ALRIGHT. So, yesterday my stupid little nephew(yead I am still mad at him) broke specks leg by hitting him with a pillow and he flew off the couch and hit the floor. So, yeah here is the x ray of the break and him in his cast. 6 - 8weeks and he shoudl be better.

Having significant others post on the board is like Christmas. Mr. Amyzzz comes on occasionally, and I have heard that maybe even Mrs. Yablonowitz did as well. Mrs. TomAz is like the holy grail of significant other postings.

Mrs. Yablonowitz had a handle on the old board and made a brief appearance at one time. This was in better times. I'm pretty sure she'd be horrified at what she'd find if she started one up here.

I mean, explaining the ways of Pot was hard enough, but I wouldn't even know where to begin with Randy.

Pot said my wife had 'girthy' arms and she has had severe body image issues since. Randy would probably make her commit suicide.

You shouldn't feed your pets out of plastic dishes. It's bad for them. It can cause "Cat Acne" (or dog, depending), because the plastic holds so much bacteria and it gets in their face when they eat and they get all these little sores, also... eventally it can cause them to no longer eat their food, also, because of the large amount of bacteria making it no longer appealing. It ALSO breaks down over time and you don't really want that stuff if your pets system.

You'r animals are cute though. I'm a veterinary assistant so I'm kind of a crazy person when I notice stuff like that. Sometimes I even stop random strangers in the grocery store buying pet food to tell them how horrible it is to buy crappy grocery store pet food. I'm pretty much a crazy person.

So then..metal dishes? Pottery? I have plastic dishes for my dogs, and I've never noticed any facial sores. Ear Infections yes, but that's more due to the long ears and water bowl.

Melanie what is wrong with buying pet food from the grocery store? This is what we do. It's more convenient than taking a separate trip to a pet supply store! Although maybe you just meant certain brands.

Melanie what is wrong with buying pet food from the grocery store? This is what we do. It's more convenient than taking a separate trip to a pet supply store! Although maybe you just meant certain brands.

I do just mean certain brands... but all of those that are in your average grocery store are usually those brands. Veterinary Quality (for lack of thinking of a better term right now) food all has to meet the animal feed standards put in place by AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Offcials). AAFCO sets the bar with their standards on pet food and all foods you find in any vet clinic will (should!) be approved by AAFCO. They are the ones who actually care about your pet and know that cats need so much Taurine and that there's no such thing as an "all life stages" diet, for example.
Brands like whiskas and alpo and all that grocery shit don't follow any kind of guideline. They just put whatever the hell they want in it. But they will put sneaky words on the package that make you think they are approved... something like "based on the AAFCO standards" instead of "Approved by AAFCO" or "In accordance with the AAFCO standards". Literally, they can put whatever the fuck they want in the food. IT's all garbage. All this sick stuff you imagine is in hot dogs, only worse, and it's all they eat. They also don't follow any kind of nutritional guide... just whatever makes it taste good, be it all protien or all grains. Whatever makes animals eat it. It's like feeding your pets McDonalds everyday.

Whiskas is especially bad (but not alone). It is especially notorious for causing FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disorder) in male cats, which can and will ulitmatly cause blockage that if untreated (were talking if you don't notice in a day or two) will lead to bladder rupture and death. These shitty pet foods have also been linked to things like stomach cancer (which was actually what my one cat died of... this was before I was informed).

Also, a lot of people don't truly understand the nutrional needs of their pets and bad food companies rely on that. Dogs are Omniviours, not carnivours. They need an equal amount of veggies with their meat. But people often assume, more meat, healthier dog. And companies play up to that with all their commericals about 'now with more beef!' and 'Don't buy it unless meat is the first ingredient' kind of thing.

If cat's don't get enough Taurine (an essential Nutrient for cats that they can't produce on their own, so must consume), it can cause ir-revesable blindness, and even kidney failure. Notice how everyones cats die of kidney failure? Chalk that up to usless food companies.

Basically, I could go on forever. (if you have questions, feel free to ask) In the end, AAFCO knows what your pets need and set the standard. anything below that, isn't worth feeding them. It's also why so many animals are so overweight. You would be too if you ate total garbage all day.

SO my recommendations, rather, the only things I would feed my pets... HILLS, Science Diet (a more avaliable branch of hills), Medi-cal or Holistic blend (an all natural, human grade, no preservative food for dogs and cats that is also approved by AAFCO). Of course there are some others, but you can't go wrong with those. And most pet stores will carry Science Diet.

