Damn I wanted to go, did you guys have fun? Everyone looks a little quiet...

Oh, we certainly had fun, and it was definitely far from quiet. My throat was achin' yesterday from having to shout above the din of the bar and the raised voices of everyone at the table in order to be heard. Truth be told, this was probably the most fun of our three gatherings and I think it's really neat how communal we all have gotten to be, simply based on posting on this board.

To All You Arizonians, (?) Phoenicians, (?) Aw, heck, you know who you are~ I just wanted to tell you how cool I think these meetups of yours are, especially since it sounds like perhaps no one knew each other prior, had it not been for Coachella and this message board. Seriously, you had to get loud and boisterous in order to communicate with each other? I would have never thunk it a million years after the time I've spent around here posting with everybody! LOL LOL LOL BTW...If you're playing darts with Captcrzy, I wouldn't advise pissing her off! (Kidding? LOL) Can we assume next year you'll be easy to spot due to running in a pack? Cheers to All of You! (I'm headed to the Drunk thread, thank you very much...)

I have my sights on 12-13-2008 NIN in Las Vegas @ Planet Hollywood.

That's a nice theatre, or at least it was a long time ago. I saw the Oingo Boingo Farewell tour there. I'm glad to hear they're doing concerts again...seems like lately, they've just been using it for one of their 62 different magic shows.

i'm down for another meet-up in a month. randy will be out here the weekend of the 20th, just sayin ;)

and those were my girlfriends, amy and alicia. amy is right next to me and alicia is on the end of the booth and never smiles for pics, lol. alicia's never been to coachella, but amy went in 2006 and was the girl who sprained her ankle in 2008.

i had a great time! i'm sorry that amy wanted to leave so we couldn't hit up bikini, but it sounds like darts and such were fun :)

i loved how when that swimming race was going on the entire bar got into it. i normally am not a big swimming fan, but that shit was nuts!!! great to see everyone and i look forward to the next one. we need to get tom out one of these days...

It is very unlikely that I will go to the former and of an average likeliness that I'll go to the latter. For either, though, I would be willing to head down to catch dinner or something before the show even if I wasn't going, as long as I was free. Which is of a more-than-average likeliness.

MGMT was fantastic at Coachella. They did suck at Tempe marketplace and the lolla performance I saw lacked a lot of something. They suck at putting together their setlists as well. I dunno, I go from praising them to being meh about them.

Beck on the other hand well, I dunno even know what to say about him. I have seen him a number of times in my life and I got burnt out on the whold puppets and stomp routine he did last tour. I prefer him on stage without too many props.

well i've been agitating for a pre-beck or pre-MMJ meetup but no one seems to be interested so fuck y'all fucking fuckers.

As evinced over the last page, I don't think anybody's disinterested in having a pre-Beck or pre-MMJ meet-up, it's just that nobody's interested in actually attending either show. Well, for me, it's not that I'm disinterested in attending Beck, it's just I don't want to spend the money, especially with all the other concert and moving expenses I've got breathing down my neck over these next several weeks. But if we're all down the road from the Marquee anyway and I can score tickets for reasonably cheap, I can be persuaded to venture into the show after all.

Rula Bula works for me; it's across the street from my office.

Guess that means it works for me as well. Which it should.

the 30th is a busy night! earth, wind and fire as well. i still can't decide on that or sigur ros.

Uh, are you kidding? How can this even be a debate? EWF plays one of the casinos in Tucson like every other autumn. I'm sure they're doing the AVA Amphitheatre here a day or two before or after the Phoenix show. And if you can't afford to do both their show and Sigur Ros's, I'm sure EWF will be here again in the spring. They almost always seem to be.

Is anyone going to make the road trip to see Girl Talk at the Rialto?

Have you seen Girl Talk live before? If not, heed my advice: save yourself the gas money.

EDIT: Ivy -- http://casinodelsol.ticketforce.com/ordertickets.asp?p=88&backurl=default.asp Hahaha, and I was just fucking around about them being here so frequently, but I guess I was right about when they'd play Tucson.

I saw Cracker in Sedona a few years ago. I'm not a huge fan, but it was pretty good. I'm pretty sure it was an electric show. CVB was here last year, but I missed it.

I should go just because I have an original copy of The Unforgiven album on cassette- it would be fun to try to get Hickman to sign it and see if he freaks out. (Either in a good way or a bad way.) The Orpheum is a cool venue, but they hardly ever have anything I want to see. That's where I saw The Rentals, and I went to Rob Zombie last year just for the heck of it. I saw "English Beat" (AKA Dave Wakeling & a couple other guys) a few years back too. I think that's it. Man, I hate Flagstaff's music scene.

Gogol Bordello at the Edgefest in Queen Creek.

Bleh...I've never been to Edgefest, but it usually looks like fun even though the hipsters spit on it.

That's a really really really poor lineup this year, IMO. Gogol and Flogging Molly would be good...maybe Reverend Horton Heat if it was 15 years ago. And how the hell does Oakenfold fit in?

Sparks, you saw WSP up in Flag right?

