Some people don't. For some it's all or nothing. They love you or they don't; they're interested or they're not. Much simpler and direct that way. No transitioning for me.
M Sparks
06-23-2010, 03:36 PM
I don't understand why that's confusing. There's the friends zone, the friends with benefits zone, and the date zone. People may transition from one zone to another as the relationships progress.
That's how I feel, but most women think that the friend zone is a one way, one lane, dead end street. Hence the advice not to get in it.
M Sparks

Try not to think. Shut off your mind. Guys are suppose to be stupid.
Well, considering the all the retards I've been rejected in favor of, that's probably good advice. I'm just going to get a lobotomy and a big club.

Yes, that's my point. It all goes back to the caveman days when you needed the biggest man to protect the village. Genetic predisposition makes women have chemistry with idiots.

my best dates were with people i really connected with. it had nothing to do with the activity, kinda like matt said. i've had great dates that range from picnics in the park to expensive dinners. it just depends on the company and the conversation. the right girl will enjoy being with you doing most anything. that being said, i think whatever you choose to do on a first date, it should not be expensive (as that sets up expectations) and it should be something YOU enjoy. if you have no interest in fish for example, don't take the girl to the aquarium because a friend told you it would be romantic.

You need to take into consideration that most men ARE idiots. I mean, there are so few decent ones to choose from that it would be mathematically probable we would be attracted to at least one idiot.

Wow, this thread moves quickly when I forget to check the internet for a day.
1. I'm pretty much the opposite of you all in that I would love a private movie screening and hate a zoo trip. Seeing captive animals is just depressing and DOES NOT put me in a romantic mood. But a private movie screening? Hells yeah.
2. I am beginning to think you all suffer from low self esteem issues. Dale Gribble clearly does not think he is awesome enough to be the one-in-a-million guy who makes some girl want to sleep with him on the first date, despite that she normally waits. Likewise, Brandon's private movie idea is too special for a first date? Way to reach for mediocrity, folks.
3. Asking people out at their place of employment sucks. Much better to flirt, slip them your phone number covertly, and then wait for them to make the first move. It puts the ball in their court so they can act if the want to, but don't feel harassed.
4. Amy, MAC's Mineralize liquid foundation and also Mineralize powder foundation are both ace. They feel clean and don't look cakey, stay on forever, and both contain SPF 15.

Courtney, I love you. Way to summarize effectively.
Generally, any kind of nice outdoor thing. Like, I would love a date that only consisted of wandering around neighborhoods and scoping out yard sales and maybe grabbing a sandwich somewhere. Low-key things.
Wait, this is a date? I do this every weekend with Chris. I call it "hanging out and doing shit."
Well, now I feel better.

I meant as a first date that would be awesome and would tell me a lot of things about the person who asked me out. Namely, that we should be pretty dang compatible. I would enjoy doing this at any point in a relationship, though.

locachica73

I had a friend get the clip in extensions and then had them dyed with her hair so it was the same color and they didn't look cheap. I think the problem is people buy them off the rack and then the color isn't really a match.
miscorrections
06-24-2010, 08:11 AM
And Jen do you really need extensions? Your hair seems long enough to do pretty much anything with. It's actually much harder to style longer, thicker hair than it is to style shorter, normal thickness hair.
amyzzz
06-24-2010, 08:23 AM
Dumb aside, but when I was getting my hair done on the fly for my wedding, the stylist told me my hair was too long to do an updo. I think he was an asshole though. My hair was as long as it was at the last Coachella (whoever saw me there).
captncrzy

I dunno. I'm going to get my hair cut this weekend. I'll talk to the stylist about it. The hair extensions are real hair and you can dye them to match your regular hair and stuff. I'm more worried about a track falling out or something during dinner.

I'm not a girl, but I would think that looking at your own wedding photos with fake hair down the line would be strange. The day and the memory is all about you guys, and having that artificiality thrown in there kind of devalues it.