Sorry that was so long! If I'm lucky, maybe just one person will switch their pets diet to something thats healthy and makes them feel BETTER!

Iams is probably the best of the worst. Iams is pulling a nasty little trick right now though. Eukanuba and Iams are the same company, but eukanuba is better and has special veterinary diets which are very good. All of a sudden they changed all the logos of the eukanuba vet diet to Iams vet diets. It's totally going to trick consumers into thinking that the Iams they see at the grocery store is veterinary quality... when really, its a whole nother thing! But Iams definitely isn't the worst.

Notice how everyones cats die of kidney failure? Chalk that up to usless food companies. My 18-yr old cat is currently dying of kidney failure. Its is one of the saddest things I've ever had to go through. I give her subcutaneous fluids 2x/day, blood pressure medication, antacids, and now am feeding her through a syringe most of the time because she doesn't feel like eating on her own. She is also very weak from anemia and only gets up to go to the bathroom on her wee pad, which I lay on the bed for her. I know she is going to go soon but she is hanging in there. She still purrs and seems to enjoy being here. But if she takes another turn for the worst, I will have her euthanized. I have had her since I was 9 years old (I'm now 27). This has to be one of the worst ways for a pet to die.

Now that I know that poor diet can lead to kidney failure, I'm going to switch my younger cat to something better. He currently eats MaxCat...is that a bad one? What about Fancy Feast? Total crap, right?

yeah, crap. Don't feed that to your young cat that anymore. It might be too late?..? for your older cat but they do have special kidney diets for cats having a hard time... like Hills feline k/d and medi-cal kidney. I know hills makes a wet food k/d as well. If you think it's too late (sorry to hear that, trust me, I know its horrible) you can always try giving hills a/d. a/d is a highly palatable (sp?) food that lots of animals go on when they wont eat anymore. It just tastes so good they can't resist. It's safe for cats and dogs, and it's not meant for long term use... but it can encourage animals to start eating again.. depending on how far gone they really are.

BTW thank you for posting that information!

There isn't any thyroid food I know of, but there is a lot of really low priced, good medications. There is a new one (I can't recall the name right now) and its like a gel in a little syringe... and you just squirt some on the inside flap of your cats ear and rub it in. It gets obsorbed through the skin. It works well and is very inexpensive, and a lot easier than getting your cat to take a pill! I think its pretty new though ( I've only seen it just recently) so you might have to look to find it. Probably not hard though.

EDIT: are you sure its hyperthyriod and not HypO? Now that I think of it, hyper is a lot harder to treat.. Hypo you just give pills or the gel... hyper you might need Sx or radiation. I think you might be able to get some meds for hyper though? I'm not really sure. sorry

Ok... I"m just going to put my 2 cents in :)
Typically cats are hyPER and dogs are hyPO... typically.
Methimazole Gel is the gel that you are refering to and Wedgewood pharmacy makes a good product just one full click and you rub in in the inside of the ear. This product is for hyPER thyroid and I almost guarantee that your cat is hyper thyroid. I have never met a cat that was hyPO without previously having his thyroid gland removed causing the level of thyroid hormone to decrease to nothing. If you have a dog it is more typical that he be hyPO, but can rarely be hyper for differant reasons.
There is no food that can be used for treatment of either of these diseases, although a hyPO thyroid dog will typically be placed on a low cal / low protein diet until the meds are regulated to the point that he is at or near a normal weight.
Anyways, I hope your cat is doing well. And I do recommend that you speak to your vet and before going to your appointment write down any and all questions that you have and bring them with you. No question is unimportant if you have thought of it, it is a concern of yours and it should be addressed.
Have a wonderful day :)

Very cute.

Why is Stella wearing a handbag? Also I like Stella.

Avery wins.

I have various questions (I can't tell what play you saw and I am bothered by this and etc) but I will resist.
I used to work for Coach and i had the dogcoat from my previous pup Sandy, so i tried it on her

The playbill is a tease, it was actually a catalogue of what was out at the time, but the last play i saw was Passing Strange and it was excellent

i love mastifs. hows his personality?

She is a little timid but very excitable. She's very sweet.

She's also rather orderly, she gets upset if things aren't done correctly. If food is left out on the counter after dinner, if my father doesn't go to bed at 8:15, that sort of thing.

She's very friendly and very protective, especially when my young niece is around.

She is awesome.
