Cricket that year and it was awful. Bad sound, bad fans, someone hit maynard with a bottle of water I think. Just bad vibes all around.

I smoked a little at the Coachella performance and it was the first time I smoked pot in a couple of years at that point and this guy behind me was fucking scaring the shit out of me. He was more annoying than anything. I'm standing there as the dialog starts for their show and this big giant hairy guy starts screaming "it's the fucking devil, it's the devil woo hooo" right in my fucking ear. Buzzzzz kill. Once the music started I was blown away by the sound at the coachella mainstage. Amazing. No way of noticing you were outdoors.

I missed Coachella but agree the Cricket show was terrible, worst I've seen from my favorite band... :(

If you got to the gammage early enough, they were selling tickets at the box office there for face value. I was lucky to get to that show. My brother won the lottery for position in line @ Macy's. It was the best sounding tool show I went to by far.

I wasn't able to get there early because of work, my ticket was 5th row dead center tho, so to me it was well worth it.

The Pearl was better sounding but Gammage was the best of the AZ venues I've seen them at.

i heard the online sale sold out in 58 seconds, and i think overall sales was 6 minutes.

i purposefully went for 2 tickets. everyone i knew that got greedy and went for four missed out. the friday night show was awesome. it was so cool to see nin in such a small venue.

Naw, it was probably about 15-20 minutes. I was in line at the Marquee (took the day off work to wait in line, bleh), and I think it sold out completely right after me. I wasn't greedy and just bought one ticket for one night, although I could've bought one ticket each night if I wanted to. Great show, I was up front for as long as I could hack it. I think I went Saturday.

i'm sad i didn't go up front. my friend that would have gone up front with me had broken his knee, so we were in the back. then i saw trent dive off the stage into the crowd and my heart was broken...

did it storm anywhere last night? sure felt like it was going to.

I believe they have a designated amout at the box office itself. Online tickets were gone in a snap. Less than a minute. I got my two and tried to go back and get 2 more and there was nothing left and i'm damn fast. At most it was 2 minutes but I remember reading and hearing from many they were gone in a minute.
