Good ol' Slipper is 18 now and doesn't get around much anymore. But he purrs and insists on always having a paw up on you. I know that his days are numbered so its all about making him comfortable and giving him lots of love.

Here is Marla. She is named after the crazy chick from Fight Club. She really is actually a sweetheart. But she loves to get in the way when I do homework.

Love the box photo.

Has anybody heard of the relatively new breed, Goberian? They're a mix between Siberian Huskies and Golden Retrievers:

http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ljptbbkdK01qefrw4o1_500.jpg

I still prefer a Huskies, even though they are prone to wandering off.

My wife wants to get Maddie a brother. I almost typed - she keeps hounding me about it - inadvertently. She's got a cousin that comes over sometimes, but they never really play. And when they do, Maddie wants to be the dominant dog. She doesn't really chase the ball, she chases Bailey. Might this be because they're both females?

My (white) dog, Keeto's back legs gave out. He is 3.5 years old. My black dog charges into him once in a while when he runs around in circles and this happened the other day. He crawls around like Herbert's dog from Family Guy. I took him to the vet to get x-rays and things didn't look out of the ordinary so I am hoping for a good recovery. I'm pretty scared for him though. He is currently on steroids and another med right now.

Do you care what size? I would say a Golden Retriever. They love fetch, water, and are amazing with kids.

Golden Retrievers are the best. They're just incredibly well behaved and friendly. Plus they rock at fetch. My golden also loved playing in the lake.

It is definitely rewarding adopting an older dog but on the negative side they come with their own problems. Many of them have been abused and unless you have lots of time to deal with those issues I wouldn't recommend it. Puppies on the other hand, are still a lot of work. The difference in the work is that with puppies they generally have all the same "problems" and are complete sponges. With that in mind you can really train your pup to be however you want it to. Plus who doesn't love a puppy?

Yes, but it's a very slow process. He had his surgery 4 weeks ago. His tail is finally starting to move but not a full wag yet. He's not in any more pain and he is crawling faster. He can stand up if we have hands on him holding him there. We're hoping he will be walking by memorial weekend

Does Pumba follow you when you turn around and then turn his back to you when you face him?

What happened? He looks happy, so that's good.

Ruptured disc in his back. Got him surgery 2 months ago, still not walking but this kinda makes up for it when we go to the beach or on walks. He's such a handful now with everything else

What do you mean by fostering? Are you going to give her up?

Yes, that is what it means. Flosshilde was found filthy and shivering with no mother in sight. We took her in through a rescue agency and have cared for her, helping her learn to eat, poop, play, everything. In a week or so she will be old enough, strong enough to get her shots and get spayed. Then we and the rescue agency will offer her up for adoption.

Hey did your/does your dog have a herniated disc in his back?
Two ruptured discs. It happened in Feb, he was in a lot of pain, he ended up having surgery to fix it with a 50/50 that he walk again. He's had everything from water therapy to acupuncture. Nothing really got his legs moving until he started doing laser therapy 3 months ago. The docs said if there was no improvement 6 months after that that's all we will get out of him but with the laser therapy his major improvements started at 8 months after the injury.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Our Pug had the same surgery almost 3 years ago. He was basically paralyzed and moved around like your pup in the video. We took him to physical therapy including water treadmill/swim therapy/and we continue to take him to acupuncture twice a month. We took him to physical therapy for almost two years. He gets around ok these days and no longer drags his back legs when he walks but we only allow him to walk on carpet or grass. In our experience the physical therapy and water treadmill worked the best for him, it seemed like with the water treadmill he was able to gain the ability to pick his back legs up off the ground again. I have never heard heard of laser therapy but I'm going to look into it. I hope your pup continues to improve, I know how hard and heartbreaking it is to have a dog suffering from this disability. You seem like a great owner and I'm sure your bond with him will grow even stronger as you continue to care for your special needs boy :)

Neighborhood Creep
12-31-2012, 01:12 PM
Thanks man. You should really check it out. Acupuncture was 80 a pop and didn't do anything for us. Water therapy was 30 for 30 minutes and it was okay, it got his legs and tail moving but no advancement on walking. Laser therapy gives me 6 sessions for 75 bucks so it's much cheaper and faster.
Best of luck.

citizenerased
12-31-2012, 01:21 PM
that reminds me of the golden retriever I had 10 years ago. We bought him as a pup then all of a sudden a week or two later he couldn't walk, vets said he had some rare bone disorder and he was growing too fast. One day about 8 months later we saw him in the backyard jumping to get apples from the tree, it was the damnedest thing. Don't give up hope!

chbludevil
12-31-2012, 01:25 PM
Actually, he did have laser therapy, I just remembered. The physical therapist would use a laser on his legs before going in the water treadmill. I'm sure that helped him too. It does get really expensive, over the years we have spent an insane amount of money on our pug. It's ok though because he is priceless to us and as long as he's comfortable and happy we will do whatever we can for him.

BROKENDOLL
03-02-2013, 09:58 PM
It's been about 3 months since we unknowingly got adopted by a stray kitten we discovered under our bed one evening. By the sound of the cat fight that broke out when our cat KiKi discovered the kitten, I just assumed it's spitting and clawing was out of fear and never considered it might be a feral kitten. Five days later, I was finally able to coax it out from under the bed, only to have her hangout in my closet for another 4 or 5 days, staking her claim. With a make shift litter box, and a bowl of food and water, I kept trying to convince this kitten that we only wanted to help her, regardless of how the other cat appeared to feel about the whole situation. There was bloodshed and spitting, but eventually, I had made a friend. Can't quite say the same for KiKi, but we're working on it...

Meet our newest family addition, the stealth Miss Jezebel P. Tabby Cat...

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/BROKENDOLL/Pictures/P1060734.jpg

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/BROKENDOLL/Pictures/P1070067.jpg

And while Jezebel lives each day exploring and learning what is what, and where else can she hide, we have the alpha female cat of the house who knows what's up and has no problem expressing her feelings about it... KiKi was not pleased about our going to Hawaii without her...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/BROKENDOLL/Pictures/P1060788.jpg

By the time we had returned home, she had staked claim of the bed... (And no, this was not staged...the damn cat thinks she's human, afterall...)
