Humm thought I posted this, anyway, I didn't want to start a "raining" thread for this but I thought it might be the place to post this. cr****

The four-year-old cub reportedly collapsed and died Saturday at the Berlin Zoo.

The world embraced Knut as our own after his mother rejected him shortly after birth. He beat the odds as the only polar bear ever raised by humans, showing an adorable affection toward his Berlin Zoo trainer – and adoptive father – Thomas Dörflein. But Saturday, Knut passed away of unknown causes while alone in the zoo's polar bear enclosure.

Knut's mother must have known that he was a weak cub from birth which is why he was rejected. The fact that he died at four years old shows that he was likely doomed from the start and the people that saved him should be punished for making him live a life he did not want nor deserve. It seems Knut did not like his life, so he comitted suicide.

On 19 March 2011, Knut collapsed in his enclosure at the Berlin Zoo and died. He was found floating in the water.

Giovanna, a female polar bear roughly the same age as Knut, was relocated to Berlin from Munich's Hellabrunn Animal Garden in September 2009. She was presented to the public on 23 September, and was due to briefly share Knut's enclosure while her regular home in Munich undergoes repairs. Her arrival sparked international interest, as many sources mused that the two bears (although sexually immature) would soon be "dating". However, in March 2010, the German chapter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called for Knut to be castrated in order to avoid inbreeding; he and Giovanna share a grandfather

his life was heading in the wrong direction

Only the size of a guinea pig, Knut spent the first 44 days of his life in an incubator before zoo keeper Thomas Dörflein began raising the cub.

Knut's need for round-the-clock care required that Dörflein not only sleep on a mattress next to Knut's sleeping crate at night, but also play with, bathe, and feed the cub daily. Knut's diet began with a bottle of baby formula mixed with cod liver oil every two hours, before graduating at the age of four months to a milk porridge mixed with cat food and vitamins.

Dörflein died of a heart attack on 22 September 2008. He was 44 years old.

After living in the same enclosure as Ernst, a Malaysian black bear cub who was born a month before Knut, and its mother, Knut was then moved to his own private living space.

His daily meals were reduced in number from four to three, and treats, such as croissants, which are favored by the young polar bear, were restricted. After hurting his foot while slipping on a wet rock in his enclosure a month later in September, there was an outpouring of concern and support from fans worldwide.

A plate of six-inch glass, strong enough to resist a mortar blast, was erected between him and zoo visitors. At the end of March 2008, Markus Röbke, one of the keepers who helped rear Knut, reported that the bear should leave the zoo as soon as possible in order to help him acclimate to a life alone. Röbke also said that Knut plainly misses his past father-figure, Thomas Dörflein, and has become so used to attention that he cries when no one is near his enclosure. "Knut needs an audience," Röbke stated. "That has to change".

On 19 March 2011, Knut collapsed in his enclosure at the Berlin Zoo and died. Witnesses reported that after the bear's left leg began shaking, he walked around in circles before falling into the water. Approximately 600 to 700 zoo visitors witnessed Knut's death.

Knut was born at the Berlin Zoo to 20-year-old Tosca, a former circus performer from East Germany who was born in Canada, and her 13-year-old mate Lars, who was originally from the Tierpark Hellabrunn in Munich. After an uncomplicated gestation, Knut and his unnamed brother were born on 5 December 2006. Tosca rejected her cubs for unknown reasons, abandoning them on a rock in the polar bear enclosure. Knut's brother died of an infection four days later

Something bit Sascha and her poor face swelled up and I had to take her to the vet to get fixed. They gave her an antibiotic, therefore she couldn't nurse anymore :( But the puppies were 5 weeks old and were being weaned somewhat already, so it wasn't so bad. I put a Tori Amos shirt on her so they could all still hang out.

They have, and I'm in VA right now. Thanks for asking, though. I feel very blessed that we found great homes for them. The little boy and girl are going to the same couple, who are very loving. Those 2 pups are kind of needy, so it's great that they'll have each other. And the big boy is going to a nice family on a big farm, which is cool b/c he's really laid back and independent.

I would suggest not getting a female. Maybe it's just a myth that females are more high maintenance, but I've experienced it. I mean, if you consider it the prospect of puppies, they are certainly more of a pain. If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a full bred lab, get one that can't be registered, or can only get a limited registration. Could mean a difference of $1,000.

Guy a work with told me about his dog's facebook page (go to Bear Luv to follow or see more pics). He and his partner rescued a tortured boxer puppy from an asshole dog fighting ring. Dog was meant to be a bait dog, so the motherfuckers poked the puppy's eyes out; fortunately, he was rescued before the other dogs got to him. The family has adopted Bear; while his other two boxers have adopted the puppy as their baby. They take him around the yard and guide him by touch (he's both blind and deaf).

I hope whoever did this gets ass raped by a butcher knife for all eternity.

Yeah, it's truly nauseating. Apparently these guys have other Boxers that are rescue dogs too; I guess fighting rings use Boxers a lot?

Anyway, that website at the bottom of the page is the rescue organization they work with. Good news is that Bear is happy and doing well; loves his squeaky toy and his new family. I think they're fostering him for now and are screening homes for him to be adopted. So if you know anyone, you can contact them through the Bear Luv facebook page.