My sister used those "real hair" extensions for prom. I couldn't tell the difference between her hair and the extensions. Just a thought.
Courtney
06-24-2010, 11:55 AM
I agree with Drinkey here, but I also think someone could play devil's advocate and ask exactly where to draw the "artificiality" line -- are highlights or hair coloring ok? What about a push-up bra? Makeup and high heels? Women do lots of things to alter their appearance, and it seems sort of arbitrary to draw the line at hair extensions.

Hey, have any of you ever used those clip in hair extensions?
Are you talking about the professionally installed ones, or those you can clip in yourself? I picked some up at the beauty supply last year, but they were for fun. Fun, meaning Hot Pink and synthetic, and very very straight. I have wave to my hair and thought touching them with a curling iron would help. HELLO, STUPID... What part of synthetic do you not understand? Those that I didn't manage to melt onto the iron, I clipped in underneath my own hair, and off I went, thinking I was like Lady Gaga or some shit. Now, I have thick hair already and it's coarse, so they held pretty good. Unfortunately, I started thinking I was Cher as the night wore on, flipping my hair and doublechecking the little clippies, that by the time I got home, my own hair was fine, but I now had these mangy looking pink things hanging 2" past my own length. (Plus a curling iron that was now plastically sealed shut and unable to use.)
The next trip to get hair supplies, I thought I'd try the ones the pros use in the natural colors, that are made from real hair. Granted, I've been a pro, but extensions hadn't been thought of at that time. And these you had to actually sew the clips onto the hair yourself before clipping on, or in. Or, clipping to your earlobe, whatever. I think you'll get the idea here. And being the hoarder type that I am, I am now the proud owner of what could be constructively called a pet in a box, that's been taking up space in the bathroom cabinet. I used the when we went to the Prodigy show, and while they made my hair look thick, they felt like tumors here and there on my head, and I probably yanked 1/2 of them out before we even got to L.A.
On a funny note, I remember going to get something out of that cabinet once, and without really looking, reached up and grabbed "the pet," and about shit myself thinking it was a rat or something!
I'll assume that for $90, someone who knows what they're doing will be installing them, right? Just keep in mind that there may be a lot of ill-na-na on your wedding night, and you might want to let Rick know just in case he goes to run his hands through your hair.

So, nobody with the hair extensions? I don't want to drop $90 on them for the wedding if they're crap.
I had woven extensions for almost a year (this was over 10 years ago). I had real hair, and they were curly like my hair. They looked good, but the upkeep got a bit overwhelming.
But it sounds to me that you want to use clip ons. I have some that are human hair. When I bought them two summers ago, they were the same length as my hair. I was able to curl them and it did create a fuller look. Nobody could tell. I even told some people and they thought I was just having a good hair day.
They did feel a bit loose at the end of the day, but never came out. I hope this helps.

So back in January I met a guy at a bar and we bonded over Gorillaz. I made an effort to hang out with him after (in a friends capacity, he had a girlfriend) but he was always busy with her or work or whatever so I figured he just didn't want to. Anyway, he texted me a few minutes ago to see if I still live in the neighborhood and if I wanted to do something. I said yes but that I was going to bed early so I can get my ass out to a cafe early tomorrow for the Argentina/Germany game. He said, "We might be there, maybe we'll see you" and then asked me out for drinks (at some undetermined point in the future, "soon").
Question 1: why is he texting me out of the blue months later? That's generally something you do when you break up and want to bone acquaintances. Question 2: who is "we"?
I am perplexed.

i totally put my foot in my mouth this weekend. a bunch of girls & i were at a decent restaraunt for one of my best-friends 30th birthday. most of the hostesses were dressed well, but there was this one hostess whose dress was red and WAY too tight. the fabric was stretchy also looked really cheap, like something from charlotte russe. we all commented on the tightness. i then said something about how bebe's clothes are too tight and how i am an extra-large there. we talked about bebe's for a second, and then i said something my mother once told me, which is that their #1 clientele are call girls.
two of the girls at the table got quiet. then they blurted out "ok, you have to open your present now, because it's a dress from bebe's". i felt MORTIFIED. i mean, i have no way of knowing, and it's fucking true, their shit is skanky, but some of it is cute and better made than charlotte russe. for example the dress they got here was really cute & fun for going to the clubs. i think bebe's is fine for club wear, i just mean that their suits and shit are not something you could ever actually wear to work. i'm also probably just bitter that i'm not tiny & able to fit into their clothes like some of the other girls can.
that's not very entertaining, i know, but man, i have felt fucking awful about it ever since.