Widespread Panic was at Pine Mountain Amphitheatre...it's a pretty nice little outdoor space out by the fairgrounds, sound is OK. I am working on a PMA ad right now, for a bluegrass festival, and Spearhead.

The Orpheum is an old moviehouse that dates back to the 20s. It's very cool...kind of like the Huntridge in Vegas but much nicer. Basically the first 10 rows of seats have been removed. Then there's another 10 or so rows of the original theatre seats. The rest of the theater has been raised/leveled flat, and is basically just a bar, with a railing around it. If a show is all-ages, you can still drink in the back and have a good view, because you're raised above the kids. Unfortunately, I don't think they let people in the balcony anymore. Sound runs from good to bad, I think it depends on the artist.

The people that own the Orpheum promote the Pine Mountain shows for the county.

Phoenix radio is abysmal. There was a glimmer of hope when the Edge came out with the whole "independant" vibe, but we all knew sooner or later corporate life would catch up to it.

faxman75
08-27-2008, 01:49 PM
You won't notice a difference at all in your channel lineup. You can pay an extra $3 or $6 per month I forget which to get the "best of" the other ones lineup. The recievers now aren't capable of carrying all of both. so basically instead of paying $13 a month for each service a total of $26. You can pay like $16 and get the best of the other. The sports and Howard stern don't seem to fall into this though. So if you have XM and want stern you have to get an XM radio or if you have Sirius and want MLB then you have to get an XM reciever and subscribe.

Just unreal variety with sattelite. They have a channel called the vault. it is nothing but non singles and deep tracks from classic rock acts and such. so much good music on sattelite. You also get an online login so you can listen on the computer as well. I'm broke and need a new car stereo since mine was stolen but the way to go is just get one with an aux input in front. Then once you get sattelite and an ipod you just connect static free. Forget those silly transmitters. Those things drove me nuts getting static and driving round looking for different stations. You can get a cheap stereo with an aux input in front for 50-60 bucks at walmart or a decent one for $100 installed at circuit city.

Phoenix radio is abysmal.

101.5 Jamz has a great show called "Rhyme & Reason" hosted by a couple of dope homies in the area. It's on at 10pm on Sundays.

Other than that I only really listen to NPR and Skapunk! on the Edge but that show has been sucking for months now.

Yea its a lot of radio ska and radio punk but at least I get to hear something.

I feel like to hear real music you actually kinda have to work for it. Otherwise you have to listen to what others want you to hear.

We went to Superstition Springs Mall yesterday (our closest mall), and we noticed throughout the mall, there were about 10 stores completely vacant. Has anyone else noticed it at their malls? It alarmed us quite a bit; Jacob was upset that the Suncoast video store closed (they always had cool t-shirts and kitschy toys along with DVD's).

Phoenix radio is abysmal. There was a glimmer of hope when the Edge came out with the whole "independant" vibe, but we all knew sooner or later corporate life would catch up to it.

Finally I can say "yay" for not having any trees (I live in a condo). I went to work today, and the freeways were fine from Mesa to Phoenix, but when I tried to go north on 3rd St (by McDowell), there were fallen trees all over the fuckin place and stoplights out with police directing traffic at almost every light. Iwas lucky I got to the Phoenix area a half hour early so I had time to navigate that mess. I dread driving through it tonight since I'm leaving early and therefore driving through full-on rush hour.

I drove a Honda through a hail storm a couple weeks ago during a tornado warning, where the hail was 4 inches deep on the ground. But UPS can't get a truck out of town 20 hours later. And I bet the lazy bastards are taking Monday off too.

He beat a baby for crying during a video game, life in prison just doesn't seem like enough punishment to me. He needs to feel pain.

The emotional pain of knowing that everything is moving on without you is indescribable.

You will never be respected or judged fairly again. You will never know what its like to ride in a car, or go to the store just cause you feel like it, go do something impulsive, or just sit around and watch tv on your couch. No one will ever love you for you just being you. You will never be able to contribute to anything productive and be able to take credit for it. You will never be able to individualize yourself or be your own person again.

Your girlfriend moves on to another man.
Your friends forget about you.
You get to spend the rest of your life thinking about what you want to do, but never can again. That is pain relived over and over again.

You get to "live" through all of this...

I'm not trying to defend a baby puncher, but does the kid really know what he's missing? It's not like the baby thinks "I can't wait to blow bubbles when I get older."

It's not a logical comparison. You can't compare the suffering of the baby puncher, to the projection of an imaginary future life on the baby. You don't know what that baby's life would have been like. In fact, I'm betting it would have been pretty shitty, considering what the first few months were like.

I say the baby puncher gets the worse deal. The difference is, he deserves it.

Good explanation sparks. This is exactly where the conflict is.

As for who got the worse of the deal Loca, obviously I want a baby puncher to be punished, and he is. You wanted him to feel pain, and I can say probably that he will, for the rest of his life. He is and will be currently punished for the rest of his days.

Just to be sarcastic as always, maybe we should blame the video game, or the mother, or maybe the music he was listening to before he hit the baby. Maybe the artist just headlined Coachella, so in turn we can blame Coachella for promoting these artists in a glamorous way, ultimately making the puncher love music more than taking care of a crying baby.