I forgot how good this thread always makes me feel. You guys have some great "best friends!" Tortoise= Super cool :thu

This past month or so has been filled with changes and additions at our place. First, there was the new family addition of "Slipper," or, "Puddlenuts," as we affectionately call him. He belonged to Pete's ex-wife, and since she passed away almost a year ago, the poor thing was only being fed when someone would stop by to check the house every few days. He's managed to make it to 14-15 years, and I couldn't bare to leave him there any longer and took a chance at introducing him to "the lady of our house, KiKi..." (KiKi's our dumpster kitten turned diva cat.)
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/001a79d5.jpg

KiKi obviously wasn't the most cordial hostess to poor Puddlenuts, who happens to be about the most affectionate animal/pet I've ever met...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/1323f809.jpg

Then she began her "hard to get" crap...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/25ff335b.jpg

He obviously wasn't into her childish game...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/54c1d0fc.jpg

Which in turn, sent her into a frump...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/302bf2a3.jpg

And that's when Puddlenuts made his smooth move into our hearts...and the head of our bed.

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/bd6ee9be.jpg

Obviously, this didn't fair well with our little diva...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/699f7f07.jpg

And while he remained the perfect guest and gentleman, she had to go into her gangsta mode...There was a brief physical altercation, followed by a discussion regarding my space, your space...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/8977589e.jpg

And then another addition came into play... Pete's granddaughter...
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w18/1BROKENDOLL/HOME%20SWEET%20HOME/FAMILY%20and%20FRIENDS/PARENTAL%20GUIDANCE%20OFFERED/72fb41cd.jpg

Problem solved! Amazing how fast KiKi and Puddlenuts became allies then! LOL

I had to drug my cat and stuff her in a pet carrier and then stuff that into a re-usabe Whole Foods back and smuggle it onto the Megabus as a carry-on when I moved back to Ohio the other day. I was tense the entire way home, and she meowed a few times but no one heard (or if they did, they didn't care). This is not the first time I've smuggled a cat on public transportation. I think I posted a pic of my pet last summer on here, Pantera, an American Shorthair, black cat.

However, even though this kitty was not technically mine, he was my cat's bff. They ruled our neighborhood. They could intimidate dogs.

Recently coyotes have been stalking our little animal friendly 'hood. I live off a busy street near the beach. This means the hills of Los Angeles have burnt so much, that it has ruined the natural food chain of wild animals, hence they are now coming way south of their original homes and stalking domestic prey.

They got our Louie. I was woken up to the sound of something that didn't quite sound like a dog. It was 5:20 in the morning last Monday. My cat who usually wants to go outside just stood by the window, not moving. I was half asleep, so back to bed I went. Later on that day, Louie's cat mom told me that a coyote had demolished him...right in front of our apartment building! She had a friend come over to help her move Louie. When they went out, he was gone. They found, what was left of him, another 1/2 block away. This cat was 18 lbs. and not fat!

I know bring my indoor/outdoor cat in early. He doesn't fight me anymore on this issue. Somehow, i think he knows what's up.

Louie, RIP!

Cute dogs, is Gracie like a collie mix?

Gracie is a mix of some sort. Most likely collie/aussie with some other stuff thrown in there. we were given a doggie dna test as a gift last christmas, when we got the results back it said something ridiculous like she was mostly shih tzu and beagle (obvious scam is obvious).

indy on the right is purebred australian shepherd.

I know. I've got to stop reading this thread. I just moved to a pet friendly building and most of my neighbors have adorable dogs. So tempting. But I don't think I could keep a dog in a 1 bedroom apartment all day while I'm at work; seems so selfish.

If you live in a pet-friendly building with neighbors with dogs, I bet it would be easy enough to set up some sort of pet-sitting swap with a neighbor who works a different schedule than you. I have quite a few friends who do this. A neighbor who works nights has a set of keys and will come and pick up and walk and/or socialize your dog mid-day when they're already doing stuff with their own dog, and then when you come home from work and go out on your evening walk, you take their dog along as well.

Erika is allergic and we cut down on a lot of her allergic reaction by bathing our cat frequently. So long as this regimen is begun when it's a kitten, your cat won't be too adverse to getting bathed. Our cat's pretty okay with it. His original owners were bathing him daily and when we got him, we bathed him every other week. Now, Tristan's bathed monthly. He is sooo much softer and fluffy, plus he smells good and enjoys being clean too. Also, he doesn't ever cough up hairballs.

At my house, I'm the sole cleaner of the litter box, the shredded pine stuff smells good and is easy to deal with.

Algunz brought up a sad story regarding animals taking drugs, it reminded me of a cat I had named Jebus....I felt this post belonged here (http://coachella.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2335745&postcount=13430)

RE: Dog on acid jumping off a building, apparently he had the magic flying newspaper

I know he knew he had it. His owners were the ones that failed him not the newspaper. :(
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/Mugwog/Publicity/Recovered_JPEGDigitalCamera_1916.jpg

Had a cat a while ago who got into my stash and ate a tiny nibble of a cap of some extremely potent mushrooms I had. These things made me see my friends as a devil, had tapestries flowing like a river and just full on gave me one of the nuttiest trips I have ever had.

My ex and I concluded the cat (Jebus) had eaten mushrooms once I found a cap far away from the stash slightly nibbled. Our roommate was telling us that he was trying to climb the wall ala platforming on picture frames like Mario. He also tried REALLY hard to talk to us in his cat speak when we came home on that fateful night.

Strangely enough, that cat fucking grooved with the vibe when I would have mushroom parties at my future residencies. He would just plop down and sit like lazy fatty. We were all tripping balls, so fortunately I got a picture of the cat acting just as strange as we were.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c367/Mugwog/Publicity/Recovered_JPEGDigitalCamera_1357.jpg

Alas the little dumbass was eaten by something as the ex GF thought it would be ok for him to wander the "backyard" that is the Laguna Beach Canyon during the day time :nono