their suits are what are skanky to me. plus, anytime i've gone there, i've seen 40+ year old woman with fried hair in the dressing rooms and the clothes seem to show off every ripple of fat in their body, even if they are not fat. that is skanky looking to me.
i see that one of those awful kardashian people has a clothing line there, so that says everything lol. eww, who the fuck could wear this without showing some ripples/bumps?!?

Hm good to know, should I ever have an extra few hundred dollars laying around that I can justifiably spend on shoes. ;)
Though, that surprises me - based on the comment section on those shoes in particular, it sounded like Fluevogs are more calf friendly. It would be nice to be able to try some on. I definitely prefer higher boots aesthetically.

Becky has these in Black. She found them at a thrift store in exactly her size for like 20 bucks. She almost died when saw them. She probably spent 10 minutes just looking at them making sure they were actual Fluevogs and not knock offs.

I think this is why I have never gotten the shoe bug. I wear a size 10, at one point I was even venturing into 11s when I was heavier. So any cute shoes that I see usually look like canoes by the time they get to be my size. Plus I have a high arch and planter faschiatis (sp?) so the only semi cute shoes I can wear with enough support are clarks and they just aren't that cute.

i tend to like traditional, with some flare. like i love my DC sneakers that look like a plain old sneaker in the way they are cut, but have fabulous prints. i really don't have a reason to wear dress shoes outside of work though, so that may also be why i stick to the classic, preppy look. any sort of heel that looks like a penny loafer makes me drool.

Right now I own a pair of sketcher brown tennis that I pretty much wear all the time. They are about 4 years old and I had only worn them a handful of times till I broke my leg. They are the only thing I can wear that doesn't make my ankle swell to the size of my knee. I also have a pair of reef black flip flops that I wish I could wear more often but there isn't enough support for my ankle. :(

I trim my own bangs all the time. I twist little bits & then snip the ends.
My stylist also recommended using thinning shears. You can't do much damage with those.

i've been cutting my hair for almost 2 years now. i don't have to be very precise though because my hair is curly and i usually wear it sort of messy. bangs are always tough though. i keep growing them out and then thinking i want them back and when i cut them i just end up pinning them over anyway.

I'd also like to rant for a second about how horrible it is to try and find decent tank tops to use for layering/under cardigans etc. I hate anything ribbed, and I hate really skinny strapped tanks because I'm not 14 anymore. For the last few years, I've also noticed this trend of tank tops being excessively long and stretchy. This looks awful on anyone with the slightest bit of meat on them because it bunches up around the waist/hips area. Also, you look idiotic if you're wearing an excessively long tank top underneath a normal sized sweater or cardigan. ALSO, stop making tank tops so sheer, I don't want to have to wear 2, it's not fashionable, it's just a way for designers to make an extra few bucks. The only tank top I have right now that I actually like is from a record label.
rskapcat
07-23-2010, 05:53 PM
See, I love the super-long stretchy tanks & Ts. I'm probably one of few women who wants to emphasize the size of her hips, but it makes my waist looks slimmer & lengthens my torso.
For me, a longer & leaner torso is more important than the illusion of longer legs. I have short legs. Not really a secret, considering I'm quite short.

07-23-2010, 06:05 PM

I also like the longer ones because they cover up my stomach. And boobs make all shirts much shorter.
You may not like them because of straps are skinny, but the Sparkle brand plain tank tops at Urban Outfitter are amazing. I can't find them on their website, but they always have them, usually on the weird mezzanine level, and they're like $10/each. Lots of colors. They hold up really well. One of the things I like is that they are relatively high armhole wise, one of my pet peeves are tank tops that are cut really low and show bra. And they are much shorter, on me they are just past waist length.
